Guys don't forget that Holden is an ambassador sent from Avarsarala. Murtry doesn't want to bring the heat that killing Holden might bring down on him or the company he works for.
Mars' society and economy have been built around their terraforming project. With the opening of the gates, there are 1300 planetary systems with worlds that do not need to be terraformed, so the "best and the brightest" of Mars are all leaving and the "dream of Mars" that Bobbie was raised on has ended and now all of the rats are abandoning ship and getting whatever they can before they do so.
Holden is all about questioning the means of a mission, Murtry is all about the completing the mission at all costs, no matter the means. That is why I love the conflict between Holden and Murtry.
Just an FYI Normies, the gun that the Rocci used wasn’t new. That’s just the standard PDC being used in a much smaller scale than normal. The guns that they use in close combat to fight other ships are crazy powerful on the ground!
100% These are the guns you saw shred up the Stealth ship in S2. They just fly through space but that power on gravity is great. Naomi also just reprogrammed it to give random.cover fire to tear up the ground and dust so Murty couldn't do anything.
Yeah, those are the same PDCs firing single shots instead of full auto. They've been confirmed as 40mm armor piercing: twitter.com/jamessacorey/status/897486466393284610?lang=en I thought they might have an explosive element but I guess that's just what happens when a high velocity 40mm round impacts dirt. Really good fire suppression there....
About Holden's power move against Murtry, although Holden may be outgunned on the ground, the Roci is now in orbit along with the Edward Israel, the ship that Murtry is in de facto command of since its captain was killed (the EI is not a gunship, and it's the only ride home for Murtry & his people). Also, Murtry knows that Holden holds influence in high places (Avasarala), so he needs a more politic approach-the tactics he uses against the Belters won't work against Roci peeps.
Mars at this point in the story reflects the fall of the Soviet Union. When the Soviet Union fell the generals started becoming arms dealers; smuggling and selling military equipment to the highest bidder. I might be wrong but that's just what it looks like to me
The Mars collapse storyline is the hardest to buy into for me. Until now the Martians have been portrayed as a people united in a common goal. They had the greatest scientists and engineers. The military was the most advanced technologically and though outnumbered by the UN, they were a serious threat to Earth. Honor and loyalty were paramount. This Martian philosophy was generational. Now suddenly, we are told that within 8 months they are willingly dismantling their military and abandoning the terraforming project? I just don’t buy it. They didn’t lose the war with Earth. If they had, then I could buy this but they didn’t. To me, it makes more sense that Earth would be having the major problems. With so many unemployed, there would be constant riots, protests, etc. these people would be desperate to get through the ring. That would be believable.
@@ohnofan they are abandoning the terraforming of mars because they now have 1300 new planets and they don't need to terraform those planets because they already have environment similar to earth and it does not cost billions.
@@ohnofan Mars is losing because of the ring. And Earth is changing, the elections show some of that. It sounds very reasonable and yes, i'm very late. Xd
Bobby grew up with the Martian dream, turning a planet into a garden, brothers in arms watching out for one another. Lost her closest friends in the line of Duty and she returned home to find those brothers are ready to pack their bags and ditch her for any other planet with a better start at life and stripping down technology to make money. And she is being manipulated to participate. The only motivation for her now is to continue infiltrating how high this goes to fight for what she belives in as a true Veteran Martian. Naomi's plot is not in the book but is in there as a belter we know. One of the issues of letting people through the gate is not everyone can participate not only did half the belter crew that went to illus died trying to adapt to planetary conditions even good people who could help cant participate and help where its needed because they are belters. So if they let Earth and Mars through they will have a bigger monopoly on the belters. This is where Marcos counter argument comes in. The belters have always been rich being the most adapt to space conditions and they let earth and mars have free travel into their home and take their riches for themselves. He belives they should serve the belters for enabling them to have that freedom to travel beyond the gates. I think Ashford and Drummers votes will have long reaching ramifications that will change their lives forever 😏
So Marco said something about Mars. I was just rewatching Season 1/Ep 1...when Avasalara was interrogating the Belter who was caught with stealth materials. There was a hint then that Mars and the OPA might have been working together against Earth...but what if it wasn't the Martian government and the OPA but Marco and the Martian renegades that Bobbie is now falling in with all along?
