1- Well done Rick very inspiring. 2- Well done Sarah for allowing Rick his moment when you probably wanted to strangle him for not sticking to the pace. 3-How funny was Jess cameo, legs moving rapid in Uggs whilst recording on her phone 😂
Best part was at the end seeing the two of you together and Rick's arm on Sarah's shoulder. Despite all the ribbing you two do, here it is, the truth. True affection. Now we take you back to regular scheduled programming.
Congratulations Rick! You’ve worked SO hard for years to be able to run again, let alone a sub 2 hr half. Amazing. And I totally didn’t cry while watching the entire video. Love, A Former Injured Runner Who Just Signed Up for Her First Race Since Injury ❤
Wow! I remember when you got to know the real depth of your injury as if it was yesterday 😮 That's really inspirational! Hope you keep pushing and staying true to your love for the sport, enjoying every step ahead! All love from Brasil!
0:52 and I have to comment already. Rick, having watched your injury on the historical stairs, your despair after the surgeries, moving first kilometer, and then the onslaught of records, I cheer you on. Run, Rick, run. You have earned this.
I have genuinely been hanging out for this video.... Congrats Rick 🎉🎉🎉 (and Sarah for keeping up just a week after her own half effort!) 😊 As someone who is having ankle surgery next month and has been told by some Doctors that I may never run or play sport again I take real hope from Rick's journey. My surgeon said he never limits the expectations of his patients after surgery- if he does his job, the surgery goes well and I do my rehabilitation work who's to say what I can and can't do. Rick is the living testament of this. I am uplifted by watching him come back and smash these goals ❤ Get that man a Gavi 🥂
What a smashing comeback from injury. I just finished a half at 2:39 and I am so happy to have completed it. You and Sarah are such an inspiration, that was incredible
Congrats Andy! I was certain from the training you mentioned in the podcast you could break 2hrs, so I'm happy you didn't sell yourself short on the day and went for it!
The cool thing about running is that I find myself rooting for you (and Sarah, Jess and Andy) just as much as I do for my running heroes such as Sifan Hassan, David Roche, Courtney Dauwalter and Scott Jurek. You've done a great job!
Ah rick, absolutely Inspirational, as someone who is coming off an 18 month Injury and signed up for a half marathon in April 2025, everytime I'm struggling with training I am going to watch the video. Tears in my eyes. A true inspiration to us all.
What a legend!!! Congratulations Rick for a mammoth effort and for bringing me to tears with your come back! I loved what you said at the end about pushing yourself to do things you didn't think you could ever do, what I needed to hear. Shout out to Sarah for an amazing support/friend/sort-of-pacer (speedy Rick doing his own pacing duties) and motivator! What a great duo!
Wow, what an uplifting Rick-covery! Such a journey you’ve had! Also Jess’ cheering put such a big smile on my face and what on earth are those shoes she’s running in?!? 😂
RICK or James (you 2 look so much alike) LOL!, that was incredible, you SMASHED IT. Rick, when I think of my current running injuries, they are so far from the severity of what you've over come I feel embarrassed to not be back on the road. Please take a deep dive into your race experience on the podcast!
Something about the music swelling, the triumphant notes and the people smiling that made me tear up here. Well done everyone! I'm running my first ever half in less than a week and I hope to crush it like y'all did!
I don't know if your previous half pb was faster. But as a runner as a presenter. You are absolutely inspiring. Running to an extent is about beating times and going faster but what is more real than anything else is how vulnerable it is for you to advertise your pace your heart rate and your finishing time to the world. I appreciate the bravery. All of us who run in endurance sport are on a journey. Sharing it is something that anxiety inducing especially if youre not even close to elite mileage or paces. Rick you were absolutely rapid abandoning your 2:05 and chasing 1:53. Properly exposing your fears and fighting against them for the viewers to see is absolutely inspiring. 💪💪💪
Well done Rick... Clearly shows that NO ONE can stop you... Also props to Sarah for being the cheerful bubbly friend to keep you motivated while also running her own race! Bless her for keeping you in the hunt and then absolutely smashing the 2-hour mark! 😃🙌🏽🔥🔥🔥👏🏽
Can I just give HUGE praise for something it took me a while to notice. The adverts on this channel are usually short, presumably arranged as they are often for just one brand and so much less annoying and intrusive than other channels. I’ve don’t know how you’re achieving this, but love it. This is a favourite channel for me and this just adds more to my love for it.
