Just test drove every small SUV/Crossover from $30-40k.... Went CX-5 Carbon Turbo AWD at $33,335..... SMOKED everything else in fit and finish, comfort, actually driving it, and anything else that mattered to me: Single dad, 41, 8 year old boy. This is a small SUV a man can drive and feel GOOD about while enjoying himself behind the wheel. Loves the video, btw!
The tech stuff is nice but it all boils down to how it runs and Mazdas are way better, quieter, more powerful. Better transmission and reliability. CX-5 for me.
I agree. I’m in a 2017 SV and am wanting to upgrade as I’m not a huge fan of CVT. I had a Nissan Cube before and it crapped out around 50 and then was replaced under warranty and then was totaled. I’m at 70k miles right now and want to sell and possibly am going to Mazda. I love the Honda HRV but Honda seats don’t work for me. Love the new 2023 Rogue!
After driving the Nissan, and the Mazda, and the Subaru Forrester, I decided to trade in my outback, and just got the base Mazda CX five sport model, it’s a wonderful car, also the screen that you showed on this must be the model distributed in Canada, the United States model has the enlarged 10 inch screen standard with a much crisper picture and backup camera, and the technology seems to have been updated much better in the United States version. Absolutely love the CX5 , it’s a beautiful car, seamless when driving, I do not like CVT transmissions, I’m sure they’re all fine cars, but personally the CX five is my fav.
hey thanks for commenting. I have gotten a lot of feedback saying this one doesn't have the most recent features. I guess we are a bit behind here in Canada
I just bought a 2021 Nissan Rogue SV FWD, white, yesterday. It's very spacious, quiet and packed with a variety of satety features. Acceleration is excellent. I almost forget that it has CVT transmission. Besides, it has a paddle shifter attached to the steering wheel. I like the two-tone dash, too. It turns corners confidently as it's equipped with front and back anti-roll bars, I guess. I don't know much about the Mazda but I like the styling of Rogue more than that of CX-5 which I believe is a nice crossover vehicle, too. Just personal preference.^^

Test drove both. US version CX-5 has a 10.25 inch really high resolution screen. I'd say it's at least 720p. The video quality was of course better on the cx-5 compared to the rogue. Rouge is a really nice vehicle but I ended up buying the the CX-5 signature. It just has better driving, display and feel to it. Also the turbo with 250 hp and 320 torque is amazing.
I liked everything about the rogue, I will be test driving both soon! My old Nissan rogue was great, but there were some things I didn’t like. My 2016 one had shut off while I was driving before. That was SO scary. I wasn’t driving fast but I was in a busy area when it happened. Nissan never could diagnose what happened. They told me I must’ve shut off the engine and hit the button by mistake- which I never ever ever would have done as I lost control over my vehicle for about 5 minutes before it would turn back on. I’m chalking it up to an issue with that particular vehicle. I’m looking forward to trying out both of these vehicles soon!!!
I'm contemplating both. Drove both but just today drove CX5 and loved the luxury ride, cargo room a bit too small, no wireless apple car play or remote start which comes standard in the Nissan. Also, I don't know about you put there is no place to put my eright elbow when I'm driving....the mid-section doesn't pull up so a person can rest their arm on the arm rest, which is strange. Don't like that design in either of these vehicles. Just my 2 cents, but I'm leaning towards the Rogue for more standard options, as the ride and quite cab seem similar.

The 2021 CX 5 I have as a rental while my Rogue is in the shop has a sunroof and keyless entry. Even has leather seats. With the rain sensor for the wipers the CX 5 may be a little bit harder to see out of for some but it is not as bad as I make it sound. I just feel they could have designed the mirror mount smaller. I had a 2013 Passat that had a rain sensor that was just not enabled by default from the factory for some unknown reason. It had a nice small mount and if you did not know that such hardware existed in the car you would never even notice it or know what to look for from the outside of the vehicle to spot it. On the CX 5 the box the rearview mirror is attached to is the size of my hand!! Are they trying to design these newer vehicles to be unsuitable to mount a dash camera to the windshield? It seems that way because to keep it from being too much in the way you would need to attach the mount in the area with the black dots. That is OK I guess if it is a sticky mount but a suction cup does not hold well on that kind of surface. I use a dash camera in my NIssan Rogue and it seems to have better available space to mount it. I would prefer for it to be in the upper middle part of the glass and so I get it as close to that as I can without placing the suction cup on those annoying black dots that I feel are so grossly overused these days. The only serve one purpose, to look good. They are good for not one single other purpose that I consider valid whatsoever!! Is there some sort of regulation that requires that so much of the windshield is used like that by those black dots or is it done mostly for style in some way? They really should do that less!!

