It takes someone who truly loves deeply to not just sing a song, but to feel the words and express them in a way that you feel every emotion that they sing. My skin still tingles to this day listening to her songs. And if you love that deeply, it means that you risk being hurt that deeply. I hate that she fought demons that she couldn't win and sought comfort or peace in alcohol and drugs. She was oh so talented, and never really recognized in the music world the way she should have been. Maybe because of how she suffered. Mental health issues weren't dealt with the same in that era as they are now, and there is still so much negative stigma in the black community about mental health. I'm so glad her music has found it's way to streaming platforms. I remember when I first heard "Meet Me On The Moon". I said if I ever get married, it will be the song I walk down the aisle to.
still here 5/2021......WOWW, Phyllis was one of THE MOST BEAUTIFUL...POWERFUL, SULTRY voices during her time (including Angela Bofil) I can still listen to her today like its my first time ...she ALWAYS gently nudges me to feel what shes singing, feeling...not many artist do this for me nowadays I MISS HER immensely
Trivia: I met Phyllis in 1991 and we "connected".....just like that. I can't explain it but she and her staff treated me like royalty from that day on. I met Angela Bofill in 1996 briefly backstage then we and others headed over to a Detroit restaurant afterward. Angela mentioned about Phyllis' death as "truly sad" then mentioned "Clive went out diva shopping and came back with me and Phyllis". Hilarious. Say what you want about Clive Davis but "the man with the golden ears" certainly had them. Then along came Whitney for the golden parachute and, well, the rest is history.

Wow good old day's huh?
I'm a man and I can relate to the pain felt in this song I just wished that she was able to find happiness because I believe that everyone deserves happiness. R.I.P. Ms Phillis Hyman.
I can feel her pain in this song. A reflection of a chapter in her life. Gone way too soon. 😢
They say money and fame only amplifies what you already have going on. 😢
The pain expression on her face is amazing but yet very real. I saw some of her interviews that made me sad. Her struggle to be loved and accepted. Never knew who she was until Unsung. Such a injustice story. Rest In Power, Queen! 😊💅👑💄🎤🎶📽📺
2:34 this part is profound. Life changes instantly.
Her voice was described as a TEARDROP.
It truly was her crying each note
Rip❤️
So rich & beautiful but yet so unhappy … she had plenty of people that loved her … that “depression” is a real demon
🌹RIP Phyllis, you are loved❤️
The heartache I felt when I heard Ms. Hyman took her own life. I'm so sad that she felt so alone and unhappy. Ms.Hyman I pray that your soul is at peace and truly grateful that you are no longer in pain. Your music will live on forever. Thank you for gracing us with your amazing talent.
Michell'le ...it sounds like Phyllis was her inspiration 🌹
Miss Phyllis Hyman was a beautiful person when I met her in the old Penn Station in NY with all her Louis Vuitton luggage she sign autographs but she never gave the slightest thought she was depressed she was a happy person so sad she not here no more maybe this song explains it
From Richmond Va , she was elegantly admired … yet suffered in silence ( rest easy ) ❤️🩹
After all these years of her passage, Phyllis Hyman's music and her stunning beauty stand out. Black is beautiful!
Agreed
.......
I was angry with you....❤❤❤♾️
I know realize that I had toget grown and go through somethings to understand your pain 😢. May GOD have mercy on you.
Thanks for the impeccable catalog ‼️💯👑💎♾️💃💃💃
The Songstress of our generation GEN X.
She has gotten me through the death of my husband by gun violence..your legacy is getting many widows through the terrible grieving process. ❤
She's (Phyllis Hyman) in my all time top five favorite singers. Along with Whitney Houston, Rachellle Farrell, Diana Ross and Angela Winbush.
She was absolutely beautiful!
This song reminds me of my sister I lost in December 2022… she was soooooooo troubled … and i couldn’t see it until she passed …. BE KIND to people because everyone is NOT strong and depression IS REAL… if they tell you BELIEVE THEM😢😢😢😢😢 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Right now I'm just taking it one day at a time because it's mother's day week.and I never knew loneliness. Until. Now
Third comment, omg she had soul😍😍😍 RIP to a true goddess
she passed away? how long?
Angle Johnson back in 1995 she was only 46 I believe and she was going thru depression so she committed suicide...
