    you forgot the war of 1864, a very important loss for Denmark

      To say it was important is quite the understatement, it literally reshaped the politics completely, both internal and external.

    4:40 Frederik IV was actually maybe our most hard-working monarch, and he cared deeply about his subjects. He would travel around the country to set up shop so that peasants could come with their complaints directly to him. People, no matter their class, were also free to approach him in the horse stables and outside the castle

    Fun fact most of the fredriks and christians and even some of our earlier kings. Is laid to rest in roskilde domkirke. A very old church. Those who are buried here are fx. Christian the 4th fredirik the third and queen magrete the first. A very fascinating place. And a must see when you visit denmark.

    We didn't learn that slavery is wrong because of Christianity - the Bible condones slavery.
    Today the vast majority of Danes are Atheists, which has a better moral stand than any religion.

    If the peat bog man is over 2,000 years old, the video is wrong to call him Danish as the Danes didnt come over until the Jutes and Angles (the later omitted from video) had left in the 5th cent.

    • @fastertove
      @fastertove 2 роки тому

      Not that important other than the shape of the country. It was historically a duchy and governed different from rest of Denmark.
      The importance of The Schleswig Wars has likely highly embellished, remember that this is the time of Nationalism and the "Danish Golden Age"(Romanticism).
      The Napoleonic Wars was in comparison much more important to Denmark as a whole.

    As for the thralls...
    While society was relying on yhem in some aspects, they were also a significant psrtnof armies, but with the desire to be so.
    While a slave, if you showed enough bravery and courage to stand infront of a free man, you yourself would be s free man.

    • @drdewott9154
      @drdewott9154 4 роки тому

      Well some of it at least. The southern part os Schleswig decided by a small majority to stay German so there's that. Way back in the day when Schleswig and Holstein were countries under the danish crown (in a similar manner to Greenland and the Faroe Islands today) the border stretched as far as Altona which is now a part of the Metropolis of Hamburg!
