I’m very grateful to Pete as I had somehow overlooked this band. I only knew Don’t Fear the Reaper and nothing else. I got into them after he picked Secret Treaties as his album of 1974. I knew an album that came top in that year had to be killer. And it was. I now own several of their albums and working my way through their catalogue. All thanks to Pete.
@@jimmycampbell78 that is cool ya not everyone know everything about every band i used to be a DJ for a number of years there is loads of great music to be found out there I think i turned pete on to a Canadian band goddo if u like BOC you should check them out There is no guarantees in life but i think you will like goddo
I saw BOC in a large club in Dallas last year (holds 2500-3000), and all around I could see 14-16 year-old kids singing every lyric to songs that never touched the radio. As time marches on, it's becoming clear who stands the test.
1.Morning Final-Agents of Fortune 2.The Great Sun Jester-Mirrors 3.Fireworks-Spectres 4.I am the Storm- Mirrors 5.Dial M for Murder- Bonus track on Spectres
Blue Oyster Cult is a very underrated band in general. However, even they have underrated songs for their standarts! Here's an underrated song from every album! Blue Oyster Cult - She's As Beautiful As A Foot Tyranny And Mutation - Baby Ice Dog Secret Treaties - Subhuman Agents Of Fortune - Tenderloin Spectres - Golden Age Of Leather Mirrors - Moon Crazy Cultosaurus Erectus - Deadline Fire Of Unknown Origin - After Dark The Revolution By Night - Feel The Thunder Club Ninja - Madness To The Method Heaven Forbid - Hammer back Curse Of The Hidden Mirror - Pocket
@@garretwoeller7669 I love Fireworks as well. i would especially recommend Golden Age Of Leather, Moon Crazy and Deadline, which are somewhere in my top favourites by them!
This is kind of tough, but being a diehard BOC fan for many years, this would be some of my favorite deep cuts: Flaming Telepaths, Stairway To The Stars, Nosferatu, I love The Night, Monsters, Lips In The Hills See You In Black.
Best band ever. You never get tired of their songs. Live album "On your feet..." is a favorite, not technically but spiritual, it has life🤩👍💖 Nice to see mr Popoff, I got them two books😉
This is SO cool! Martin is just the right guy for this one. My 10 deep cut BOC pics: 1) Death Valley Nights - Spectres (maybe Albert's best song) 2) Deadline - Cultosaurus Erectus 3) Redeemed - Blue Oyster Cult (their most psychedelic song on a BOC record) 4) The Siege and Investiture of Baron von Frankenstein's Castle at Weisseria - Imaginos (How's that for a long song title?) 5) Monsters - Cultosaurus Erectus 6) Moon Crazy - Mirrors 7) Shadow of California - Revolution By Night 8) When The War Comes - Club Ninja (very underrated Joe Bouchard track) 9) Morning Final - Agents of Fortune 10) Teen Archer - Tyranny and Mutation I must say I've seen BOC around 60+ times and they are quite the deep cut band in a live setting. They always pull out some deep ones for every show.
@RoeserFan1 Nice set list you saw at that gig. Dr Music Teen Archer Burnin for you OD on Life Shooting Shark Vigil ETI Bucks Boogie Then Came The Last Days Of May Tattoo Vampire Godzilla Noodle / Reaper Encores: Dominance and Submission Hot Rails Cities on Flame I saw them Feb 2019 and this was the set list. Dr Music Before the Kiss Golden Age of Leather Burning for You Summer of Love Shooting Shark The Vigil ETI Buck's Boogie Last Days of May Screams Beautiful as a Foot Godzilla DFTR (inc. BD solo) Encores: Dancing in the Ruins Hot Rails to Hell
I was intrigued that Martin led off his likes with “Mirrors.” Far from the “Imaginos” concept, Buck sent me a bunch of random guitar riffs to listen to. One caught my attention. I was in my easy chair listening, and picked up my wife’s Vogue magazine. Flipping through the pages, the words “Pretty girls can’t look away” popped into mind as the words matched the cadence of the riff. The rest then wrote itself. Thanks, you guys made an old man’s night!
Glad they're finally releasing a new studio album this year after releasing about 362 live albums the past two decades. But here are my deep cuts: 1. The Entire Imaginos album 2. White Flags (Club Ninja) 3. Flaming Telepaths (Secret Treaties) 4. Harvester of Eyes (Secret Treaties) 5. Out of the Darkness (Curse of the Hidden Mirror) 6. Harvest Moon (Heaven Forbid) Not sure "Subhuman" fits the bill, but that could be there too, as a slightly more obscure track.
Yeah, I’m obsessed with Quicklime Girl right now. It’s definitely the best song on the album. It took a while for it to catch on with me, but that riff is irresistible, and Albert’s syncopated beats are innovative; almost grungy.
Alternate playing this with "Brandy" (by Looking Glass) and see if you also hear the "good cop / bad cop" element to it (Mistress of the Salmon Salt being the dark side).
For me, BOC are the greatest rock band of all time and I really enjoyed this video. There are so many deep cuts possible from this great band so yes, please do another show. I'm going to pick another 10 not mentioned by yourselves, although of course I absolutely love all the ones you've talked about, especially: Nosferatu and Hammer Back. In no particular order: Sinful Love, Stone Of Love, Magna Of Illusion, Live For Me, Divine Wind, Fireworks, The Vigil, Perfect Water, Shooting Shark and Workshop Of The Telescopes.
1. Wings Wetted Down 2. After Dark 3. Monsters 4. I am the Storm 5. Spy in the House of the Night 6. The Old Gods Return 7. Hammer Back 8. Dragon Lady 9. Vengeance (The Pact) 10. Tenderloin This list was near impossible for me to do. And this was just my favorite deep cuts. Favorite band of all time!
In 1976 with my $9.00 paper route money 💰/ I bought my 4 th album AGENTS of Fortune so I’ve had an early history with this tremendous group. Thx PETE & MARTIN
Great show, guys, enjoyed it very much! Martin, about the dot matrix printed lyric sheets, I know they go back to at least Tyranny and Mutation. I acquired the album when it came out (in "Quadraphonic Sound"!) and my buddy and I sent off for them. We had a recent online discussion about the album, and he wrote: "I still have the lyrics sheets we mailed out for, like 45 years ago. I mentioned this to Sandy one day when we were hanging out in the office (Alpha & Omega Studio & 415/Columbia Records shared a suite) and he told me that he printed them out himself on his personal home computer and mailed them. He was floored when I brought them in to show him."
My Blue Öyster Cult Deep Cut Dive: #5. Sally #4. Live for Me #3. Out of the Darkness #2. Redeemed #1. Don't Turn Your Back Also sad news about something completely different. Composer Ennio Morricone has passed away at the age of 91. If you don't know who that is, since he himself has kept a low profile as a public person, search up the name. May he rest in piece!