Nissan Rouge is looking great inside and outside but it got a Cvt transmission that can break before 80k km. Cx5 got real 6AT automatic transmission that can last over 300k miles and it shift gears very quick like a dream
I recently drove both and prefer the Rogue. Much more sporty look and drive. Both have good points the other lacks but for me it is about enjoying the drive.
Very fair and good comparison! Thanks for your efforts demonstrating for us every single detail, this is awesome seriously. I'm gonna go with the Rouge I so like the design and the space!
The Mazda CX-5 does come with a sunroof and keyless entry based off of the level of trim you pick. Also, remote start can be done through the Mazda APP.
good reiview but . the simple fact that the rouge comes with a garbage cvt transmission already sets the rouge in the trash section suv wont be worth anything if it cant take a family up a hill and a suv witha transmission that has literally 1 gear wont do that nissan will never ever outlast mazda they never have and never will .. in the end mazda will last cvt traansmission wont

The Mazda seats in the back look so uncomfortable. They are angled so that the knees sit above the hips as opposed to being strait. I remember sitting in my friends old mazda3 and the seats were horrible. I love Nissan’s seats and also Toyota.
I rather go with the Mazda version of the Cx5 because it’s reliable then the rogue. Rouges have cvts Mazda doesn’t, also Nissan doesn’t offer a turbo for the rouge Mazda does. The rouge is under power with out a turbocharged engine,

I don't know why so many Japanese vehicles have such an embarrassing horn. I have a 2017 Rogue and feel that the horn could sound better. In all likelihood the horn on yours is the same one mine has. If anything such terrible horns seem like something you would expect a little compact car to have. It is nice that you can get a better horn and often wire it in fairly easily. Often it is as easy as unbolting the old one and connecting the new one. A relay may be needed for your vehicle.
Yes, in Canada they still have the smaller screen, in the United States they have the 10 inch screen, which incidentally has a far sharper and refined camera and picture on the dash than the old screen does. It’s every bit as good as the Nissan screen now.
Great video, thanks. Just upgraded from a 2018 Rogue SL to the 2021 Rogue SL. Very happy with my purchase, but I miss the wireless android CarPlay. Do you know how to change the color of the car on the dash? Is there a way to set it the driving mode to Eco as a default?
Hi Eugene thanks for commenting the 2021 Nissan Rogue only comes with wireless apple car play not the android. Also In the Advanced Drive Assist display you can adjust the colour setting. As far as I know you cannot leave eco mode on
First review I've seen where someone sits in the back seat. That would be the deal breaker for me because of my wife and child. I need space back there and I live in a hot place so having them comfortable is an important part.
In Canada it’s a 2021 CX5. In USA they’re a little different, different names for the trim levels. In USA in 2021, the infotainment screen is 10 inch, not 8 as mentioned here. I think this “GS” is comparable to the “Touring” in the USA with a few differences.
We compared and test drove both of these vehicles very recently before making a decision on a car. It would’ve been better if you compared them both in their mid-level trims. We agreed that the technology and cargo space are better on the Nissan. Most everything else is better on the Mazda. Much better driving a real transmission than a CVRT
We ended up buying a 2019 X-5 when the dealer gave us a good price, a nice extended warranty deal, new tires an Apple CarPlay installed. It isn’t perfect but my wife drives very few miles each year.
@@davidvermont I just drove 2021 CX5 today and was impressed. Dealer didn't offer to install wireless Apple CarePlay or Remote start, very disappointing. These features both come standard on the 2021 Nissan. Also, the camera on the Nissan is much clearer. Just my 2 centes.
Mazda looks dated in the interior and for the same price. Nissan has more features.interior looks modern and roomier. The gas pedal of the rogue is hinged on the top. in snowy days the snow and salt won't puddle up like bottom hinged gas pedal.
The Mazda alone on having a regular automatic instead of CVT'S or Double clutches is one of the best reasons for choosing it. Plus the reliability record of Nissan is not what I'd call good !!
My friend has a Rogue and I have the Mazda and he's had too many issues with it and much money spent fixing it. He's brought his back about 4 years and got the cx5 I have mine for almost 8 years and still doing and nothing like payments for maintenance as his.
I tried both…. For weeks, Mazda looks great has a nice shape, however is like the old one with some nose reshaping…. That’s it! Instead nissan has changed everything and the new model looks way more modern, The mazda Interior is cool but nothing extraordinary! Is not better than the Nissan about the same level. Gadgets, almost the same thing both offer similar stuff. Fuel consumption Is way better Nissan, combined gave me 7.7 and Mazda gave me 9.1 combined, about acceleration I felt the Mazda slow…. And driving wasn’t that pleasant, comparing with Nissan was smoother, has a better acceleration and by the end of the week I had more gas in the tank. Conclusion: both are good cars but in this category I prefer the Nissan Rogue. I’d seen some people criticizing cvt transmission, probably is because people forget that everything need the correct maintenance! Those boxes are being improved year by year now the come with a specific computer for that transmission. In 2008 I bought a Sentra first generation of cvt boxes I sold it years ago, that person keep using it without a single problem….
CX-5, mAAAAAzda, or however this guy is saying Mazda. There are a lot of updates Mazda has made to the CX-5, on the model shown. The infotainment system has been updated, it is a 10.2 inch screen, the one shown here is the 2020 version. Back up camera is much better. You can remote start it as well. As far as safety, Mazda clearly wins. US News and Consumer Reports have both picked the CX-5 over the Rogue.
Chris that has to be a goof.......That Nissan horn sounded like a sick moose......have the engineers no shame?.....My Micra horn is tinny but hey....its a Micra....

