Psychedelics and psilocybin containing mushroom in general are just amazing with so many health benefits. Psilocybin mushrooms actually saved my life from depression and addiction to cigarettes and alcohol. Never had a bad trip.
No doubts shrooms are 100% blessings from nature. Indeed nature's little miracles
I've been looking to try shrooms for depression, just very difficult to get a reliable source here in Australia. Really need!
Yes, I'm very sure of Dr.benshrooms.
I hate that psilocybin gets grouped with drugs like cocaine and heroin. Mushrooms are a remedy, not a vice!

One of the worst outcomes of the drug patent system is that when a drug is under patent, the manufacturer is disincentivized to release it as a tablet (rather than capsule)- because tablets are easier to micro-dose (and also intake through other vectors). While posing a minor illicit/abuse potential, the real threat of easy micro-dosing is to pharmaceutical profits.
Even with some long-half-life generics- if I want to see whether a “sub-therapeutic” 1mg of fluoxetine works for me, I have to have a compounding pharmacy make it.
See!? (I'm referring to a comment I made on another one of your comments lol).

Being a millennial & learning all the various bullshit ways the companies find to screw us (not just systemic failure, but downright systemic evil), is really a trip (pun not intended), huh? Yet we can't do without the corpos either, (say, in the case of ADHD medication or with Sleep Apnea...)

On a related note: When titrating up, I have found it best to do it twice as slow than the manufacturers recommendations. Instead of 3-4 days between increases, I do one week.
Also, I only increase doses on the weekend because if I have a bad reaction, I have time to recover (whereas if I have a bad reaction during the week, I then have to call in sick or in if it happens in the middle of the day, I embarrassingly have to go home sick).
That is a perfect point. I never thought about doing a dose change on the weekend. Thank you so much for the tip. It makes a lot of sense.
Great information. Thanks.
no amount of drugs are gonna help in any form if you don't have friends and human connection established in life. if you were neglected and isolated all your life. no drugs are gonna help. unless it's for distracting. there's no progress or productivity in distraction with drug use. Nothing can fix this but friends and human connections. I would know, obviously.
Yeah not only that but the drugs were actually designed to try to destroy your brain..
Glad you did this. Mushrooms had a an amazing effect in a good way for me mentally with rewiring and self awareness. Microdosinf didnt have the same effect, but I did notice a prolonged effect later after ceasing microdosing, but overall my experience wasn’t always great with microdosing
Andrew Huberman in his podcast cited research studies that showed that the most therapeutically beneficial dose of psilocybin was 20-25mg and most shrooms strains have 10mg per gram of dried shrooms. Apparently a single trip in that dosage has more long term effects than microdosing. I've yet to try but I'm hopeful and microdosing has not been as helpful for depression as I would have liked.
Same I tried microdosing and it didn’t change anything! I had to take higher doses and it made me so much better instead of taking small doses! Also it stops doing anything after a few times
PERFECT timing!!! I have been worried about this for a while.
Thanks Doc!!
I tried microdosing psilocybin for over a year to treat PTSD that I’ve been diagnosed w since 2014 and found almost 0 therapeutic value from trying it, and this was in conjunction with conventional medicine and therapy. The 5 people I was trying it with also reported little to no difference and some reported that they felt even worse after trying it. The answer to these questions can all be answered by behavioral neuroscience imo. Nothing has been more helpful to me than learning that my brain is permanently changed from the trauma that it’s been put through and no amount of medicine ,questionable therapy methods, manipulation or coercion will make these symptoms go away
but were you doing this treatment under your therapist and specialist?
I'm only asking because my brothers best friend is a brain neurologist in Australia who is trialing psychocilibins and ketamin for treatments for PTSD , Autism and ADHD
and they're having very promising results.
like I said though he's a brain neurologist so he's often doing brain scans too something a therapist cannot.
if your on certain medications psychedelic's wont work. trust me i know from experience. give it another go while off all other medications.
Sometimes people need mini or macro doses less often. 💕
@@MonstehDinosawr Yes and I had my brother w a degree in behavioral neuroscience helping, only thing for my case I think is worth mentioning is that I’ve also recently been diagnosed with borderline pd, which I’ve heard can prevent drug/psychedelic assisted treatment methods from working

This was such a good & interesting watch! Very informative. I think I’m a normal metabolizer but getting genetic testing to be sure would be amazing!! I haven’t started meds for bipolar disorder out of fear of terrible side effects. I do my best to manage it naturally but I’ve been thinking more about trying meds as some of my low days can be very debilitating. Thanks Dr. Marks!!
In my practice, I use micro-dosing for patients who have a hard time withdrawing from their medications such as antidepressants and benzos. I never used microdosing for anything other than this but can see how slow metabolizers may prefer this method. Thanks for another great video!
Try the ketogenic diet or at least mention a good diet without gluten and sugar . You shoukd see the patients that stick to it come around and will not need these toxic and harmful drugs. Even if you do keep up prescription drugs for your patients mention the diet. It could save their life.

