Great gear list video Ryan, I'll be sure to come back to it when I'm in the market for more gear. (The fork bottle cages next for me). Appreciate you Ryan.
Great video! I’m circling the lower peninsula of Michigan as soon as the snow melts in spring, and I just switched out my saddle bag for the spider aeroe rack. It’s sweet!
@duzer Ryan - Switching from an REI to a Nemo Hornet OSMO to save weight and space on my bike. Can't wait to use it as the weather gets warmer and RAGBRAI. Earplugs are a must on RAGBRAI especially when being surrounded by loud snoring cyclists at camp😴
I have booda bike rohloff belt drive gravel bike. Doesn't have any attachment points except for ability to attach rear rack, which I do have the one from that can be bought preinstalled. But it works really well for my usage, which is 90% commute and sport, while summers I do take couple short weekend and at least one longer bikepacking trip. It's all vanilla, except for saddle which is brooks cambrium. I have alpkit custom rolltop frame bag, costs about same as good normal one. Handlebar bag plus from ortleib, two brooks stem snack bags, cheap alpkit 30L waterproof backpack on rack and acid toptube bag with transparent top that also works as phone stand, though I use garmin explore 2 for most real time navigation. Super clean setup, all heavy stuff in frame, including 3L bladder, making total I can carry 5L, on handlebar quick access clothes like raingear and cooking kit. And clothes and shelter in back rack, basically stuff I only need when I camp. Plenty of space to expand, especially with traditional rack. that has sides totally unused. Bladder I use it without hose, since I don't race it's just simpler and easier to maintain, it's just used to refill my bottles.' This video did give me good idea. I generally bike with long sleeve merino shirt, like you to block the sun. But I might just use merino sleeves and t shirt instead. One thing I do have to say though, most fabrics have quite bad sun protection, unless you pick especially UV protective clothing, and white especially does very bad job at blocking sun. But merino does quite good job at this, just pick something bit darker though, doesn't have to necessarily be black though. For me, actual gear I'm super attached to is bone conduction headphones. Just the best for spatial awareness and being able to listen to something when on move. Other is avoid zippers and get waterproof packs.
Thank you so much, Ryan, this video answered me about the handlebar system, you are using the Salsa system. This video gives me many many answers. Congratulations.
Great video and interesting to hear your thoughts on the gear you use., especially since you rep a lot of smaller businesses.. Even if you are a dork! :) stoked for your gear garage!
Hey Ryan, I noticed you have some incompatible tire plugging supplies there. The tool you have is the Dynaplug Racer. It DOES NOT use bacon strips. They have their own proprietary plugs. The bad news is that DynaPlugs are more expensive and harder to come by at shops than bacon strips and the tools that insert bacon strips. The good news is that DynaPlugs are a superior system, they just work better (more effective, faster, easier), and they are made in the USA. I'd recommend getting some spare plugs, since a single bad hole in the tire can use-up both ends of that Racer tool real quick.
Hi! This is so random and please forgive me if you’ve already explained this somewhere - but I think you used to use a Wahoo bike computer for navigation (at least I remember that from your GDMBR video), and it looks like you’re loving your Garmin now. As a much newer bikepacker who’s been using a Wahoo so far, I’m curious what prompted the switch! Also - huge fan. Thanks so much for bringing your joy & energy into the world through your videos. You’re a total inspiration and you’re making the world a better place through your example and your stories!

For Ryan or anyone else, how important are those pedals/shoes that lock in? I have size 18 US and cannot find any shoes with this functionality. I am planning for the Buckeye trail this Spring, around 600 miles, 95% biking.
