    I graduated from shaker. Shaker will always be near and dear to my heart. The taxes are still high but you get less for what we got 20, 30, 40 years ago. When i went, shaker was #2 in the country in education, a drop from #1. Shaker is not even on the map anymore. Solon took our spot for awhile.

      Agreed. My mom moved me from Cle+ public to Shaker Woodbury and we stayed until graduation. I try to teach my kid using some of the styles I learned there, but I get hit with "that's not how my teacher told us to do it." SH made me really curious about learning and they went above and beyond when I was sick so I didn't fall behind.❤

    The original Stouffer’s restaurant was in Shaker Square. My father was a bartender there and later worked in refrigeration when they started the frozen foods company. My mother had an internship in the test kitchen and that’s where they met. There are lots of interesting historical facts about the community..

      Hi. I know this is a long shot but does anyone remember my parents, Donald Butter and his wife Jean, two kids, Calum and Sharon.
      They moved to another city in about 1972. I'm Calum and was born in Shaker Heights.

    Grew up in South Euclid back in the day but loved driving through Shaker Heights. Such a beautiful area. Van Aken's an old school classic by the way and I used to work at Starbucks Coffee right by there on Warrensville Road and the RTA transit covering some shifts. Now I'm in Vermont ( long story ).

    I think about “Jeopardy!” for Shaker Heights since the Cleveland area was always a favorite of Alex Trebek.

    I remember a woman tried to commit a crime, then was heading back down Chagrin to get back into Cleveland. She was stopped by 5 Shaker Heights police, right across from Walgreens

  • @jimslancio

    You might've mentioned the Chagrin/Lee shopping district. With the library, city hall, and courthouse, that's more my idea of a downtown.

    Brassica in the Van Aken Market Hall is awesome, but you always know that an area that has a Mitchell's Ice Cream is going to an area worth checking out. If you drive east on Chagrin toward Trader Joe's there is a cool Indian fast food place called Choolaah's.

    Another excellent video! Shaker Jeights is a wonderful and scenic place to live, however, the taxes are brutal! Even though Cleveland Heights shares the same burden of high taxes, they also have more entertainment offerings (I've lived in both cities).

    Hey! What about weather in general? Not only in Shaker Heights but the surrounding areas and Akron. Do they have tornadoes? Flooding? Thank you!

    • @livinginnortheastohio8643
      @livinginnortheastohio8643  2 роки тому

      Generally, east side of Cleveland does get more snow than the west side but storms here are scattered a lot of times.
      Winter is from November-February
      Spring is from March-May
      Summer is from June-august
      Fall is the best time of year here, no questions about that, September-October
      It’s humid here, but rarely gets super hot, above 90’s. Tornados do happen but are not common and flooding depends on the areas you’re in. If you’re in the “country” a bit more it can happen.

    • @worldclasstraveler3530
      @worldclasstraveler3530 Рік тому

      They dont get floods or tornadoes. It's mkre on lower land or the old part of cleveland, metro parks and places where drainage systems havent been updated.

      @@livinginnortheastohio8643 not true. When it snows, shaker, Mayfield and those suburbs get hit the worse. I live off the lake now. We get hit sometimes but a lot of times it skips over us and hit this part. You want to talk to the locals, especially the old heads, when looking into a neighborhood. Thats from me being here on earth 42 yeara.

    • @livinginnortheastohio8643

      I believe thats a condo development, not an apartment complex. 13415 Shaker Blvd, Cleveland, OH 44120, found just outside the Boulevard district. Average price is around $120,000 but the HOA fees is what gets you, its around $800 a month!

      Yes there’s actually both, the new condo complex on Shaker Blvd and also the older apartments called Moreland Court Apartments on North Moreland Blvd. This was my very first bachelor apartment in my 20’s, very nice historical garden style apartments with a lot of character.