Hey Dr. Marks, have you ever considered making videos for aspiring psychiatrists. Personally, I would love to hear some advice or opinions from you about heading down the psychiatry path. What are some of the realities of psychiatry? What are some positive and negative experiences that you have made as a psychiatrist or during your journey towards becoming one?
I took 60mg of Prozac for 5 years. I took 80 for a few months but it gave me a headache. So back to 60. I never had any side effects cept the headache. But I didn't feel like I had taken anything at all, I can't explain to you, it literally only made the crazy anger shortfuse I had, turn into a never ending rope of patience. Best thing I ever done was take Prozac. Saved my life.
It was 20 mgs for 3 weeks and up and up and up to 80 but a headache wouldn't go away, so back down to 60 and it really did save my life.
This was very helpful! Thanks again, doctor. I'm going to say it again, I wish you were my therapist.

Thank you Dr for your work and dedication to mental health.
The side effects surely can't be worse than "suicidal thoughts" with traditional anti-depressants... the side effects of alcohol use... and in general the side effect of most big pharma meds.
I totally agree and talk about microdosing in two of my books.
I love microdosing. I have anxiety so am scared to take a macro dose, perhaps one day, but I feel great when microdosing. I find it helps PMDD. I am able to look at things more from the outside as opposed to just reacting. Also I am able to laugh more easily and not take things so personally. Maybe it’s placebo, but I feel better so that’s all that matters. Also because of said anxiety, I take half of a normal microdose. 😂

I attempted to self medicate using THC and psychedelics. It actually ended up triggering a mental health crisis, of a week long series of panic attacks and mania. After speaking with my doctor and psychiatrist, they informed me this is often the case more than not. I believe there are more natural approaches, but self diagnosis and treatment is something I think most don’t fully grasp. It’s seriously dangerous. THC is not a joke. Intense fear and panic lead to suicidal thoughts.
I do not have a good reaction to the "modern" cannabis flower. I too get intense fear and all my optimism goes away, leading to intense panic.
At around 20% THC with near zero CBD, the weed being sold at dispensaries is 5 times stronger than the weed from the 1990s (around 4% THC), which was twice as strong as the 1960s (~2%). I don't think most legislators or people over 40 realize that today's weed isn't the weed that they grew up with.
2+ years ago, I was able to find flower that was 10% THC and 10% CBD. Now I can't find it anywhere and am lucky if I can find vape/tinctures that are 1:1 or the unicorn 1:2 ratio.
@@Nyx773simply put, different people react to cannabis differently. People were panicking when they smoked weed back in the day too. Information about bad reactions are just now more readily available because of social media.
@@TheRomeoValentino True. But my main point is that the quantity of THC is tremendously higher than it used to be, thereby increasing the likelihood of unwanted side effects and/or having a totally different/worse reaction than I did 20+ years ago.
Yeah... I'm starting to pull back on weed...while it does help me relax before bed, I've been getting comments about being much more anxious. I do hear things that no one else hears too...

Yes! This was very helpful Dr. Marks!! Thank you for educating on this important topic, it poses a question I’ve had for a long time now. What if I feel as though I need to manage the psychological symptoms with severe PMDD with psych meds, is it even possible since there is a titration period and this imbalance feels directly related to my hormonal fluctuations aka it will happen each month. In other words, I have always questioned being on medications all month, taking meds every day to treat the 1 week of heavy depression 😅
You're like that cool auntie that I can go to for questions like these.
Auntie Tracey :D
I had trouble with Prozac until I got to 2.5 mg a day... had to break a 10 into 4 pieces, took it sublingually.
It was very effective with no side effects.

