      "Clean" is not the term I would use for Geylang... Usually i cant stand the birds all over the place..yuck. but the food is good. Have it to go.

    TQ Greg, looks so sedap!!!, this be on our list when visiting Singapore 2022 for 'foodie crawl' . Pre Covid I came across a stall in Camden Town area, London only selling most delicious authentic beef/chicken rendang. Hopefully they're still there. 3.10.21. Keep safe!!

    Sinar Pagi and Hajjah maimunah are my favourite nasi padang stall/restaurant to eat at. Two thumbs up!

    • @JiFan

      Hajjah Maimunah is NOT Nasi Padang.. it's Malay Kampong food. Nasi Padang is very different, it's authentic Indonesian food 🙂

    The food is definitely better than the usual Nasi Padang stalls in Singapore but in terms of taste I definitely you should try the Sari Ratu Stall near Haji lane, the rendang there has got to be the closest thing you can get to the ones in Jakarta!! :-)

      Is it better than their lucky plaza outlet? It was good but recently the quality not so good

      Gregory Leow I've never tried the one in town(probably too overrated since it's orchard road), but the Haji Lane one is pretty decent. You should give it a try, I'd like to know what you think of it!!

    Yes they are quite expensive but nice in flavor.. you should try the sabar menanti ll nasi padang along north bridge road. Taste is good and not too pricey as well.

    In Singapore, if the food served at a nasi Padang stall (not restaurant) is really good, chances are the prices charged are high. You can never get cheap and good nasi Padang.

    Indonesian here. You can find the rendang in ordinary padang resto back in indo. However, the authentic beef rendang will be cooked super long until the color turned black and the meat is toughened.
    But i can vouch that sinar pagi is legit indonesian style nasi padang, however, the sambal belacan is not authentic at all.

    • @GregoryLeow
      @GregoryLeow  6 років тому

      How should the sambal belachan be in Indonesia? Are you talking about sambal belado?

    • @carlosliwang2518
      @carlosliwang2518 6 років тому +1

      Gregory Leow sambal belachan is actually not that common in padamg cuisine. We mostly eat sambal ijo along side the other dishes. I recommend the food rangers video in bukit tinggi. The bebek is awesome and the nasi kapau.

    Sinar Pagi used to be my go to place when I need my Nasi Padang fix, now I choose Warung M Nasir at millinery just to avoid the queue.
    Quite hard to get a proper Rendang here in Singapore. Most of them don't render the santan long enough.

    I make it a rule, if the prices are not advertised or printed then I'll move on elsewhere. There's a reason why the store owner doesn't show the prices readily.

    • @GregoryLeow
      @GregoryLeow  6 років тому +1

      Most Nasi Padang places don’t display prices. It’s all agar agar pricing

    • @RiverDanube
      @RiverDanube 6 років тому

      Gregory Leow That explains why I have never bought from one of these stores. I remember looking curiously at stores like this and wondering how on earth they work by way of pricing. The food looked good.

  • @SamsungTay
    @SamsungTay 6 років тому +5

    Overprice... avoid at all cost. Different selling price to different races.

    • @sumit6190p
      @sumit6190p 5 років тому

      How much does the food cost here on average?

    • @JiFan
      @JiFan 3 роки тому

      Hmmm really? Nothing to do with race. Veggies are $1.50 or $2 per serving. Chicken and beef are $3.50-$4 per piece. Fish, squid and the specials (offal etc) $3.50-6 per piece/serving. So it all actually adds up.. and is easy to count yourself.

    I been there, the pigeons and mynas were there eating the leftovers, I look around, there were birds like ( 4 to 5 feasting on the leftovers )on almost every table, the cleaners haphazardly cleaned, clear certain dishes on the tables , extremely unhygienic condition.true enough I had diarrhea on my home.the authorities should come and look at the appalling condition.

    • @JiFan
      @JiFan 3 роки тому

      I agree!! The food is great, but the environment leaves much to be desired 😱 The birds are a hygiene hazard and a nuisance to say the least... 🥺🤮