I've been on a couple of BÖC marathons in the past few weeks, so it's relatively fresh in my head, and let me just say that the sheer amount of interesting deep cuts in their catalogue is nothing short of staggering! Here are my picks: 1. The Vigil (probably known as one of the best songs from Mirrors, but hey- it's an underrated album in general. To me this song is irresistible with so much of its guitar content. Atmospheric, melodic and with many lead breaks. I also get a nice range of vibes from this song- almost as if you get Deep Purple, The Beatles and early '70s Judas Priest all in one. This song is packed!) 2. Tenderloin (Another song that is crammed with musical content, this time a considerably shorter one... This is a good showcase of BÖC's skill to make songs that are sort of awkward and elegant at the same time... Among the highlighted parts is Buck's funky jazz riffs around the 2-minute mark and the harmonies right at the end.) 3. Searchin' for Celine (More diversity with a song that is kind of boogie but goes into total jazz mode for the final lead break... Allen Lanier was a consistently good keyboardist and yet I'd say this is one of his top moments.) 4. Spy in the House of the Night (Club Ninja is a mini-well for deep cuts, pun intended for Perfect Water... However, on this last marathon it's one of the songs that I overlooked earlier but found myself suddenly addicted to... To me it's actually more reminiscent of maybe Cultosaurus or Fire.) 5. Fallen Angel (Speaking of Cultosaurus, not only is this song quite fun and catchy, but it's actually a deep cut of the rarest kind... That's because it features Joe Bouchard on vocals, but contrary to something like Nosferatu, he has a sort of Graham Bonnet type wail here!) 6. Workshop of the Telescopes (One of my faves from the debut; gorgeous songwriting and some of those The Doors vibes.) 7. 7 Screaming Diz-Busters (If you're looking for some of BÖC best displays of early heavy metal, this one says it all... Buck absolutely shreds licks that might even be ahead of their time.) 8. Vengeance/The Pact (Expanding on the heavy metal part, this one actually has shades of nwobhm in it. Truly one of the hidden gems from Fire of Unknown Origin.) 9. Veins (An almost hilarious contrast of innocent sounding AOR-type musicality with potentially psychopathic and homicidal lyrics, almost like Fight Club meets The Tell-Tale Heart.) 10. Dragon Lady (Another from The Revölution by Night, a catchy but psudo-heavy song that seems to combine more classic BÖC with some of their 80's efforts.)
My Bouchard brothers dominated picks in chronological order: 1. Screams/She's as Beautiful as a Foot from the debut. 2. Wings Wetted Down from Tyranny and Mutation. 3. Nosferatu from Spectres. 4. Monsters from Cultosaurus Erectus. 5. Vengeance (The Pact) from Fire of Unknown Origin. Albert and Joe were and are vital artists who get lost in the shadow of the big three Roeser hits.
Agreed. Joe and Albert are both great songwriters, but Buck had the knack for writing the hits. The Bouchards were crucial to the band's early success.
Hi Pete and Martin. Here are my Deep Cuts. 1. Subhuman - Secret Treaties (Not Deep Enough?) 2. Searchin' for Celine - Spectres 3. I am the Storm - Mirrors 4. Monsters - Cultasaurus Erectus 5. Veteran of Psychic Wars - Fire of Unknown Origin
Blue ÖysterCult, huge band! •See You in Black •Flaming telepaths •Harvest Moon •ME 262 •The Great Sun Jester •Divine Wind •Lips in the Hills •Perfect Water •I Am the One You Warned Me Of •The Siege and Investiture of Baron von Frankenstein's Castle at Weisseria
So many gems in the treasure chest to choose from, but I think I’ll go with two back-to-back pairs from Spectres - the Side One desolate desert duo of of “Golden Age of Leather” followed by “Death Valley Nights” and the Side Two creatures of the night mating of “I Love the Night” and “Nosferatu”. The melodies, the lyrics, and the haunting harmonizing here - BOC made some magic music.
I could compile a list of BÖC tracks that would go on for days, because they're one of my favorite bands. But here's the list of 10 deep cuts I threw together in (eager) anticipation of this video. Surprisingly, I only matched one from Martin's list, and none from Pete's. In chronological order: Baby Ice Dog (Tyranny and Mutation) Wings Wetted Down (Tyranny and Mutation) The Revenge of Vera Gemini (Agents of Fortune) Goin' Through the Motions (Spectres) I Love the Night (Spectres) You're Not the One I Was Looking For (Mirrors) Unknown Tongue (Cultosaurus Erectus) Vengeance (The Pact) (Fire of Unknown Origin) Veins (The Revolution By Night) Shadow of California (The Revolution By Night)
I'm glad you guys did this! Just a few days ago, I was sending my litany of Blue Öyster Cult to friends, adding onto it with each iteration. You guys hit on a lot of key points, but as you know, it's tough to insist somebody listen to an entire discography. Each album sounds like it should be coming from an entirely different band, and many songs tend to span genres even. I love this band, and I can still remember going to a concert, being about five feet away from Buck, and I jumped up and down and screamed, "Mirrors," like a crazy man because I was, and he started playing The Vigil, which is still awesome, but I was hoping for the Mirrors cover. If I can't explain their greatness to a child, I can't understand it myself, so here goes: Super poppy: Still Burnin'; modern metal: Hammer Back; country: Real World; tear jerker: Live For Me; wedding dance: Light Years of Love; sad break up: In Thee; glad breakup: Revenge of Vera Gemini; pompous rock: Magna of Illusion; coming out: Celestial the Queen; staying in: Out of the Darkness; don't do drugs: Feel the Thunder; do do drugs: I Love The Night; don't sell drugs: Then Came The Last Days of May; quit killing people: Make Rock Not War; start killing people: Divine Wind; kick some ass: Beat 'Em Up; go ahead and be yourself, but look out: Madness to the Method; feel the romance, Girlie: White Flags; run from that guy, Girlie: See You In Black; it all works out: You're Not The One (I Was Looking For); if Green Day wanted to rekindle a relationship: Here Comes That Feeling; don't get blackout drunk: Veins; you're drunk, I bet you won't write a song right now and put it on an album: Let Go; those bikers can be a rough lot: Transmaniacon MC; sometimes, bikers can just crack you up: The Golden Age of Leather; talk is cheap: Eye of the Hurricane; you can't take advantage, Girlie: Sinful Love; honey bees have it tough: Wings Wetted Down; some may blame the plague on vampires: Nosferatu; perhaps a lyric that inspired the name of the coming album: Shadow of California; other genius worth hearing: everything else. I'm sure the band could weigh in on these thoughts, but they've got better things to do. Great job breaking things down and restricting yourselves like that--I know it's difficult!
Actually, the dot matrix printer lyrics offer were already on their second album, Tyranny and Mutation - look at the inner sleeve! I still have the printouts. ;)
Nosferatu is my favorite deep cut from them. If it counts I like Joan Crawford too. Sole Survivor is great as well. Finally, I really like the song Golden Age of Leather. ALSO forgot the Revenge of Vera Gemini. Edit: Very surprised Nosferatu was mentioned. My favorite BÖC song.
The Revenge of Vera Gemini is my favorite BOC deep cut track because it features my girl Patti Smith on spoken word and backing vocals. Fun fact: she dated Allen Lanier at that time.
Thank you Pete for hosting Martin in this video. BOC is one of my favorite American bands; and I have had the privilege of meeting them on, off and backstage!! As well as being kissed on the cheek by the best shortest guitarist in rock. (Next to Joe B, of course). In fact I've met all of them including Rick Downey. I too have an obsession with the supernatural and vampires; which is what attracted me to them in the first place. I've been lucky to have seen them play I Love The Night, Tattoo Vampire, Deadline, and Blue Coupe play Nosferatu. Have yet to see any incarnation do Wings Wetted Down though. I was emailing Eric (through MySpace) for awhile and finally just asked him about the influence of HP Lovecraft and vampires in their music. He admitted that HPL was an influence, but mostly because of Pearlman and Krugman. Although The Old Gods Return was written by Bloom, Dharma and John Shirley. Anyway, there is an interesting article that interprets their 'vampire' songs. It is very good; Overlooked Pearls: The Blue Oyster Cult and the Vampire in Popular Music. by David F Hallett and J Robin Martin; if you are interested. Because I have played all of the albums to death; well near Death (Club Ninja and Imaginos) and because I have seen them live 13 times I have a hard time with the FIVE deep cuts. I would suggest one from each album. Thank you for the research, time and knowledge of your channel. You too Martin!
