This new generation of artist don't know nothing about old school music but I was told by my aunt who had known Phyllis Hyman for years even before Fame and Phyllis Hyman had went through some real bad depression and was real pain . I hate she had took her own life I wish someone in her family or friends could gave her help and better life yes she would been alive but life goes on May God rest her soul
T Dixon/ Absolutely correct, society had such a negative status on needing help that people fight mentally alone. The stigma causes people's jobs, housing, their children. Especially in minority communities. There were many stars, Donny Hathaway, another great singer we lost in the same way. Your comment brings attention to the issue. Thank you.
She was actually vocal about being in therapy for years. She had a therapist for almost a decade and went to rehab multiple times before her passing. Currently, reading her biography Strength of A Woman. It really gives insight on the literal fight of mental illness. People seek help but they (we) simply grow tired of the ongoing battle.

When you are going through a depression never keep in silence always seek God for help which that is only person that can do it " BUT " can't say everyone don't have same believes as I do. But anyways speak out to people who you trust and know that they will not going to judge you like family members, close friends, or therapist . And lastly never judge people young or old based on what you heard or think you know until you started go through what Phyllis Hyman or other people currently going through or went through its best to keep to yourself .

That "LEAVE ME ALONE" at the end was powerful!! She meant that wholeheartedly. Ms. Hyman was tired of living in confusion. People should be mindful of the hurt, pain, and agony they put people through when playing with someone's heart. This is beyond sad. The video was sad, the 3 ladies in black👀... Too much, where were the people that truly loved and cared for her??? 😢💔😟💔
@@AngelHoll-pr8fzI honored her on the anniversary of her passing a few weeks ago, too. You can listen to part of her sad biography on my channel. Vid is titled Phyllis Hyman Legacy. She was phenomenal.
Her phrasing alone puts her into the elite tier, add to that her passionate jazz infused vocal stylings and you have star with few rivals. Phyliss Hyman was a legend in life and now she is sadly gone from this world, her music remains as poignant and emotion laden as it ever was. The very definition of a Queen.
My children know all of Phyllis's songs. one thing I do is play music from the 20's to the 2023's for my children. To expose them to all music. Music is a leavening agent and inspiration for children. It was for me, when I was listening to jazz by Ella, Sara, Dave Brubeck,, Johnny Mathis, when I was growing up. Music was my escape and I learned all the words and notes
Yes Vesta has so much to give even after her weight loss, she was about to make a comeback with her latest album and then tragic struck, such a huge loss to another beauty
My late wife introduced me to these 2 powerful women and many more Awesome vocalists! I am a romantic and love hurts; but, makes you stronger! If, you have a strong Will To Live and make the best of the time you have! "Rejoice " from The Emotion's!
I cried when the news came across the TV about her. I loved her so. Just phenomenally beautiful. Her unnecessary struggle because of the industry. Instead of focusing on her talent they focusing so much on appearance. Hell Luther was no six pack but he had the voice. This woman was beautiful with a magnificent voice. Where she would be today if only she'd lived. Just gone too soon.❤❤❤❤
I wonder, too. Would things have been better for PH? Would she have had her own TV show(s), podcast(s), etc.? The internet would've extended her songs into countless more places. Thoughts?
After 26 years I'm still broken hearted I was 9 years old when she died I was young but I still understood death and suicide Phyllis you ain't got to hurt anymore baby. You're free from this confusion in this world you're finally free baby.
my sister was driving listening to this back in '97 on the quiet storm radio and 2 hrs later i get a call that she was killed by a drunk driver for you younger folks this is when car phones was the shit, but i was like this can not be real but in reality it was and i'm still living in confusion til this day.
One of her most heartbreaking songs. She could stand up against any of the top female vocalists today or earlier. The sad issue is that all her music was about heart break. I first saw her sing with Norman Connors at Nixons Farm in Maryland. The last time was a Hampton University's Home Coming. Years late, she committed suicide. The crazy thing is that no one sounds right, singing her songs.
My husband it's going through the same thing depression is real it's hard that will keep the faith it's hard people understand they're my sometime be scared music sucio a long haul I've never give up I love my husband to the Grave understand her the Darkness is real depression nobody understand music soothes my soul as well ask me keep me calm but having a bad day God is good keepsake a safe thank you Melissa
Even in her thicker days she still could of got it. I mean she was scared she was going to loose her beauty which is part of the reason she took herself out the game I mean she was gorgeous in her early days and she was still fine B4 she passed and probably would still be fine now if she was still here.
IKR.. it’s a shame that she felt unwanted because men didn’t approach or ask her out because of her height and large frame. She was so sad because of that. I think eventually the right guy who most likely either would’ve been taller than her or didn’t look at it care about her height would’ve came along.
Phyllis Hyman's music has been my solace during both my brightest and toughest moments. Her voice has this incredible power to wrap around you and make you feel understood. Forever grateful for the emotions she poured into her songs. Rest well, Queen 🎵🕊️. #PhyllisHymanForever
to all those hurting.. hang in there.. tomorrow will come, only if you're here.. plus whatever you feel now, tho important, will wane in 10 years.. trust.. i've been through it... just hang on sis and bro!
Such an underrated artist gone way too soon. I too suffer from major depression, I can definitely relate. Depression is a disease that no one wants discuss. I often have thought about suicide myself. Playing her music on the road ..sistah,sister, I ask you a question. Several years ago I was told that a lot of her problems begin because of trauma in her childhood. Is that true.. sometimes we as men fall our daughters by not validating, whooing, teaching, loving and put not putting that imprint that gives them structure and soundness within them to avoid these terrible consequences .RIP Soul Queen