I’m rewatching season 1 and I had the same thought! Also that scene with Avasarala and her grandchild on the rooftop when she says she’s afraid of people throwing rocks.. I LOVE THIS SHOW
That gun on the Roci was just a regular pdc. We just never knew how loud those things actually are because the Roci hasn't been in an atmosphere until now.
The problem with Murtry is that he thinks he's judge, jury, and executioner. He's right to want to hold the belters that killed his people accountable, but he should lock them up, put them on trial or something. Not just straight up murder them.
In the book Coop and his terrorist friends actually attack RCE personel 2 times more in both times killing all ambushed without any mercy and without provocation.. so in the book Murty simply was being practical at this point as theese belters were murdering his men and every attack made him weaker .. in the series there is not such attacks so he goes straight up from the shuttle shot down and Coop threats to executing.. Also in the book when he kills the remaining of the terrorists in that container its a shot out .. they began shoting from inside when cornered.. here he outright forces them to exit just to shot them
Remember that when Inaros starts talking to Drummer he says "we all tell lies to ourselves." From that point, you can dismiss anything that says regarding his relationship with Naomi.
I know we all love 'the crew', but Drummer and Ashford are my favorite characters from this season. Edit: When are you guys going to do The Orville? I assume you're going to react to it at some point.
about where the three factions are right now: The un is by definition in avasarala's words "a Thousand petty factions pushing and fighting with each other", which makes sense given the current UN and EU, which is where the future earth government is derived from. like how from the outside world the EU looks like a single economic and diplomatic block, the UN seems united from the belter and martian perspectives, while internally during peace it is anything but that. same with the belt, except less organized, poorer and more fractured. the war with mars and the rings opening didn't really change earth or the belt (big sidenote: YET), besides weaken earth and mars to where they were forced to A: reconcile with each other and the (less crazy parts of the) OPA to focus on what they feared would be an alien threat from the ring, and B: as ashford says, stop policing the belt and reluctantly hand formal control of it over to the OPA. the place that has been shattered by the new situation is mars: think of them like a democratic version of nazi Germany: advanced, laser-focused, highly militarized. they were that because of two things: the goal/dream of terraforming the planet into a garden, and the threat of war with earth. now both are moot points. peace has happened before, but never before has the terraforming of the planet been made obsolete overnight, robbing mars of its identity since now there's no point or value in its vision for the future. so what does that mean for both the civilian and military forces on mars? well... you'il just have to wait and see...
@10:25 Mikey’s comment about a “new feature”. No, this was simply Naomi remotely firing one of the Roci’s PDCs (Point Defense Cannon). In space they usually fire a lot faster and are used to take out enemy missiles and torpedos. Fired one shot at a time in the atmosphere of a planet, it’s a lot louder.
Anyone else getting Deadwood vibes from this season? It's like Holden is the sheriff Bullock caught in the middle of this rivalry between the law and lawlessness but he has some form of immunity because he's an official rep of the U.N.
I just wish the Belter leader was more charismatic, like Swearingen. "Morty" is great as a Wolcott-like character, someone with legal authority who uses it to justify murder.