Another emotional watch, we've all been following your injury and road to recovery. So inspiring to see you out there absolutely crushing a half marathon with Sarah by your side. Huge congratulations 🏆
Followed your story right through from the injury onwards. What a beautiful way to end this recovery era. You are a top bloke. Congratulations. Hope you are proud of your achievement.
OKAY EDITORS!!! Y’all have really stepped it up this year and it SHOWS. Well done!! Well done Rick!! What an accomplishment!!! You’re such an inspiration for all of us overcoming injuries! Can’t wait to see what’s next!
I felt so emotional watching the end mile, how Rick pushed himself to the finish line despite being in excruciating pain. Very inspirational, indeed. Congratulations to both Rick and Sarah! 😊
Rick! It's hard to believe its been five years! You smashed it. I changed to Asics after an injury and it worked so well for me. Cheers for more halves!
I'm definitely gonna borrow Rick's motto for my first marathon. 1st half: The faster you run, the quicker you finish 2nd half: Slow and steady wins the race
incredible comeback rick, i get so emotional watching these videos. like a lot of us we all know that PB and personal achievment feeling and what it means. its the stuff that people dont see. early mornings, late nights, double days, increasing volume, increasing speed, pushing oursleves.
Well done Rick! You’re so right about mind over matter. I did my first half at the great Scottish run earlier this month and had so many points where I wanted to stop but pushed through. A battle between body and brain the whole second half. What a feeling at the end though. To do it after a knee op like that makes it even more impressive !! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Congratulations Rick! I appreciate you sharing your story, it is very inspiring and this video is so uplifting. I’m working through an Achilles injury and an unable to run right now. Your story gives me hope that I will be able to run again in the future and achieve my goals/dreams. Congrats again!
Well done, Rick! You are an inspiration! Despite all you post-injury hardships, you’ve maintained such a great humor and perspective on your journey. Thank you for sharing!
Congratulations, Rick. I was surprised to not see you wearing a protecting running knee brace or a strap. Speaking as an arthritic runner, that took a lot of courage. Super job!
Fantastic effort Rick. You are all such an inspiration. Without you all, I might not have been able to finish my 1st marathon a couple of weeks ago. I look forward to your next milestone, post surgery.
That was super emotional 🥹 Well done Rick! I’m so happy for you. I remember watching your videos on your knee surgery, to your recovery, to your first kilometre run and beyond. A great inspiration for us all.
I just watched, and I couldn't help but cry with tears of joy as I saw you run! This is beyond inspiring for me, especially as I'm currently struggling with hip impingement (FAI) and have had to put running on hold to focus on hip muscle strengthening exercises. You've given me double the strength and motivation for my preparation for the London Landmarks Half Marathon in April. Thank you both so much, Rick and Sarah!
Do we get to take the mick out of Sarah's pacing here too?? 😂😂 Congratulations to you Rick 🎉🎉🎉 Got my own Half Marathon PB on that day, but 1 hour slower than you. . . We all got this 💪🏻
One of the things I love about watching TRC is how supportive everyone is of each other. From pacing to cheering each other on. Earlier this month I finished my first half in almost 12 years. My finish felt way less majestic and I was crying before I even finished. Official time for me was 3:50:53. I need to stop watching ya'll for awhile because now I want to go back next year and beat my time.
Way to go Rick! You can physically see the difference the half marathon training has made on you. You look fit, like a proper runner. Would love to see you pace Sarah to a new PB one day. I think her pure anger at your pace got her through the fuelling tradgedy that would probably have laid out most runners 😂
I’ve more invested in this journey, than those kms across continents. You are the embodiment of Kia kaha ( being strong/ steadfast), Rick. Much aroha from Aotearoa NZ
Well done Rick! You made me happy cry! This is so inspiring for me as someone with EDS who has to be very careful with my training to prevent injuries. Not sure I'll ever make a half marathon, but you give me hope I can keep achieving the goals I set.
