When Number Six snaps the baby's neck .. I always considered that she was displaying both fascination at the human anatomy/physiology at such a young age but more so that she was displaying mercy given the impending nuclear attack.
As 6 picks up the baby and cradles it, she quietly says "you won't have to cry much longer" 😯😯😯

17:50: From what I remember, the director wanted Commander Adama to look at Lee in this scene. When EJO didn't turn around, the director asked what he was doing and he said that Adama couldn't face Lee because a big part of him blames himself as much as Lee does. Shows just how good of an actor he is that he got the character so well so early in the process.
the moment Bear McCreary takes over in season one to compose the score, you gonna hear tv-music like never before.
He peaked with his scores here. All his subsequent work has been utterly forgettable; Muzak.
@@vercoda9997 I very much disagree. His work here is excellent, but much of his work (that I'm aware of) since then is also high tier. The God of War soundtracks, Outlander, and Black Sails are really good and thematically appropriate. I like how he changes up his style depending on the source material. Lots of military drumbeats for BSG, gaelic influence for Outlander, and choirs and a BLOODY HURDY GURDY for GoW.
He has definitely not been making muzak.

I'm glad Micky is here for this one. Dude's doing a lot to provide context for the rest of the couch when they're reacting to things, and is helping them to have more perspective for what's happening. I see you, dude - respect. Clearly a fan of the show and you're doing a good job of helping your friends to enjoy it too.

Fun fact: Edward James Olmos did not want to do this show initially, he heard spaceships and said, nah its not my style. But then he read the script and he was in. Great reaction guys! You all will love this series.
If I remember correctly, he also said he didn't want to do it if it involved aliens.
He said the day someone walked on set with an alien costume or makeup, we would wait till cameras were rolling, fake a heart attack in character then walk off set so that was the last footage they had of him as Adama. Total boss haha
All the actors in the show were great but EJO elevated the show into the stratosphere, such a fantastic actor
38:49 I saw Aaron Douglas (Tyrol) at a con once and he told us they filmed this scene immediately after lunch, at which Eddie Olmos had eaten "basically an onion sandwich," so when you see Adama growl "He's the XO" right up in Tyrol's face, those are very real tears he's holding back 😂
Baltar is one of the greatest grey characters ever on tv
Battlestar Galactica did for Sci-Fi what Game of Thrones later did for Fantasy. It made people take sci-fi shows seriously. Previously it was a neitch thing, a "nerdy" thing. When Galactica was on air everybody talked about it, magazines and mainstream media reviewed and talked about it seriously. Critically acclaimed and got huge numbers for a show of this genre.
Ground breaking in every sense of the word! In my personal top 5 TV shows of all time!

@leapark4281 no, lotr didn't do anything for fantasy tv. It was still "nerdy" and not serious. GoT made the interest in fantasy TV explode. The number of GoT type shows grew exponentially. Lotr, while fantastic didn't really move the needle for TV shows all that much.
@@NikstSWE GoT wouldn't even been picked up for something as mainstream as HBO if LOTR haven't come around.
That trilogy proved to the entertainment executives and honchos that fantasy, if done right and if enough resources are provided (the budget for Season 1 alone was around 60 Million, unheard of numbers for a mere TV show), can still be immensely profitable.
All it needed was a bit of sweaty sex.
BSG is to sci-fi what GoT is to fantasy, yes... but Babylon5 is to sci-fi what LOTR is to fantasy. Without LOTR, GoT never gets made just like without B5, BSG never gets made.

The reason that person is carrying art (and another carrying books) is because he knows humanity is about to be destroyed. He saved the art in case anyone survived. It's the same reason why people run into museums and libraries when they're on fire. Save what you can for the future, if there is one.

BSG was such a breath of fresh air. No quick fixes or resets, limited resources, and a serious willingness to shake up the status quo. Thanks for jumping in and sharing your reactions to this series!

The actor who plays lieutenant Felix Gaeta does the English voice over for L in Death Note. The cylons killed the baby to put it out of its misery of being destroyed because before she did it she said soon you won't have to cry again. She did on the purpose it was not an accident.