I was barely 10 years old when I first listened to Blue Oyster Cult. Back then I would go to Camelot Music and buy cassette tapes from the $1 and $2 sections very often. I worked at my dad's restaurant on the weekends , and I made $50 every week. I have always loved music ever since I can remember, especially Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal music. The general manager at the Camelot Music store I always went to with my older sister was a huge Hard Rock/ Heavy Metal fan, so I always got him to show me everything in the $1 and $2 sections that is Heavy Metal music. One time he pointed at Blue Oyster Cult's album Club Ninja in the $2 section and I loved it on my first listen big time. I know that it is considered to be their weakest album from most Blue Oyster Cult fans, but I have always loved it and I still do. The whole album other than Perfect Water is pretty much deep cuts. I love everything on it, but some of my favorites are White Flags, Shadow Warrior, When The War Comes, Spy In The House Of The Night, and Madness To The Method. I do also love songs like Make Rock Not War and Beat Em Up even though they have not aged really well.
Great recommendations on both the video and the comments - with BÖC's amazing entire catalog spanning many decades - you could put together a dozen different lists of great deep cuts.
My ten- 1. Frankenstein 2. Don't Turn Your Back 3. Deadline 4. Divine Wind 5. She's As Beautiful As A Foot 6. Vera Gemini 7.See You In Black 8. Real World 9.X ray Eyes 10.Unknown Tongue.
Five best, "deep cuts" (I chose songs I never saw a video of) because that's what the video is about: Hot Rails to Hell Golden Age of Leather I Love the Night The Vigil X-ray Eyes
The amazing Blue Öyster Cult's 80's output is very much underrated. Cultösaurus Erectus: Monsters / Fire Of Unknown Origin: Vengeance (The Pact), After Dark / The Revölution By Night: Veins, Shadow of California, Dragon Lady / Club Ninja: White Flags, Spy in the House of the Night, Madness to the Method / Imaginos: I Am the One You Warned Me Of, In the Presence of Another World, The Siege and Investiture of Baron von Frankenstein's Castle at Weisseria. Also have to mention earlier tracks such as Lonely Teardrops and Moon Crazy from Mirrors and the marvellous Fireworks from Spectres, and speaking of Spectres, I have to add Death Valley Nights and Nosferatu.
Could have a ton of deep cuts for this amazing band. Check out “In Thee” from Mirrors a great pop tune that should have been a number one hit. Also “I Love The Night” from Spectres and “Debbie Denise” from Agent’s of Fortune for their Pop craft. On the heavy side dig into their early catalog particularly the amazing live album “On your Feet or on your Knees” heavy times ten.
Fireworks from Spectres, Screams and Foot from the debut and Sinful Love and Morning Final from Agents. '''Dare-devil, she-devil, printer's-devil, evil.
After Dark and Nosferatu would be on my list too. Others would be Sinful Love, The Old Gods Return, Death Valley Nights, Lonely Teardrops, Take Me Away, Harvest Moon, Perfect Water. I still haven't heard their entire catalog, so there could be others.
"Deadline", from Cultasaurus: love the foreboding vibe on this otherwise very poppy song song. "Les Invisibles", from Imaginos: when that riff hits in the chorus is so good, but then it comes back when it seems like its going back to the verse. Holy crap "Monsters", from Cultasaurus: love the messed up sci-fi lyrics. Super heavy as well. Almost NWOBHM "Shadow Warrior", from Club Ninja: Starts out doomy, and then ventures into all out SPEED METAL. Gotta love it. "Celestial the Queen", from Spectres: my favorite BOC album. I just love how dreamy this song sounds. I can listen to it over and over. Honorable mention: Blue Oyster Cult (the subhuman), from Imaginos
Blue Öyster Cult is one of my favorite bands of all time. It’s gonna be really difficult, since I’d say most of their songs are deep cuts, but I’ll try to limit myself on this one. 1. “Transmaniacon MC” off the debut 2. “Teen Archer” off Tyranny and Mutation 3. “The Revenge of Vera Gemini” off Agents of Fortune 4. “Unknown Tongue” off Cultösaurus Erectus 5. “After Dark” off Fire of Unknown Origin EDIT: Know what, I really have to at least mention the rest of the songs I love from BÖC that don’t ever get enough love. So here’s the rest of my full list: • I’m on the Lamb but I Ain’t No Sheep • Then Came the Last Days of May • Stairway to the Stars • Before the Kiss, A Redcap • Screams • She’s as Beautiful as a Foot • Workshop of Telescopes • Hot Rails to Hell • Mistress of the Salmon Salt (Quicklime Girl) • Black Blade • Monsters • Deadline • Lips in the Hills • Fire of Unknown Origin • Sole Survivor • Vengeance (The Pact) • Joan Crawford (I know it charted but it doesn’t get enough praise)
B.O.C one of my all-time favorite bands! Blue Oyster Cult's new studio album, “The Symbol Remains”, due for release this October! It's been 19 years since their last studio release! Sadly we are down to only 2 original members Buck Dharma & Eric Bloom. However, bassist Danny Miranda, who joined in 1995 when replacing original bassist Joe Bouchard, is also still with the band. Here are my 10 Deep Cuts . . . Wings Wetted Down - Tyranny and Mutation Career of Evil - Secret Treaties Morning Final - Agents of Fortune True Confessions - Agents of Fortune I Love the Night - Spectres Nosferatu - Spectres The Great Sun Jester - Mirrors The Marshall Plan - Cultosaurus Erectus Vengeance (The Pact) - Fire of Unknown Origin Sole Survivor - Fire of Unknown Origin
Sorry to contradict you, but Eric was not an 'original' member, he replaced Les Braunstein. The ORIGINAL group lineup was Buck Dharma, Albert Bouchard, Allen Lanier, singers Jeff Kagel and bassist Andrew Winters. But for our purposes yes, Eric is an original member when referring to studio albums.
I remember those computer lyric sheets !!!! Great Band. Had the BEST light/Laser show1977-78 before they stopped allowing bands to shoot lasers into the eyes of the audience. I attended SUNY Potsdam 1976-78 and the Cult's origins were actually there, before dropping out and moving to LI. Buck was a Clarkson engineering student in the mid-1960s while the Bouchards were from up the road in Watertown, NY. In the spring of 1977, BOC brought their entire big arena rig to the tiny 2K seat Walker arena in Potsdam and put on a hell of a show. They were touring on Agents of Fortune, showcased those songs, and many of the best B&W era tunes. Made me a fan for life. Caught them many times the next 5 years. Another memorable show was them performing at My Fathers Place on LI in 1982 as "Soft White Underbelly". Sad that internal divisions with the Bouchards damaged the band. They seemed to run out of songs the mid 80s. Still great act ...I caught them in Peekskill last year. RIP Alan Lanier.
My deep cuts are (in chronological order) Morning Final - a weird song about a subway murder. The riff is *almost* discoish, it's very catchy, but the bridge is almost proggy. It's a really interesting song Nosferatu - Great choice by Pete and has always been a favourite. Mirrors - Great choice by Martin, I think the lyrics are more applicable in the internet age. Monsters - Another weird one from Cultasaurus Erectus. I don't normally like saxophone, but the weird sax breaks work in this song. Demon's Kiss - From Bad Channels, which no one talks about. It's a great, really catchy and proves BOC could still write great songs. Honourable mention (cheating!): Real World - From Heaven Forbid. A catchy bluesy number sung by Buck that I really like.
