Those last eight minutes or so of the solo mission was one of the highest displays of skill I've ever seen in this game. That you could last so long against indomitable odds is a true testament to just how good you are at this game, choco. I always look forward to your Darktide videos just to see how much more there is for me to learn.
I have a lot of time in this game, but chocoB is on another level. There are a lot of nuanced decisions and tactics in this video that some people may not pick up on. I need to study this to become better. Class is in session!
In case anyone here is wondering, the talent "Attention Seeker" causes all normal shooters and scab shotgunners to instantly swap to melee on ranged block, regardless of distance. Dreg shotgunners will instantly start to close distance (but shoot on the way towards you). Gunner elites are unaffected, but you can separate shotgunners and normal shooters from them this way. It is key to this build's success in solo.
Ogryn is the most fun I've had in gaming for a long time. There's been multiple times where all I can do is laugh as I backhand enemies and chuck rocks and see them go flying.
Ok that's really something to behold, especially making it to the end of a map fighting against constant enemy spawns, dogs, netter's and two bosses. You can really learn the thought process behind many decisions, sometimes better then tutorials.
Dodge sliding in every direction really looks like the key to going from normal damnations to the maelstrom or true solos. Some of these spots look truly impossible to get out of if you had to use stamina all the time
I'm surprised to see you running it without bleed stacks on heavy melee attacks, it's such a great perk with the slab shield, especially if you have the skullcrusher blessing.
I LOVE your gameplay and skill. Pushing the sniper off the catwalk and pushing the gunner into the barrel gave me a chuckle. I HATE the heavy moveset for the Maul+shield. The side swipe does TINY damage and its clunky as heck. I wish it were more like the power maul, where lights and heavies do basically the same damage, but the heavies do more stagger (Raise the light damage to 250). ALSO, my BIGGEST pet peeve with the shield. It doesn't block bullets passively while you are holding it and blocking bullets costs CRAZY stamina. Meanwhile a Bulwark could sit in front of 50 gunners and never get staggered, it only takes 2 heavy gunners a couple seconds to blast through your stamina. You give up SO MUCH DAMAGE in order to get good defense, but it burns stamina way too fast.
it's funny, but at 28:23, if you slow it down to .25x, through the port hole on your shield you can see it run by exactly as you start charging you heavy 2.
After many hours of playing a carbon copy of this build on Auric Maelstrom, there are two points I want to make about the build that chocoB posted. Firstly, "Unstoppable" (10% increased toughness replenishment from kills) is multiplicative, not additive and, thusly, is useless on paper (10% of 5% is 0.5%). In practice, it actually does not seem to work at all due to it not rounding up to 6% (tested in psykanium today with creature spawner). Sorry ChocoB, but that talent point was a waste. Secondly, "Reloaded and Ready" (12% ranged damage for 5s after reload) does not apply to the explosion on the rumbler. In fact, it does not even apply to the impact UNLESS "Adhesive Charge" is procced, meaning that it ONLY applies to direct hits against enemy Ogryns and Monstrosities. The only breakpoint that this affects is 1-shotting Reapers. HOWEVER, you can still 1-shot reapers without this talent *if you swap to melee before the explosion happens, thereby applying your "skullcrusher" and "thunderstrike" blessings to the explosion, which is enough to 1-shot the Reaper. It is worth noting that swapping to melee before the explosion happens is useful in many situations, as this applies 4 stacks of your powerful melee blessings in a large AoE*. The only tangible benefit of taking this perk is slightly higher Monstrosity DPS. If you are doing solo runs, not having to interrupt your reload (by switching to melee) after shooting a reaper could maybe be clutch, I dunno. Only worth the talent point if you are doing the "weaker monstrosities" maelstrom modifier. "So what do I take instead?" you ask. +15 toughness and 10% DR if you do not have 90% toughness regeneration speed. If you do, then you can probably take +25 toughness and "lynchpin" instead to capitalize on that. An additional note I would like to make is about the curios. The 5% heath and 5% toughness perks should be replaced by two 20% gunner resistance perks. For reference, I just tested Ogryn with 20% natural toughness DR and 60% Gunner Resistance against precisely 3 shots from a scab gunner in psykanium and took only 12 toughness damage. Compare that to the whopping 45 toughness damage taken from the same 3 shots by a Zealot with no natural DR or gunner resistance perks. In conclusion, ~20-25 health and 5-7 toughness is a drop in the bucket compared to being able to heavily mitigate harassment from gunners, especially during those few moments when you are taking shots without any bleeding enemies in proximity to grant you DR. There are definitely a few moments in this video where chocoB could have avoided health damage if he was rolling gunner resistance.
I've been curious for a while what key binds are you using? I'm particularly interested in your dodge and crouch for sliding as you always seem to pull this off effortlessly. I find that I don't always manage to slide dodge backwards etc and instead end up crouching in place. I keep practicing it, but I can't hit those slides consistently.
Was looking at getting Darktide sometime but I think I'll probably need to retrofit my computer to meet the requirements, would you mind sharing what kind of specs you're running? Also keep up the good content btw! Been watching for a while now
Surprisingly low end systems can run the game! I regularly play on Damnation and Auric Maelstrom missions, and I run very low end stuff, such as an Intel i5 Core and I believe a 1650 RTX. I'm terrible with names so I may edit this comment to correct anything that is wrong, buy I can assure you the game can run fine even with low specs! I don't even run the game on the lowest settings and its usually perfectly fine! I'd say my biggest issue is when theres lots of fire all around it makes me start having frame issues, but aside from that almost no issues! Hope this helps!
@@nikolachiara9285 Oh really? Thanks this helps a ton actually, my computer has been able to handle Vermintide 2 pretty fine for the last 3 years but I was a bit worried about it not being able to keep up to date with Darktide, I'll keep this in mind!
I gotta ask, why the rumbler over the Kickback? I just cannot seem to find a good use out of the rumbler in damnation and auric as there are times when you just need certain elites dead and the rumbler just seems to under perform for that. Kickback meanwhile has a good spread for killing crowds and can pierce through them to the elites to OHKO.
is there a good recommendation for slide/crouch button? I'm a shift = dodge user in vermintide 2 so the addition of sprint button is really messing with me in darktide
Is this modded? I see virtually no random hounds or trappers: by that I mean when the game spawns them out of thin air immediately behind your back or at the exact moment you use indomitable... In fact, the game does not even warn you: no sound cues, they just appear and immediately grab you.
...the patch didn't change the fact that you can still cancel the ogryn charge by walking backwards, right? I saw you keep charging into nothing multiple times throughout the video...
i noticed when he does that, it's to make some extra distance between him and melee enemies, either to reload/shoot ranged weapon or not get hit (having to block and expend stamina) as soon as he turns around
after newest patch i am dying like a bitch on Damnation difficulty, before this patch was ultra easy for me to play and runing map after map, now my team is losing game after game, enemys shoting to me even if i am 1m near to them, this game have same looking boring maps, stupid plastel farming system and unfun endgame XDDD trash shark thanks, ohhh and there is more skins for real money than skins you can get from playing XD
Sounds like you just suck at the game I guess. I hate using the term, but sounds like someone got tilted by a skill issue, goodbye and you won't be missed!
Are you block chaining for heavy ones or weapon swapping? I have t tried to learn it yet but I'm curious what's faster? Out of curiosity...why run thunderstrike? Why not BM for extra horde management?

