I think at this point you should invest in a machine polisher haha. I'd also recommend trying some very fine wet sanding paper. 1500-3000 grit wet sanding paper can really remove those deep scratches. And rubbing compound will remove the scratches made by the sand paper. I was actually going to be making a video demoing this on my car haha

What a nostalgia trip. I absolutely adored my iBook G4. It was the last Mac I've ever owned, except for a MBP I returned after one day last year. It was a really fun machine, lots of time spent playing Diablo 2
I went though a lot of powerbook G3s and iBook G3/G4s in the late aughts, buying them 'broken' on eBay and fixing them up to sell again. Many only required very basic maintenance such as resetting the PRAM and such. I didn't make much on each but it was basically a way to incrementally upgrade to a MacBook core2 duo, and then an iMac G5 by 2010. Since then I've had at least one MBP/MBA and one iMac 27 on my desk every year. I still have one of the 1.42g iBooks shown here, as well as it's little 12" brother. Also a powerbook Pismo. All still boot.
Give it a try. I restored a 2007 thinkpad t61 that my friend had sitting in the closet for ages. It's now a neat 2 core with little light overclocking it is cable of some office work.
I used to use those g4 iBooks in high school for my journalism class. They were amazing and made productivity quick and convenient! I’m happy you fixed this one up!
I still have my 12" iBook G4 of that vintage. They're really slow by today's standards, but back then, they weren't too bad. The Intel notebooks ran rings around them, though. The PowerPC just didn't make enough strides in speed to be worth keeping. They didn't support them very long after the switch, and I'm afraid that's what they're going to do again with the switch to Apple Silicon. I'm hopeful that we get 3-5 years, but they won't keep Rosetta 2 for very long. The iBook cleaned up well, though! Great video!
Its slow because it doesn’t have L3 cache. Thats why the G4 towers, G5 towers (which also lack cache but fast data bus and ram/sata) and even the 1ghz Titanium PowerBook can still brute force through tasks.
It would be nice to see this ibook G4 running linux. I heard that void has excellent support for ppc and is much easier to install compared to other alternatives like gentoo.
I actually bought the G3 that has only bin used 10 hours, it was from a school project to teach kids how to code, but the school never actually used them, just the setup, the battery is actually in brand new condition and it's already 18 years old absolutely amazing to see such a old Laptop in brand new condition
I definitely remember using these throughout elementary years. Bring back so many memories. Back when Apple still offered decent selection of products.
My uncle bought one of these brand new back in the day, I remember when I was kid I used to be obsessed with using it whenever I went to the US to visit him 🤩
I remember the 12 inch 2005 iBook from school. I remember it being used up to 2015. The batteries were the original ones so you had to keep it plugged in. It went from 100% to 0% in LITERALLY 2 minutes. That’s not an exaggeration.
I've been fortunate to buy a couple lots of these and G3 iBooks that were retired from school districts. Ironically, as I stumbled across this video I had one of this exact model sitting on a desk installing OS 10.5 in preparation to sell on eBay. Also, the iBook G4 was my first personal use Apple product, so these are a nostalgia trip for me.
You got the best version of ibook. There are several possible upgrades, such as replacing the display with the display from an IBM thinkpad IPS, using an SSD (it's a bit challenging, since the ibook is ide), but I think the main focus is to keep it working for several more years, is the cooling system. All Apple notebooks have always had a cooling system that is a joke, simply ridiculous and inefficient. The Ibook is especially complicated, because its motherboard was designed so that the components are facing upwards, giving little space to work. Years ago I removed the DVD drive from mine, and started developing a super thin liquid cooling system that occupies the DVD bay, but I haven't finished it yet.
I remember my brother had that iBook and it was our family's first Mac. Then we soon got an iMag G5 which was amazing and I loved it. Finally I was able to scrounge up enough money from Christmas and birthday, using my Aunt's Education discount to buy one of the first Intel Core Duo plastic white MacBooks.
My 1st mac was a slightly older version of this model (late 2002 14" iBook G3). Great college memories - back when itunes was the gold standard for compiling your mp3 & imported cd libraries
Brasso works great for these old plastic apple products. Works great on the 4th gen iPod. But do open the window, it smells like a nose bleed. I'll never understand how something smells like a nose bleed, but brasso does.
This was the first Mac I owned. I needed a laptop so I went to my local pc shop. Found one of these used, so I said what the heck, was hooked on Apple after this. I maxed out the ram and purchased a new battery.

It worked perfectly otherwise mind you and the keyboard is new or was new before the screen broke. I recently bought one of these for 30 quid or so (about US$40), in its original box. Pristine, and I have never seen a second-hand product packaged so well. The battery is shot and like yours it can't cope with 2020's Internet, but other than that is great. Nice to know you can still get RAM and batteries for them, too, although for obvious reasons the battery isn't exactly important right now.
Meguiars Plast-X works great for polishing this type of material. I’m sure there are fancier plastic polishes out there, but the Meguiars is relatively cheap and goes a long way.
You might not wish to leave that in tropical heat (in case of more mould) but UV light should kill off any remaining mould. It is good to leave camera lenses not in a bag but in the light.

I have one of these that experiences a problem with freezing until you press firmly by the bottom left of the top and then it starts working again for a while. I managed to squeeze the highest version of MacOSX I could get (I think it is Snow Leopard) onto it using a burned ISO image for it, but the wifi is so ridiculously slow I can't believe that this is normal. Other than the locking up problem resolved by pressing on that spot and the extremely slow wifi, my unit is in amazing condition.

Just scored a decent looking 2008 15" Macbook Pro for cheap. Wish me luck. It doesn't look like it needs a lot of repairs and I'm planning to use it as a typewriter.
I'm very lucky to buy one of the same models on ebay for 60 dollars which only had like 24 cycles on its battery. It's basically brand new. It can handle most classic macos game I throw at it with an easy RAM upgrade.
Can you do a full overhaul of a 13” MacBook Pro model late 2013 or so? Like changing the battery, fan, new paste and probably get the one that has a flawless body? That will be so nice. Thanks and great video as always by the way
I had to pause the video when i saw the a) Eucalyptus oil, b) Metho, c) Sydney Solvents 5L Isopropyl Alcohol, and d) cut n polish.... i have the exact same items. Twinning ?? Well maybe everyone's got that. I'm in Australia too, so its possible.

Reccomendation: Gumption (Can be picked up at woolworths) and a wet cloth/paper towel is perfect for cleaning up these older polycarbonate laptops.
it would be very nice when u say something about the noise (fan). This is the only question i have for all of your cool laptops :)
Can you do a full overhaul of a 13” MacBook Pro model late 2013 or so? Like changing the battery, fan, new paste and probably get the one that has a flawless body? That will be so nice. Thanks and great video as always by the way

Download Tenfivetube to play youtube videos, webkit for internet browsing which can handle youtube as well. If you're running leopard you can install a Sierra theme called Leopard Rebirth. An SSD would tie all this together nicely.
10:35 So funny that Windows XP, who came out about 4-5 years before Tiger, still has supported browsers, and this doesn't.