Madness to the Method was immediate for me. It’s my “cooking song” for some reason. I remember thinking it was strange that I hadn’t heard such a great song mentioned more prominently. It really is one of their best 80’s songs though, for sure.
Great show, gents! I love B.O.C. and Martin's books are a HUGE reason for my deep fandom. Sea Of Tranquility is one of my favorite UA-cam channels, Pete is the man!!
I wish they played Astronomy all the time. Anyone seeing BOC live in the last 10 years might well consider Astronomy a deep cut. Agents of Fortune was the first album to invite fans to write in for the lyrics. It took mine six months to reach me and I was so excited when it arrived.
Great show Pete and Martin, spent hours trying to select 5 deep dive cuts but found it impossible, I love em all to much. Had tickets to see the oyster boys in the UK this spring supporting Deep Purple (What a show that would have been, damn virus). Glad to see Steve Morse in yesterday's interview with Pete confirming this year's gigs have been rebooked and hope BOC will still be on the bill in the UK. I would recommend Martins BOC books, required reading for Cult fans.
Here are a few of my deep cuts: Teen Archer, Divine Wind, Soul Survivor, Cagey Cretins, Dragon Lady, The Siege and Investiture Of Baron Von Frankenstein's Castle at Weisseria and Screams
Glad to hear "Mirrors" getting some recognition. To me, it's one of their most consistent albums, with memorable hooks and a sound that walks the line between 80's AOR and proggy hard rock...sort of BOC's take on the California rock sound. Great record!
I got my copy of Blue Öyster Cult: A Visual Biography yesterday! It's awesome! Thanks, Mr. Popoff! My 5 Deep Cuts(I know I lean heavily towards Buck) are: Stone of Love from The Curse of the Hidden Mirror Real World from Heaven Forbid Mistress of the Salmon Salt(Quicklime Girl) from Tyranny and Mutation A Spy in the House of the Night from Club Ninja Deadline from Cultosaurus Erectus
@Martin Popoff Thanks for putting the book together, I'm a huge fan of the band. I just don't get tired of them and I love finding pictures from back in the day, especially of Eric and Buck "chainsawing" their guitars. Deadline is just a perfect scary story set to music, absolutely haunting in its composition and Buck's vocal delivery.
@@Trilaan That's the great thing about BOC ... you can listen to them for decades & never get tired of them, so many layers & variations to their music/catalogue ... Unique band.
True Deep Cuts for each album (These are what I consider awesome but cuts you don't hear much about) Blue Oyster Cult - Screams, Workshop of the telescopes Tyranny and Mutation - Teen Archer Secret Treaties - Flaming Telepaths Agents of Fortune - This Ain't the Summer of Love, Revenge of Vera Gemini, Tattoo Vampire, Morning Final Spectres - Death Valley Nights, Goin' through the Motions, I Love the Night, Nosferatu Mirrors - The Great Sun Jester, I am the Storm, Lonely Teardrops (The Vigil isn't considered a deep cut IMO) Cultosaurus Erectus - Divine Wind, Deadline, Unknown Tongue Fire of Unknown Origin - Heavy Metal: The Black and Silver, Vengeance (The Pact), After Dark, Don't Turn Your Back Revolution By Night - Veins, Shadow of California, Light Years of Love Club Ninja - (The whole second side! LOL) Beat Em' Up, Shadow Warrior, Madness to The Method Imaginos - Les Invisibles, The Siege and Investiture of Baron von Frankenstein's Castle at Weisseria Heaven Forbid - Hammer Back, Cold Gray Light of Dawn, Still Burnin Curse of the Hidden Mirror - Pocket,
BOC is the only band with a killer guitar solo on EVERY SONG!!!! Your idea to do a show on the best BOC guitar solos is ingenious. I'm working on my top 100 right now! (-:
my 30 favorite BOC songs of all time... 30. Perfect water 29. Fallen angel 28. Take me away 27. Dominance and submission 26. The marshall plan 25. O.D.'d on life itself 24. Baby ice dog 23. Astronomy 22. Sinful love 21. (Don't fear) the reaper 20. Mirrors 19. Career of evil 18. The revenge of Vera Gemini 17. Monsters 16. After dark 15. Don't turn your back 14. Divine wind 13. Shooting shark 12. Unknown tongue 11. I am the storm 10. Burnin' for you 09. Morning final 08. Dancin' in the ruins 07. Fire of unkown origin 06. Deadline 05. Black blade 04. Vengeance 03. Lips in the hills 02. Subhuman 01. The vigil
To keep my post brief: Every song from their first 4 studio albums. Seriously, I'd go crazy trying to pick favorites from those albums alone. And then you've got a ton of songs from all the albums that followed.. Nuts, I tell ya.
Lately, I can't get enough of "The Revenge Of Vera Gemini". This is simply a killer track for many reasons, among which are: That bass, that groove, the vocals by both Albert and Patti are haunting, the dark lyrics, the guitar work, the keyboard work is stellar, the drum sound, the composition of the song. Did I leave anything out? There are times when I think this is the best track on the entirety of Agents Of Fortune. And that's saying something, because I love every track on this album, including Debbie Denise, a song that gets slagged now and then, but I've always loved it. ETI is also a fantastic song for all the same reasons as Revenge. True Confessions is a funky number that totally works for me. I could just go down the track listing and comment on every one of them, but I'll spare you all. 🙂 I love Agents Of Fortune. Maybe not as much as I love the first three albums, but I still love it very much, and never skip a track while playing it. The production is a bit murky to my ears, but the songwriting and performances more than make up for any shortcoming in that department.
Anything really from Imaginos. A deep deep hidden gem within 80s rock, full of brilliant discoveries. "Del Rios Song", "In the presence of another World". Two amazers that sound totally different from eachother. Del Rio is a huge feel good anthem- massive chorus. In the presence... meanwhile is an excellent, eerie atmospheric rocker. Id also go with "Veteran of the Psychic Wars" from Fire of Unknown Origin. The icy, chilling synths layer this unreal, creepy spacey vibe with a soldier beat percussion. Just incredible.
In high school I had a copy of their best of CD (Don't Fear The Reaper), mid-2000's. Came around to listening to the whole discography and they definitely have deep cuts that I'm glad I got to hear. Monsters, Blue Öyster Cult, Dancin in the Ruins are up there!! Love the video
Huge fan. Caught 'em 26 times so far. Here are my top five deep cut selections: Blue Oyster Cult- Redeemed Club Ninja- Perfect Water Tyranny & Mutation- O.D.'d On Life Itself Heaven Forbid- Real World Cultosaurus Erectus- Hungry Boys
The Last Days of May finally crept into my heart as a favorite. Spectres is my favorite album, and of course the best line in music, "time to play b-sides."
Dominance and Submission- On your Feet or on your Knees. I did not see any comments about this live album which I think is one the best live albums of all time.
Great video. I had the lyric printouts too, but only had to send a SASE to get them. I agree about "Mirrors". The album isn't my favorite, but the song is awesomely catchy and hard to get out of your head after hearing. It was co-written by Bruce Abbott, who also co-wrote another great song, "Golden Age of Leather". "Transmaniacon MC" became relatively well-known after it was included in the Guitar Hero game. Hope you guys do a part 2 in the future. BOC has so many songs worth talking about!
Gil Blanco County (as Stalk Forrest Group, their predecessor), Redeemed, Revenge of Vera Gemini, The Vigil, Frankenstein (from the quasi-reunion Imaginos concept album).
1. The Great Sun Jester 2. The Vigil 3. The Storm 4. Mirrors 4. In Thee 5. You're not the one I was looking for All from Mirrors ! But it is a massively underrated album , 2nd best after Secret Treaties IMHO. Perfect Water but they play that live.