Also, They I completely agree that they did a FANTASTIC job on their casting of Marcos Inaros. From what I can glean, Mr. Grey Beanie hasn't read past Cibola Burn, so he hasn't actually seen Marcos Inaros come up in the books yet... but man, oh man, they really did a fantastic job of casting him... from his personality to how he's actually described, physically... a FANTASTIC job at his casting... Really they did a fantastic job at ALL their casting choices in the show... Murtry was a PERFECT casting choice, and so was Dr. Okoye... and even all the other main characters... the only character that really is pretty different, physically, from how they're described in the book is actually Amos. In the book he's way less of a hottie, lol... and more of a stereotypical truck driver or a mechanic... he's described as stocky, with a receding hairline and stuff... Also, Bobby is less of a stunning model-type... I mean, they do say she is "highly attractive", but that she is more masculine in her body build... more muscular (they say that she is "100 kilos", which would be 220 pounds). But still, Frankie is the absolute PERFECT person to play Bobbie... And I can't believe they somehow did find a beautiful, strong, "over 2 meters", as the book describes her, and (especially) of polynesian descent... she was basically born to play that role, and I really can't believe they found her for the role. Everyone else is basically right on point, physically, to how they are described in the book.
Casting is an underappreciated side of the business. "Half of directing is casting." It's the quest for the impossible: find the perfect actor. The balance must often be struck between look, skill, and intangibles. Does the actor look the part? Are they a good actor? Do they have that certain something which brings life into the character? It's a challenging gig. Frankie Adams, I believe, was a choice made on the strength of the third question. She breathes a kind of metaphorical air Bobbie Draper does. There's a mix of swagger, strength, sharpness, discipline, worldiness, and honour which Adams naturally gives her. Is it acting skill (which is more than just running lines and conveying emotions, it's being in the character's headspace) or natural qualilities bleeding through? Hard to say. Most of all, though, she has poise. It's a different kind of poise than Avasarala/Aghdashloo. A more stoic, less elegant poise but poise nonetheless. So, I think that's at least part of what makes her ideal for the role. So, kudos to Casting Director John Papsidera, his team, and whoever made the final decision on Frankie Adams.
They should have done the same thing as miller :” i shoot him because he was starting to make sense” (when he shot the science guy who was reserching the protomolecule).
a year seems so long to wait for a new season, but it is so many shows and content to dig in...Maybe I'll watch Shameless or one of the HBO shows Dark Materials or something next.
Mr. Grey Beanie is the only Normie who is going to understand this comment... but I was really sad when I learned that Havelock wasn't going to be in this season of The Expanse... He had my favorite character arc from the Cibola Burn book. And the whole Naomi/Havelock dynamic was SO awesome in the book, and they obviously had to take a lot of the stuff dealing with his role on the Edward Israel out of the story for the show adaptation... (I believe they weren't able to get him back because of scheduling conflicts with something else he was shooting... mostlikely Magnum P.I...) but at least they didn't have to take nearly as much out from the book as they did with Season 3/Abaddon's Gate... which I really think a lot of that had to do with the higher-ups, the producers, and the writers, having a good idea that they might actually be canceled that season, and wanting to AT LEAST be able to wrap up the story of Book 3, Abaddon's Gate, and end the show at a point where it could seem as wrapped up as possible, as opposed to having the show canceled right in the MIDDLE of Book 3's story... which would have felt SO SO SO freaking abrupt and incomplete and out of nowhere... like imagine if Season 2 is where the show was canceled and had to leave it be... that would have been SOOOOO damn terrible of a place to end the whole show!
This is why expanse is often called the got of space becoz while the greater threat of protomolecule and alien is loomig large...all the fractions are dealing with their own conflicts and politics is at its peak

Hi The Normies, I don’t normally comment but you guys are great and I love your reaction videos. May i ask if/when you plan on reacting to the new series of Doctor Who please?
Hey dude its Me Nahid. I watch Doctor who with Rana. Personally im tryhing to figure it out with all the stuff we are watching. Cuz we are watching a ton. This isnt a no or a yes. More of trying to find a perfect time lol. But we will figure it out.
The Normies hi Nahid, I really appreciate you replying. Yeah that’s cool I imagine it must be difficult to schedule everything in. I’ll wait patiently for your reaction. Btw this new series so far is worth the watch I can assure you.
