    The 2015 version still does what it needs to do without a bunch of bullshit that entitles Apple to raise the Price to the crazy level.

    I'm getting the 2015 MacBook Pro 15" with upgrade processor (2.8GHz (turbo boost to 4.0 GHz) for a number of reasons
    1) ports inc. SD , USB , HDMI
    2) MagSafe
    3) higher processor rates
    And ultimately the cost
    Why buy a worse MacBook for more money , be smart people

    • @jamesrogers9887
      @jamesrogers9887 8 років тому +24

      Jamie Pirie 1. Ports can be used through dongles
      2. MagSafe is a a loss but you can replace it
      3. It's an older generation processor. It won't be much faster and it will be MUCH less efficient
      4. The screen isn't as good
      5.the speakers aren't as good
      6. The trackpad isn't as good
      7. It's not future proofed
      8. It won't have the touch bar
      9. Can't power 2 x 5k displays / 4 x 4K displays
      10. Is heavier and uglier than the 2016 model (granted neither is ugly!)
      But that's just my opinion...

    • @jamiepirie9758
      @jamiepirie9758 8 років тому +7

      James Rogers good points but extra cost for 2016 😒

    • @titoli1
      @titoli1 8 років тому +8

      Jamie Pirie It's not a bad idea. But benefits from the new MacBook is.
      1. Faster SSD
      2. Faster graphics (15 inch)
      3. Slimmer design
      4. Display, speakers.
      In the end I think you will gain more speed from the SSD and the graphics card then from the small CPU difference. Either way both a great machines.

    • @jamesrogers9887
      @jamesrogers9887 8 років тому +2

      Jamie Pirie Ultimately if money is the deciding factor then there's not much you can do. You'll still be getting a great computer

      You don't know much about processors if you think that the new one is actually slower. Go watch TLD's review, its significantly faster in real use pro applications. The other reasons are fair game, thought I dont see how theyre deal-breakers.

  • @vnitto
    @vnitto 8 років тому +328

    Why did they get rid of the Magsafe power connector? That thing saved my Macbook Pro from being knocked off the table at least 30-40 times. This new 2016 one is more like a toy, the old one was a tool.

    • @FrenchSaladMac
      @FrenchSaladMac 8 років тому +18

      vnitto Apple knows that, but they took the feature out so u have a higher chance of breaking the '16 version, therefore your forced to pay for it to be either fixed, replaced, or opt to buy a completely brand new one, making Apple more $$$$

    • @JoshuaKissoon
      @JoshuaKissoon 8 років тому +4

      Have you seen the price for the 2016 models? falling off a table can't break it.

    • @Skarth77
      @Skarth77 8 років тому +3

      Because it was big and bulky. Sure it was a really nice feature, but they needed to remove it to make the laptop smaller.I also heard that the laptop was light enough that the Magsafe power connector was actually too strong and wouldn't reliably break away everytime. Don't know if that's been confirmed anywhere, but it seems to make some sense. I've read that the convenience of charging from any of the four ports is great. So there's pro's and con's to its removal, but it's a step they had to take at some point. Hopefully at somepoint we'll see something akin to the MagSafe power connector in future iterations.

    • @kapilbusawah7169
      @kapilbusawah7169 8 років тому +7

      +Skarth Nope. The Pro series was never designed to be light or loose functionality. The '16 MBP looses the ports so Apple doesn't loose money paying for proprietary ports, which Apple solves by making dongles at ridiculous prices to generate more income.
      Pro series is meant to cater to professionals in their field, which often, weight, doesn't much matter in.
      Besides it's only 0.19kgs lighter. MagSafe 2 would've still been better than USB-C regardless of the effectiveness of its' weight.