Thanks Pete and Martin. So many deep cuts for BOC. Top 3 band for me since the late 70's. Here goes: Flaming Telepaths Morning Final Golden Age of Leather You're Not the One (I Was Looking For) Eyes on Fire
Here's five from the weeds that I like a lot! "Golden Age of Leather" "Les Invisibles" "A Spy in the House of the Night" (Yes, I know it's from "Club Ninja" and I don't care. I still like it!) "Celestial the Queen" "Before the Kiss, a Redcap" and, I vote yes for a 2nd (or 3rd) BOC "Deep Cut Dive".
Great band,my favourite has to be the Imaginos album. The seige and investiture of Baron Von Frankenstein's castle at Weisseria is a 'monster' of a track,as well as having the longest title in the world!
I love BOC! I was looking forward to this deep-dive! My list: 1)The Siege And Investiture of Baron Von Frankenstein's Castle At Weisseria 2)The Old Gods Return 3)Deadline 4)Let Go 5)Celestial The Queen 6)Sole Survivor 7)Blue Oyster Cult 9)Make Rock Not War 10)Showtime
1. See You In Black 2. Fireworks 3. Vengeance (The Pact) 4. Lips In The Hills 5. In The Presence Of Another World 6. Madness To The Method 7. Dominance and Submission (yes i consider this a deep cut, very underrated by fans) 8. I Love The Night 9. Perfect Water 10. Feel The Thunder
I've been a BOC fan all my life. Spectres is an incredibly underrated album. Some of the standout tracks are Death Valley Nights, Nosferatu, I Love The Night, The Golden Age of Leather. Great stuff! I think of Mirrors as a transitional album, equidistant in release to their two biggest hits, e.g., two albums after Agents of Fortune and two albums before Fire of Unknown Origin. The keyboards are more prominent on Mirrors, not that I have anything against it. Alan Lanier did fine work. Cultosaurus Erectus, the following album, is just a blast. My uncle used to crank it at parties and jam to it with his band. Some great tracks are Black Blade, Monsters, The Marshall Plan, and Lips In The Hills. I would agree that while Martin Birch's production on both CE and FOUO are on the compressed and dry side, I think what he was going for above all else is clarity and tight production. They are still great albums. I agree that After Dark is a very underrated track. It should have been a big hit.
Saw BOC summer 2018 at the Empire State Plaza in Albany NY and they opened with "Transmaniacon MC". My friends and I were blown away! Too cool. Kudos to Martin on The Stranglers comparison. Both bands had a Doors vibe and I recall Hugh Cornwell citing BOC as a band he liked. They also shared an interest in arcane and cryptic subjects. Both are great bands.
Absolutely love BOC.....however, not loving these super long deep cut dive videos of late. What happened to keeping things concise & to the point? Maybe others are liking it, I just don't have the time or patience I guess......anyway, here's a few picks from this excellent band ....... Tyranny & Mutation -- Baby Ice Dog, Wings Wetted Down Secret Treaties -- Flaming Telepaths Agents Of Fortune -- Morning Final Spectres -- Golden Age Of Leather, I Love The Night Cultosaurus Erectus -- Deadline Fire Of Unknown Origin--- After Dark The Revolution By Night -- Shooting Shark , Shadow Of California
Seems like every time I do a deep dive on a band you come out with one of these on them! As a young fan it's really great to learn about the bands that I have been discovering as I didn't grow up with them. It's a shame Blue Oyster Cult dont get as much mainstream recognition beyond 1 hit. They were a really great band with loads of great rock songs. I've been listening to "Godzilla" on repeat since I first heard it a couple of weeks ago, in terms of less popular songs I really like "Transmaniacon MC", no idea what he's singing about but I really like the riff 😂
Here is The List in chronological order by album release: Workshop of the Telescopes, Mistress of the Salmon Salt (Quicklime Girl), Career of Evil, Sinful Love, Death Valley Nights & Fireworks, You're Not The One (I Was Looking For), Divine Wind, Sole Survivor & Heavy Metal (The Black and Silver), Veins & Shooting Shark, White Flags & Madness to the Method, In the Presence of Another World & Del Rio's Song & I Am the One You Warned Me Of, Hammer Back & Still Burnin', Dance On Stilts &`Stone of Love
I just revisited the 2001 CURSE of the Hidden MIRROR based on two selections from PETE & MARTIN/ I think that album is pretty damn good. Obviously/ we all hear things differently/ but didn’t play it in a while. Played it three times in row just now . 👍💯
Going in order of release. Limit 1 Per album. 1. Screams 2. Teen Archer 3. Harvester of Eyes 4. Searchin for Celine 5. The Vigil 6. Lips in the Hills 7. After Dark 8. Veins 9. Shadow Warrior 10. In the Presence of Another World 11. Harvest Moon 12. Here Comes the Feeling Again
My all time favourite band. Was lucky enough to see them live for the 1st time a few summers ago in London Ontario. A tough list to be sure, so many great options. Here's 5 that I really dig. She's as Beautiful as a Foot, Shadow of California, I Am the Storm, Revenge of Vera Gemini, After Dark.
I'm up for more Blue Oyster Cult deep cut dives as they are one of my favorite bands ever but also would be cool to see deep cut dives for Deep Purple, Hawkwind, Rush, Alice Cooper, Mercyful Fate, Enslaved, Opeth and similar bands.
Great show Pete! You can never have enough features on Blue Oyster Cult, and your viewing figures will support that claim. I would certainly love to hear a second deep cut dive on their music. The Buck songs tend to be my favourites, as I consider him to be one of the most underrated singers, songwriters and guitarists in the whole of rock music. My selections therefore feature him most prominently: Teen Archer - Tyranny And Mutation I Love The Night - Spectres * The Vigil - Mirrors Dragon Lady - The Revolution By Night Here Comes That Feeling - Curse Of The Hidden Mirror * Spectres is my favourite album of theirs and I much prefer it to the more heavily praised Agents Of Fortune. In the event that I Love The Night doesn’t count as a deep cut, I would also choose Nosferatu from that great album.
One of the greatest bands of all time
I’m very grateful to Pete as I had somehow overlooked this band. I only knew Don’t Fear the Reaper and nothing else. I got into them after he picked Secret Treaties as his album of 1974. I knew an album that came top in that year had to be killer. And it was. I now own several of their albums and working my way through their catalogue. All thanks to Pete.
@@jimmycampbell78 that is cool ya not everyone know everything about every band i used to be a DJ for a number of years there is loads of great music to be found out there
I think i turned pete on to a Canadian band goddo if u like BOC you should check them out
There is no guarantees in life but i think you will like goddo
Here here
Thee greatest
Without a doubt!!!
"Deadline" from Cultosaurus. So haunting. And "Don't turn your back" from Fire of Unknown Origin.
Deadline, Joan Crawford, I Love The Night
"Deadline" is definitely one of the best ever BÖC songs.
I see those two songs as counterparts, almost like fraternal twins.
I saw BOC in a large club in Dallas last year (holds 2500-3000), and all around I could see 14-16 year-old kids singing every lyric to songs that never touched the radio. As time marches on, it's becoming clear who stands the test.
My favorite is “She’s as beautiful as a foot” it has trippy psychedelic Riffs
That guitar break sounds like the Doors
I saw them last year and they played that track. I never expected that.
Forgot about that one!
Bow dow dow dow dowwww!
...She heard someone say...the other day...
1.Morning Final-Agents of Fortune
2.The Great Sun Jester-Mirrors
3.Fireworks-Spectres
4.I am the Storm- Mirrors
5.Dial M for Murder- Bonus track on Spectres
Blue Oyster Cult is a very underrated band in general. However, even they have underrated songs for their standarts! Here's an underrated song from every album!
