Tragic event just horrid, but he was over 300lbs not only is that unhealthy the rides are regulated and three hundred is the top weight. This is dept. of Agricultures job to enforce the code, it could have been prevented by not allowing him due to weight and his parents getting him help for his eating disorder and helping with a healthy lifestyle, it's just awful he suffered like he did with his weight and being turned away at the other rides due to it. I feel bad he never had a chance. No child should suffer like that I feel so bad for him.
@TheDoePatrol you feel so bad, yet the entire first half of your comment can be summarized with “yeah but he was fat.” Just a reminder - a 14 year old child died. Simply stating that you wished the weight limit on this attraction had been enforced would have been more than sufficient
stop playing the game boy wonder! Poor kid should have read the Safety warning sign before he went through the gate! HEIGHT AND WEIGHT IS ON EVERY SIGN AT THE GATE BEFORE THE RIDE!
I was a ride operator back in 2001 to a similar drop tower ride, and shoulder harnesses like that which weren't fully closed for large passengers, would trigger an alert on our control panel and stop the ride from launching or moving. We were trained to screen people and inform them they cannot ride if harnesses cant fully close for their safety. This appears to be the ride operator and parks fault, and possibly manufacturer if the ride lacked the proper automated security alerts to prevent the ride from launching in the first place.
I'm going to guess poorly trained employees and negligent operators were the biggest factors. He was too big for the ride. If you look at the video from the incident, you can see the victim in the background before the ride began. I don't know if it was due to the angle of the video, but his shoulder harness doesn't appear to be fastened properly. There looks to be a large gap between the shoulder harness and the seat, whereas on the other riders the harness actually touches the seat between the riders' legs, locking them into the seat. This should've been a red flag. I'm very curious to know how the safety mechanisms are designed and what the tolerances are.
For a fairly new ride the restraints and safety sensors should be working, the technology to alert and pause the ride from partially closed harnesses have been used in the industry since the 90’s. However this being a smaller park it most likely had poor training, fewer maintenance checks, or possibly an actual malfunctioning defect in the sensors. It also appears it lacked that extra buckle flap as a secondary lock. This is a very unfortunate incident with many simple actions that could have prevented it.
I can't get the image and sound of that poor boy hitting the ground out of my head. And I wasn't there....just watched the video. So many prayers for his family 🙏🙏
@@Alisha.Hassinger.81 I’m so sorry...I work with people and releasing trauma from the subconscious, if you want me to help you tap through it, let me know. What a tragic story for this talented young teen. Life is so so fragile.
Still photos have emerged that clearly show that the harness was not fully closed. I know they claim a light on the panel identifies when this happens, but that system apparently failed. Beyond a light on the panel, though, operators should absolutely check each rider prior to starting the ride. If it’s obvious to a layperson like me that something was wrong, it should be obvious to presumably trained ride operators.
It's fascinating seeing human psychology play out here. The witness said his first reaction was that it felt like a dream, which is a very common response when one goes into shock.
This is why I don't go on these type of rides. I've always felt nervous, and this concludes it for me. RIP to Tyre and condolences to his family and friends.
I rode the Falcon's Fury in Busch Gardens Tampa. 336' and you also tilt forward at the top and come dropping down face down and the chairs swing back forward, like a Falcon coming in for landing. The BIGGEST difference I noticed is Falcon's has what I call a crotch belt. It comes up between your thighs and fastens to the harness. Many roller coasters have this feature as well. WHY oh WHY this seat wasn't designed like Falcon's is mind-boggling! Think about it...you have a 300lb+ person coming screaming down at 70+ MPH and braking suddenly and (physics here...) INERTIA keeps this 300lb+ boy flying straight through the bottom of the harness restraint. There was one video I saw either that day or a day later where it had the actual footage of him coming through the bottom of the restraint and that enough was conclusive for me to see what happened. I CANNOT believe it is taking teams of 'experts', analysis, etc. to try to 'figure this out'. This is RIDICULOUS! This HORRIFIC TRAGEDY to this poor grieving family and the loss of this young boy needs to be compensated and, most importantly, there needs to be a SAFE STANDARDIZED harness system for these types of rides.