    • @Skarth77
      @Skarth77 8 років тому +9

      That's a questionable statement. The macbook pro "lost functionality" in exchange for size when it lost things such as an optical drive, Ethernet ports, firewire, etc. I don't think that many people would be pleased with having massive laptops in exchange for small amounts of function. I mean magsafe is helpful, but it's not particularly high on my list of what I want in my laptop.
      I by no means am a complete fan of the 2016 macbook pros. I was planning on investing in the 2015 macbook pro before the 2016 on was announced, and now I've been on the fence since it's announcements. The lack of magsafe isn't a huge factor here, it's the lack of ports, mainly USB 3, that is. The industry is definitely moving towards USB C, but it's not there yet. That's why my struggle is deal with dongles or hubs now, or be stuck with USB 3 while everyone's using C down the road.
      For me personally that size difference does matter. As a student who is always on the go, yet still needs the power of a pro model. The difference in size may seem small on paper, but is definitely noticeable in person, and I can only imagine is quite significant when carrying it around for upwards of 12 hours a day.

    I own a 2017 macbook pro and let me break up some things for you.
    Touchpad: unecessarly big, less palm resting space
    Keyboard: horrible, youir fingers hurt after writing longer documents and you do not get used to it easily (1 key break, you have to change whole top case, 500$-700$)
    Touchbar: you only use it for brightness and volume, comes in handy in final cut pro actually, but other than that only drains your battery, so pointless (repare costs???)
    Ports: Too early for going over to usb-c ports, too little usb-c products in the market (dongle life, $$$)
    Replacments: 2016 and newer models, replacments and repairs are nearly impossible, 2015 and older, you can replace battery, storage, ram and it won't cost you hundreds of dollars.
    Other problems: dust under keyboard makes it break, thermal issues, screen glitch, case popping (have them all)
    Price: 1400$ for 2017 base model vs used 2015 for 700$

    • @johnnypan5104
      @johnnypan5104 8 років тому +1

      2.4Ghz i7. The speed generally doesn't really mean anything. The most important part is the architecture of the CPU and the features that come with it. Generally, an i7 has better multithreading performance (Good for video editing) in comparison to an i5. An i5 is usually good enough depends on your workflow. If you are those types of person that likes to open 20 chrome tabs while doing programming, go for the i7.

    Im currently in school for photography, so for me Photoshop, InDesign, Lightroom, Bridge and the whole deal are frequently used. I also watch movies/series a lot and browse. Which macbook might be good for me?? Im not sure about the 2015 or 2016 model. Definitely getting 16gb and i was thinking about a 256SSD since im going to use my 2012 mbp 512GB as back up storage, meaning i wouldnt keep a lot on the new laptop. SD card slot is important for me but since the use of CF cards seems to be going up Im thinking I'll need an adapter for a card reader either way.. So performance and screen are both important, adapters wouldnt be the end of the world but.. Is the new mbp worth it? My 2012 with 4GB memory is pretty sad in performance so i really need to upgrade..

    Freaking 4800$ for the top model? That's definitely not worth it, Apple. You can build a high end Desktop PC and buy a great dell 2 in 1 laptop (with same stats as this Macbook) with half of that price.
    Apple is pretty much going for Luxury Products only.

    • @sanketkasar8675
      @sanketkasar8675 8 років тому +4

      I would recommend you to buy the 2016 13". Your only loss is the screen size. The newer MacBooks have everything better. Faster storage, RAM, CPU, and also few other not so noticed things like wifi, bluetooth, charging.
      It also has better display and better speakers along with touch id and touchbar, which will surely get great application support in a few months.
      You also get future proof super fast ports even though they might cause some trouble with dongles currently, but if you are gonna use your laptop for 3-4 years atleast, better carry a few dongles now rather than regretting it later.
      The main reason why I suggest you to go for newer 13" MBP is due to the fact that it has TB3 ports which can be used to add external GPUs and you can easily use Nvidia graphics instead of the built-in AMD Radeon. Your 1080p youtube requirement is easily satisfied by the Intel HD but if you need the extra graphics power, you can use external GPUs. This way, you save money, get a portable laptop and also can make it powerful enough using eGPU when required.

