I’ve done this swap and if you get the ecu from an 8th gen si and it comes with the key and the fuse box under the dash (micu) you do not have to bring it to Honda u can take the chip from key out and just get the original key programmed so you don’t need to change the door locks

I would also be interested in the power steering hose. it would be a great option for those of us that have a failed eps system and have readily available hydraulic systems from an r18
Great content. Would like to see you guys do the same for a K24 swap into an EK? Surprisingly, there are not many videos showing what needs to be done for that swap.
Thank you for taking all the time and effort to make this video! I have an 06 FD1 Civic with an automatic R18 engine and as you probably now, it's the japanese version of this Civic and looks similar in most of the outside parts to the FD2 Type R Civic. I've had this car for 5 years now and I've always wondered if anyone ever tried a K swap into an R18 Civic. I read once that you basically needed to tear appart a wrecked Civic Si in order to use all the parts, but watching your video is pretty much about just purchasing the right parts! And look at that, you just listed them all for us here! And if I'm being honest , it doesn't look that expensive, considering the upgrade you'll be rocking on your old, good looking and reliable Civic. This is definitely on my wish-list for the next year, once I get my daily drive replacement, I'll start this K swap project with my FD1. Thanks again!
@@classybluev1139 Really? I'm pretty sure that all the FD2s had 2.0 K series engines from factory. As this is the Type R Japanese version. You must be talking about the FD1 Type S. Great stuff as always guys! That mount kit is super trick! The VSA on the 07-11 Si ECUs should be no big deal at all. My 09 Si racecar has all of the VSA and TPMS wiring and hardware removed and it doesn't care other than the lights on the cluster. Love the content, hopefully won't need to reshell the car for a long while but it's great knowing I won't need another Si chassis.
Video begins with "it's as easy as doing a B swap on an EK" Later in the video you begin explaining that holes will be required on a plate in the oil pan and hoses will need to be combined together special equipped from a shop if you're lucky capable of doing it.....well sir that just defeated your initial statement. Nonetheless great video I'm hyped for this because putting an R series back in is dumb when they are notorious for block cracking. I've probably only grinded and rigged a couple things for the b swap but this seems much much more advanced to me
Seem as the R18 engine has become the modern day “D” series engine (the one nobody wanted until ebay turbos become a thing on them) and being so plentiful and cheap currently how easily would it be to put one say into a Honda fit as a super cheap engine swap? With a few parts and a tune I’m sure that lightweight eco engine should make a Honda fit a fun little back road racer on a budget.
Not really that much cheaper as a swap into something older than a K swap. You still need to take care of the engine management, wiring, mounts, axles, etc... We've found K24A1s and A4s for less than $200 that run at the yard which is at the lower end of what a running R18 goes for.

Hey Brian I had a question about the 8th gen K20 swap I'm having a hard time finding a Civic SI transmission I was wondering if a RSX type s transmission will work with the mount kit Hasports Sells for the 8th gen swap
Yes, it will work with that transmission. You just have to figure out something different for the shifter. I think you might be able to take the 06 Civic shift mechanism and put it in the transmission. Just not sure where you would find one.
hi vtec academy. i been looking for modifications for my acura csx (canada only model, 155hp, k20z2, engine is very similar to k20a3) it is pretty much the same as the 8th gen base model sedan chassis. I was wondering if the same k24 swap would be possible? I'm assuming it wouldn't be much different then the r18 but i would like to be sure.
instead of changing out the oil pump, if you keep oil level full according to the dipstick, what is the draw back? The deeper pan takes more oil, but the dip stick will tell you how much oil to add.
Great content as always, however I'd like to know if you have some tips for us that are located in Europe, as any Si parts are basically unobtainable. Driving an FD1 R18 Manual, and the most likely option for a K swap is a K24A3 from an Accord CL9. Would I have to do really heavy modification of the wiring harness to match up the R18 to the K? I'm guessing I'm also just using the standard ECU that comes with the engine I buy, as well as the axles? Shifter linkages and a few other things are also a question mark since you say "just get Si ones", which I can not. Any tips? TIA :)
Modifying the R18 harness would be significant. The stock ECU probably won't work. You could use the K24A3 engine. Could you get stuff from the FN2 Civic? That would be the ticket.
@@VTECAcademy Techically, I could get FN2 parts, yes, however they are quite expensive and hold their value very well, especially with undergoing global inflation.. we don't really see any part out's of the FN2.. It's a similar story as in USA of saying "just get an Si bro" 😅 So long story short, yes, and no, not really. Accord's with a K24 are far easier to find and source parts for. I was asking about the stock ECU of the K24, that should be able to work with the same engine, I'm guessing you misunderstood me and thought I was asking about the R18 ECU..