Nissan Rogue Looks A lot Better Than Nissan Xtrail (same thing different name) I was definitely willing to try Mazda CX-5 , but after watching this, I decide to go For Xtrail, which is at least 5000/6000 cheaper than Mazda CX-5.
The Rogue look's like it got hit with the ugly bat also no power tail gate that open that high think if a smaller person got a Rogue would need to flag people down to close it, Mazda look's a little dated but still looking pretty good. I would go with the Mazda.

Nissan Rouge is looking great inside and outside but it got a Cvt transmission that can break before 80k km. Cx5 got real 6AT automatic transmission that can last over 300k miles and it shift gears very quick like a dream

@@carsunlocked u r welcome
Thank you so much for this informative and helpful comparison. Out of these two, I'm pro-Rogue. Thanks again!
glad it was helpful thanks so much for watching
Is the Mazda GS a Canadian trim? Where's the 10.25 inch infotainment screen?
yes I live in Ontario Canada
Trim level matters you don’t have to settle for a Mazda just upgrade trim level on the rogue SV gets leather platinum gets high end leather.
yes I feel the Sv premium has the most value
Why would any car built today still have incandescent light bulbs?
I recently drove both and prefer the Rogue. Much more sporty look and drive. Both have good points the other lacks but for me it is about enjoying the drive.
thanks for watching my friend
Very fair and good comparison! Thanks for your efforts demonstrating for us every single detail, this is awesome seriously. I'm gonna go with the Rouge I so like the design and the space!
Glad it was helpful! you made a great choice my friend
The Mazda CX-5 does come with a sunroof and keyless entry based off of the level of trim you pick. Also, remote start can be done through the Mazda APP.
thanks for commenting
good reiview
but . the simple fact that the rouge comes with a garbage cvt transmission already sets the rouge in the trash section suv wont be worth anything if it cant take a family up a hill and a suv witha transmission that has literally 1 gear wont do that
nissan will never ever outlast mazda they never have and never will .. in the end mazda will last
cvt traansmission wont
ahhhh sorry you feel that way. I felt that this gen of the rogue accelerates much better then the 2020 definitely can get your family up a hill
@@carsunlocked
I had a car with cvt transmission.. Car was nice but that transmission cost Me alot of money to fix after 4 years of driving it
After what I been thru and what I had to pay I tell people car is nice that cvt transmission is not
Your review was 👍good very informative
the one with aluminum suspension parts
The Mazda seats in the back look so uncomfortable. They are angled so that the knees sit above the hips as opposed to being strait. I remember sitting in my friends old mazda3 and the seats were horrible. I love Nissan’s seats and also Toyota.
thanks for commenting
I like the Mazda CX, but I have been eyeing on the Rogue
well hopefully this video has helped you
you can remote start the mazda with your phone and the mazda connect app
great features
Automatic vs CVT? Mazda of course!
thanks for commenting
Compare morano 2016 and cx5 2016
2022 ?
Nissan Murano vs. Toyota Venza please!
I can do that stay tuned
I rather go with the Mazda version of the Cx5 because it’s reliable then the rogue. Rouges have cvts Mazda doesn’t, also Nissan doesn’t offer a turbo for the rouge Mazda does. The rouge is under power with out a turbocharged engine,
thanks Mr American manufacturer what would you prefer escape or cx5
What's wrong with the CVT and in what way is The Reliability of the Mazda better than Nissan's??
Me Tuscon hybrid
thanks for commenting my friend
I would pick the Rogue for myself. Great video!
thanks for. the comment my friend. keep up the great work!
Mazda CX-5. No matter how nice the Nissan is I wouldn't consider it till they ditch the CVT that will blow up by 100k.
thanks for you input. I have plenty of customers who's rogue has over 100 thousand miles and it hasn't blown up yet
Great video! Thanks for all the details
glad you enjoyed it
The mazda cx-5 GRAND TOURING (GT) trim is the model you should've reviewed. It has way more features! Best one to get, trust meeee!!!
thanks for the input my friend
Yeah for a lot more money
If that's the case then the Nissan would have to be the platinum trim as well so both are top trim
Laughed within one minute of this video. Subscribed!😂
thanks so much for watching !!!
They are both great cars!! The Rogue seems to has more body and better crash protection....thanks for the video.
hey thanks so much for the input

