I mean, is he really though? Dude is sick af, but i think everyone knows that. Trivium is legendary. With at least one album on everyones top lists. Ascendency will go down as one of the best metal albums of all time. THE best for a lot of ppl.
I always get mixed feelings when coming back to older Trivium stuff, this "In Waves" era more specifically. At one point, I'm both sad that Matt blew up his voice by using inproper technique for screaming for so long and happy that he's been able to recover and is being able to do this stuff safely nowadays. But at the same time, man, I miss THESE screams so much. In my opinion, Matt's voice was at its peak during this era: His screams/gutturals were poweful and brutal, while his cleans were almost angel-like. Having David produce their next album already had some influence on Matt's vocals, making his cleans a bit more "theatrical" sounding, in my opinion. And then, a bit later, he blew up his voice, making his voice and technique change completely going forwards. Again, I'm happy that he's recovered and learned proper technique to keep his singing/scream safe, not to mention, his kinda found a totally new voice that fits the newest albums so well. I'm glad we have these live videos recorded so that we can watch them back. Just to be clear: I love the newer albums after Alex stepped in, it's just that, you know, nostalgia is a hell of a bitch, and I always feel nostalgic hearing Matt's In Waves era voice.
I think all fans of trivium ( myself include) we have this mixed emotions about Matt voice . And understand very well what you say. My favorite era is between ascendancy and shogun.
I feel like the old screams sounded best on Shogun. Listening to the whole "In Waves" album, you can start to hear how much "wear and tear" Matt's screaming had on his vocal cords then.
Its truly a shame when such a talented vocalist gets hurt. Especially when its someone who can do great harsh AND clean. Its so damn rare. Heafy, phil lebonte, james clark, matt tuck learned to do both eventually, anders as well. I struggle to think of any more big names, and lebonte is the only one that i dont think has hurt himself yet. That dude is something truly unique though. Singing entire albums in both styles, then layering them over eachother. Cant imagine the studio hours hes put on the mic.
@@lethalpenguin61 Ehh the screams in the album version are pretty bland. think about it. he basically only used one scream at one pitch. the old albums were still good but these are far better imo
Thane Krios Twiddle with some sound settings, i only found out yesterday i've been listening to only half the sound for months. This video made me realise, i thought it was strange that the guitar was muted. And then having no sound when the guitars fade back in for "Down Again" by Chimaira i knew something was wrong for sure. I've a scarlett 6i6, seems i have to click a button that says "PFL" to hear everything, i dunno why it isnt turned on by default. I've months of music to catch up on now! haha
@@quinnm.3588 I'd say the break down is about 2:45 to 3:30. The breakdown in a song is the place where the tempo and the vibe feel somewhat different of the rest of the song. It serve as a link to the last part /last chorus... Well, that's what I understand about a breakdown anyway =)

For me, trivium was all about Nick, he gave the power Trivium needed, now with Madiro on drums... its a joke, the guy is obviously a tool. Expect to see a new drummer in 3 years ...
I want to give Matt (Madiro) the benefit of the doubt. He's the new guy, and though he might not be as brutal on the drums as Nick (who was amazing) he may still bring some goodness to the band, we just don't know until their next album dude.
A lead guitarist that always plays flawless and growls, a godlike drummer, an awesome bassist that sings clean backup vocals perfectly harmonized, a rhythm guitarist that sings clean, gritty and growls, and who also plays epic solos. 4 insane studio albums + Ember to Inferno and 11 singles, and one of the few bands that deliver on stage and live every god damn time, sometimes even better than the originals!
