    I just changed my string this way. I was trying to come up with some crazy way to press it because my BOWMASTER portable bow press won't work. Then I thought of something like this. Your video didn't give me the idea to do it, instead it gave me the confidence to do it. Thanks

    Thanks man, just put a string on my bow while watching your video. Super easy took 5 minutes.

    Thought i would have to get the string replaced by the archery shop, but the screwdriver trick worked for my Preditor crossbow. Saved me $30. I used screwdrivers on both sides, just to be sure, but string is on and i'm ready to hunt. Thanks

    FYI, a version of this method worked like a charm on my Barnett HyperGhost 425, saving me over an hour of driving and whatever the lames at Bass Pro Shop would charge just to prolly F things up worse.

    just tried this on my bear x kronicle 185lb draw weight. worked great. only time youll need a bow press is if you wait to long to change your string and it snaps, or it just snaps.

    Thanks man. I just tried it myself. I'll admit I am a bit nervous doing it, but it will save me a lot of time and money in the future. I just started hunting with a crossbow this year since I spent 3 months out of work last year from shooting my compound. I am a far better shot with a compound, but the crossbow keeps me archery hunting. poundage too low for my liking to hunt. My "BOWMASTER" portable bow press served me for years but I cannot adjust it enough to press my crossbow.

      KGB2101 I wouldn't be afraid to use my BOWMASTER if it would be long enough. I have the split limb adapters. But since this lockout method works so well I have no desire to even try it. Companies will ALWAYS SAY "NO" to just about anything you ask them, particularly if their calls are being recorded. If you called the tool manufacturer and asked them if it was safe to use their screwdriver to lock out a crossbow, they would tell you, "absolutely not". It is the litigious society our politicians, the people who elect them, and the courts have created. Good luck with this lockout method, which I guarantee CROSSMAN® would advise you not to do also. It is really great if you have 2 people to do it, but I pulled it off multiple times now myself. It doesn't take much press to listen everything up. I was quite surprised.

    Can I not undo the limbs a little to change just the string and then just tighten them back down? I have a dagger 390 . Thanks.

    Archers have been using the "screwdriver method" ever since the compounds first came out. And sure, the manufacturers do not recommend it. And I am not a big fan of it for some bows as the cams are being made thinner and thinner all the time. But if you are careful this will work in a pinch. I will still prefer to use my bow press, but I am aware that not everyone has one available. And when hunting season is underway, good luck with getting it looked at by a shop anytime soon as they are SLAMMED this time of year.

    THIS IS AWSOME! just have a couple questions and it would also be awsome if you answered them for me:) 1: do you think this could work on a pse fang crossbow? 2: do you need a certain type of tool for it to hold all that draw weight? or what tool did you use? thank you

    Any tips on how to re-string if you break your string? Cables are fine but I'm guessing I need a press now to get new string on?.Great video,thanks

    I have the Centerpoint Sniper 370 and I would rather replace the strings myself, if it's safe to do so without breaking the thing.

    I'm kinda new with this specific crossbow. Had 2 kills which were rabbits, good eatin, just behind the shoulder. Done a lot of shooting with it. But time to change the main string that wraps around both the cams. Does this method work for changing the main string/cable that launches the bolt? That's the only one I need changed the other 2 strings are in great condition

  • @josemercado8309

    Cannot change cables on the sniper xt 390 in this manner do to the cable slide one needs a bow press. But it will work on my Barnett expedition 350 thank for the video.

      kinda new to this, but, couldnt you take the riser off the body, remove cable slide, and then reinstall to perform camlock and change cables?

    i mean this video is already pretty old but I will ask anyway. Can I exchange also the cables with this method? Is there a way to exchange the cams at home if they are damaged or do i have to send the bow in

  • @Gottaculat
    @Gottaculat 6 років тому +1

    This just saved me a lot of time and money. Here I thought I needed a pro shop to change the cables.
    Assuming this works for the Gladiator 405, which has a 200# draw.
    Edit:
    Doesn't work with Gladiator 405. At least not with one person, unless you can hold 100 pounds of weight narrowly focused across your fingers on one hand for at least 5 seconds.

    My Centerpoint Sniper 370 just arrived today, and I was wondering where you buy replacement strings and cables for it? Crossman doesn't seem to sell them from their site, nor does Cabela's. I guess it's a standard size though. Btw the owners manual says to take it to a shop because you need a press and experience to change them but this method looks like it would work fine in the field.

    It's funny how people buy these cool-looking, Chinese-made, ”feature-rich” crossbows at such great prices and are then surprised by their shoddy reliability and poor quality. There is a reason that premium bows from the likes of mission, tenpoint, and Excalibur command higher prices and why these companies are able to provide a lifetime warranty. Americans favour and insist that products they purchase are ”made in the USA”, yet they are always unimpressed with domestically produced, high-end crossbows because they think that their $300 centre point can do everything just as well 🤷‍♂️

    • @keithpierson5754
      @keithpierson5754 3 роки тому +1

      My centerpoint has lasted longer than my last Parker who's lifetime warranty expired with the company a few months before my limb splintered. The Parker cost 3x what my centerpoint cost and honestly the centerpoint is heavier and a little wider but more accurate and faster.

    • @lonniechartrand
      @lonniechartrand 3 роки тому +3

      Really? I have read as many OR MORE reports of issues with the "premium bows" that you mention. And I am not too sure that some of the bows you mention are actually "made in the USA". Maybe ASSEMBLED in the USA, but MADE? Not knocking the high end bows, but my "cool-looking, Chinese-made, ”feature-rich” crossbow" has served me very well and is JUST AS ACCURATE, and JUST AS FAST, as the "premium bows. I own several "premium bows", and have my own shop so I am well aware of what is out there. Sure, I would LOVE to own a Ravin, or Tenpoint, but not at a price that is eight times more than my 370 Sniper. The only thing I don't like about the Sniper is the trigger creep. Outside of that it is a killing machine.

      @@lonniechartrand It seems like the higher speed bows break more stuff. There appears to be an increase in snapping strings, delaminating and snapping limbs, etc with higher speeds and more energy. Doesn't seem worth it for 30-50 more fps to me.

    • @reallife2849
      @reallife2849 Рік тому +1

      @@keithpierson5754 new bows like Barnett hypertac 420 have built in limb dampeners , rail lube in my experience keeps friction heat off the string and serving as a lot of downward force on string is applied during cocking . all my bows rated for 400 fps and over show new strings and cables stretch and settle in around the first 6 - 12 shots , need to field time bow cams immediately , first 6 shots on my hypertac took the Finnish off one side of the barrel , groved the bolts and knocks , knock point was 1/8 inch off to the right side of the barrel when completely fired , sad part my 1000 dollar bows have no cam timing Marks and the Taiwan killer instinct does and shoots 2” groups at 50 yards easily with fast field timing . bow shops usually never stretch the new cables and strings then do alignment adjustments before selling them . Save limbs by keeping cams in sync and axle to axle measurements true and immediately if you notice vibration . Crossbows have recoil , holding the bow snug to your shoulder improves performance and longevity of your limbs because bounce is never good . To be honest every compound bow should come with a gauge to inspect cam timing and axle to axle without have the bow in full draw position IMO . Care needs to be taken to not overtighten cables and strings as to pulling in limbs beyond axle to axle measurements at full draw resting on trigger.