Hey Ryan I have an idea for a video that I would like to see. After bike traveling for +10 years I have a lot a gear that I brought along with me that I will never bring again. I guess you as well have a list of things not to bring. Could you make a video about all the things not to bring and why? Great video. Really helpful to see some of the different gear choices. And presented in an entertaining manner. I think you forgot something. Something everybody needs. Inquiring minds want to know.😁 Your poop kit? Just curious. (mine is a trowel, Happy Bottom backcountry bidet and a Kula cloth. LNT)
Lost a perfect banana last trip ... wriggled its way to freedom off my rear rack ...was going to be my afternoon snack ... gutted! 🤣 Great tips Ryan, I wish I could wear Merino, but it itches me like crazy!
Great video and love the content. I live in the Vegas area and wear a hydration pack in the summer. I freeze a liter of water and keep that pack closest to my body and add a second 2 liter pack with old water. This keeps me cool for about an hour and a half.
Great video Ryan. My wife and I are signed up for the 24 RAGBRAI so your info here is helpful. We’ll try to say hello if we see you there. We enjoyed watching your north to south ride in Sweden too. Thanks
@@IowaNinersFan Where we live in the northern CA foothills it’s 100 ft up per mile every ride. I was recently told by my employer that I might have to be in England during RAGBRAI, but I’m trying to be replaced. I’m actually retired so we’d really like to do the ride in 24.
I carry a water bottle w/ cage (sometimes), multi tool, keys, backpack with snack, diet coke, five ten free riders and a credit card. Sometimes I carry a bendy tripod thingy and camera that I've only actually used for hummingbirds. Probably way too much stuff. But I think I'll buy your book as a Christmas present, to myself.
Great list Ryan! I'm interested in your long-term review of the 5.10 Trailcross shoes. I'm currently breaking in a pair for a ride on the GDMBR next summer (yay after 30 years of waiting!). One of the things that sold me on the shoes was the elastic cuff at the ankle, however mine doesn't fit as snuggly as I'd like it to. As a matter of fact it actually traps pebbles, instead of shields me against their intrusion. Maybe I just have dainty thoroughbred ankles LOL, but it's super annoying to have those gaps there. Keep up the great videos my friend! Always looking forward to your new content and adventures.
Have you thought about a pedal with two sides? One flat side and one with clips. Unfortunately I only have one bike for technical stuff, touring and for commuting and those pedals are great for me
Ha det bra Ryan! I am a fellow Coloradan, and am very close to ordering a Priority 600x! However, really do not need it until next spring. I have a sneaky feeling they may be introducing an updated version of this bike in the near future? As I love having the latest and greatest, should I wait a little while? Love your videos!
Backpacks i stop using them because they hurt my back that one you use is made in Vietnam good company I’ve tried them but still sore back and sweaty.. i did find only thing i can use is a vest style backpack so far really good but i dont use much weight in them just bits and bobs like mini inreach wallet etc
Rryan--Loved the vid. Good to know for the future. I love the Showers Pass Rain Jacket. It's my favorite color. At some point, I'll get one, although at $295, they're insanely pricey. As for handlebar grips, have you tried the new Rev Grips Pro Series Ergonomic Grip System? My hands go numb alot, so these will be the next ones I get, even for my road bike. They're supposed to absorb vibration better. Apparently, there is a gap better the main sleeve and the bar, giving a floaty feeling. They're advertised at $121, but I've seen them around at $89.95. I've got to do something. People keep seeing me around town shaking my hands out at lights! Thought I'd just pass the this latest tech info on.
Thanks, for the Vid, Van. I don’t know how you do it but you carry a lot of stuff but it doesn’t look like it. I, on the other hand, carry 4 panniers plus a bag on top of my front rack and a bag on top of my rear rack - all added up that’s a total of 6 frigin’ bags. So, I’ve watched 2 different gear videos staring you, and although you don’t appear to be packing much you are carrying all the essential stuff. Also, I don’t carry any camera equipment, zero. I do however carry a little sit stool and a little sit pad ‘cause I’am a lot older than you and I really need to sit at the end of the day because I feel like I’am about to die. So, I carry the same sleeping pad that you use, cook kit ( compact and nesting), bivy bag, rain gear, light jacket, wind breaker jacket, same as you, arm sleeves and buff, same as you. You have a frame bag, some handle bar bags, several water bottles, maybe a small bag on your rear rack. You carry a lot, as I said, but it’s not bulky. I guess I need to see how you pack it.