The witnesses who were on the ride with this poor boy said point blank, NONE OF THE RIDE OPERATORS came around to check to see if their shoulder harnesses were secured. Unbelievable.
The shoulder harnesses were secured.. the argument isn’t that they weren’t, the argument is that he should’ve never gotten on the ride in the first place BECAUSE of his size. So although the shoulder harness was secured in the system, it wasn’t secured in the victim because of his size. He was ejected by the break run but the harness stayed in the same position that it was locked in
@@foushooI agree he was too big ro ride safely, and that the lock mechanism may have registered "engaged" but they should have done a physical test to ensure it was properly secured, and/or reevaluated his size and made him get off the ride. Operator failure/negligence is clear here.

He also told his friends something didn’t feel right as they went up and he told his friends tell my dad and mom I love them if I don’t make it down smh so heartbreaking (the dad said it in his interview)
Body language should be heavily considered when communicating especially in a topic is devastating as this. It is extremely rude and inconsiderate for that guy (the white older guy who spoke at the end) to be shrugging his shoulders as he spoke about how the ride would not take off if all the riders aren’t locked in. Seems careless and seems as if he just cares about not getting the blame placed on the ride or theme park.
Exactly. I was painfully mute and shy when I was 14 and have always been sensitive to noise and wouldn’t have felt comfortable trying to assert that I may not be secured if there was only a slight doubt or been able to speak loud enough over everything to get their attention. Sometimes instincts of discomfort can overwhelm and override instincts of hesitation.
I was thinking the exact same, with the shoulder shrug etc. And f*ck relying on some damn lights, you could visually SEE that his harness was NOT secure

I can only hope and pray that the poor victim didn’t suffer and died very quickly after he fell or better yet died instantly and didn’t feel anything at all. That’s just in the physical sense since he unfortunately absolutely suffered psychologically and was very, very scared in his final moments as he was riding up the tower due to the fact that he knew something wasn’t right and seems to have somehow known he wasn’t gonna make it. He even told his friends “If I don’t make it down, tell my Mom and Dad I love them”! I'd like to hear from the other riders to hear who all else wasn't checked. Did they check some and not others? If I were an op, I'd def check the larger riders. Why isn't there a bottom seat center belt to latch into the bottom of the harness? If the harness fails, at least the belt would prevent a rider form slipping off.

As a former ride operator, it seems like the only mistake the ride ops made was not noticing that the kid might've exceeded the ride's weight limit. The ride wouldn't have started if the harness was not sufficiently locked. If all lights are green, we assume it's safe to dispatch the ride. I'm not sure how a legal battle would go, because how can the family sue the manufacturer if the kid was over the weight limit? How can they sue the park if the restraint light was green? Who's to blame here? The manufacturer, the park, the operators? Each has a defense

Something happened with that ride to malfunction or something wasn't properly checked which caused that young man to fall and lose his life. My condolences goes out to the family because I have 2 kids myself and hearing this literally touched my heart because it could have easily been prevented.
Facts: Tyre was over the weight limit for the ride where he fell to his death. Other ride operators at this park didn’t allow him on rides because they deemed he was over the weight limit. (They successfully did their job). The operators of this ride ensured he was a fit candidate without asking or checking weight and they did not check the harness to ensure it was locked in. No excuses; this is neglect and this is an unfortunate result of people half-assing their job. Seriously, operating a roller coaster is not a job for immature kids. That’s peoples lives in YOUR hands. Do your damn job!
It’s simple the ride was design poorly. The manufacturers are responsible. If the harness is not able to safely accommodate someone at that range it should have never register a green light. They manufactures are 100% at fault. Their failsafes failed. And that is due to lack of design, proper testing, and rushed approval by the Florida Agriculture and Consumer Safety department. RIP Tyree Sampson. Your death will not be in vain. May this never happen to another person ever again.

At first I blamed the ride attendants, but if the park representative is saying that ride doesn’t even ascend unless all the seats are locked, then Tyree’s seat shouldn’t have gotten a green light. Now this is a manufacturing fault. This ride probably won’t be open for a few months and modifications will be made, even an added seat belt to make riders feel safer.
It’s very unusual how the ride went forward if there is supposed safety green light sensors. It could possibly be a manufacturing defect or possibly the park cut back on proper maintenance, it was a smaller park, compared to Disney or Universal.

@@jonathanevans3853 but can we expect a minimum wage teen to be consistent at what might be his first job at an amusement ride? That’s probably why the green light system was developed. It’s an easier check than a physical tug at harness.
This ride should have been tested rigorously before public operations. With the facts presented as of late, the blame is on the ride maker at this point. Tyre’s seat got a green light somehow. This type of ride absolutely should have a fail safe manual lock. A good old strap and buckle to lock down the harness in case of hydraulic lock failure could have prevented this whole incident.

