@@grapecraftfactions7675 The 4th-6th gens got double wishbone. When Honda released the 7th gen, a lot of people complained about the Macpherson struts, but that obviously didn't stop them from continuing to use that design.

I have Em2 D17A9 92kw vtec, and 2nd and 3rd gears, this is the right gears for this car, engine is good, at 4500rpm it changes and gives you powa. This car is so fun to drive :)
Those engines are known for blowing headgasket if abused too much (more than other engines). People usually drive them till blow and then swap for D16 or K-series (depending if they want just realiable daily or faster car) My gasket didn't blow up, but it started overheating and drinking coolant, so it was close.
The D17 engines are fine for normal daily driving and are very fuel efficient. They aren't great performance engines though and they won't reliably tolerate a ton of power, so if your goal is to build a race car you would be better off starting with an engine that was built for performance like a K20 or K24.
How would this do with a K20A6 (the one from the 2003 Accord and HR-V, 155hp) or with a R18A2 (from the 2006 Civic, 141hp)??? I'm currently looking for an EM2 Coupe as a long-term project car but they are super rare in Europe and every single one I find has a lot of Km, so I might consider a swap if I can get my hands on one. I know neither of those is a performance engine, but I also need something with decent fuel economy, and both are pretty common.
I had an EJ6 D16Y7 with the brilliant Hondamatic gearbox for many years, it was nearly 20 when I sold it and nothing went wrong or broke...ever. just the usual tyres and consumables. I could have gotten an EM for around the same money (the EJ was on 60k!) but you loose the party piece of the Civic, you loose the double wishbone. Then what's annoying is the EJ looks gorgeous at the back and bug eyed from the front and the EM looks better at the front but with that awful rear and tacky JDM afterthought foglamp 🙄
I had few cars but this civic is piece of shit. Low Power and Torque (only you feel torq between 2-3 t rpm.) and long gear ratio. Noise in cab is huge i dont know what this car was built for.
The d17 is a stroked out version of the d16. It's essentially taking all of the things that make a Honda engine great and trying to make them more accessible and usable for everyday driving, they have mid-range torque and a red line that is typical of most other competitors. See the problem is as we rolled on into the noughties CO2 emissions etc started to become a real concern and also cars started to become taxed based on those figures in a lot of countries including here in the UK. Your typical D16 is not going to give you good figures in terms of emissions and economy. Even the d16y7, the bottom of the barrel non VTEC from the EJ6 (105BHP) had a redline of 7200RPM. Short stroke smaller displacement rev monsters we're not going to fit in with how things needed to be, and now look where we are. We've gone from engines like the legendary F20, where the pistons can be flying at 25 m per second to having crappy boosted 3 pots like everyone else. Even people like BMW have had to abandon their principles of straight 6 engines and rear wheel drive and are now offering cars with three pots and front wheel drive. Sadly car design is just being bent to the will of government legislation and car design is now being catered towards what the Chinese want rather than what European people want, hence why BMWs now have kidney grilles that look like they could be used to house a flock of budgie's. Sorry for the rant dude just trying to help you understand why things started to go south. It's the same reason the double wishbone had to go with the EM, it takes up too much space that is needed for crumple zones and also it's too heavy 😭