Colonel Tigh is the voice actor for General Tullius in Skyrim. For the Empire!
And you can REALLY tell. He's got one hell of a distinctive voice, and once you know it, you hear it everywhere. He's also the doctor who patches you up at the start of Fallout New Vegas.
I had forgotten that Doc Mitchell was also Tullius. Another iconic role. @@MadMadNomad

In hindsight, killing the baby on Caprica (not Earth) before the planet was bombarded by Cylon nuclear missiles was a mercy.
This series is the sole reason that I know my astrological sign - so that I can guess which of the Twelve Colonies of Kobol I'd be from.

When he notes that there are no cockpits on these cylon raiders, he's talking about the fact that they've upgraded the design. He's a veteran of the first cylon war and remembers what the old designs looked like. Actual ships flown by cylon drones in actual cockpits.

I need more reactors to react to this. I am so happy yall are doing it. This series is sooooooo good, but soooo underrated and unknown by sooooo many people. This was peak Syfy channel, and one of the best things they ever produced to this day.

@ Yea, the only reason Indint count the Expanse is because they sold it before it finished. But that is also an amazing series.
In the scene where Lee and his Father are arguing about Zak. Edward James Olmos kept his back to actor Jamie Bamber during each take, despite the director asking him to turn around. Finally he took Olmos aside and asked him what he was doing. Olmos said that despite Adama's insistence that he's not responsible for Zak's death, in his heart he believe's that he is. That's why Adama has his back to Lee, he literally can't face his son, he can't look him in the eyes. So the director let Olmos shoot the scene the way he wanted, because he thought that Olmo's take was brilliant.
The old lady won the lottery fair and square, and all people have equal value.
If we start separating out people based on "utility"... you don't want to live in the world that leads to.
Keep that notion in mind, because perhaps we may meet other characters down the line who have the idea to strip out those who are "useful" and discard those who aren't.

Fun fact: Tricia Helfer (the woman in the red dress) was originally hired b/c she used to be a lingerie model. Cue her stunning everyone - including the creators themselves - when she turned out to be probably the best actor out of an entire cast of fantastic actors.
She said that during miniseries she felt like "slab of meat".
It took a while, though. At the beginning of the series, she's more or less stuck to play the sexy blonde eye candy while everyone else on the show has great character drama. Takes until season 2 for her role to get more complex and varied. Not that there's anything wrong with her acting... just needed a bit of time until they gave her better material to work with in the show.
Best actor? Respectfully, no. A damn strong actor? Yes.
Both Edward James Olmos and Mary McDonnell are both significantly better, but, that's to be expected, given their years of experience.
This is one of the best Sci-Fi shows of all time and one of my favorite TV shows of all time. Hope they like it and watch all 4 seasons. This could be epic.
I was 10 years old when the original Battlestar Galactica premiered on ABC in 1978. Loved that show but it did have some cringey issues. However, the reboot inherited concepts from the original show and took things to a whole new level. Subscribing to watch your reactions to the reboot.

Same, I was 5 and my proto-nerd baby brain was rabidly eating it up after seeing Star Wars. Loved how they managed to organically sneak in references to the original series right up until the end, such a good show.

This is one of my all time favourite TV series. If you guys like this now, you are in for one heck of a ride. I have watched the entire series from beginning to end many times over. And the music score is amazing through out.
FYI Edward James Olmos (Commander Adama) was a human character named Gaff in both of the Bladerunner movies. His profession was hunting human looking robots or Replicants as they were called.
So many similarities between this show and those movies.

Tricia Helfer had a podcast called Battlestar Galacticast that's still available. On the show she said the network fought against the baby killing. To soften the blow she made it a mercy killing. Before she killed it, she said to the baby that they won't have to suffer. That's also why she walked away looking sad. The producers wanted that scene to make fans of the original to know this was going to be a much different show.
This is my favorite show, and I'm so happy you react to it :) I'm ten minutes in and already in a bit of an agony - guys, please listen to the dialogue! So much stuff is going over your head while you are constantly talking!
YES! So glad you guys are doing this. This is one of the series I wanted you guys to watch. You guys won't be disappointed. To Micky, the reason the CAG was surprised that there were no pilots in the opening encounter is because in the old BSG (the one with Lorne Greene), the Cylons were basically robots who flew ships. Those are the models they were expecting.
At 32:36 that was indeed a nuke, which in a bit of irony is not nearly as effective in space as it is in the atmosphere of a planet. Without the atmosphere, there is no ball of plasma compressing the air into a shockwave that can turn reinforced concrete into bits of masonry dust, there is no planetary EM field or atmosphere to scatter radiation and convert it to an EMP, its basically just a huge amount of light, heat, X-rays and gamma radiation. If the Galactica had a huge amount of radiation shielding (probably more advanced than just layers of lead, using sci-fi metals) it could uncomfortably survive a direct nuclear impact. Though I guarantee a ton of people getting lethal radiation exposure inside the ship and outside in the Vipers.
They would just take a shot of anti-radiation meds.