Is the first season of this show considered great? Or is it one of those shows that gets much better later. Because I recently started season one and so far I'm not blown away
Season 1 is mostly set up. Some say episode 4 is where they get hooked while others say it even takes them a few episodes into season 2 before they can trully appreciate how great this show is (keep in mind that book 1 concludes almost midway through season 2, so it makes sense that S1 leaves some people underwhelmed, though I'm not one of them). S1 becomes better in retrospect. There are many exciting things coming post-season 1, which wouldn't have been nearly as impactful had we not been given the framework. This show has incredible re-watch value. I keep noticing something new every time I binge it, even through the lense of S4.
Yes, the first season is a little slow because it focus more on worldbuilding and establishing the main actors and threats, but after that each season gets more streamline and better.
@@hoos3014 I have two sources. From the show, when the island explodes, the geophysicist aboard the Edward Israel actually describes it as a thermonuclear detonation. I've also read Cibola Burn where we are informed that ALL of the islands appear to have fusion reactors underneath them.
It was pretty bad if you ask me. I've checked with some book readers and they definitely did a shit job of adapting the story. I understand that it was the weakest book, but from what readers have told me there was plenty of better material to fill 10 hours of TV.

Ilus scenes are filmed in a quarry outside of Toronto.
My deal is… Theres an entire planet Murtry an Co. decides to double park right on top of the belters???? Like when you got a bathroom full of urinals and someone come and piss in the one right next to you!! *Gestures broadly*
10:08 Those are the same PDCs firing single shots instead of full auto. They've been confirmed as 40mm armor piercing: twitter.com/jamessacorey/status/897486466393284610?lang=en
I thought they might have an explosive element but I guess that's just what happens when a high velocity 40mm round impacts dirt. Really good fire suppression there....
Yeah, that sense of honor is what got her booted from the military.
Activate Suko voice: "Honor!"
Honour and duty are very powerful together, when acting in unison. But when their paths collide, only one can survive.
First season was pretty boring. Gets a little better with season 2. Season 3 and 4 are fantastic.
For me, season 1 starts slow but gets really gud.
The first season is pretty rough. But the following 3 seasons are fantastic.
15:14 FACTS!
Do you only record the TV sound on the room mic on purpose now? It's so hard to hear most of it without cranking the volume and risking my hearing.
No the company people came to take whatever natural resources they could even tho betters claimed that planet. They should have went to another planet
In the eyes of RCE official charter > belter squatters. No different to colonial England claiming an island already populated by natives.
Are you gonna watch Star wars episode 5 anytime soon? :)
Yeah guys, you can't really wait too long. Episode V is the best of the trilogy.
The island was the site of a concealed fusion reactor that was detonated.
How do you know this? /s
@@hoos3014 I have two sources. From the show, when the island explodes, the geophysicist aboard the Edward Israel actually describes it as a thermonuclear detonation. I've also read Cibola Burn where we are informed that ALL of the islands appear to have fusion reactors underneath them.
Maybe you should fucking wait and let the show mention that.
Ugh Suraj thinks astrology is real so disappointed
I can't stand that Rana, one of the best reactors, spends as much time taking notes (and reading notes!) as watching the show.
Hey man, she's doing her thing. Her predictions over the years are always on point though
Quit discussing shit mid-episode. You think you're not missing things when you do but you are. Wait until later.
Unpopular opinion, but this is my least favorite season. I haven't finished yet so we'll see. But it think it's good, whereas past seasons were great!
I think most poeple would agree. Apparently, this is adapted from the weakest book aswell.
I agree, it's not nearly as good as 2 or 3. Maybe about the same as 1 - maybe.
It was pretty bad if you ask me. I've checked with some book readers and they definitely did a shit job of adapting the story. I understand that it was the weakest book, but from what readers have told me there was plenty of better material to fill 10 hours of TV.
@@benhmn I read the book but honestly this season is better than the book
This is a setup season for what's coming next
Horoscopes are bullshit
Pluto is not a planet
hxh???
Wednesday
way too slow. episode 4