The harnesses don't "lock in" They just come down as far as they can and lock into whatever position that may be. In this case, it wasn't far down enough to prevent Tyre from sliding under it. The ride staff are responsible. They'll probably just install a seatbelt between the seat bottom and the harness and re-open the ride.
The ride also has a seat belt. In one video one of the riders was asking the operator a question about the seat belt. As the ride is going up the operator yells to the riders if they secured their seat belts. Someone yells out nope. They might have said nope in a joking manner. sadly its physics. the harness may have been in the minimum locked position. this ride angles 30 degrees at the top drops and while dropping comes to its resting angle. he only fell at the deceleration point of the ride not when all his weight was against the harness itself at the top. him being larger but not solid mass made him slip out much like a cat or mouse can slip under a doorway. all that force has to go somewhere. other riders dont hit this threshold and obviously have their harness at what would be "normal" locking levels. a sad and completely avoidable situation if people at any level of this would have used their head. rip young man
Did you look at the ride’s seats? If he slid out, it would have also torn up is crotch. With his chunk of a body, even if the harness was locked in minimal position, the space for him slide isn’t big enough. Also look at the way which he fell, upper body first landing on stomach side. If he slide out don’t you think he would have landed on his butt or back? Fat people ride these things every day just like anyone else, without incident. The weight argument isn’t a good one. Something else happened me thinks.
@@viewer409 not true!! If the harness was locked on his stomach only half way down and with the ride coming down at 75mph and stopping abruptly at 100ft above the ground. Do you not think that’s enough force to launch someone out of their seat giving the velocity and the weight of person in question if they were only half way locked in? That’s just like with a car accident. if someone’s driving full speed and then stops abruptly everything that not secure in place is going to be launched out of the car at the speed and velocity of the car. Same instance with this ride!
This def make more sense to me. Because the ride angles it’s riders on top of his harness was completely unlocked he would have fallen from up top. The force from stopping midway made him slip off.
There was a large gap between the end of the harness and his legs, unlike the other riders where the harness met between their thighs. The harness stopped at about mid belly on the victim leaving a gap large enough for him to slip through. Though the harness may have shown "green" and allowed the ride to operate, it obviously wasn't safe.
You’re the first person who’s brought up the seat tilting 30 degrees at the top before dropping. I’ve been thinking about that a lot. It’s a very important part of the story most people are forgetting, whoever they want to blame. RIP Tyre ✝️
2:51 “the ride doesn’t ascend until everyone is secured in” *shrugs shoulders* well clearly not since he fell to his death since he wasn’t secured or checked in properly. everyone knew by the look of how “locked in” that harness was, he was gonna fall. it’s negligence.
The shrug of his shoulders and the cavalier way the slingshot group rep spoke on this incident is disturbing. Obviously the ride malfunctioned if this kid was able to get on and the ride proceeded. 🙄
Agreed…very disturbing! Corporate bureaucracy and apathy. The representative here was just a few seconds away from saying Tyre himself undid the harness and that’s what led to his death! Reading between the lines that’s basically what he was saying.
Iam in the UK this story wasn't really broken here on our media , I saw it on Facebook .. but I can't stop thinking of Tyre Sampson ... as a mother the horror of what happened to him and how his poor mother must feel is in my head all the time
What is there to investigate the harnesses that hold them weren’t checked and he fell out could’ve happened to anyone if not checked the workers should be held 100% accountable I hope the family of this poor kid gets justice! I could never imagine someone losing their life just trying to live in the moment and enjoy life due to negligence.
I honestly believe that this is a case where he was over the weight limit. It’s simply a case of negligence. The operator did not use good judgement here unfortunately. It’s clear.., He was denied access on every other ride! It’s the operators fault. It’s very sad and unfortunate b/c the operator also looked young. I believe this ride should shut down immediately and never to open again!
I have literally been on a ride like this, the harness was left a little open for me because I have a long torso and large chest and it squished my shoulders & chest down very tight to the point of smashing my spine and since we were going into a freefall the qorkee didn't want my spine crushed, so he lifted the harness a little higher than normal so I would be more comfortable.. Just like this young mans case... (The working trying to help me ultimately almost caused my demise) Once we were up I felt that I wasn't guarded properly (even though I trusted the workers decision to raise the harness a bit) so I decided to hold on for dear life. As we descented.. I almost came out of my seat just like he did.... I was barely able to hold on for literal dear life.. If we had to drop again, I would have completely fallen out because I was already hanging half way out.. Luckily it was only 1 drop and I lived... I don't go on rides like this anymore.. I'm 5'10 and an athletic 270lbs. I was too heavy and too large for that entire setup.. And I could have died on the spot. I was so scared.. And I told the worker what had happened and he just kinda looked around at everyone else (no one else had an issue), once he noticed no one else complained, shrugged and said, "OK" like he didn't believe me.. Even though I was hanging half way out of my harness... A complete gap big enough for me to slip out as the gravity got extreme. Nothing was done and no one else was told about my near death experience. I felt so helpless, and I was panicked from almost dying. I almost couldn't hold my grip.. If it had lasted just a second longer I would have lost my grip.. I still relive it.. I barely made it. I don't know how I didn't end up like this young man. So sorry.. I've realized the rides aren't for larger built people. They are usually meant for people under 5'10" and at a smaller weight. I had the same issue at some tunnel water parks and the raft went flying.. Almost died there too. Again, I've stopped going on rides that throw you around or use your momentum for the ride because for someone heaveir it is catastrophic and the extra height and weight of even 1 person is not calculated into the original safety tests. People with long backs should have a longer more appropriate fitting seats/harnesses. Otherwise the only other option is for the worker to decide to loosen the harness so the riders back isn't crunched into the seat or to tell them they won't be able to ride. The rider has no clue what is and isn't safe for the ride so they have to put trust into the worker.. And the worker isn't taught to look for this type of safety. They just know to make sure the harnesses locks..
That video all over the internet . Ain't no protecting him. He hit that ground HARD. An he is right, NO one checked him before he went up. There is a 4min video from him walking on the ride all the way to his death. No One checked him
His parents are going to be scarred forever.. :( rip, Tyre Sampson 🕊🏈 The person lied about checking him. I hope this place gets shut down permanently.
The operator should have went around to check the seats before letting the ride go. Maybe even tug on the restraints to see if they're locked in. Sure the system will light up when the harness has made contact with the locking device, but that shouldn't be the primary authenticative measure. Machines do fail. This is truly heart breaking and I'm praying for the family 🙏🏾
The operator states that the ride is designed not to operate upon no green light indicator. There absolutely should have been a seat belt style manual backup that locks the harness in case the hydraulic locks fail. To me it seems like the issue is probably with the ride. I bet they developed the green light system because they know minimum wage teens aren’t going to be consistent. Machines, however, should always be such.

