Everyone who was a teen in 2005 dreamed about this PowerBook, before they were even called MacBooks, we believe we could never afford one, we did get them as adults in the 2010’s as MacBooks of course, obviously better, but something about the 2005 PowerBook, I remember I bought the “Pc magazine” that included a whole chapter dedicated to it, I was in love, I was fascinated at the way the DVD player was designed, now it’s 2020 and all i use are iPads and iPad Pro, not even the macboook anymore, it’s crazy how times change and how some things were once amazing, become nothing just a few years later

As an artist and graphic designer, I prefer using a mac, but ipads are nice. I had a few in the past but never really got into the lack of multitasking. They look nice and work well, but i need to have a lot of things going at once, and even though the Ipad is technically very capable, Apple refuse to support multi operational apps/

It’s not about the MacBook at all, it’s about the touchscreen & the keyboard, the weight, the OS, I loved my MacBook but let’s be real, laptops are outdated, unless you have a big job like programming, architect, etc, but even if you’re a graphic designer you don’t need a MacBook just with the iPad, I know it’s easier to edit on the MacBook but honestly why do I need a MacBook just to edit ? Yes it can get difficult on iPad but you still can find a way to get it done, & it turns out better !! Let’s leave the REAL HEAVY work for macbooks and engineers, architects, etc, not editing, lol

@@ReginaTrans_ i actually like iPads for the Apple Pencil cos that’s the best feedback and most realistic way to draw in my opinion. It’s simple things, I just love having multiple tabs and music, videos and other things like that. iPad has the power but is purposefully stunted to convince you to purchase the latest model. I don’t feel comfortable taking my hefty not even ssd drive machine in a fragile moving bag. So iPads are useful. I just don’t see them beyond an entertainment media capacity

That reminds me of how my original MacBook started struggling to load 480p videos in 2009, then even 360p was too much for it. I think that was the final days of Flash though maybe? Good thing they're so openable. Those CCFLs can be replaced with a strip of LEDs and the hard drive replaced with an mSATA SSD in an enclosure, which if you're considering repairing or replacing the battery life, would give you a not insignificant boost to energy efficiency. And then there's the mother of all mods, an MPC7448 conversion... though honestly just replacing the thermal paste would probably do it some good.

I bought the original 17” PowerBook G4 and used it at least 4-8 hours a day, for 8 years.
I bloody loved that £3,000 laptop - more than I’d previously paid for any car. The world advancing faster than the capability of the old PPC architecture, was a cruel thing to experience.
Speaking of wear ‘n tear; I had some interesting things happen. The first & most annoying thing was the tiny rubber feet falling off - fixed it by gluing some felt material pads, designed to attach to furniture with hard feet, when using them on non-carpeted floors. The scariest thing was that I came back from a toilet trip and as I entered my office, a small flame popped out of the strain-relief portion of the power connector - quite concerning! The last & weirdest issue was that with the almost constant use, coupled with the tremendous heat the laptop generated, my right hand wrist actually started wearing through the aluminium chassis, through to the CD slot!

If you install macports, you can then install MPV. then from the command line you just type mpv followed by the youtube video link (the full url in the address bar, not the shortened one) and it works. By default it pulls the best quality so it may be choppy, but there are scripts that allow you to control the video quality. I use it on my old imac regularly.

I have a 2006 and 2008 Macbook Pro 15 that I’ve found from a dumpster, and wow the design did not change much from 2008. Even the internals are a weird mess of orange tape

There may be a way to watch UA-cam videos on that laptop. You could install either macports or homebrew & then install mpv along with youtube-dl. Then inside a terminal open the UA-cam video with mpv >> mpv youtubevideourl.com. Haven't used a powerbook mac in like forever, but that did work at one point in time....

Why do you use Eucalyptus oil? Doesn't it leave a residue? Did you use it on the screen as well?

I remember visiting my rich uncle who had a pool, which is kind rare in England, unless you're loaded and huge house, I went into his office and I remember no knowing computers like that existed until then

I still have my 15" PowerBook I bought new back in 2005. Did the SSD upgrade and 2GB or RAM. I've been wanting to re-paste it but have been reluctant to try it. Like you I had the same thoughts about the fragility of the components with the age of the device. I have a 15" 2008 pre-unibody MBP and a 2012 13" MBP and I did re-paste both of them. Seeing your video though is making me reconsider the PB. It probably won't change much as the performance goes but I like to tinker. Since you upgraded to Leopard try TenFiveTube for watching UA-cam. It works well.
