As a retired cop with 31 yrs, the only suggestion I would add would be to add a pistol on ur side whenever searching with a shotgun. Then, if during the search, there’s ever a struggle over the shotgun, u can disengage and immediately revert to the pistol.

THIS! When I take carbine training we always train with a side arm and work transitions. My edc handgun rarely leaves my body so I have a set up where I can quickly and easily holster my side arm and get my rifle sling on. Dry practice is KEY (and free lol) I started running drills on opening and accessing my safe in total darkeness before my first gun was even in my possession then moved on to doing the same with holstering the handgun and grabbing rifle or shotgun quickly, quietly and efficiently. These can all be life savers once locked into muscle memory. One last thing is how you walk and move your feet! Step/ roll softly heel to toe and NEVER EVER EVER cross one leg over the other traveling sideways! A simple side to side step without your ankles/feet crossing will prevent any chance of getting tangled up, making more noise than necessary and God forbid tripping and giving away your location and tactical advantage. Train smart and stay safe guys!

One thing you should consider is a sling. Very important, unless you want to place your shotgun on the ground. Any two point sling, where you can even do an "African carry" or an "American carry" if you have to. Also, buy a case of 00 buck and look at your pattern at 10, 15, 20 and 25 yards. You don't want any fliers, take pictures if you have to. 00 buck can be inconsistent and vary by lot. So if you buy a case, then they will likely be the same. This is what I was told to me by Louis Awerbuck (RIP), who was once the chief rangemaster of the Gunsite Academy.

Nice. I did research and came up with nearly three same plan as you. I've got a Beretta 1301 Tactical. Extended tube with full length Briley m-lok handguard with a 2000 lumen light directly underneath on a quick release mount and a remote switch on the right side with the cable managed. Vickers sling mounted to the buttstock and two QD Mount locations on the left side of the handguard. Two Briley stage savers on the right side for specialty rounds and a Holosun HE510C-GR Open Reflex Sight. I'm working on customizing a velcro shell strip that will hold 6-8 rounds which can be easily swapped out when emptied.
The most important thing of all is practicing on loading a beast like the Beretta 1301T or the Benelli M4 because they will let loose rounds quicker than you realize. Lol

The first shotgun I fired was the Benelli M4 (M1014 USMC). I eventually bought 1 during the COVID era for 2200. Overall the money I spent adds up to over 3 grand. I eventually sold that shotgun and later bought an A300 Ultima Patrol. Out of the box that weapon is everything you want for a combat/home defense shotgun and for only 1 grand. I added a surefire x300u and an aimpoint acro p2. Still less money than a base Benelli M4. I know some are going to say that the 1301 and M4 have a better operating system. They’re absolutely right but we all know that most likely we won’t be able to outrun the gun. Save your money and get a better package deal. Or not and go spend the money for the Benelli M4 name and then stick it in the safe cause that gun ain’t going get used like it should.

It's weird when someone puts down such a nice piece of art to say they spent too much, so they sold it for less, then bought a cheaper gun. If you bought a gun to keep in a cabinet, you bought a trophy.
I bought the M4 for multiple reasons. I don't like glocks and think there are multiple flaws for why people like them. I don't like them, but if someone else does better shooting than i do, i can't explain to them why they shouldn't like them.
      To each they're own.

      Sorry, no.
P/P doesnt change any recoil, it just adds tension to the shooting system.
It is a flashy range technique but in the real world you will be doing other stuff with your 'push' hand, like opening doors, activating lights, holding a phone etc.
End of the day, action / reaction, recoil still travels into your body and is absorbed by mass and feet to floor traction
P/P just makes you tired faster.

In a hostage situation you have total control with the 12ga. They can't move without guaranteed getting killed and the police are coming. So the only way to escape alive is to release the hostage and leave immediately to work the police response time window. Unless there are 2 or more left, in which case you just disable one then go back to working on the one with the hostage.
Gotta tell them "leave the hostage now and I won't pursue. If you don't i guarantee you are NOT leaving alive."

I like the shotgun because it is scalable in terms of ammunition. 00, slugs etc. I like #4 police buck. 27 pellets at close range will get it done. All black, ambidextrous (top tang safety and bottom eject), five rounds of 2.75 and five more in a side saddle, 20" barrel, silver bead sight, light with pressure switch on the forearm. My sporting gun is also a 12-ga BPS, and having this guy work and feel just like it makes a lot of sense. The main argument that I see for 5.56 over 12 gauge is that 5.56 hollow points will fragment in drywall, whereas any 12 gauge load will overpenetrate multiple internal walls and remain lethal. Not to mention the extremely limited capacity with shotguns. Using shotguns for home defense is outdated, unless you have absolutely no other family in your house to worry about.

I use a SPAS-12 for home defense myself. lol
I did find that the folding stock interfered with my ability to mount any type of side saddle, so I keep a bandolier in the same place I store my shotgun. Plus, the pump mode makes it very easy to ghost load even when stored "cruiser ready", so I can shove 10 shells into the gun in total, which should be more than plenty to deal with any situation. The top folding stock also interferes with a red dot, but I found that a laser sight through the massive ghost rings on the SPAS-12 almost works like a pseudo red dot indoors. It's not useable that way outside, but indoors where the light isn't all that blinding even in summer and the walls in my house mean I can't lose track of the dot due to distance, it does work surprisingly well for a threat focused, "put dot on target and pull trigger" shooting style that red dots bring. And because it is a laser, I can also shoot from the hip with the stock folded if I'm in really tight spaces.
Though that's only with the iconic folding stock. If I had the fixed stock, I could easily put a velcro pad on the side to stick shotgun cards and there are even scope mounts existing for the SPAS-12 as well.
Otherwise, got a sling, got a large capacity (8 shells in the tube vs. 7), got a folding stock for maneuvering in close quarters if need be, got a light alongside my laser, got a sling, and it's reliable with the ammo I'm running through it. Even has a full heat shield which lets me C-clamp grip it in a way most shotguns can't do. It's actually really close to M-lok so I'm actually wondering if I could modify some M-lok accessories to make it work on the heat shield. Maybe I could get a heat shield mounted red dot very forward mounted. I know GIGN mounted lasers on the heat shield before.

Got a different opinion for those cloth shell carriers. A metal carrier is fixed to the gun and always in the same place. Those cloth carriers loosen so shells often fall out. The Velcro wears out fast depending on how much you change empty for loaded carriers. Metal carriers never wear out. I suggest getting the Mesa Tactical metal carrier.
Instead of a vertical fore grip. I use an angled attatchment. Which gives the off hand a more natural lay of the bones in the arm. No excessive bone rotation.
Everybody says their way or hit the highway. Generally speaking everybody has to find ways that work best for each individual. For a final note, pump actions rule, semi loaders drool in the shotgun world.