  • @Awayze
    @Awayze 7 років тому +2

    Hard decision tbh, new one is sleek and has touch bar but old one has light up logo and magsafe. However im leaning towards getting the older one as no doubt Apple will be working on bringing magsafe 3 and light up logo back in future models.

    • @keller109
      @keller109 7 років тому

      Why is the light up logo even relevant? You can't even see it while using the damn thing. Only an Apple fanboy who cares more about the brand name and what other people think than the technology would give a shit, so strangers on the other side of a dimly lit room would be able to see that you're using an Apple product. Who cares? And magsafe is nice, but again... still at the bottom when comparing these laptops. The focus should be the hardware. The 2016 has large touchpad that hinders typing, countless people have had glitches with the touchbar, and it requires dongles. Apple has not added anything really new with this laptop, but the price is sky high. And even for the 8gb! You could buy a much better laptop at a LESSER price with better technology.

    • @Awayze
      @Awayze 7 років тому

      No Windows laptop is better at lower price, a lower priced MBP wont have the touchpad or large touchpad, unless you've used the new MBP you cant really say it has faults.

    • @keller109
      @keller109 7 років тому

      There are plenty of laptops that are NOT Windows that are technically better. For Apple, you're paying for the name. Granted Apple offers a great experience and the shit consistently works the way it's supposed to. That is where your money going. If you want a powerful machine that is truly versatile you should look elsewhere. I have a 2015 Macbook Pro and I have a 2014 HP. My HP has a 15 inch touchscreen, an excellent graphics card, 16gb, 2.9 ghz and 1 TB of space. I paid $1000 for it, and that was 2 years ago! If I wanted the exact same thing for my Macbook Pro I'd be spending over $2500!

    • @Awayze
      @Awayze 7 років тому

      Would never buy a HP, Dell, Acer etc laptops, I have a custom built PC with a i7 4820k, GTX 680 SLI and 16gb of ram but I want a laptop, my MBP 2009 was fast and smooth until it got water damaged and its screen res and contrast ratio was still superior to high end laptops in 2014 when I got a Vaio to get me by but like all non custom built Windows PC, its started to slow down. Speaker quality, webcam quality, backlit keyboard, battery life, macOS, Apple Store support kinda makes it worth it to go with a MBP plus they don't slow down, even after so much dodgy downloaded shit and being dropped everywhere, my MBP was still fast. I have 20% work discount but the specs I want for the new MBP, its still pricey compared to last years model. HP Spectre, Dell XPS or w/e their high end models are called, they're all pretty much close to MBP prices but lack the refinement and support.

      In my opinion, keep it. Just try to figure what you will loose and gain with that change.
      I bought a 2015 MBP because it´s cheaper, it has more usable ports with my actual hardware, it has magsafe and the SD card reader.
      If those things are not that important to you and you prefer to get a bigger trackpad, a better screen, the touchbar, etc... then go for the 2016.

    Significantly less expensive, can be upgraded to 32gb of ram, has a better gpu, has much better IO including standard USB type A connectors, USB type-C, a card reader and display port mini connection for an external monitor, and has a 1tb HDD. The IO options and price alone make it better for the pro users the Macbook Pros are supposed to be aimed at.

      For the first one better processor, better dedicated gpu, bigger screen 1 tb hdd much better IO options and for a better prices. A similar spec 13 inch macbook pro, or as close as you can get since you cant get one with a I7 6700HQ or dedicated gpu or any quad core processor or any size HDD, would cost $2599.99 or $2000 if you only go with the 256gb SSD and lose a bunch of storage. That's $2000 for no HDD, no dedicated gpu, much worse IO a smaller, screen and a dual core processor.
      IN the case of the second one one the $1299 13 inch Macbook pro has a dual core I5, again no dedicated gpu, 8gb of ram and no 1tb HDD and again the poor IO config all the Macbook pros have. Remember as well all the laptops I linked to are 15.6 inches not 13 inches.
      OR you can spend less than any 2016 Macbook pro and get this
      www.amazon.com/MSI-GE62-Apache-Pro-004-i7-6700HQ/dp/B012AQH9AU/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1480001083&sr=1-3&keywords=msi%2Blaptop&th=1
      and still have a dedicated gpu, and a better processor and more ram than the cheapest Macbook pro.