Lol pushing that sniper off was dirty
Yea, that was fun, earned that thumbs up there.

I thought I had a decent grasp of the Ogryn but this video showed me so many things that I can learn from. Top notch gameplay! Well done good sir!

Poxburster MVP saved the run.
Loving these vids and trying the builds. Good fun.

Dodge sliding counts as using 2 dodge stacks. Great mobility tools, but definitely not a move to spam.
@@IsThisHacked your stamina doesn't drop when you slide though, correct?
@@ryaneggert112stamina has nothing to do with dodging. Only blocks / pushes
Gotta love ogryn! Some good gameplay as always.
This build looks really fun gonna have to try it
Dat sniper push was personnal xD

I always thought Slab Shield and Maul with bleed is the best melee weapon for ogryn. Thanks for proofing this, ChocoB-san. Btw, nice game play !!!

So which class would you say is your favorite and which one is the best(both don’t have to be mutually exclusive)?
At this rate, you could probably send in an ogryn with just the shield without the club and they'd be just as effective
GigaChad Ogryn moment
what is that rumbler skin called? I got everything else that goes with that color
Lore accurate ogryn:

He already has a video with the Kickback. I think he just likes the grenade launcher
how you spam the firts heavy atack over and over again??
I know this is 6months old but you just tap block after the first heavy
is there a good recommendation for slide/crouch button?
I'm a shift = dodge user in vermintide 2 so the addition of sprint button is really messing with me in darktide
I sprint and dodge with shift, then crouch and slide with space. Moved my jump to left alt and it's worked wonders
How do you do the first heavt hit over and over again?
Block cancel. Hit block and reset heavy chain. You can also weapon switch cancel, but I find block cancel far more effective.
How are you playing solo if I may ask?
What happened at 40:07,does choco blocked a trapper's net?
He dodged right, making the trap miss.
Looks like it plays much slower than Vermintide II.
Awesome gameplay! Is the only way to get free from a dog solo to have a bomber blow up on you?