I bought 2021 Nissan Rouge 8 months ago 9,578 mile already having problems
1.infotainment system randomly rebooted it self possibly software were defective need updates from dealership that were I mostly complaining about it it happened at 3,300 miles
Everyday it randomly rebooted sometimes it gets stuck on Nissan connect screen blanks
If not problems goes away possibly taking to dealership next oil change make a technician bulletin recall code about my problems with infotainment system
out well I would go to the dealer and check it out
But today’s my 2021 Nissan Rogue I got rear ended by other car lot of damage only had 14,650 miles my insurance going to fix it gave me rental cars instead
this just occured to me. this isnt a 2021 mazda cx 5 this must be a 2020. the 2021 mazda cx 5 has a 10 inch display and other things you didnt show. dont know why i didnt catch that before. all the safety features you talked about are standard on the mazda cx 5 across all trim levels.
hello my friend this is a 2021 the model might be different from your region as I live in Ontario Canada
@@carsunlocked well it says 2021 on the paperwork unless its a 2022. my 2021 cx 5 has the 10 inch screen high resolution back up camera and standard safety features.
@@carsunlocked very confusing to me. if you like i can post a video of a 2021 mazda cx 5 review with the bigger infotainment screen
sure lets see how your review turns out my friend do you live in Canada
@@carsunlocked this is the 2021 im talking about ua-cam.com/video/CgE83zBw5Xk/v-deo.html notice the larger screen and its not touchable anymore either sadly
Good review but I will go for the new rogue look is very rugged and more space
I don't know why so many Japanese vehicles have such an embarrassing horn. I have a 2017 Rogue and feel that the horn could sound better. In all likelihood the horn on yours is the same one mine has. If anything such terrible horns seem like something you would expect a little compact car to have. It is nice that you can get a better horn and often wire it in fairly easily. Often it is as easy as unbolting the old one and connecting the new one. A relay may be needed for your vehicle.
i think the battery was dying on this rogue
Umm the 2021 mazda cx-5 has the new 10 inch screen standard.
The model you showed must be a 2020 because it has the 8 inch 🤦
no its not sure. I live in Canada here and this is the 2021 Model perhaps it is different where you live
I need space back there and I live in a hot place so having them comfortable is an important part.
happy wife happy life am i right
Mazda has a app that controls you car. Including remote start
great info!
It even alerts my phone if I leave my door unlocked.. I love my CX-5..
Rogue for exterior and interior.
great choice
Definitely NISSAN ROGUE great redesign
great choice my friend
That was not the 2021 Mazda CX-5
yes it is sir
In Canada it’s a 2021 CX5. In USA they’re a little different, different names for the trim levels. In USA in 2021, the infotainment screen is 10 inch, not 8 as mentioned here. I think this “GS” is comparable to the “Touring” in the USA with a few differences.
Not cvt for me...
thanks for your input my friend
Are you sure this is the 2021 CX-5? The infotainment system looks like the old model...
Yes I am sure
@@carsunlocked It might be 2021 but with a smaller screen? I just bought a 2021 Mazda cx-5 and I have the 10.2 screen.
I don't think this is the 2021 Mazda CX-5 the infotainment system must be bigger
Canada CX5
This isn't the 2021 mazda cx 5. Maybe a 2020 but all the 2021 mazda cx 's come with the 10 inch screen stock.
great review . thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
The only thing is the rogue has a much more rugged look while the Mazda definitely has a wifey front end. And u can't change that. 😁
thanks for your comments glad you enjoyed the video!
Either way they’re both mom mobiles
We compared and test drove both of these vehicles very recently before making a decision on a car. It would’ve been better if you compared them both in their mid-level trims. We agreed that the technology and cargo space are better on the Nissan. Most everything else is better on the Mazda. Much better driving a real transmission than a CVRT