Blue Oyster Cult - She's As Beautiful As A Foot
Tyranny And Mutation - Baby Ice Dog
Secret Treaties - Subhuman
Agents Of Fortune - Tenderloin
Spectres - Golden Age Of Leather
Mirrors - Moon Crazy
Cultosaurus Erectus - Deadline
Fire Of Unknown Origin - After Dark
The Revolution By Night - Feel The Thunder
Club Ninja - Madness To The Method
Heaven Forbid - Hammer back
Curse Of The Hidden Mirror - Pocket
Phenomenal list!
Great list - Tenderloin - One of BOC's hidden gems!
After dark is the only one I recognize but I love lonely teardrops and fireworks
@@garretwoeller7669 I love Fireworks as well. i would especially recommend Golden Age Of Leather, Moon Crazy and Deadline, which are somewhere in my top favourites by them!
"underrated" is by far the most overrated word on youtube.
This is kind of tough, but being a diehard BOC fan for many years, this would be some of my favorite deep cuts: Flaming Telepaths, Stairway To The Stars, Nosferatu, I love The Night, Monsters, Lips In The Hills See You In Black.
Monsters! Great track off the wonderful Cultosaurus LP.
Hey man I like it, great list. I might add "Veins," or "In the Presence of Another World".
Best band ever. You never get tired of their songs. Live album "On your feet..." is a favorite, not technically but spiritual, it has life🤩👍💖 Nice to see mr Popoff, I got them two books😉
That’s something I’ve been saying for a long, long time; I never seem to get tired of their songs.
This is SO cool! Martin is just the right guy for this one.
My 10 deep cut BOC pics:
1) Death Valley Nights - Spectres (maybe Albert's best song)
2) Deadline - Cultosaurus Erectus
3) Redeemed - Blue Oyster Cult (their most psychedelic song on a BOC record)
4) The Siege and Investiture of Baron von Frankenstein's
Castle at Weisseria - Imaginos (How's that for a long song title?)
5) Monsters - Cultosaurus Erectus
6) Moon Crazy - Mirrors
7) Shadow of California - Revolution By Night
8) When The War Comes - Club Ninja (very underrated Joe Bouchard track)
9) Morning Final - Agents of Fortune
10) Teen Archer - Tyranny and Mutation
I must say I've seen BOC around 60+ times and they are quite the deep cut
band in a live setting. They always pull out some deep ones for every show.
60+ times... Amazing. I thought I had done well seeing then 5 times.. Death Valley Nights , amazing song.

Wow, I’ve never heard it either.
Great list dude
But here are my deep cuts:
1. The Entire Imaginos album
2. White Flags (Club Ninja)
3. Flaming Telepaths (Secret Treaties)
4. Harvester of Eyes (Secret Treaties)
5. Out of the Darkness (Curse of the Hidden Mirror)
6. Harvest Moon (Heaven Forbid)
Not sure "Subhuman" fits the bill, but that could be there too, as a slightly more obscure track.
1. Wings Wetted Down
2. After Dark
3. Monsters
4. I am the Storm
5. Spy in the House of the Night
6. The Old Gods Return
7. Hammer Back
8. Dragon Lady
9. Vengeance (The Pact)
10. Tenderloin
This list was near impossible for me to do. And this was just my favorite deep cuts. Favorite band of all time!
"Madness to the Method" is a magnificent song. Thank you, Pete!♥
Definitive Lips in the Hills and Veteran of the Psychic Wars.
1. Lips in hills 2. After dark 3. Deadline 4. Sole survivor 5. Divine wind 6. Vengeance the pact 7. Hungry boys 8. Dont turn your back
My Blue Öyster Cult Deep Cut Dive:
#5. Sally
#4. Live for Me
#3. Out of the Darkness
#2. Redeemed
#1. Don't Turn Your Back
Also sad news about something completely different. Composer Ennio Morricone has passed away at the age of 91. If you don't know who that is, since he himself has kept a low profile as a public person, search up the name. May he rest in piece!
Vera Gemini
I've been on a couple of BÖC marathons in the past few weeks, so it's relatively fresh in my head, and let me just say that the sheer amount of interesting deep cuts in their catalogue is nothing short of staggering! Here are my picks:
1. This song is packed!)
2. Tenderloin (Another song that is crammed with musical content, this time a considerably shorter one... This is a good showcase of BÖC's skill to make songs that are sort of awkward and elegant at the same time... Among the highlighted parts is Buck's funky jazz riffs around the 2-minute mark and the harmonies right at the end.)
3. Searchin' for Celine (More diversity with a song that is kind of boogie but goes into total jazz mode for the final lead break... Allen Lanier was a consistently good keyboardist and yet I'd say this is one of his top moments.)
4. Spy in the House of the Night (Club Ninja is a mini-well for deep cuts, pun intended for Perfect Water... However, on this last marathon it's one of the songs that I overlooked earlier but found myself suddenly addicted to... To me it's actually more reminiscent of maybe Cultosaurus or Fire.)
5. Fallen Angel (Speaking of Cultosaurus, not only is this song quite fun and catchy, but it's actually a deep cut of the rarest kind... That's because it features Joe Bouchard on vocals, but contrary to something like Nosferatu, he has a sort of Graham Bonnet type wail here!)
6. Workshop of the Telescopes (One of my faves from the debut; gorgeous songwriting and some of those The Doors vibes.)
7. 7 Screaming Diz-Busters (If you're looking for some of BÖC best displays of early heavy metal, this one says it all... Buck absolutely shreds licks that might even be ahead of their time.)
8. Vengeance/The Pact (Expanding on the heavy metal part, this one actually has shades of nwobhm in it. Truly one of the hidden gems from Fire of Unknown Origin.)
9. Veins (An almost hilarious contrast of innocent sounding AOR-type musicality with potentially psychopathic and homicidal lyrics, almost like Fight Club meets The Tell-Tale Heart.)
Agreed. Joe and Albert are both great songwriters, but Buck had the
knack for writing the hits. The Bouchards were crucial to the band's
early success.
Yes. The Bouchards were critical to the eclectic sound and every album and every song sounding so different. Why I love BOC so much!
Hi Pete and Martin. Here are my Deep Cuts.
1. Subhuman - Secret Treaties (Not Deep Enough?)
2. Searchin' for Celine - Spectres
3. I am the Storm - Mirrors
4. Monsters - Cultasaurus Erectus
5. Veteran of Psychic Wars - Fire of Unknown Origin
Blue ÖysterCult,
huge band!
•See You in Black
•Flaming telepaths
•Harvest Moon
•ME 262
•The Great Sun Jester
•Divine Wind
•Lips in the Hills
•Perfect Water
•I Am the One You Warned Me Of
•The Siege and Investiture of Baron von Frankenstein's Castle at Weisseria
The Great Sun Jesters a really cool song . I haven't heard it in a while , I have on album . Good list
@@DSpeir-pi6tmAgree! "The Great Sun Jester" is just perfect, a hidden gem in the impressive BÖC discography.
Not all of those are "deep" cuts but they are all phenomenal songs!
So many gems in the treasure chest to choose from, but I think I’ll go with
two back-to-back pairs from Spectres - the Side One desolate desert duo of
of “Golden Age of Leather” followed by “Death Valley Nights” and the Side Two
creatures of the night mating of “I Love the Night” and “Nosferatu”. The melodies,
the lyrics, and the haunting harmonizing here - BOC made some magic music.