Maybe you can talk Priority to moving at least part of their operations out west. How can you be effective at designing trail and mountain bikes in NYC? Just a thought.
You're the best, Ryan! I've watched ALL your videos. I'm concerned for your safety. Why don't you use a red blinky light when you're biking the highways? No whammies! ❤❤❤❤
Hi Ryan! You inspire with your films! You inspired me too :) Great job! I admire you very much and wish you good health and many unforgettable adventures :) And by the way, I'll ask, how do you transport electronic equipment, a camera and a drone when you don't have a backpack? I am asking about the safety of equipment in more difficult terrain. Thank you in advance for your answer and best regards from Norway 🤘🇳🇴🚲
The best bike for backpacking!. My one ( when I get it eventually) will be a 29+ bike with a rohllof. For now I have a nukeproof giga 297 for shredding 👌
Aesome bike setup and I have the same bike and I love it and have you tried the peddling Innovation pedals which are my favorite comfortable and most powerful paddles that I've tried on a bike setup
Peddling innovations petals - are a game changer for me and they use your whole foot and they are so comfy and you can wear your own comfortable shoes and I use a strap on my mind and I paid off over 100 miles of no pain

Hello Ryan. I'm planing to do a 3 months biking and is looking into tent. You use Nemo Dragonfly Osmo Bikepack 2-Person, but I'm looking at Big Agnes Fly Creek HV UL2 Bikepack Solution (think you have had a Big Agnes). I guess you think Nemo is the better choise, but why? Like to watch your trip and really liked the one in Sweden as I'm living there.
I also carry a hooded puffer jacket year around. It is the hood on my quilt. More people die from Hypothermia in the Spring and summer than in the winter. For the past year I have worn Alpaca socks which I buy from my local Alpaca farmer They come in four weights from light to thick, they never smell, have a wild thermal range. warm when wet and squeeze almost dry. I Good review.
I prefer flat pedals because I don't have to be in cycling shoe that I don't want to wear at workplace. Though I think you should try bar ends for flat bars someday. Thoroughly enjoy my barends because they let me ride for longer comfortably.
Loved the gear review. I have the Aero racks , like em but preferred there prior version with their twist on and off bags. Also you have to manipulate the rack bars to fit your rear fork. That means bend into place. deforms the shape of the rack. One thing you did not mentions which i wanted to hear more about is your T-shirt. Mira. How is she doing and where did you get the T shirt?😊.
The Osprey Syncro 20 is a even better design@@duzer. This is because it sits away from spine, so you don't get a sweaty back. And if you have iced drink in bladder, then you get a cool air pocket on your back on a hot day. Not so applicable when wild camping though. 😄 It's so comfy , I once panicked and thought I'd left it behind when I was actually wearing it, and with some hefty kit inside it. I also use it as an ultralight camera bag for my kit when doing more outdoorsy stuff, when say walking up a volcano to do some shooting.
Tried the hydration backpack when I first got into riding. Didn't enjoy the extra weight (bag and sweat) even on short rides. I might try the frame hydration bag someday but sticking to bottles for now.
Always used to use an Osprey (Raptor) ive had to ditch it for biking due to a shoulder injury, its just too painful to ride wearing it. Ive taken to using a Dakine Hotlaps with a 2l bladder. Not as convenient & carries less but needs must.
You switched from furry dead cat wind muffs to foam. Does the foam work as well as the furry for wind noise mitigation? Where did you find the foam version or is that something you McGyvered? I can't seem to find them on Amazon... The furry ones sometimes get into the video, so I can see where foam might be a bit better... Thanks for the video Ryan!