    In the comparison snapshot with the 13" Macbooks he used the $1,800 '16 version with touchbar compared to the cheapest 2015. Seems like the non-touchbar version would have been a better comparison? The cost difference is staggering.

    why does everyone keep forgetting the boot time? i know it's not a big deal but it's interesting to see so we can compare with our machines.

    i really dont like those synthetic benchmarks. better stick with some video encoding tests (handbrake for instance), at least for 10 minutes.

    How about 2015 vs 2017 version? Is it worth to get 2017 with Kabylake?

    I have read that if you turn off File Vault on the 2015 the SSD speed goes up to over 1 GB

    You know, for me the only problem has been the hinge, it really breaks my neck when I'm typing on my laps. I expect this expensive machine to provide at least well-engineered hinge, but unfortunately they've gone really lazy with this area of design 💩.
    The keyboard is awesome, no comment on that, I honestly don't understand why people are going crazy about it. For me it's really comfortable although I type for long hours.

    I won a bid on a 2016 MacBook Pro 13in non touchbar 256 gb for $414, should I buy it? Is it worth it?

    • @goldwyn19

      Assuming that you’ve done that on EBay; by placing the bid, you are obligated to purchase. 🙄 ..by not doing it defeats the purpose of bidding to begin with..
      (Yeah ‘LaTe rEpLy’ atleast someone cared enough to give you one.
      Besides common sense should’ve come in mind before you posted that asinine comment/question).

    There is no dual core i5 version for the 2015 15" model. The 2015 15" base model comes with a 2.2 quad core i7.

      AceUp459 It is the same case with the 2016 model. This comparison is between the 13" models, which only comes in dual core because Intel doesn't produce low power quad cores.

    Man those are some slight changes on the bench mark speeds and I'm pretty sure with this new touch bar the Macbook is going to need that extra power from the processor.

    OK but on the flip side you don't need to upgrade to to all the latest and greatest technology, I mean this just proves it! Companies like Apple and other companies are just trying to convince you that you need all the latest stuff, they just want that you spend your money on it while there quietly dismissing popular standards in the meantime creating a user hostile experience!
    You need understand this, they are companies and companies are to making money, not to lose it. And they don't care ...

    I saw, typed, and played around on the new MacBook the other day as opposed to my 2015 13 inch. Don't like the keyboard, the touch bar is...a dumb gimmick and I'd rather have the physical buttons, the screen looks no different to me (apple claims it's better) the trackpad size...the trackpad on the 2015 is plenty big to me. The size of it...it's hardly noticeable, the difference I mean. If you have a 2015, don't upgrade. If you don't have anything, don't buy it because Apple took away all the great ports that you need in a "pro" computer. Steve jobs is rolling in his grave.

    For those of you that care... or those of you that can't afford a recent MacBook like myself.
    Here are the Bench scores of my MacBook air 13".
    My 2013 MacBook Air i5 with the HD5000 got almost an identical GeekBench Score of...
    GeekBench4: 2756/5177!
    CineBenchR15: 219cb/20.42fps (lol)
    While the 2011 (not a typo, 2011!) MacBook Pro i7/16Gb1600Mhz got
    GeekBench4: 3503/10254.
    CineBenchR15: 494cb/39.32fps
    But these scores don't tell the whole story, modern chip and software are more optimized than ever to get smoother experience. Were as back in the SandyBridge days it was more about sacrifice battery life for Horse Power.

    I chose the 2016 base 13 inch MacBook over the 2015 because I got a good deal on it; $1399 vs $1199 for the 2015. I could justify a $200 difference for the redesign, ~10% upgrade in performance, better speakers, and 2x storage. I also didn't need all of the ports, and I also enjoy the new keyboard.