stop playing the game boy wonder! Poor kid should have read the Safety warning sign before he went through the gate! HEIGHT AND WEIGHT IS ON EVERY SIGN AT THE GATE BEFORE THE RIDE!
@@christiegroves why does that mean he deserves the death penalty or it’s less sad
He would have been dead of a coronary in a year or two anyway so don't sweat it.

Still photos have emerged that clearly show that the harness was not fully closed. I know they claim a light on the panel identifies when this happens, but that system apparently failed. Beyond a light on the panel, though, operators should absolutely check each rider prior to starting the ride. I went on it one time when I was 13 this ride in Florida too. Never again I’ve always avoided that ride for some reason
I have been on many intense roller coasters and am calm but when I went on this ride I had a full blown panic attack afterwards
That poor kid, he died instantly, we had a family member who was a firefighter in the Bronx, he was on top of a 5 story building after the fire was out, when he was getting into the cherry picker, it moved away from the building and he fell out. Death was immediate, I fell 3 ft on my patio, got a concussion, and fractured my eye socket, I fell on the left side of my face. It was horrible, I can’t imagine what these two guys felt at the height they fell from. God bless them.
I watched an interview where his father spoke out about how long the ambulance took to get there to Tyree and was so sad to find out that he passed away several hours later after arriving at the hospital. I have to keep telling myself that the severity of his injuries made his body go into shock where he felt no pain and didn't suffer because it truly breaks my heart to think otherwise 💔 😢
P.S. I ended up with a fractured eye socket in a bad car accident. It's rare that I come across someone else that has suffered the same kind of injury and just wanted to say that I hope you are healed up and all is well with you ❤️

@@marshalastovall4270 a cherry picker is another way to describe a bucket truck, it looks like a big bucket and the person gets in and can go to heights he needs to go, like tree trimmers and guys working on traffic signals etc.