Did you say what device(s) you use to protect your bike when you're on a tour? I'm new to your channel so you may have already covered this topic somewhere?
Hello Ryan. question about travel gear. In the beginning of your Sweden adventure you had a roll =able or packable backpack that you used for air travel. I like the idea of getting one for my commuting as often times I don't want bike bags or lights to stay on the bike while it's on a bus or train rack or locked up outside when I'm commuting. Which one have you used and would you recommend it?
I hope you have all your gear/bikes added to your homeowners/renters insurance policy. If anyone ever broke into your garage the out of pocket cost to replace all your gear/bikes would be insane if they weren't insured.
Hi Ryan. Loved you Sweden Tour. Since you have Ridden the GDMBR how many times does it cross, if not share its path with The Divide hiking route. I know it does atleast once as per one of your videos, but is this common or rare. Thx. Steve Toronto.

You have a frame bag, some handle bar bags, several water bottles, maybe a small bag on your rear rack. You carry a lot, as I said, but it’s not bulky. I guess I need to see how you pack it.
I actually made a video about how I pack…

Maybe you can talk Priority to moving at least part of their operations out west. How can you be effective at designing trail and mountain bikes in NYC? Just a thought.
I want them all to move to Boulder!! 😂😂
You're the best, Ryan! I've watched ALL your videos. I'm concerned for your safety. Why don't you use a red blinky light when you're biking the highways? No whammies! ❤❤❤❤
I actually do have a rear blinky, totally forgot to mention that…and I mostly stay away from paved roads on my tours these days.
That’s a sweet bike
Excellent presentation!
I'm hooked!
Awesome, thank you!
"clickity clackety around town" ...haha Love this video so so well done quick and to the point just like that clickety clack ;)
😂😂 Glad you enjoyed it, I had fun making this one
I have serious garage envy. Are those a couple of unicycles I see in the back corner? Bust 'em out and show us your skills.
They are!! I’ll make a unicycle video someday
I left my unicycle with my old clown troop in Guatemala. I wonder where it is now.
Great products Duzer love your channel
Thanks!!
Thank you Ryan! You are the most awesome!!
You rock!
Can you put fenders on the 600x?
Wonder if a dynamo could replace the Anker.
In my experience, a dynamo doesn’t produce enough power to keep all my electronics charged, not even close actually
All the best stuff, presented by the best dude. 👍 Great information. I didn't know that you owned your previous apartment!
I did indeed own it…it was part of the affordable housing program, very grateful for it
Aesome bike setup and I have the same bike and I love it and have you tried the peddling Innovation pedals which are my favorite comfortable and most powerful paddles that I've tried on a bike setup
I haven’t, I’ll take a look at those pedals
I like the Nemo better simply because it’s bigger. The big Agnes is also very nice!
I'm hoping for a tour of your garage. You could call it MTB Cribs.
Ha!! Maybe someday
I'll look into Alpaca, sounds amazing!
I prefer flat pedals because I don't have to be in cycling shoe that I don't want to wear at workplace. Though I think you should try bar ends for flat bars someday. Thoroughly enjoy my barends because they let me ride for longer comfortably.
That’s why I love flat pedals!
Mira and John are doing great! You can get Mira merch here: mira-la-perra.creator-spring.com/?
The Osprey hydration pack is the Raptor 14l.
Yep
The Osprey Syncro 20 is a even better design@@duzer. This is because it sits away from spine, so you don't get a sweaty back. And if you have iced drink in bladder, then you get a cool air pocket on your back on a hot day. Not so applicable when wild camping though. 😄
It's so comfy , I once panicked and thought I'd left it behind when I was actually wearing it, and with some hefty kit inside it.
I also use it as an ultralight camera bag for my kit when doing more outdoorsy stuff, when say walking up a volcano to do some shooting.
