Yes mærsk. Also forgot to mention NOVA NORDISK. B&O. VESTAS DSV and others. We are doing quiet well here in Denmark.

@@mayahogrefe5786 He also talked about Tivoli. And yes. It was a weird way to pronounce it.
At the start it sounded like he was trying to say holy

Doesn't matter how they pronounce it. The majority of danes can't pronounce english words either.
Handball is actually a Danish invention, like American football is American, handball was actually first invented in good old Denmark.
Ken Kobayashi Rasmussen true
kongenafnissebo Dude, you just tried to take away glory from Denmark, by cementing my point, handball is a Danish invention. If someone invents a spoon, every other version of a spoon is still a spoon... if this is not totally logical to you, then honestly I feel sorry for you...
Instead of being a grumpy troll, just acknowledge that you miss read my comment and decided to be a troll before thinking it trough...it’s okay, we forgive you..

If you wanna try what "Hygge" is about, try this.
On a cold night, sit down on the couch with friends or family, turn off the lights and light some candlelights on your coffee table, wrap yourself in a blanket and sip a cup of tea, or whatever you fancy, maybe even have a few snacks nearby to munch on and maybe watch some TV.
It's an amazing feeling.
I dont get it. as a dane i've only seen/heard of people doing that a few times. I think we make it out to be a bigger thing that it actually is
@@isaakring2573 Hygge is not a specific thing, it is whatever you enjoy and relax too. It can be anything, with friends or by yourself. I bet you do "hygge" all the time with your own company. Like watching a series by yourself with some snacks :)
@@niviholm6058 well since it's so general i dont think there is any need to make that term into something special. I dont think that is something we do more than other countries idk

i feel a nationalistic urge as a dane to point out that when the british attacked Copenhagen during the napolionic wars they *WERE* actually retreating from the far supirior danish fleet and only won because we didnt think they could break through so when ONE of their admirals saw a gap and used it to get on land we werent prepared and got massacered XD
Yeah and Lord Nelson commended the Danes saying it was some of the fiercest seamen he ever fought
We had some downs allright
But is that really how it happened? As far as i recall from history the Royal fleet chose to attack before the big navy that Russia had which were frozen until spring/summer time.

PS: we have 1.3 million people in Copenhagen, not 700K. 😉
Depends on how you want to define Copenhagen. If you talk København Kommune and Frederiksberg Kommune then it is around 700K. If you talk greater Copenhagen then yes it is 1.3M.
It is more incorrect he says we have around 5 million people we exceeded that a long time ago. In January we were just over 5.8 million in Denmark and over 5.9 when we include Greenland and the Faroe Islands.
Nice er du dansk???
Copenhagen itself the city dosent have 1.3 million people
i love how hard it is to understand what sam is saying when he tries to say danish words or names.
Ja men også lidt svært😂😂
Nice list Even if I had a bit of trouble understanding some of those pronunciations of our words ;)
Can't believe there wasn't a single point on this list mentioning Aqua or Barbie Girl.
Also, Copenhagen houses THE oldest comic book store in the whole world, "Fantask" which is turning 50 years old next year.
Last year, the place was on the edge of closing it's doors actually but a huge crowdfunding campaign raised almost $90,000 to help them stay afloat.
Denmark was also THE first country to legalize the sale of pornographic content and we were also the first country to legalize gay marriage.
And for many Europeans growing up in the '90s, you might remember a television show where you could call in to play a computer game called Hugo via the buttons on your phone. That character and the whole concept also originated from the Danish company "Silverrocks Studio"
The Unity engine that is used by many developers to create video games these days also have its roots in Denmark.
Also, in Denmark, we like to think that Santa Clause lives on Greenland and not the North Pole.
Santa Clause danish name is "Julemanden" which directly translates to "The Christmas Man"
We also celebrate Christmas on Dec 24th and usually opens up presents after the Christmas dinner.
Most Danes prefer Duck or Pork with rinds while a few prefer ham. As long as the potatoes and gravy are there.
We were one of the first countries to legalize civil union* for gay people in 1997. Gay marriage was only made a mandatory service in all churches in 2012 :)
Wow de er...
I read it all..... And normally here I would say what a waste of time but like as a dane it's nice with some cool fun facts even If I new half of them