thanks so much for the input I did compared both mid level trims? also what car did you end up purchasing?
We ended up buying a 2019 X-5 when the dealer gave us a good price, a nice extended warranty deal, new tires an Apple CarPlay installed. It isn’t perfect but my wife drives very few miles each year.
Really preferred how the Mazda drove.
sounds like a good deal to me my friend great choice! thanks so much for sharing
If you love driving pick mazda cx5! You would never go wrong.
thanks for commenting
I think the Rogues interior Looks better the Mazda looks dated and the plastics look cheap
thanks for your input my friend glad you liked the video
Mazda looks dated in the interior and for the same price. Nissan has more features.interior looks modern and roomier. The gas pedal of the rogue is hinged on the top. in snowy days the snow and salt won't puddle up like bottom hinged gas pedal.
thanks for sharing
The Mazda alone on having a regular automatic instead of CVT'S or Double clutches is one of the best reasons for choosing it. Plus the reliability record of Nissan is not what I'd call good !!
Thanks for commenting my friend
Nissan 100% hands down!
great choice mate
My friend has a Rogue and I have the Mazda and he's had too many issues with it and much money spent fixing it. He's brought his back about 4 years and got the cx5 I have mine for almost 8 years and still doing and nothing like payments for maintenance as his.
I tried both…. For weeks, Mazda looks great has a nice shape, however is like the old one with some nose reshaping…. That’s it! Instead nissan has changed everything and the new model looks way more modern,
The mazda Interior is cool but nothing extraordinary!
In 2008 I bought a Sentra first generation of cvt boxes I sold it years ago, that person keep using it without a single problem….
thanks so much for commenting great input
Thank you for making this video!!
hey so glad I can help you
CX-5, mAAAAAzda, or however this guy is saying Mazda.
There are a lot of updates Mazda has made to the CX-5, on the model shown. The infotainment system has been updated, it is a 10.2 inch screen, the one shown here is the 2020 version. Back up camera is much better. You can remote start it as well. As far as safety, Mazda clearly wins. US News and Consumer Reports have both picked the CX-5 over the Rogue.
thanks for sharing mr whitt
No doubt the rogue
great choice
Chris that has to be a goof.......That Nissan horn sounded like a sick moose......have the engineers no shame?.....My Micra horn is tinny but hey....its a Micra....
yea i hope not all rogue horns are like that seems really strange
I just bought a 2021 Rogue the Horn is a little cheesy but mine doesn’t sound that bad .
@@blkbimmer90 what trim level you got? I love those new Rogues so much. Still driving my 2015 if it evers gets totaled or breakdown going be sad because its like part of a family but be happier with the newer model.
SV awd I’m going to use aftermarket leather by a company called Katzkin to Reupholster my seats
CX-5 because of the leather and how it drives

Rogue or mAAAHzda. Lol great video ty.

Honestly just out of looking at these 2 over video, I would probably pick the CX-5 because of the traditional gear shift. But I will be purchasing a 2019 or 2020 Rogue cash by this time next year.
Good choice!
let us know when the cvt gives you issues
@@roostersideburns3440 It won’t, I have known a lot of people with them and it never happened.
@@Anonymous-ji4sb good luck man. ive only driven one nissan cvt engine which drove weird but that was 10 years ago about. never driven a newer nissan jatco cvt transmission. but nissan has notorious transmission problems.

Nissan Rogue Looks A lot Better Than Nissan Xtrail (same thing different name) I was definitely willing to try Mazda CX-5 , but after watching this, I decide to go For Xtrail, which is at least 5000/6000 cheaper than Mazda CX-5.
thanks for watching great choice my friend
The Rogue look's like it got hit with the ugly bat also no power tail gate that open that high think if a smaller person got a Rogue would need to flag people down to close it, Mazda look's a little dated but still looking pretty good. I would go with the Mazda.