And she said that in 1991 now over four decades later it's more truer!!!
Such a beautiful Sister, so talented. The World truly lost an Icon, RIP love.
I saw her perform in Virginia at a concert, she blew the roof off, powerful voice. Love all her music.
The TEAR in her eye shows us that this was a real torment for this beautiful Soul.. I pray that she made it through the NAROW GATE TO LIFE EVERLASTING !!!
She did
Thank you UA-cam for giving us all the Greatest Music and Singing Artists in the world World / l’m almost 80 and Truly Appreciate it a Movies as well.Especially the Classics/ l laugh,I Cry,Sometimes just listen ❤calijean
Agreed and tommorow makes 29 year's since phyllis left us!!! I'll be playing her music all day tommorow!!!
@@AngelHoll-pr8fzI honored her on the anniversary of her passing a few weeks ago, too. You can listen to part of her sad biography on my channel. Vid is titled Phyllis Hyman Legacy. She was phenomenal.
That tear drop was epic! Too bad she couldn't see that trouble don't last always, it does pass. Miss her so much

This sista sang from deep outa her natural. Soul. !!
LOVE YOURSELF FIRST
I miss her
Her phrasing alone puts her into the elite tier, add to that her passionate jazz infused vocal stylings and you have star with few rivals.
She Sang About REAL LIFE ISSUES SHE LIVED IT AND SANG IT A TRUE SHERO RIP
I miss her and Vesta Williams. .. they could really blow , u felt their pain.
Yes Vesta has so much to give even after her weight loss, she was about to make a comeback with her latest album and then tragic struck, such a huge loss to another beauty
@@blackgold63 So true...

My late wife introduced me to these 2 powerful women and many more Awesome vocalists! I am a romantic and love hurts; but, makes you stronger! If, you have a strong Will To Live and make the best of the time you have! "Rejoice " from The Emotion's!
They build me up 2 let me down