I could compile a list of BÖC tracks that would go on for days, because they're one of my favorite bands. But here's the list of 10 deep cuts I threw together in (eager) anticipation of this video. Surprisingly, I only matched one from Martin's list, and none from Pete's. In chronological order:
Baby Ice Dog (Tyranny and Mutation)
Wings Wetted Down (Tyranny and Mutation)
The Revenge of Vera Gemini (Agents of Fortune)
Goin' Through the Motions (Spectres)
I Love the Night (Spectres)
You're Not the One I Was Looking For (Mirrors)
Unknown Tongue (Cultosaurus Erectus)
Vengeance (The Pact) (Fire of Unknown Origin)
Veins (The Revolution By Night)
Shadow of California (The Revolution By Night)
Another great episode! My five...
1. I Am the One You Warned Me of
2. Damaged
3. Vengeance(the Pact)
4. Nosferatu
5. Veins
If I can't explain their greatness to a child, I can't understand it myself, so here goes:
Super poppy: Still Burnin'; modern metal: Hammer Back; country: Real World; tear jerker: Live For Me; wedding dance: Light Years of Love; sad break up: In Thee; glad breakup: Revenge of Vera Gemini; pompous rock: Magna of Illusion; coming out: Celestial the Queen; staying in: Out of the Darkness; don't do drugs: Feel the Thunder; do do drugs: I Love The Night; don't sell drugs: Then Came The Last Days of May; quit killing people: Make Rock Not War; start killing people: Divine Wind; kick some ass: Beat 'Em Up; go ahead and be yourself, but look out: Madness to the Method; feel the romance, Girlie: White Flags; run from that guy, Girlie: See You In Black; it all works out: You're Not The One (I Was Looking For); if Green Day wanted to rekindle a relationship: Here Comes That Feeling; don't get blackout drunk: Veins; you're drunk, I bet you won't write a song right now and put it on an album: Let Go; those bikers can be a rough lot: Transmaniacon MC; sometimes, bikers can just crack you up: The Golden Age of Leather; talk is cheap: Eye of the Hurricane; you can't take advantage, Girlie: Sinful Love; honey bees have it tough: Wings Wetted Down; some may blame the plague on vampires: Nosferatu; perhaps a lyric that inspired the name of the coming album: Shadow of California; other genius worth hearing: everything else.
I'm sure the band could weigh in on these thoughts, but they've got better things to do. Great job breaking things down and restricting yourselves like that--I know it's difficult!
Wow! That was pretty thorough!
Raise your glass of beer on high!!
@@rebeccassweetmusic4632 Patti is just an incredible person and talent all around. I would love to meet her.
nosferatu is such a great song!!!
The two times I've seen them live (2018 & 2022) they did Golden Age of Leather. Seems to be a favorite setlist item going way back.
OMG! Deadline. My favorite song on this album!
Divine Wind, one of the best blues metal songs.
Yes, same with "Heart Like a Wheel" from "Black Sabbath"
Another great matching of Martin and Pete for an entertaining and informative show. Thanks, gentlemen.
Great recommendations on both the video and the comments - with BÖC's amazing entire catalog spanning many decades - you could put together a dozen different lists of great deep cuts.
My ten-
1. Frankenstein
2. Don't Turn Your Back
3. Deadline
4. Divine Wind
5. She's As Beautiful As A Foot
6. Vera Gemini
7.See You In Black
8. Real World
9.X ray Eyes
10.Unknown Tongue.
That's a truly kick ass list. I would concur.
There are so many great tracks its hard to pick!!
Five best, "deep cuts" (I chose songs I never saw a video of) because that's what the video is about:
Hot Rails to Hell
Golden Age of Leather
I Love the Night
The Vigil
X-ray Eyes
The new album is great. Tainted Blood is amazing song, Box in my Head, That Was Me, great stuff.
The thing about BOC is that since they only had a couple of hits, almost their entire catalog is deep cuts...
The Vigil-Stairway To The Stars-7 Screaming Diz Busters-Flaming Telepaths-Heavy Metal: The Black And Silver-Veteran Of The Psychic Wars-Joan Crawford
"Deadline", from Cultasaurus: love the foreboding vibe on this otherwise very poppy song song.
"Les Invisibles", from Imaginos: when that riff hits in the chorus is so good, but then it comes back when it seems like its going back to the verse. Holy crap
"Monsters", from Cultasaurus: love the messed up sci-fi lyrics. Super heavy as well. Almost NWOBHM
"Shadow Warrior", from Club Ninja: Starts out doomy, and then ventures into all out SPEED METAL. Gotta love it.
"Celestial the Queen", from Spectres: my favorite BOC album. I just love how dreamy this song sounds. I can listen to it over and over.
Honorable mention: Blue Oyster Cult (the subhuman), from Imaginos
Well thought out and truth!!
Blue Öyster Cult is one of my favorite bands of all time. It’s gonna be really difficult, since I’d say most of their songs are deep cuts, but I’ll try to limit myself on this one.
1. “Transmaniacon MC” off the debut
2. “Teen Archer” off Tyranny and Mutation
3. “The Revenge of Vera Gemini” off Agents of Fortune
4. “Unknown Tongue” off Cultösaurus Erectus
5. “After Dark” off Fire of Unknown Origin
EDIT: Know what, I really have to at least mention the rest of the songs I love from BÖC that don’t ever get enough love. So here’s the rest of my full list:
• I’m on the Lamb but I Ain’t No Sheep
• Then Came the Last Days of May
• Stairway to the Stars
• Before the Kiss, A Redcap
• Screams
• She’s as Beautiful as a Foot
• Workshop of Telescopes
• Hot Rails to Hell
• Mistress of the Salmon Salt (Quicklime Girl)
• Black Blade
• Monsters
• Deadline
• Lips in the Hills
• Fire of Unknown Origin
• Sole Survivor
• Vengeance (The Pact)
• Joan Crawford (I know it charted but it doesn’t get enough praise)
No "Nosferatu"?
B.O.C one of my all-time favorite bands! Blue Oyster Cult's new studio album, “The Symbol Remains”, due for release this October! It's been 19 years since their last studio release! Sadly we are down to only 2 original members Buck Dharma & Eric Bloom. However, bassist Danny Miranda, who joined in 1995 when replacing original bassist Joe Bouchard, is also still with the band. Here are my 10 Deep Cuts . . .
Wings Wetted Down - Tyranny and Mutation
Career of Evil - Secret Treaties
Morning Final - Agents of Fortune
True Confessions - Agents of Fortune
I Love the Night - Spectres
Nosferatu - Spectres
The Great Sun Jester - Mirrors
The Marshall Plan - Cultosaurus Erectus
Vengeance (The Pact) - Fire of Unknown Origin
Sole Survivor - Fire of Unknown Origin
Before I actually watch this,
I Love the Night is one of my favorite BOC songs. It totally has great atmosphere!
I love this Pete Pardo. Bring on more Blue Öyster Cult. I can’t wait for new album in a few months.
My deep cuts are (in chronological order)
Morning Final - a weird song about a subway murder. The riff is *almost* discoish, it's very catchy, but the bridge is almost proggy. It's a really interesting song
Nosferatu - Great choice by Pete and has always been a favourite.
Unknown Tongue has long been one of my favorites. Glad to see it on the list! Cheers!
I also recommend Martin's BOC books. And I agree with the required reading.
Here are a few of my deep cuts: Teen Archer, Divine Wind, Soul Survivor, Cagey Cretins, Dragon Lady, The Siege and Investiture Of Baron Von Frankenstein's Castle at Weisseria and Screams
Love the interaction between you two. Great insight into the band. Hope to see more.
Thanks, Mr. Popoff!