😘 Love, peace & respect to Phyllis Hyman for sharing her spirit's rich sounds of natures called 🎶 singing 🎶 voice; and her spirit's talent to mimick the art of the artificial made-up words of sign language of communications in ways that some females and males talk, say or speak; while some males and females don't communicate like so, but, can relate to by someway having learnt the made-up art of words of communications. 👉 And while some females and males are fine by living in housing of called their living alone on their own for peace, rest, sleep, privacy; and to be in or go to to not have to be outside in not so pleasant weather, some people appear as not fine living in their own housing of called alone is usually a wronged, cheated and or abused to be alone of some people heal to be fine and or met persons of which can invite over for company.😊
You left us 26 years ago. I can still see the day they announced it on the news. That was a sad day. I wish you could’ve held on and saw what we see.
I still CRY about Phyllis' tragic demise y'all!! This beautiful womans' music DEFINED my high school years!! ❤❤
Phyllis Hyman was stunningly gorgeous with an amazing singing and speaking voice. She is greatly missed.
PHYLLIS HYMAN she Too, was a VICTIM OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY 😮😢
She was a great singer. I loved her music. What a loss.
I listened to this song in different stages of my life and yet still, I hear it and it reminds me that this could be her cry for help then. Not knowing this song helped millions decades later battling depression n break ups. LLPH ❤
This is probably her greatest song she ever sang.
All the signs were there! I mean, the latter stages of her career, all of her songs were super depressing. So sad that she could never overcome. Mental health is so important.
I was so in love with this woman, she said I was way too young for her, yeah I was a kid but I was going to grow up eventually!
Rest in Paradise and I still love you!
I can definitely see some inspiration for Toni Braxton/Braxtons
She lived that song. She sung it with every genuine emotion she had. She brought it to life. R.I.P Queen
Kel she died a long time ago right?
Angel Johnson Yes.
Angel Johnson 1995
I can totally see Jazmine Sullivan playing her in a biopic. She’s the only one that can do Phyllis Hyman justice and has the vocals to back it up !
Phyllis had such a phenomenal talent, I'm happy that she shared her gift in her short life. I can't imagine never having heard her ever..ever..ever ... RIP. ❤️ old friend welcome back into my life again 🎶❤️ living all alone 💔
Ms. Hyman was so beautiful! She deserves all the flowers. 🌹 She passed when I was just 7, but all I see is Jazmine Sullivan 😻🔥
She sung this song from her soul. I feel it
2024 ❤ I had such a crush on this elegant woman as a kid she just glamorize me, such a lady 😍
😢❤😢😢😢❤❤She was a beautiful Soul
I wish a lot of artists would sing as beautiful as this.
Right
Toni Redd does.
Beautiful women have a hard time finding and sustaining Love, and men have a hard time cultivating, and sustaining beautiful women. It's a gift and a curse. "Do not awaken nor stir up Love until it pleases"! 🙏🏽
She sings from the heart and probably experience. I miss her.
Can someone please explain to me why this queen was sooo damn bad when she blessed a microphone with her presence! God all these years later, I love this woman! 😍💯💪🏾
😊this is how you detox from a broken heart 💔 you chill out and go to your secret spot and listen to some old school music
Who hear in 2024?
Meeeee
Greetings from Germany 🙋♂

@@stefanmarchione6757me too it touches you different than today music. 😎👍
I am
She was truly singing that song from the heart. 💔
still here 5/2021......WOWW, Phyllis was one of THE MOST BEAUTIFUL...POWERFUL, SULTRY voices during her time (including Angela Bofil) I can still listen to her today like its my first time
...she ALWAYS gently nudges me to feel what shes singing, feeling...not many artist do this for me nowadays
I MISS HER immensely
People slept on her and Angela Bofill. They had some wonderful voices with a lot of emotion.
@@robk9685 ...woww, thank u so much for sharing this time capsule with us...and can u believe that there isa generation coming up that hasnt a clue about the (3) artist you and I just mentioned?? Im trying not to loose hope that there isnt anyone else out here who has ((Mastered his/her craft)) in singing.....its verrrry quiet out here, but until then, I have my short playlist
@@coquijean Embrace your "short playlist". I truly believe this isn't going to happen again....in my lifetime anyway.