❤❤🎉🎉 yass to beautiful to be gone
She was a beautiful woman dealing with a lot of pain from bad relationships. If I could have got to her she would have never have to worry again
Phyllis could sing a phone book. There is not one singer today that is comparable.
What a beautiful song, what a beautiful woman! 👌🤩
So true! Well said 👍
I wonder, too. Would things have been better for PH? Would she have had her own TV show(s), podcast(s), etc.? The internet would've extended her songs into countless more places. Thoughts?
She was CRYING on this song (literally) as in CRYING out for HELP😢😢😢😢
They don't make singer's like this anymore😪💔🎶🎵. Gone. But not forgotten 🌹
After 26 years I'm still broken hearted I was 9 years old when she died I was young but I still understood death and suicide Phyllis you ain't got to hurt anymore baby. You're free from this confusion in this world you're finally free baby.
The tears in her eyes as she sang this song... That was no act. That was real real pain right there.
1st timer ever. already a fan for live
She had a magnificent voice. I wish she could have gotten some help. Rest in life, Phyllis Hyman
my sister was driving listening to this back in '97 on the quiet storm radio and 2 hrs later i get a call that she was killed by a drunk driver for you younger folks this is when car phones was the shit, but i was like this can not be real but in reality it was and i'm still living in confusion til this day.
So sorry for your loss. Hope you are healing.
So sorry for your loss. I lost my niece to a drunk driver. Still at lost as to why🙏🏼
😱😔
Hello Evelyn, hope you're okay?
The beautiful and incomparable vocalist. Phyllis Hyman an epitome of emotional perfection in every song. A legendary artist.
Well stated.
RIP Queen. I still miss you
Phyllis and Luther would have been a power couple together.....
What loss to the music industry. She had an amazing voice. I saw Phyllis and Freddy Jackson in concert in NYC. It was a beautiful concert. 💞💞💕 Yes!!

Hello Clara, hope you're okay?
Even in her thicker days she still could of got it. I mean she was scared she was going to loose her beauty which is part of the reason she took herself out the game I mean she was gorgeous in her early days and she was still fine B4 she passed and probably would still be fine now if she was still here.
IKR.. it’s a shame that she felt unwanted because men didn’t approach or ask her out because of her height and large frame. She was so sad because of that. I think eventually the right guy who most likely either would’ve been taller than her or didn’t look at it care about her height would’ve came along.
Exactly she was a fine woman no matter her size
Rip to miss phyllis tommorow makes it 29 year's since she passed continue to rest with god!!! I was 5!!!
sing it Phyllis Hyman. Living in confusion!

So much pain in her face. 💖💖💖
I'm 67and will always love this masterpiece never seems to change the feelings it gives me
Power ❤❤❤
Such an underrated artist gone way too soon. I too suffer from major depression, I can definitely relate. Depression is a disease that no one wants discuss. I often have thought about suicide myself. Thinking of my child is what has kept me from doing the unthinkable. My child needs me. I love me as well. Thank you momma for teaching me how to pray. Missing you like yesterday.
#babygirl❤️
I just wished i could of seen her in concert I'm sure she gives all concert goers there money's worth every time 😮🎉❤
She gave an amazing concert I saw her years ago at Valley Forge Music Fair Johnny Gill
Miss you aunty reminiscing on our times when I was a kids such an amazing soul I wish I cld talk to you again and go swimming with you🕊😢😇💞 such great time’s🥰🤗
I'm so sorry, she was one of my favorite artists of all time remember many Friday nights and Saturday nights going to clubs in state and out of state.
@@barryshumpert6944 unfortunately that is true she also had addiction issues as well especially fr back in her hey day it was a thing in the 70’s and 80’s and she got caught up in the wave of the madness😢🥺 mental health is real and it get to some of the most amazing people sometimes…. Rest in love aunty🕊 truly missed so many memories and fun times as a kid she spoiled the hell out of me every time she saw me I miss her a lot….
Awww
Phyllis you sure hit home on this one, you knew the pain poor thing ri paradise ❤u thank you
This angel was going through more than anyone can withstand. Her voice was and will always remain. The words speak for anyone going through situations unspeakable. This song defines hurt. The "Leave me alone " part was genuine and heartfelt. Hurt is a silent killer. I feel as many do.
Phyllis will certainly be missed!!!