Thank you, very informative and something I was considering.
Glad it was helpful!
Very helpful Dr. Marks. I can’t tolerate any antidepressants that I’ve tried because the side effects are so severe, but I can take Diazepam 5-10mg for my anxiety and no side effects. Not sure if a liquid antidepressant and micro dosing would work for me, but I’d be willing to wait out the extra time it would take to be effective. I’ve had side effects to other medications over the years, one of which landed me in the hospital when I was pregnant. I may just be extra sensitive to any type of prescription drug. So, I might be a slow metabolizer, but Diazepam works, 🤷♀️ and I’m so thankful for that. I don’t need it on a daily basis, so I’m definitely not dependent on it.
Unfortunately here in the U.K. you literally can not get diazepam prescribed. It has helped me massively in the past no it's just a flat out no don't ask again or if I'm lucky 5 2mg tablets (but last time I had that my psychiatrist complained to my G.P.!)
@@becky2235 The medical bullying is real.
Ok, i understand some people experience different situations and may "need" certain pharmaceuticals to address them, but i am a true believer in exercising to help myself with depression and anxiety . latest studies show that ssri dont work for most people
Some extended release drugs can be toxic and lethal if taken all at once (e.g crushed or opened)
Not an expert on that, but I could imagine that thinning down liquid medication is also a way to get an exact dose. Depending on the drug there have to be adjustments if it is soluble in water or you have to thin it down with an oil base or alcohol base. It makes dosing easier and gets a preciser measurement with a syringe.
Is that a way it could work, or do I have a wrong idea?
I have experience with the recreational use of LSD and in those quantities it had a good effect on me. It lessens my anxiety long time after use and made me calmer since my brain seemed to be more active instead of reactive in stressful situations. Sadly microdosing is not possible here without going into "certain circles" again that I don't want to have contact with anymore.
@Barbaradapic-hn4ij I don’t think that will work because I live in Europe and out of country shopping is surely much more risky.
This is not advised for the ADHD meds like Vyvanse because of danger of sensitisation, right?
Would be very important to mention this I think.
In the liquid form, at small doses, would it be better to consume sublingually? Hold it under the tongue for 30-60 seconds before swallowing for faster and better absorption? Or is sublingual a subpar route of ingestion?
I’ve found that micro dosing any psychedelic medication felt quite recreational. Recreational in the sense that I feel as though I shouldn’t participate in everyday occurrences (let’s say…heavy machinery lol) and that this instance of what I’m experiencing needs to be counteracted with alcohol.
For context I’m on 70mg (max dose) Vyvanse and physiologically plough through its bioavailability, suggesting I’ve got quite active CYP2D6 activity.
Meaning what I’m experiencing for the most part isn’t a pharmacokinetic subjectivity and is therefore a monoamine incompatibility.

Can you talk about HOW to talk to your doctor about dosing? I am INCREDIBLY sensitive to meds, prescribed or recreational, I guess I am a slow metabolizer. I have had more than one disagreement with my psychiatrist about this very fact. It doesn't matter if it is tylenol for joint pain or stattera for attention, I am SENSITIVE. but I get treated like I am being resistant or oppositional and I feel coerced into taking meds that are too high and titrating too fast. I have to show up sick as a dog to be believed. I live in a small market so getting a second opinion is not an option unless I can afford to drive 4 hours to another market and they are scheduled out 8 months+ (an element of life in Montana people don't get from TV). I work in mental health and I think the prescription medications are what should be illegal for the most part. No matter what they say it's all guesswork.
I have a question years ago I was on ssris they worked really well for a number of years but then every time I would take one I would feel very hyper caffeinated followed by feeling really exhausted and low the next day. Also became incredibly sensitive hypersensitive to ssris where I would take just a tiny bit of one and would feel the same way. Or some kind of autoimmune response. At the time I had been on ssris for 10 years.I always associated with adrenal exhaustion or dysregulation. Could it be that a mood stabilizer would balance this?

Dr. Marks, does a significant amount of weight loss impact medication metabolization? I used to be a high metabolizer, but I lost almost 95 pounds, and medications impact my body differently after my weight loss. Thank you.
Yes, absolutely metabolism changes with significant body weight changes.
@aprnstudent I'm actually not sure because the kind of metabolism I'm talking about is liver metabolism controlled by the CYP enzymes in the liver. Genetic mutation change how they metabolize drugs. I'm not sure if weight loss changes their function.
Congrats on the weight loss. Weight does impact how much of a drug is effective which is why children are dosed differently.
Thank you for getting back to me. After losing 95 pounds over 12 months, I had to decrease the dosage of two medications I had been taking for 10 years. Genetic mutation makes more sense since I am now a slow metabolizer. Thank you again. @@DrTraceyMarks

