- With dupes best friend, the Sweepy bot, they are able to collect loads of polluted water. Accidentally drop several tons of water on the ground and you suddenly have huge quantities of polluted oxygen. In this episode of Oxygen Not Included I take a look at what it would be like to try and use sweepy bots to pile up polluted water bottles for the purpose of producing oxygen.

Haha I think the moral is there's a reason mods really fill in the gaps of an otherwise solid game, so you don't need to get so convoluted with builds

Seen a system using the same effect, by filling reservoirs and then deconstructing them to get bottles over and over. Then the polluted oxygen is pumped to a different room to be cleaned similar to your design. It started more as a system to produce lots of clay. The builder was amazed by how much oxygen it produced.
I just realized today that you can "grow" sand using deodorizers - clay- ceramic - crushed to sand. Brothgar i dont even know what a sand factory system would look like but it would be funny to see. can you please make one

If that happen we know who to blame LOL
But with this system, how would slime lung get in unless it is contaminated by a puff/morb? Slime lung won't get into the polluted water so it is a very sterile system.

This gave me ideas for checkpoints in my current base. Being able to wipe out all the jobs in an area of the base until they refill the dang rust deoxidiser's storage would be nice.
More than anything, I was excited to see the duplicate checkpoint! :D

17:04 -ish. Can it be that it slows down, because the bottles fill up the tile instantly & is then over-pressurized & can't release more?
So you could get out more pO2 from the same amount of bottles/water if you spread them out over more tiles?
Brothgar just pretty much made an unlimited water storage and bottle transporter with no power required.
Fill liquid tank + deconstruct = probably the easiest way to get 5t bottles
Really great system you got there! I'd suggest putting multiple bottle emptier (like 5 or so in a line) that way dupes can move more than 200kg of PWater per trip.
Actually, you're cooling down the Polluted Oxygen, because the gas pumps compress the gas into a cooler state... it's like a less-effective Wheeze Wort and runs on power, last I remember.
So you'll eventually get cooler oxygen out of purifying it, because Deodorizers don't emit heat.
What? No. Gas pumps have no cooling effect and will add heat to the system.
This looks like a great addition to teh mid/late game Dupe Skill Gym.
Do gasses heat up or cool off if you condense or expand them respectively?
Got a off topic question. Is there a way to automate atmo suit docks to only let dupes use fully oxygen pumped suits without restricting the docks with time sensors?

if you used a normal iron door instead of airflow tiles at the side of the polluted water, and you set it so duplicants can or cant cross it, you could also use it so dupes can go inside when you want and put some of that polluted water in another place
How do you get the dupe to drop the bottle on the door. They keep putting there on the nearest floor. even with all the auto closing doors you have.
If you arrange it so the polluted water is at the bottom of a bead pump you can suck all that polluted oxygen straight up and away from it without pumps, you'll still be limited to about 2kg/s off gas per stack however.
The bead pump can cause overpressure in a PO2 storage area, through some automation you can open/close door access into deoderization/algae/puft rooms at a controlled rate as the base requires.

I think your best route is to pipe the water into a reservoir then deconstruct the reservoir. Now you have a 5T bottle. rinse/repeat.
For the record , the Duplicant checkpoint didn't work because the tiles underneath it(the mechanised airlocks) were gone. like if you destroy a tile under a building it stops working.

Easiest "bottledropper" is just an emptier sit on vertical airlock that sit on 1 tile up on floor. Dupe need to step on tile to rich emptier, airlock opens emptier diables, bottle falls. No automation, no dupe speed management or limit, 100% effective.
This thumbnail is genius.
An Idea: put the bottle emptier on a door. Set up an auto sweeper on a timed automation that turns on and waits just long enough for the bottle to be moved from the sweepy doc to the bottle emptier then opens the door making the emptier drop the bottle. No dup needed. Might go try that later.
Was wondering about a method to remove the dupe. Just revisiting this lovely game

Could you use this method to cool your base as well? If the polluted oxygen comes off at the temperature of the water, could you insulate the whole system, sweep up the polluted water at -10C or whatever, and get infinite -10C oxygen out of it? Just send it through radiant air ducts and then vent it into space once it's above say 25C?
If you put a small layer of water on the tile that holds the Polluted water bottles they will never over pressure and keep off-gassing at full rates and never over pressure.
I accidentally found that out in one of my bases when I keep getting popped ears and couldn't find out why.
I see an issue with the design, in the polluted water holding chamber above the sweepy bot there is airflow tiles letting polluted oxygen out

You could slso send in clean water to the carbon skimmer and use the polluted water from the carbon skimmer and you have a combined CO2 to Oxygen maker for the bottom of the base.
One year already but here are the 2 things you missed, dup checkpoints are disabled when the door opens, you just need a filter to make the door open a few secs slower. Similar you could just put the emptier on the door, the door opens emptier disabled dup let the pwater fall
I hate to do this to the Duplicant Checkpoint, but you could just replace it with another mechanised airlock to add the needed delay.

