This is why I like react channels on youtube, they remind me of songs I've forgotten.
Just heard this song in the trailer for the new Guardians movie trailer. Asked my younger friend and he had no idea what it was.
Totally
I swear I’m still in the 90s. Rocking out to this one on the regular 😊
Word
@@rosshoppus333 well thank goodness it’s introducing you to some staples and lost gems.
The piano at the end was actually part of the song. This song takes me back to being a freshman in high school.
The song isn't complete without the end. Criminal to cut that shit off.
Damn I know it was a good outro nd they just cut it off. Of course, it was Brads doing bc he wasn't feelin it unless it was Bjork or Alanis.
He loves humanity, humankind, our planet. Not just nature. This is a fantastic song and I'm so glad you listen to this, I still have my CD of space hog.
One of my all time favorites, love the 90s.
me too...90s rocked
Don't think I've heard this SINCE the 90s.
This is sampled in the new guardians of the Galaxy movie trailer
I was there in the 90's. Good time, but the 80's were SOOOOO much better.
@@bassage13you the 80s we’re good but you gotta give credit to the 90s it was pretty awesome
This singer is laying down an AMAZING bass line. While singing. I can't comprehend how they do that.
This 💯
I literally forget how to speak every time I try singing and playing. So, to play that bass line and sing over it is insane.
@@machintosh3008 it takes a lot and i mean _a lot_ of practice. I advise practicing humming before worrying about any lyrics
This is one of the best songs of its decade and so much later it still holds up the funk on that bass is sick
I love the bassline, one of my all-time favorites, but it's actually not a hard bass part at all. I'm a drummer, have literally zero training on bass guitar and figured out how to play it in a few minutes. So a well-seasoned trained veteran on bass whose been playing for many years, singing over the top of that ain't no biggie.
It was not over, that piano part is part of it.
Big David Bowie vibe going on throughout this song.
Ziggy era Bowie with Mick Ronson on Guitar 🎸
Also faith no more/mr bungle.
Good call!😉🫠✌️
He is touring with the Bowie tribute band. Royston stole the show, legitimately a great show to see. Will be seeing it 2x in 6 months in May.
I never thought even thought of that, but after reading your comment, you’re totally right. There is a Bowie vibe to this
This song is getting justice with the soon release of Gaurdians of the Galaxy 3 movie!
Noooooooo, it wasn't over. Hear it to the end!
piano bit at the end is part of the song. it's a tonal shift but it's a beautiful piano part.
Definitely some epic bass guitar work done on this song. It's an awesome tune.
The Bass on this song is pure orgasm
No, it wasn’t over, that’s the outtro
Thank you lol. I was like nooo lol, but still a super fun reaction:)
Resident Alien, the album this cut is from, is an absolutely great album from start to finish and is definitely a trip and not a bunch of songs that sound the same. One of the, low key, best albums of the 90's.
Spacehog deserved a better fate.
It's true. For anyone looking to sample other tracks, I recommend Cruel to Be Kind and Space Is the Place.
Agreed! Love this band. But when the first song of your first album is THIS, it's hard to match, much less top, that.
“Carey On” from the Chinese Album was fantastic. Great video too.
Loved this album back in HS.
One of my all-time favorite bands! From my first discovery, till today. Most underappreciated band of all. I was hoping someone would do a reaction. Keep it up.
I heard this song only once in passing in the nineties and the chorus got stuck in my head for decades without me ever knowing what the name of the band or song was. Only found out a couple of years ago.
I have not heard Spacehog in a long time! They were very underrated IMO.
Totally
Love this Song. Always had a Ziggy Stardust era Vibe with David Bowie’s Vocals & Mick Ronson’s Other Worldly Guitars
It was such a feel good song. Reminds me of driving home after school back in the day.
Brad with the early hook. Let that ending play lol. Great 90s classic. 🎸🎸🤘
Made me wanna smack him. Feeling cheated.
looove this song, that bass line is so tasty
The beginning of this song really brings me back to my early twenties. It doesn't hit me like it used to, but I do remember that feeling, even if I don't feel it the same way.
This is how the lead singer explained the lyrics: "It's using some kind of metaphor of a worldly or inner-worldly search for the end of isolation, and the acceptance of one's self is in there. At the end of the day it's saying whatever you gotta do, it's OK, it's alright. And I think that's also me talking to myself, getting through my wan anxieties and fear of death. That's what it all comes down to."
Finally, someone answered what the lyrics were about to Brad lol
I think this song plays in the next “Guardians” movie. Or at least the trailer. Slow and all but I think it’s there. I immediately recognized it. Asked my friend sitting next to me and then I realized I’m old.
In my 20s when the song came out, I totally understood it. Of course, we were stoned the whole time.
One of the best one hit wonders of the 90s
if you think that you didnt listen to the whole album.
Bass is so adventurous in this. Love this song.
Youre going down the 90s rabbit hole to find this gem.i live here🙂
Every board operator in 1990s talk radio used the opening of this song as bumper music.
Love this one... always turn it up. That bass.....