Same. I couldn't understand it wasn't done,but finally it's here 😁
16:24 and that one leader was Magrete, king Valdemar's daughter, who were th first female ruler and the one who made the union possible.
This union fell apart when she died, because the next ruler, Christian, killed a bunch of Swedish politicians (or some other kind of important Swedish people, I can't remember 100%), which was why the Swedish decided to stop being part of the union, understandably so.
Queen Margrethe was not officially the ruler, but rather the regent in place of her son, Olaf, since her husband, the king of Norway had died.
Christan II wasn't the next leader, the next leader was Erik af Pommern, (or of Pommerania, if you will), whom she adopted, because Olaf ended up dying. Erik was then followed by King Hans who was _then_ followed by Christian II. The union, as you say, did start to fall apart almost as soon as Margrethe died, though, because the Swedes didn't want to be a part of it. It had then been falling apart until the Stockholm Bloodbath, which Christian II thought would show those Swedes who was boss.
Ftr, No one liked Erik much as a king, though he was wise enough to start the whole taxation of Øresund. He ended his days as a pirate working off of Gotland. Just, uh, that detail never fails to amuse me.

Fun fact about the queen, she is Denmarks first queen to officially "rule" Denmark so they wanted to change her name to Magrethe I (1) instead II (2).
And another fun fact is that Magrethe I was the first unofficial queen to rule Denmark when her husband died and her son was to young to take over the thrown...
@@z.ajensen6286 Margrethe the first is literally soooo cool she just united the north to one union she was the definition of a queen

It should be "27 min of me triggering Danish people"
@Edward Wilson little off track but yes.
The government has ordered every danish mink to be put down and not allowing the farmers to sell the fur. Effectively destroying the industry and putting hundreds - if not thousand out of their jobs from one Day to the next.

I think that Tycho Brahe died of a ruptured bladder. He had been drinking at a function, but was too polite to get up and go for a Jimmy whilst speeches were being given.
Well actually the way he died was never confirmed, but he did die while having dinner with the king of Belgium I believe (not sure it but it was certainly a very important person from that area). And yes the story goes that he died of a ruptured bladder from literally not peeing because he was being too polite to ask. Tycho Brae was also friends with the danish king and was gifted the island of Hvem (which is swedish now), to study the stars. There is so much history about Thycho Brae! If you're from Denmark or sweden or ever visit you should go to Hvem and see the palace garden and the museum about him, really interesting stuff.
@@nonorden7100 - Thanks for that information. Tycho Brahe was an extremely interesting man, of whom too few people today are aware of. He was a genius on a level with Galileo Galilei and Nikolas Copernicus. However, like Doctor John Dee, and Robert Hooke, his name isn't mentioned as much as it should be.
And he did not have a gold noose. Was it not a silver far as I remember (blame Alletiders Jul)
Danish pastries, they're freaking awesome!! Btw... Never hear or seen Jennifer Lawrence on that one. What gives?
Is it me or did you give up on Denmark after fact 94 and just talk about one hippie commune? You could add CAROLINE Wosniacki to you list ;-). Also as actors maybe Mads Mikkelsen and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau would be better to mention. And Danish pastry. Also the fact that the 2 countries who has been at war the most times with each other in the history of the world, is Denmark and Sweden.
@@TheLizzerazu Thanks. Sports has always been my trivia downfall but that was an embarrassing brain fart so I've changed it. Once traveled to Denmark... Some people were nice but most of them were just straight out racists, I felt unwelcome because of my black hair and brown eyes, and whenever I went shopping or just got outside my hotel room, people looked at me as if I was going to do something bad. The weather wasn't something to brag about either, didn't even go to the beach. Not worth visiting at all, if you ain't Caucasian, and if you, like me, doesn't like rain.
The weather is good some time. And with the racist things. If you look like a migrant you will treated differently