Yes it would work the same with gases. Canister filler to emptier.
Does the polluted water ever stop off-gassing? Or after you've done the prerequisite amount of water, it'll create a set amount of oxygen forever?
It will stop if the pressure get high enough around the bottle. (maybe something like 1.8kg) Also the maximum quantity it can give of depends on how much is in the bottle.
What if you use an infinite liquid storage setup but instead of doors, you use airflow tiles? That would skip the entire automation setup and the sweepy requirement making it a zero energy setup (not quite zero you stil have to pump polluted water into the system)
Have you tried out the Minibase mod by Versepelles?
Watching an ONI colony is like having ants in a glass for ASMR... but with multiple environments. And the ants will inevitably kill themselves. Or you kill them in a myriad ways. All for science.
I'm wondering, with such a high O2 generation, can you create a CO2 pit that has a shaft to the surface which uses automation to dump gas when CO2 gets X blocks high or pressure gets to Y KPa?
Maybe that would work. This made me think of compressing it into nothing with doors.

i think you can do all that with just a liquid storage and then deconstruct it when it is full and repeat the process without doing all your setup and it is much less dupes labor

1:1 yes, but the output will slow over time. Energy cost is a tricky one to compare. This is a lot of labor or automation connected to running filtration mediums, so I think at the end of the day that's where the bulk of the time or energy will go for the P water system. Then you have all the pumps and heat systems connected to an electreliser... so yeah.
Isn't the duplicant checkpoint unnecessary? I would think the door closing would be enough to stop them from continuing their job of bringing the water to the emptier as long as it halts them outside of their reach.
Too avoid overpressure have the dirty water sit in a small (very small just a few grams) pool of liquid (something that doesn't off gas) and it should just overpressure the area, then you can use pumps as needed, it works with slime/ polluted dirt although I've never tested it with dirty water, hope this helps run it more efficiently 👍🏻
Also, things lose heat in a vacuum and I'm not sure if klei accounted for IR radiation. Essentially, this would allow a player to run a long long radiative liquid pipe full of hot coolant, ethanol, or water and just let it out into the void.
I think you can simplify schema by filling water reservoir and then deconstruct it. This will create polutted water bottle automatically.
You could even use the duplicant checkpoint to prevent deconstruction until the reservoir is full. While this is a creative use of sweepy, it's also pointlessly complicated (which makes it ideal for ONI, I guess).
Can't you just... you know... build a Liquid Reservoir, fill it up with poluted water, then deconstruct? *Sad Sweepy Noises* XD
What mods are you running? Pliers is Snip, what's the other one to the left of Disinfect?
Could you run a signal off the duplicant sensor to disable the wheel/other job or close it's door, so they run towards it until they're away from the sensor? If that works can you move the wheel near the sweepy dock so they don't even run in the wrong direction? I'm really wanting to come up with a way to use the Counter 12 times with the 2kg limit, can you put a weight plate above a sideways door?

This has become my go to method for O2 until electrolyzers get set up. Mostly because I like to save algae to feed my fish and create ponds and fish tanks all over my base, which is also like 2/3s nature reserves ;)
I always thought polluted water emitting polluted oxygen was kind of broken, I just had no knowdloge to show it
Hey man can you make an experiment for producing tungsten from melting insulation? Its pretty hard thing to do but it would be so helpful for the maps with no tungsten such as oassie without glimmering planet!

Brothgar I know I'm a bit late, but why not use a Pitcher pump to pump the poluted water and then set the Bottle emptier to "autobottle"; this way, the throughput depends on the dupe's carrying capacity *alone* since bottling up the water takes the same amount of time every time (no matter the amount of water that is requested), it would only affect empty-ing bottles, and since were *not* using the Bottle emptier in a "normal" way, this should have a ridiculous top throughput. One additional thing, one doesn't need to reaserch sweep-ies to set this up, which might take a while to get too.

Wouldn't it be possible to have a pipe filled with polluted water, and have a duplicate plumber drain the pipe while on a ladder, so the bottled liquid falls out of reach? It might be faster that way. Also, it'd be difficult but you could chill the P.O. to make it liquid and lose the polluted status, then heat it back up with the oncoming P.O., making a crossflow heat exchanger. Last time I checked P.O. has a higher specific heat capacity than oxygen, so you'd create a small amount of heat in the process.

last update caused a memory leak or something and I haven't been able to play since.. so frustrating, have done everything I can think of and it still crashes my whole computer everytime I try