Hey, could you guys help me out with an ongoing conversation I have going about k series cylinder head compatability? I own an 06 honda element with a stock k24a4 bottom end in witch I have swapped a rebuilt k24a2 cylinder head from an 07 Acura tsx. It runs well and acompression test puts it at about 180psi on all cylinders. It is very common for posts to come up in the element groups about swapping tsx heads onto our stock motors but (finding this out after putting over 20k miles on my swap) it is common knowledge that there are issues with piston to valve clearance issues with a2 cylinder heads and a4 pistons. I have done some mild digging into old forum posts and have found info of piston to valve clearance issues but no evidence otherwise. So is my situation an exception to the rule or does it disprove the rule?
You need to machine the Si oil pump housing to clear the K24 crankshaft. The other option is to use the FD2 Type R oil pump, but that requires changing the oil pump chain, tensioner and chain guide.
Please do some videos on a d series, I am trying my hardest to find any info i can on them. I would like to know which variation of the d series is best to modify for boost, and maybe a good list of parts to do so. A customer of mine just gave me their 2010 civic lx auto. Thinking about doing this swap. How bad do you think the manual conversation is to do? I’m assuming it won’t be too bad
Hi, if you plan on doing this swap please document it if you can, I have a 2010 Civic Lx Auto and I would love to see the build on that. Would plan to do it if everything goes smoothly with yours possibly. The manual conversion shouldn’t be too bad as you would possibly need the clutch assembly, pedals, and he did mention you might have to cut through the firewall. Thanks
hello, a long time fan here =D as swap around here in brazil still very expensive and It's hard to find the K20/K24 around here, I'll end up going for the 1.5t when the price drops I have the r18a6 here in Brazil, and I'm trying to get the hondata to work with a US ECU in this engine, but apparently it doesn't have the vtec oil pressure solenoid. I am currently trying to find a tuning solution for a K20Z2 Acura CSX FD2 Automatic [Paddle Shift]. Any Ideas if the K24 TSX Auto ECU [Which has Hondata available] Might be able to run your R18 Civic[w.K24A2] TSX ECU 37820-RL5-A51 I believe the ECUs are similar. Trying to find any tuning path for the 4 CSXs i'm trying to tune, eventually changing from Z2 Head to Z3 Head only after a suitable tuning ability with Auto K20 CSXs. Could you help me shed some light, really trying to narrow this down.
I wanted to consider doing one of these swaps but unfortunately i have automatic transmission FG1. I'm curious if it is possible to do, and if so would you need different wiring on the auto ECU? I haven't been able to find one person who has successfully done this swap with AT but unless it is a project you guys are gonna look into the future, could you let us know? Thanks and keep up the amazing work you put out.
Automatic poses a problem. The electronics for auto aren't easily swappable. Mostly due to the A ECU plug that tis part of the car's harness. It is 44 pin as opposed to 49 pin so not compatible with the automatic ECUs.
Do you know if this swap could easily be done with an automatic car as well, you would just need the clutch pedal assembly? Also guessing that there are no differences between coupe and sedan?
Yes, coupe and sedan are the same. You will need the brake and clutch pedal assembly. I haven't checked yet, but you may need to cut holes in the firewall too.
Anyone has an auto to manual conversion list. 06 civic coupe is really mint all around with hfp kit ,so i don't really want to sell it to get a manual i rather make this one manual any help would be appreciated

@@VTECAcademy Ohh I see! thanks for the info , I always thought if I change to a bigger engine tach should also be change, thank you
hi vtec academy. i been looking for modifications for my acura csx (canada only model, 155hp, k20z2, engine is very similar to k20a3) it is pretty much the same as the 8th gen base model sedan chassis. I was wondering if the same k24 swap would be possible? I'm assuming it wouldn't be much different then the r18 but i would like to be sure.
It’s easier than doing the R18 model.
@@VTECAcademy thats great to hear ty.
k24z7 oil pan will bolt up n need to swap tsx oil pump
So R18 axle can handle 200+ HP? No fear of breaking it on hard acceleration?
instead of changing out the oil pump, if you keep oil level full according to the dipstick, what is the draw back? The deeper pan takes more oil, but the dip stick will tell you how much oil to add.
There is potential for starvation at high rpms
Which one is better k20 or k24?
For high revving NA fun stock, K20A2/Z3/R and for everything else K24.
He said simple and started naming off tons of parts.
Simple compared to a k-swap into an EG or EK.
It’s a swap, of course you’re gonna need different parts for it, LMAO.
It's a similar story as in USA of saying "just get an Si bro" 😅
So long story short, yes, and no, not really.
Hello. Your saying if I'd get an 06 civic si oilpan and pump I would still have to so some machine filing for it to fit??