First marathon in three weeks for me! I was looking forward to this video so much! Go on, Rick! I also set my own unofficial half PB during my long run Saturday. Only 30 minutes behind Rick ;)
All I do is cry on this channel I swear to god 😭 I'm on my own comeback-from-injuries journey (10 years in the making) so this is immensely inspiring to me. Congrats, Rick! You did that.
Yes Rick! Been here through the journey. So amazing to see you back!!! As someone who's also come back from major knee surgery I know how damn difficult your journey must've been. So happy for you!!
Well done, Rick! This achievement of yours made me teary eyed as I am also still recovering from an injury and waiting for my doctor’s clearance for me to run again.
Well done fella! That is an incredible result. You started off really good and just kept cranking it up. Well done for backing yourself especially in the middle section when you could have talked yourself out of it. Today was your day to make up for some of those that you lost. You are still owed so back yourself and do another challenge in the spring!
Amazing James, Well done! 3 years ago I completely tore my ACL… I didn’t have surgery (which I regret now, but went with the consultants advise at the time) and was able to do my first 10k race two weeks. Never been the quicker runner, I was pleased with my time (managed a post injury 5km PB in the first half - did make the second 5km a tad tricky…).
Well done James!
😂
Dang i was gunna comment that. Hahaha
Hahaha well played
Love it. Well done Rick!!
😂😂
1- Well done Rick very inspiring.
2- Well done Sarah for allowing Rick his moment when you probably wanted to strangle him for not sticking to the pace.
3-How funny was Jess cameo, legs moving rapid in Uggs whilst recording on her phone 😂
Judging from Rick’s comments about not being able to feel his toes, Uggs might have been the right choice. 🥶
The way I was so worried for Jess running in those uggs hopping up and down the curb
Jess in Uggs and arctic-level winter jacket was hilarious! 🤣
Best part was at the end seeing the two of you together and Rick's arm on Sarah's shoulder. Despite all the ribbing you two do, here it is, the truth. True affection. Now we take you back to regular scheduled programming.
Well done Sarah, you did a great job keeping up with Rick! 😂

Thank you so much! It was definitely a labour of love 😅
Good luck to you in your recovery and first race!! I'm sure that whatever goals you have, you will smash them
@@fat_vegan_slim Thanks!
The course looked much flatter than north London!!
I just ran a 2:13:46 yesterday. It was my first ever 1/2 marathon at aged 60.
Beats my first one at age 32, great effort!
Congrats!!
Wow. I've done my last hm 40 years ago. 😅 I am still running, but 21km... No thanks. 😶
Congrats!
I did 2.21 three weeks ago, age 71, same as my first ever half when I was 30. Not sure I can go much faster though!
While I was watching this my daughter asked me "Mummy? Sad tears or happy tears?". The answer : Happy tears for Rick. Well done, so amazing!
Rick, Rick, Rick!!! You and Sarah are a perfect big brother/little sister dynamic. The sky is the limit for you now.
Wow! I remember when you got to know the real depth of your injury as if it was yesterday 😮
That's really inspirational! Hope you keep pushing and staying true to your love for the sport, enjoying every step ahead!

Congrats Rick! Such an inspirational return!
Shout out to Jess running along in her slippers!
Congrats for the fastest 5 over 2 hours of all time, and specially for the whole recovery.
You are overtaking people in nearly every shot! Well done
Thank you!!!
I have genuinely been hanging out for this video.... Congrats Rick 🎉🎉🎉 (and Sarah for keeping up just a week after her own half effort!) 😊

"Is that alcoholic?" Proceeds to be disappointed with the answer 🤣 Great job by the way, this is hell of inspiring
That was hilarious! 😂
Can hear myself on the mic at around 13:00 😂 Sad I missed giving you a shoutout! Well done guys 🎉
What a smashing comeback from injury. I just finished a half at 2:39 and I am so happy to have completed it. You and Sarah are such an inspiration, that was incredible