Good idea a lap belt just extra precaution

Being a Ride Operator for almost 5 years this makes no sense to me
The whole event is a nightmare. The young man who died (may God Love him), his family, his best friend who was with him, the people on the ride and on the ground who witnessed this horrible tragedy. The workers who are probably second guessing themselves. The list goes on.
This was a horrifying, terrible and life changing event. That nice, talented young man will never realize his dream, his family will never see him grow up.
I understand some of what they are going through.
My beloved cousin, Erik, was 14 when he tragically died in a car accident. My family has never been the same.
My grandparents were nearly inconsolable, as were Erik's parents who were my favorite Aunt and Uncle. Their daughter grew up to distrust close relationships and emotionally struggled with marriage. She was 12 when her brother died.
My cousin Erik would have been 46 years old only 2 days ago on March 26th.
He would have been married.
He would have had children.
I would have had the opportunity to have continued to love him and to have adored his wife and kids.
But that was not to be reality.
I'm writing all of this for Tyre's family
Instead, my beloved Aunt and Uncle had another child, Nicholas.
Oh, what a joy he has been to my family and me!!
At 4 years old he educated me on dinosaurs.
At 7 he taught me to play Pokémon!!
He is now 30 years old, has a significant other, Kelly (who I think he needs to make an honest woman) and a beautiful little girl!!
I can't believe how much I love him and how much he means to me.
I want Tyre's family to know that I mourn with them, I emotionally support them and I believe in them to make it through this unthinkable tragedy.

As a former ride operator, it seems like the only mistake the ride ops made was not noticing that the kid might've exceeded the ride's weight limit. Bless his heart. I do not understand how this could happen and my heart goes out to all that knew him. I am sure he will be greatly missed 😢
Facts:
Tyre was over the weight limit for the ride where he fell to his death.
EXACTLY 💯
I AGREE
It’s simple the ride was design poorly. The manufacturers are responsible. If the harness is not able to safely accommodate someone at that range it should have never register a green light.
They manufactures are 100% at fault. Their failsafes failed. And that is due to lack of design, proper testing, and rushed approval by the Florida Agriculture and Consumer Safety department.
RIP Tyree Sampson. Your death will not be in vain. May this never happen to another person ever again.

The ride operator was White and the victim was Black....get ready for riots and looting at Popeyes chicken.....
Yeah big business is always say there's a safety function in order,
Being a person who worked for big company and had a friend who fell 11 stories off the side of the building because of user error,
I still say the attendant could have done his job properly instead of flirting
@@jonathanevans3853 but can we expect a minimum wage teen to be consistent at what might be his first job at an amusement ride? That’s probably why the green light system was developed. It’s an easier check than a physical tug at harness.
This ride should have been tested rigorously before public operations. With the facts presented as of late, the blame is on the ride maker at this point. Tyre’s seat got a green light somehow. This type of ride absolutely should have a fail safe manual lock. A good old strap and buckle to lock down the harness in case of hydraulic lock failure could have prevented this whole incident.

I saw the video
The harness was just over his shoulders there was nothing holding him into the seat from underneath
All that downward momentum launched him out of his seat straight down
Prayers to his family this was definitely preventable
The harness is supposed to lock down right at the hips to keep one from slipping out! That's the way the roller coaster harness operate!
This kid wasn't secured and the operator didn't do their job.
Yeah.. I agree. It’s so sad. This ride should shut down in my opinion out of respect. I will never go on. Neither will my bf. @@MJ-mp1dh no that was a “joke” they do to scare the riders. I live down the street from icon park there are NO SEATBELTS. @@MJ-mp1dh That ride doesn't have seat belts he was joking!
@@marydavis7978 there's an entire video of them talking about the seatbelts as the ride was going up
sadly its physics. the harness may have been in the minimum locked position. this ride angles 30 degrees at the top drops and while dropping comes to its resting angle. he only fell at the deceleration point of the ride not when all his weight was against the harness itself at the top. him being larger but not solid mass made him slip out much like a cat or mouse can slip under a doorway. all that force has to go somewhere. other riders dont hit this threshold and obviously have their harness at what would be "normal" locking levels. a sad and completely avoidable situation if people at any level of this would have used their head. rip young man
Did you look at the ride’s seats?

I could never imagine someone losing their life just trying to live in the moment and enjoy life due to negligence.
I honestly believe that this is a case where he was over the weight limit. It’s simply a case of negligence. The operator did not use good judgement here unfortunately. It’s clear..,
He was denied access on every other ride!
No One checked him
This breaks my heart. He had so much to live for.
His parents are going to be scarred forever.. :( rip, Tyre Sampson 🕊🏈 The person lied about checking him. I hope this place gets shut down permanently.
Every ride should have back up harnesses. Those shoulder things are terrifying. A malfunction and you're toast.