Breaking the tablet in pieces or taking a few of the mini pills in a capsule was the only way I could take zoloft or effexor. I tried taking the smallest dose, and it made my so sick I couldn't continue so I wasn't going to get any benefits. Taking 1 or 2 of those mini pills inside the effexor made it manageable and even though it took longer, I was eventually able to take the full dose and get the benefits. it probably won't be covered by insurance, but if you can/want to pay out of pocket then that's definitely an option i imagine
@@agkdjsdjkd It will be covered, but will be at a (much) higher "non-preferred" rate. e.g. If you pay by percentage: Instead of 10% copay for preferred generic, it will be 20-50%. If you pay by a flat rate, expect that to be at least doubled too.
@@Nyx773 i was told it might not be covered at all when i suggested merely to take the 5mg chewable tablets for kids for lamictal instead of the lowest 25mg for adults bc "there's no evidence to support it's necessity". how do you know for certain they will cover it (genuine question)?
@@agkdjsdjkd Good point, I don't know for certain for a child/micro-dose (but I made my comment assuming the adult smallest dose). I view a recreational psychedelic dose as an overdose. Tripping is its side-effects. Therapeutic, yes, beneficial, yes, non-toxic, yes, still an overdose. Microdosing mushies is the most beneficial to me , it’s nearly always helpful and I need to take less breaks . However microdosing acid is very touchy and should be used sparingly, no more than twice a week to be honest. I find it’s harder to measure as well

I tried 150 mg psylocibin for a month with my psychiatrist approval, it didn't make any effect. Also 250 mg. I will try macrodosis
I recommend listening to Andrew Huberman's podcast on the topic. Apparently 20-25mg psilocybin is the most therapeutically beneficial and effective. There is roughly 10mg of psilocybin per 1gram of dried shrooms but online for the strain I have told me that a trip dose would be 1.7grams so that is what I plan to do.
I have liquid prozac. I get terrible side effects and I plan on starting really low and increasing it super slowly IF I muster up the courage to even start, as I've had awful experiences in the past with medications, especially sertraline. I'll start with 2.5mg for a week. Has anyone done this with prozac?
My main concern is tachycardia as that's what sertraline did to me.
I am depressed (I don't believe I *have* depression though) and I have ADHD. I have *serious* problems with anti-depressants, and pretty much anything that works in a similar fashion (apparently there's an ADHD medication that creates the same nightmare experience for me), but psychiatric doctors rarely believe me, and still pressure me into taking drugs that I have years of horrible, dangerous experiences with.
Am I the only person who has this problem?
I'm guessing these are mostly reuptake inhibitor drugs, and all of them cause me intense despair, helplessness, and rage. I want to do horrible things to myself to stop the overwhelming, intense, and emotionally crushing feelings.
Why do my doctors risk this, even after I tell them these types of drugs will break me, and make me more likely to unalive myself?
Why do they seem incredulous?
Am I the only person who is absolutely destroyed by these drugs?
Am I an anomaly?
Am I wrong?
Am I imagining this?
Have I created this in my head?
Why would a doctor deliberately put me through that kind of hell?
Sorry to hear that. But the rage and intense overwhelmed feeling might be because you might be bipolar. ADHD meds and anti-depressants, when not controlled, can push one into a hypomanic state. One symptom of hypomania is extreme irritability, leading to extra sensitivity, then eventually overwhelmed.
I suggest that if you can, change your psychiatrist. They should be taking how you respond to the meds into account so you can switch meds until you find the mix that works
Same here I can feel you + having serious mental problems but no medication helps is so debilitating.
I'm the same. I'm really sorry you're in the middle of this now! I only found a good psychiatrist who listened to me just last year, and now, as a 44yo is the first time I am on a medication that works out for me.
Do you have the opportunity to get your CYP enzymes assessed?
It may be relevant for you, my psychiatrist suspects it is for me, and that has finally clicked.
Best of luck!

ADHD and depression are common comorbidities. I am pretty sure that treatment resistant depression is more common with ADHD as well.

