    Great as always! Just a quick question about the peg between the top base and the headstone - I noticed that you didn't try to replace it. Is the setting compound just so good you don't need to worry about future movement, or is it more about the cost-benefit analysis of the effort to remove the broken pieces? Your insights would be appreciated. Thanks!!

      The peg is needed and should be used again when leveling the monument. Sometimes the peg, metal rebar will break off on the inside of the stone and people take shortcuts and don't remove the peg The old peg should be drilled out. The new peg installed and the monument pieces bound together. But they should never be bound with epoxy.

    You never cease to amaze! You make such difficult work look easy. I'm struck every time by your humble, selfless spirit that truly wants only to respect and honor these souls through restoration of their monuments and a telling of their stories so they may be known yet again.
    Thanks again. And Happy Valentine's Day, Wade❣️

    I got turned on to you by the Jimmy Diresta collab video and I've enjoyed your videos ever since. I dig your attention to detail and I know from experience that a good technician sweats the details.
    Keep 'em coming.

    This one caught my eye, as my Great-Great Grandfather was killed by a train in 1946. He was a railroad worker and was working with 3 other guys on the tracks and they were all struck by a train taking a bunch of Jehovah Witnesses to a convention. The train didn't even stop. I appreciate the work that you do restoring these monuments.

    Most of the flowers or shrubs that are placed in the old cemeteries are very hardy and low maintenance. So, you usually don't have to be too careful when digging in them. In this case, about all that needs to be done is fill in the hole from the monument with some overburden dirt. Those lilies will quickly fill in the blank area.

    My grandparents are buried in a cemetery that only allows planted flowers. No artificial flowers or other non living decorations, except grave blankets/pillows for the holidays.

    Great work but one question! Don’t the cemetery workers notice when something has been damaged or falls over?

    Nice job using the correct setting compound. A lot of people use epoxy and epoxy should never be used.

    The side of the headstone appears to have some writing on it. Was this some kind of salvaged headstone?

    Thank you for, as always, wonderful content. I love to honor the people beneath the headstones by searching for their family trees, learning what I can, and pondering their lives. Struggling with this one. You seemed to have thoroughly researched, as you do so often. Would you be willing to point me in the right direction? On findagrave, showing the gravesite in Glendale Cemetery in Des Moines, two marriage documents are attached. One shows the 3/7/1905 Rodgers marriage, recorded as the first for both. Wife's surname different from father's, suggesting a previous union or an adoption. The second shows Mary marrying a carpenter Louie Brescher in 1914, his first marriage, her second. Would be interesting to know if the $4,500 suit against the RR by his estate was adjudicated as a legal judgement and paid.

      What was the part you were looking for clarification on? And yes it was her second married. If I recall, 4 times in total.

      @@millennialstonecleaner Thanks for responding. My difficulty: couldn't find a good family tree on familysearch for either of them, or enough good sources (Moline, Ill. as residence) to learn more about them. Not asking for the long list of resources, just a starting point.
      Also, from your comments, seems you were able to find a lot of information on the RR accident. Found his death certificate showing he died 16 hours after in the hospital, but that's it so far. I'm going to check local newspapers - anywhere else? Thank you so much. Always an adventure.

    Are you using a wire brush? Please say no!

    • @millennialstonecleaner
      @millennialstonecleaner  7 місяців тому +3

      Wire brushes are always used to clean mating surfaces before rejoining them, that is standard and required for anyone. On surfaces that are visible, no, only normal nylon bristle brushes area used.