Tried the hydration backpack when I first got into riding. Didn't enjoy the extra weight (bag and sweat) even on short rides. I might try the frame hydration bag someday but sticking to bottles for now.
added a few of these items to my list. most importantly your book!
Awwww thanks!! I hope that you enjoy it
Always used to use an Osprey (Raptor) ive had to ditch it for biking due to a shoulder injury, its just too painful to ride wearing it. Ive taken to using a Dakine Hotlaps with a 2l bladder. Not as convenient & carries less but needs must.
Sorry to hear about your shoulder :(
@@duzer no worries man. Big crash, not paying attention on a trail I've ridden heaps 🤷🏻♂️
Do you have a video on stretches or other pre and post bike ride things you do?
I don't, but I should do that!
Please do!
I also thought that bolt on is the solution but finagling the wrench in the frame bag trying to tighten the screw is pretty annoying.
So annoying!! Haha. Sometimes, simpler is better
wow very interesting experience friend
Ryan, you sized down to a medium when you repurchased the 600x, correct??
Yep! Medium fits me perfectly
I've got a mix on there. furry and foam. For the foam, I cut a foam lav cover in two pieces and glued it on.
Did you say what device(s) you use to protect your bike when you're on a tour? I'm new to your channel so you may have already covered this topic somewhere?
I don't bring a lock when I'm on tour, I put my trust in humanity :)
What size do yo u wear in the Apex shirt and Eleven Pine shorts?
Mediums on both
Hello Ryan. question about travel gear.
Mine is made by a company called Matador, but Sea to Summit makes similar packable backpacks
Do you recommend wearing biking shoes at RAGBRAI? I heard they are not comfortable to walk around in.
I wear sandals, you want comfortable shoes
Can you share a link to the sandals you wore for RAGBRAI, please.
Thank you so much Ryan. Very interresting.🎉 Have a Good day. 🙂🚲🇨🇦
My pleasure!
How do I get the shirt you are wearing?
mira-la-perra.creator-spring.com
I ran out of space like half way through the video, how do you have room for so much stuff?!
wow. Ryan. Sleeping in a garage is interesting solution. :-) Kudos man.
😂😂
Pump and co2 cartridge? Definitely a good idea to have the pump, but if you have that why the cartridge?
The cartridge is for blasting air quickly into the tire so it seats onto the rim, for tubeless it’s very important.
Awesome video as always.
Any update on an audio book?!
I hope you have all your gear/bikes added to your homeowners/renters insurance policy.
If anyone ever broke into your garage the out of pocket cost to replace all your gear/bikes would be insane if they weren't insured.
I’ve got good homeowners insurance for this very reason!
Didn’t expect to see a sock puppetry show here 🤔😆😆. Looks like the balcony of the last place didn’t have enough space for all the bikes 🤷🏻♂️😆🤣😂
Come for the bike video, stay for the 2-bit puppet show 😂😂
Hi Ryan. Loved you Sweden Tour. Since you have Ridden the GDMBR how many times does it cross, if not share its path with The Divide hiking route. I know it does atleast once as per one of your videos, but is this common or rare. Thx. Steve Toronto.
It doesn’t cross with the actual CDT very often.
This was high energy, even by Duzer standards
I was having a good day when I filmed this :)
The Mira shirt ❤
It’s my fave
Love my bags from Kaiventures too! Sad to see them go. 😢
Me too :(
Great rundown, Ryan! I’m in the market for a cycling computer…was there anything major in your decision to move from Wahoo to Garmin? Thx! RAGBRAI 24!
My wahoo just quit working after only two years…so I wanted to try something different…we’ll see how the Garmin does
@@duzer Thx for the info! Merry Christmas, sir!
I really love the T-shirt too!! turn
My fave shirt
Great video [bzioooo].... LOL
Quick question... Your book, will it be available in digital version (aka ebook)?
Yes! Hopefully in about a month
Great video ,,thanks,,,Mas Frijoles por Favor,,😂😂😂