My 5 Deep Cuts(I know I lean heavily towards Buck) are:
Stone of Love from The Curse of the Hidden Mirror
Real World from Heaven Forbid
Mistress of the Salmon Salt(Quicklime Girl) from Tyranny and Mutation
A Spy in the House of the Night from Club Ninja
Deadline from Cultosaurus Erectus
@Martin Popoff Thanks for putting the book together, I'm a huge fan of the band. I just don't get tired of them and I love finding pictures from back in the day, especially of Eric and Buck "chainsawing" their guitars. Deadline is just a perfect scary story set to music, absolutely haunting in its composition and Buck's vocal delivery.
@@Trilaan That's the great thing about BOC ... you can listen to them for decades & never get tired of them, so many layers & variations to their music/catalogue ... Unique band.
Black Blade is my favorite song of there's of all time. It's probably one of the best progressive metal songs of all time too.
True Deep Cuts for each album (These are what I consider awesome but cuts you don't hear much about)
Blue Oyster Cult - Screams, Workshop of the telescopes
Tyranny and Mutation - Teen Archer
Secret Treaties - Flaming Telepaths
Agents of Fortune - This Ain't the Summer of Love, Revenge of Vera Gemini, Tattoo Vampire, Morning Final
Spectres - Death Valley Nights, Goin' through the Motions, I Love the Night, Nosferatu
Mirrors - The Great Sun Jester, I am the Storm, Lonely Teardrops (The Vigil isn't considered a deep cut IMO)
Cultosaurus Erectus - Divine Wind, Deadline, Unknown Tongue
Fire of Unknown Origin - Heavy Metal: The Black and Silver, Vengeance (The Pact), After Dark, Don't Turn Your Back
Revolution By Night - Veins, Shadow of California, Light Years of Love
Club Ninja - (The whole second side! LOL) Beat Em' Up, Shadow Warrior, Madness to The Method
Imaginos - Les Invisibles, The Siege and Investiture of Baron von Frankenstein's Castle at Weisseria
Heaven Forbid - Hammer Back, Cold Gray Light of Dawn, Still Burnin
Curse of the Hidden Mirror - Pocket,
I think a good deep cut is Harvester of Eyes from Secret Treaties. There is some crunchy guitar work in there...love it.
BOC is the only band with a killer guitar solo on EVERY SONG!!!! Your idea to do a show on the best BOC guitar solos is ingenious. I'm working on my top 100 right now! (-:

Mostly Buck sung songs it seems.
To keep my post brief:
Every song from their first 4 studio albums.
Thank you guys for your Deep Cut Dive: Blue Oyster Cult review.🎤🎸🎵🥁
Forever my most loved BÖC song: See you in black
Huge fan. Caught 'em 26 times so far. Here are my top five deep cut selections:
Blue Oyster Cult- Redeemed
Club Ninja- Perfect Water
Tyranny & Mutation- O.D.'d On Life Itself
Heaven Forbid- Real World
Cultosaurus Erectus- Hungry Boys
Nice picks guys. My picks are:
1 Cagey Cretins
2 Sinful Love
3 Monsters
4 Damaged
5 Good to be Hungry
Love anything and everything BOC that you produce on this channel!!!
Don't Turn your Back...In my Top 5 favourites..
The deepest cuts of all are, of course, on my UA-cam channel.
Anybody who loves Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Rush, should love Blue Oyster Cult.
Thanks Pete and Martin. So many deep cuts for BOC. Top 3 band for me since the late 70's. Here goes:
Flaming Telepaths
Morning Final
Golden Age of Leather
You're Not the One (I Was Looking For)
Eyes on Fire
Here's five from the weeds that I like a lot!
"Golden Age of Leather"
"Les Invisibles"
"A Spy in the House of the Night" (Yes, I know it's from "Club Ninja" and I don't care. I still like it!)
"Celestial the Queen"
"Before the Kiss, a Redcap"
and, I vote yes for a 2nd (or 3rd) BOC "Deep Cut Dive".
Club Ninja is underrated.
B.O.C. rocks especially stairway to the stars. Heavy Bass riff. Love it! Turn up the volume all the way
Great band,my favourite has to be the Imaginos album. The seige and investiture of Baron Von Frankenstein's castle at Weisseria is a 'monster' of a track,as well as having the longest title in the world!
I love BOC! I was looking forward to this deep-dive!
My list:
1)The Siege And Investiture of Baron Von Frankenstein's Castle At Weisseria
2)The Old Gods Return
3)Deadline
4)Let Go
5)Celestial The Queen
6)Sole Survivor
7)Blue Oyster Cult
9)Make Rock Not War
10)Showtime
1. See You In Black
2. Fireworks
3. Vengeance (The Pact)
4. Lips In The Hills
5. In The Presence Of Another World
6. Madness To The Method
7. Dominance and Submission (yes i consider this a deep cut, very underrated by fans)
8. I Love The Night
9. Perfect Water
1- Monsters
2- Vengeance (The Pact)
3- Golden Age Of Leather
4- Teen Archer
5- Harvester of Eyes
Great list. Monsters is one of the coolest rock tunes ever composed.
Tyranny & Mutation -- Baby Ice Dog, Wings Wetted Down
Secret Treaties -- Flaming Telepaths
Agents Of Fortune -- Morning Final
Spectres -- Golden Age Of Leather, I Love The Night
Cultosaurus Erectus -- Deadline
Fire Of Unknown Origin--- After Dark
The Revolution By Night -- Shooting Shark , Shadow Of California
Seems like every time I do a deep dive on a band you come out with one of these on them! As a young fan it's really great to learn about the bands that I have been discovering as I didn't grow up with them. It's a shame Blue Oyster Cult dont get as much mainstream recognition beyond 1 hit. They were a really great band with loads of great rock songs. I've been listening to "Godzilla" on repeat since I first heard it a couple of weeks ago, in terms of less popular songs I really like "Transmaniacon MC", no idea what he's singing about but I really like the riff 😂
Its about a Biker gang
Here is The List in chronological order by album release:
Workshop of the Telescopes, Mistress of the Salmon Salt (Quicklime Girl), Career of Evil, Sinful Love, Death Valley Nights & Fireworks, You're Not The One (I Was Looking For), Divine Wind, Sole Survivor & Heavy Metal (The Black and Silver), Veins & Shooting Shark, White Flags & Madness to the Method, In the Presence of Another World & Del Rio's Song & I Am the One You Warned Me Of, Hammer Back & Still Burnin', Dance On Stilts &`Stone of Love
My No.1 band of all time, best listened to by starting at their first album and listening through to their last.
1. Screams
2. Teen Archer
3. Harvester of Eyes
4. Searchin for Celine
5. The Vigil
6. Lips in the Hills
7. After Dark
8. Veins
9. Shadow Warrior
10. In the Presence of Another World
11. Harvest Moon
12. Here Comes the Feeling Again
My BOC deep cut, currently, is Deadline off of Cultasauras Erectus.
Hey Pete! My fav deep cut is.. “ Spy in theHouse of the Night” from Club Ninja. I have some really great guitar work from the amazing Buck Dharma.
My selections therefore feature him most prominently:
Teen Archer - Tyranny And Mutation
I Love The Night - Spectres *
The Vigil - Mirrors
Dragon Lady - The Revolution By Night
Here Comes That Feeling - Curse Of The Hidden Mirror
* Spectres is my favourite album of theirs and I much prefer it to the more heavily praised Agents Of Fortune. In the event that I Love The Night doesn’t count as a deep cut, I would also choose Nosferatu from that great album.
Wings Wetted Down, Shooting Shark, Flaming Telepaths, Then Came the Last Days of May . . . .