Finally ! You came across the hog ! One of the most underrated bands in rock history! Spacehog has so many gems. Especially the lead singer royston langdon, who I had the honor of seeing one of his shows, and blessed with a few photos for nostalgic purposes. Please do more by this awesome band. Thanks Brad and Lex!
Piano ending was a part of the song!
Bought the album because of this song...That's what a good song can do ❤
This is one of the best 90's tunes ever!!!
This was a good one! I remember this from around '96ish , iirc
Watch the actual music video later! This was a big hit back in the mid-late '90s. Spagehog was '70s/'80s/early '90s glam rock/hair rock influenced (Bowie, Queen, T-Rex, Poison, Mott the Hopple, Sweet, Bon Jovi, etc) mixed with alt rock. Bands like them are Better Than Ezra, Toadies, Everclear, etc.
Spacehog was a '90s and early '00s band. Check out "Cruel to Be Kind", "Candyman", "Mungo City", "At Least I Got Laid", "Carry On", "I Want to Live".
Dear Lord finally!!!! Thanks guys🛸🐷
Love seeing Lex groove on this.
I'd venture this is about how we're all one entity, fragments of the universal whole that have been split off to experience the physical reality, and the goal is love, which is really all there is.
Loved this since it came out back in '95. Recorded the video off of MuchMusic on my VCR, then picked it up later from BearShare. Now it's on UA-cam for all to see.
Aside from the fact that we're all doomed, we really do live in a Golden Age. 😉😋
I think your take on the lyrics is really good. I'd just add in the meantime, we're all just folks on this earth, deserving of love so he's gonna show love to everyone and everything.
I love the official video too. It says a lot.
LOVE this song. It is such a unique vibe while still being super catchy.
One of my favorite tunes from the ‘90s. I would crank this one up every time it came on. Fond memories.
I'm glad you guys are checking out more 90's alternative songs! I am addicted to your channel!! Lol. Seriously you guys rock, no offense Brad but Lex's reactions and break downs are my favorite, you rock too though. Keep on keeping on ❤️
Loved this song when I was a kid. One of the best of 90’s alternative, definitely the sickest bass line of that time. Saw the lead singer/bass player, Royston Langdon, recently in a David Bowie tribute show, and they played this song. Finally realized just how much of a Bowie influence was in this song. No wonder I liked it so much 😅 Underrated album too…
Royston just performed with a bunch of singers and other musicians at a very cool Bowie tribute show. He was married to Liv Tyler for a bit. Todd Rundgren was part of it as well. Who was actually involved with Liv Tyler’s mom early in Liv’s life. Todd raised her as his own while Steven Tyler got himself clean. She didn’t know that Todd wasn’t her father till she was around 10.
Weird man. For the last month or so they've been playing a 90s playlist at my work and I couldn't for the life of me remember the name of this band or song and it was driving me crazy. I'd ask people, "Hey do you know who this song is by?", but my coworkers are mostly younger than me and had never heard it before. I kept trying to search for it by googling "90s hits" or "90s one hit wonders" but never found it Part of the problem is I could never quite hear it well enough to understand the lyrics. Finally yesterday I was like "Damn it, I've got to figure this out" so I got up and walked over nearer a speaker and finally made out "skies of blue" and "we're just like you", which was enough to finally find it in a Google search, and I was all like "Spacehog! Of course!" When this was a hit, you heard the name constantly, but I'm certain I haven't heard it again since. Or the song, until it started popping up on our work playlist. Then, the day after I finally solved the mystery, it pops up on your channel. Like I said, weird man.
Arguably one of the best rock tunes of the entire 1990's. Something bittersweet but hopeful about this one, esp amid the gloomy muck and mire of grunge, the plastic sameness of boy bands and puffery of diva and arena schlock still chugging along at the time.
This song was popular in the 90s. It's in the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie
I remember when this came out. This didnt sound like anything id ever heard. They really just burst out of nowhere with this track that has the energy of an anthem. I couldn't get enough of it. Haven't heard out for probably twenty years now.
One of my very favorite songs from the 90's, wicked bass.
A friend of mine who was a huge David Bowie fan (RIP Todd) introduced me to these guys/this song. I can definitely hear Bowie in the bridge, with "Okay, okay, it's not okay!".
He loves humanity, but we're not in Paradise yet, we're bearing up and moving on, and we put up with situations where we have to, but in the end we mean well and love everybody, and hope you feel the same way
Thanks, Brad and Lex, for doing this reaction video--I think your interpretations were spot on. This is in my top 5 songs of all time, and I play the bassline pretty much daily. This is one of the gems of 90s alternative, and it's still relevant.
royston's one of those rare finds: the lead singer/bass player. he plays so effortlessly, like a virtuoso would.
KEvron
God bless y'all for the QUICKEST intro, and being a truly enjoyable couple to watch. Watching y'all kids experience music I did, probably before y'all were even "gleams" is great, but also makes me feel as old as a turtle turd. Keep going y'all!!!
Spiritually evolved ET's talking humanity: We are just like you, went through the same evolution, we love for who you are. You'll get enlightened one day. In the meantime, just wait and see & live your life to the fullest.
