Ryan it's your buddy Richard. You don't know me, but I know you pretty well. today I started my second round of chemotherapy. I am at the hospital for about 6 hours. I have been reading The Long Way Home. So hearing from you today is the best medicine I could have received. You are so strong you got this. (and if you don't, I still love you.) You have always motivated me to "GET OUT THERE" and I am forever grateful. More importantly, I watch you and how you interact with the world, friends and family, and you motivate me to be a better man. And dare I say it? That is even more important. I used to be a Patreon, but I am broke now. I hope to live and get my life back together and get it back. Motivation Is priceless.

Then I rode from San Diego to Green valley Arizona turn Tucson Phoenix and back. Then from San Diego to the 395 to Betty Nevada to Vegas and back to San Diego the best times ever and I did this with my best friend ever Oscar my dog so thank you I have no regrets

Ryan, you're tougher and more courageous than I realized, and I've always admired you. You know you are loved, so I will only add this..; Take good care of those open saddle sores -- take a day off if you need to, to give them a chance to heal. They can lead to infection if your not careful. Good luck. We're rooting for you.

When you’re honest about how hard it is, it really helps. Not TMI. If you make it seem effortless, then when we go out and face hardship, we think, this must just not be for us. When we see you facing hardship, we know that’s just part of the package.

You did the right thing so you can do more adventures on your terms in the future. Your health is the most important part of any adventure, My husband and I shared a ride from San Diego to Virginia in our 50's each doing about 100 miles per day with one of us driving our van while the other was riding but we had near perfect weather and we camped in the van so did not have to carry gear and road on roads so the terrain was much easier and in view of that I can't imagine doing the journey you were on, Take care and heal well and we will look forward to more adventures.

Ryan, I got saddle sores last year at RAGBRAI. I found relief applying diaper rash creme. Look for one that contains zinc oxide to take the edge off the pain and protect that tender skin. Hope things improve drastically. Your optimism will carry you through these tough days!

Regardless of any sporting challenge do be mindful of your body and listen closely with devoted attention, after all it has taken you around the world, right? Ryan you're not the only one that crys while racing. I usually start thinking about how lucky we are to get to do this kinda stuff, and then it translates into other things. Last year I started thinking about a Huey helicopter that's named "Greyhound" that they give rides with over here in Michigan, and got choked up about how bad ass it is. I get very thankful on tough rides, and very deep in my thoughts. Lots of quiet time.