Please friend help
You need to machine the Si oil pump housing to clear the K24 crankshaft. The other option is to use the FD2 Type R oil pump, but that requires changing the oil pump chain, tensioner and chain guide.
@@VTECAcademy thanks VteCACADEMY
Please do some videos on a d series, I am trying my hardest to find any info i can on them. I would like to know which variation of the d series is best to modify for boost, and maybe a good list of parts to do so. I have a 97ek coupe i am trying to build and the info or maybe a video or two 🤞🏼😂 would help alot!! Hope you see this thank you 👍🏼 i left this comment on an older video but wanted to make sure you saw it 😂
There is way to many information on D series, just google it.. best for boost is d16z6 or d15b.
@@civicpride1986 i have found lots of info but nothing specific, like which block and head combo is recommended or specifics like torque specs. I know this sounds dumb but im trying to learn so i can execute with as little trouble as possible. I also dont want to have to continually buy things because something doesnt fit or work right.
@@civicpride1986 where would you say is the best place to find information?
A customer of mine just gave me their 2010 civic lx auto. Thinking about doing this swap. How bad do you think the manual conversation is to do? I’m assuming it won’t be too bad
Hi, if you plan on doing this swap please document it if you can, I have a 2010 Civic Lx Auto and I would love to see the build on that. Would plan to do it if everything goes smoothly with yours possibly. The manual conversion shouldn’t be too bad as you would possibly need the clutch assembly, pedals, and he did mention you might have to cut through the firewall. Thanks
hello, a long time fan here =D
as swap around here in brazil still very expensive and It's hard to find the K20/K24 around here, I'll end up going for the 1.5t when the price drops
I have the r18a6 here in Brazil, and I'm trying to get the hondata to work with a US ECU in this engine, but apparently it doesn't have the vtec oil pressure solenoid.
Do you have any knowledge of how to get around this?
thanks for your attention
I don’t. Ask Hondata if you can turn that off in software.
So the r18 subframe work or did u have to use an si subframe?
We used the stock subframe.
I want to do this for my 9th gen since it has an R18
I haven't bought one of those yet.
@@VTECAcademy I've been wanting to swap in one but the cost scares me away
Is this going into an 8th gen civic? Is most this work for the 9th gen? Mine has electric steering :s
I need 5D car but where I live cost of IX gen Type R is just insane.
Is it worth it do swap hatch 5D Civic VIII with K-series?
I know, I know. "Better get VIII Type R" - I would if not 2 children that I must pack into car sometimes lol.
A 5 door would be great!
He said ex... would it make a difference for an lx
I wonder if the K20Z2 CSX [Civic FD2] Has a Factory Honda Rear Mount That fits where the Hasport One goes.
@@VTECAcademy alright then i appreciate that info, i gotta accept that out of the picture
I would like to put a K Series in my R18 with automatic transmission without changing my transmission to Manual. This would be possible?
That would require custom mounts and a big change to the ECU plug that is still in the car.
Anyone has an auto to manual conversion list. 06 civic coupe is really mint all around with hfp kit ,so i don't really want to sell it to get a manual i rather make this one manual any help would be appreciated
I want to do this but with a 9th gen do you have any plans to attempt this in the future also?
Possibly, if there seems to be an interest by enough people. Prices on 9th gens aren't quite as low as the 8th gens yet.
@@VTECAcademy ok I see, do you think it would be more challenging than the 8th gen, I know it wouldnt be worth the money and would be better to just use that money for an si but it would be way more rewarding to do the swap
What’s up with the J Series in the background?
That one is for my Prelude. Eventually.
@@VTECAcademy Very cool.
I own a 2017 Honda HRV 1.8l 6 speed manual, curious to know how if even possible to swap it with a K series.
Maybe once we make the K swap kit for the 2012 civic.
@@VTECAcademy sounds like a plan !
Good morning ! I have a civic hybrid IMA from 2006 (FD) is the assembly identical? THANKS !
No. I have one too. Still haven’t gotten around to making mounts for that.
@@VTECAcademy And concerning the ECU, and the engine modifications are identical?
Can I contact you on instagram to ask you more questions?
Does anyone know where they got the motor mounts or are they custom made?
What automatic transmission would you recommend for this swap?
Since the ECU is critical, you would want to re-wire the car so you could use the TSX engine and auto trans.
Quick question, is this swap a good idea for a daily driver? My r18 might be dieing and I would love a k series in my car but I would like to be able to keep A/C is that possible? Also has anyone made the wiring harness yet?
AC would need some of the hoses and compressor from the Si. Totally doable.
Was this an automatic lx before it was swapped? Were there holes to drill out for the clutch pedal?
I had to drill holes in mine