James Callis the Actor who plays Gaius Baltar, also Voices Alucard in the Castlevania series.
He's also Bridget Jones's gay friend in the Bridget Jones movies
and Picard's father in Star Trek: Picard.
Now we just have to get him in Star Wars.
Fun dubbing fact : in french, James Callis voice actor is the same as Scott Bakulla, and also the voice of the Codex in Mass Effect. It's a cult SF voice.

25:15, in the 1978 Galactica the raiders *were* flown by robots. The floating red dot was the esthetic of those robots.
in a novelisation of one of the episodes it describes the cylons as a lizard like race, how cannon that makes it i have no idea
@@somthingbrutal The original real Cylons were lizard like beings. They created the robotic Cylons who then overthrew them. The robots then began to call themselves Cylons. In the original episode Captain Apollo actually explained this to a young child who would become his adopted son.
The showrunners for the reboot merged these original canon into a storyline in which it was humans who created the Cylons.

Wow I feel old. As for the brain graft that makes me think despite appearances the robotic Cylons are more like cyborgs. Of course their idea of brain tissue may actually be some type of nanotechnology that mimics living tissue.
The Cylon commander whose perspective we got was named Vulpa. The ending with Vulpa putting itself into standbye mode in the wreckage of Cylon garrison. Just wow.

29:34 - Holy cr*p that actor (Matthew Bennett) was in The Expanse too as a martian sub-commader. He was the guy who made the tooth fairy joke in season 3.
One of my all time favorite shows. I was able to meet Katee Sackoff (Starbuck) and Mary McDonnell (President Laura Roslin) a few years ago at a convention. MMcD especially was a very sweet and amazing person to meet.
Several of the main cast members should have been nominated for Emmys, but as we all know the Emmys ignores genre shows for the most part.

The miniseries aired in the fall of 2003, on SYfy and was such success they edited into a 3 hour one night event that aired on NBC, before production began on the series. The series aired January 2005 in the US, but first aired in the UK in 2004
An interesting note - the Anthem playing when the squadron does their flyby, before Adama's speech was the theme of the original series in 1978....

i am READY to go on this journey with you all. every few years, i cue up battlestar and go through the tiers of emotions. and i had the soundtracks - Bear McCreary is joy. this whole show was joy
What was amazing is that this was made an a shoe string of a budget. Of note also is how much improvisation was done on this show, example was the speech Chief Tyrol to the deck crew when word came about the cyclon attack had been improvised in the moment by the actor. This creative freedom allowed the actors to dive deeper into their characters throughout the shows run.

This entire show never ages. I don't know how they managed that, but you can watch it 20 years later and it still feels fresh.
The miniseries was broadcast just 2 years after 9/11. The wound of that day was still very fresh in the souls of all viewers when they watched this, which gave even more impact to the surprise attack scene.

Always nice to see another BSG reaction, looking forward to follow you on your journey. Probably my favourite TV show of all time and a criminal lack of reaction channels picking it up. Thankfully seems to have changed in the last 1-2 years, as I've seen a couple channels going down the BSG rabbit hole.

It consisted of one season of 24 episodes.

Micky's gotten really good at being The Guide, the person who's watched it, while the rest haven't. I used to be very critical of him, but he did a fantastic job, letting the others theorise, not even hinting about anything spoilery, and dropping lots of wisdom throughout the video.
OMG, you have no idea how excited I am for this!!! I was raised on this show (granted, due to how late it was on I usually only made it to the intro theme before falling to sleep) but this is a family stable. Really hope this exposes this series to more people, for some reason I’ve had a lot of issues trying to find this series on steam services that I just decided to buy it on Apple TV so i have permanent access to it. Can’t wait for more ❤

I was just like Mickey in that I watched season 1 before realising there was a miniseries. It still makes sense, but the miniseries gives so much context. Frakkin’ love this show!