Always thought it was a message to humanity from outer space. I remember the first time I heard this, came on while I was in my best friend's 83 Firebird, turning onto NY-9W southbound to see the girl I was seeing (or girls-plural who we both were dating?), October 1995 - first night it was played so it was 10/24 (I looked it up, I'm not entirely insane) - Bought the album because of this song, still play it sometimes
phuckin A man. I was just thinking it was 1995- couldn't remember the season. Now it makes sense. Fall of 95. Shit yeah.
This brings me back to my teenaged years in the 90's riding my skateboard with my walkman and huge headphones lol
No, the song was not over. That's a piano outtro.
I've never understood what he's talking about but this song rocks my socks off I've always LOVED it!!! you can totally jam out to it, I used to play it loud in the car!!! I will have to again for old time's sake!!!
Here is another interesting song from the same year as this one, 1994. Sponge " Plowed". This one still can put me back in a certain place in 1994. A good place.
Agreed.. Sponge.. "Plowed" or "Molly" are must do's, for reactions..
1994 was one of the best years for music 🎶 And I grew up in the 70s
This was one of the first songs to come out where you could see a ray of sunlight after the grunge clouds parted. I believe this is written from the point of view of aliens.
Glam-Grunge David Bowie meets Queen
Great band and beautiful constructed song 🎶🎶🎶
Not sure why but I absolutely loved this song from the first time I heard it back in the 90s! Great memories!
Part of this track was used in an advert in the UK in the 90s. That's how I discovered Spacehog. Very underrated band.
The intro is a sample of the Penguin Cafe Orchestra's "Telephone And Rubber Band" - it was used in a telecoms ad and probably elsewhere. P.C.O. are a little off the beaten track but you could try their "Music For A Found Harmonium"...
This was a concept album, earth thru the eyes of an Alien (Album was called Resident Alien)
This song rips! 🤘Love Spacehog
lol the keyboard was the end. What a cool song from the days of this gen-x guy.
One of the Best
The very beginning phone ringing is from a great 80s Australian movie called Malcolm. I came across that movie by accident and as soon as i heard it i was like hey i recognize that sound from Spacehog. Lol. Cool song.
I think Spacehog and the creators of Malcolm both took it from "Telephone and Rubber Band" by Penguin Cafe Orchestra.... but I'll have to check.
Yep, here you go: ua-cam.com/video/RWZ4pve5Mkc/v-deo.html
@@noroomforsquares4483 thx.
Song wasnt over
Love this song and pretty much the entire album
The phone buzzing is a loop from a song by Penquin Cafe Orchestra in the 80s.
Cool song. Singer went out with Liv Tyler back then. Mungo City was another good one by Spacehog 👍
I've always loved this band
This song - a remixed version - is being used in some Guardians of the Galaxy 3 promo ads.
This song brings me back to the 90s and some great times spent in that decade.
Thanks for this. Have practically gotten all of the lyrics wrong, lol.
It's always interesting to watch the contrast between them. I find Brad's usually analyzing the music, trying to understand the meaning and Lex ... she's just absorbing it and enjoying it to the fullest, getting consumed on how it makes her feel and going with the flow. Love watching both reactions equally, I think it explains most of us. Part of us sometimes wants to connect with the song, and other times we just want it to wash over us.
I thought it was about aliens talking about humans.
yes it was
Me too
The song is about life and death. I believe the lyricist has admitted he's terrified of death. It's about living life to the fullest and enjoying life on earth while you still have it. This was the song used on the Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 3 trailer because it mirrors the theme of the movie which is partly about the prospect of death. Not being afraid of it, but loving what we have in life and enjoying things "in the meantime". Lost my Dad last year and this song is very poignant right now as I reflect on my life and eventual death.
i was in my mid to late 20's when this came out. takes me back to a very formative time in my life that made me much of who i am today.
She was digging on it. The dude was a party pooper.
Love the bass guitar in this song
Yes! 🙌🏼
It's basically about the power of hope in one's life and that we are all basically the same. That we are all in the same boat, that regardless of the issues in our current lives.....that there is also beauty in the present and hope for the future. It reminds us that this is common to everybody, regardless of background, and in the end "all in all we're just like you" and we should all accept each other for simply the fact that we are all fellow human beings, sharing the same concepts of hope, despair, hardship and wonderment, and that we should all love and support each other, and stop dividing ourselves.
They FINALLY did Spacehog! 1 year at least
Just enjoy the JAM!
Diffinitely takes me back to a time and place there in the mid/late 90's where the radio music, even though I was a bit older than the "target audience" was really good for a few years. 👍🤘
Wow I haven't heard this in a long time!
Awesome review , fell in love and this song captifies it!
Dig it 😎💪🏻.. always
LOVE that bass line!!!
Blast from the past!!! Love it!
In the meantime, watch the official video and it will help with the meaning.
fr, look at his phenotype. the singer is a literal ayy living here on earth.
I've loved this song for 25 years? You're late to the party!
He's an alien, who loves humankind. The whole album is kind of a theme, like.. its a literal Spacehog alien. Its fantastic.
Awesome ✌️ song 🎵 you guys have a fabulous day 😀 😊
The piano bit at the end is part of the song, not the lyric video adding on ^^
This song gives me chills.