I micro dose on magnesium since I worked out I'm having adverse effects and no improvement. I still have severe anxiety, brain fog, moodswing like you wouldnt believe and chest pains from it.....imaging myself micro dosing psychedelics 😵💫😳😱 HELL NO!!!
What ??? Why would you think MICRO dosing MAGNESIUM would help
@tulip811 because naturopath said I'm deficient in magnesium but it made me very unwell so they said take micro doses, like just a couple drops in water every second day but it still made me very ill, all treatments do, including acupuncture and chiropractic. My resistance is powerful to the point it's killing me. All good tho, I'm ok with that now.
If your magnesium comes as liquid drops, then either there's preservative, which might be causing the bad reaction. Or without preservative, then the water would get contaminated, and then it would make you really sick.
I take 4.0 g Epsom salts daily, I'd recommend starting at 0.5 g, and increasing until you start to notice a laxative effect, then reduce by 0.5 g.
Fruit juice with pineapple really covers up the taste. Since starting, I found I have better pain control, and fewer migraines. My depression is better than it was before starting Epsom salts to increase my Magnesium.
@@davidestabrook5367 you're totaly off with that solution in regards to magnesium. It's any form of magnesium, even foods high in magnesium does it.
@@iamthatiam363 I know that a lot of people have issues with high sulphur containing foods, or medications with sulphur molecules in their structures.
I haven't hear of that happening with magnesium before, but it sounds like that's an issue with you. It really sucks to have health problems, and I'm sorry it's been bothering you.
Still, I'm curious about what form your microdosed magnesium comes in. As there's various magnesium salts and formulations. Do you have the product name and manufacturer?
I'm asking because I do compounding. Making capsules, nasal spray, but the most complicated one, is compounding solutions for IV use. As sterile solutions have to used within 4 hours of opening. And the open container needs to be protected from the dust in air, as that contains bacteria, virus, mould spores.
acid > shrooms more in control less emotional and less seriousness than mushrooms

Either way around, isn't psilocybin microdosing a clinical trial instead of an experiment? which means there's higher likability of things going wrong, and i assume a person needs to be lifetime evaluated by psychiatrists to be given when a person is non adherent to major depression treatment with SSRI where he/she be at risk to him/her self.
Ok but people with Bipolar or even worse schizophrenia can have their symptoms intensified with microdosing. I have seen it myself. Why are you not mentioning the side effects?
And young people are more prone to develop HPPD because of psychedelics even if they microdose
@Philpsychedelic You are probably damaged by it.

Should an individual with a history of psychotic illness try to microdose acid?
No. But if they do, it should be done under medical supervision.
@@Nyx773 thanks for the response. Guess I won't be eating acid then, oh well. Appreciated.
Having a history of psychotic illness is one of the only instances in which I would not recommend using any amount of hallucinogens, stimulants or even cannabis. These substances can trigger psychotic episodes in individuals who are predisposed. Microdosing without the approval/guidance of an MD is like rolling the dice. I wouldn’t try it.
@@truthinlogic1512 More like Russian roulette than dice rolling.
@@Nyx773 Let's play devils advocate for a moment, Let's say - hypothetically - that I have schizoaffective disorder, would eating acid really be that bad? Genuine curiosity here.
Thc is meant for those who can handle it same with sycodelics there not meant for everyone
Nice jacksfilms meme😂
This is like asking a butcher how to perform opened heart surgery
Plus SSRI's contain copious flouride levels, highly attracted to the pineal gland system causing calcification of this important mechanism and that's not even touching the vast ammount of 'rewiring' occurring in the brains neural network ? Evil stuff.Prolonged fasting is the way imho, probably in tandem with psylosibin micro-dosage for those BDNF and stem-cell activations ?
Haha

Yeah you really cant microdose LSD, so go with shrooms.

I think that Prozac or any other medication for depression. I was on 250 mg with nothing but effects ! Not good ones ! It was horrible. I had seizures for years ! I have been on so meds that never worked and it changed my life in such a horrible way I would recommend never taking them to anyone. They are full of fluoride as filler which is horrible for you and has been linked to low iq with babies in women who are pregnant . It’s all horrible for you. You may not know this to people who think they need meds like if your bi polar or Schizophrenia that changing your diet is the very first thing you need to do. Unfortunately stop eating anything sugar , processed and made with gluten maybe even dairy. If you can try this for yourself any amount of time I’m positive you will feel much better and some people it takes care of all symptoms. Please try the ketogenic type diet for at least a month and see how it affects you only instead of negative effects from medication you wil only have positive effects. You can’t cheat though. You gotta stick it out. One slip up will set you back. But fruit is ok and if you put heavy cream on it it is just as good as ice cream. Then after you get the sugar first then processed food altogether then dairy for some but gluten and sugar we can’t eat. It’s toxic to most folks with symptoms like depression and Schizophrenia. It’s hard but we’ll worth it
Your advice is dangerous to some people. It can be very dangerous for some people to go off of their meds. You can try a keto diet while still taking medicine. Then try slowly lowering your medication under a doctor's care.
