Great video. Appreciate the side by side view. This seems to be a common review for everyone who purchased a 2020. I sure hope Triumph takes this to heart and updates the 2020 with the old dash menus or a revised one.
Yes, the dash on the 18 model is much better. It would not stop me buying a 20 model though. I’m not too bothered about the rpm, mostly other data on the screen and more importantly mph. Street riding only for me though. Your right, Triumph could easily do a software update to make it better though.
You are completely right, I had hard time to figure out where is the tachometer and other info while riding. I read the entire owners manual of 2020 TTRS and I couldn't figure out why I can't find the theme 2, until I watched your video :) It looks like in 2020 Triumph changed the TFT and it is really sucks, in fact I didn't buy the bike because I was having hard time reading the display.
Thanks for this! I was planning to Buy the street triple R and i was angry that the new model has no tft display. After watching this i can live with it a little bit more.
Hey man, just came across your channel. I just picked up a 2024 RS, and to say the least the dash is a big fail. I think the guy who designed this dash thought it was for a video game. I agree it would be a simple fix to offer a better choice of graphics, even just using the old design, so much better. Anyway, its not a deal breaker, the rest of bike is just too good, I will deal with it.
Yeah, but it's still nice to have, especially when I have multiple bikes and they all have different redlines. It's one of those things, where it might not be 100% necessary, but at the same time, there is zero benefit to getting rid of it and doing it the way they did. It's the #1 complaint with this bike, according to Triumph, so it's not just me saying it.
As a Bonnie owner, I had no clue that the tunnel vision half pipe style screens were the only options to choose from 😆 that truly does suck. What’s the point of different styles if it’s the same style. First gen truly has different styles. Should have added them all together, nothing wrong with having 8-10 choices. And that is why I will buy an R with the “analog” dash 🤖 And it’s not just one dudes fault, this was approved by many I bet. Triumph did drop the ball on this. One more reason to not buy a Tiger 900 either, that and the twin like firing order 🤢 old ones sound nicer IMO.
this is an older video, but omg im so glad it wasn't just me, the only way i shift is by ear and seeing the dash turn red when i go to red line, there's no way you're reading those tiny ass numbers while trying to also pay attention to the road. I just wish there was a customization where the tach was "analog", because even if you can't read the numbers you have a rough idea where you are by the needle
I agree 100% about the dash on the 2020 Street Triple, I'm changing my 2018 R for the 2020 R and I'm pleased to see they've reverted to the analog rev counter as I've found the Triumph TFT a bit mickey mouse.
rounding out my 2nd month on the 2020 RS. I havent had a chance to ride the previous years model, but I couldnt agree with you more. The tach on the 2020 is unusable. Love the rest of the bike, however.
Great video sir. I personally like the new design, although two things I would like added: FLASHING red, I'm pretty sure the bar turns red when its high, but it doesn't flash, and a dial gauge style. My .02
Greetings from Brazil! Untill last month I had a Street Triple 765 RS 2018 and I've just bought the 2021/22. Regarding the dashboard digital layout, Triumph has walked ten steps backwards... I couldn't be more disappointed.
The new layout genuinely is the reason i went and bought a 2019 model. Sounds weird, maybe i‘ve got slight OCD but the rev counters make me pull my hair out 😅 If they added a rev counter that goes from left to right with the speed in front (as the 2019 has) i‘d have bought one But i‘m not going to buy a bike that makes me angry every time i look at the display
I purchased mine Feb '20 and I couldn't agree more about the awful dash... I wrote to the North America address you have in your comment... I live in Hawaii. I also was having trouble with shifting from N to 1st, doesn't want to stick in 1st. I did post in the forum and had many suggestions. It's shifting better, but still happens. Does anyone have this issue? Started at around 300 miles and I have less than 500 miles on it.
I have not had that shifting problem... One issue I have seen is that occasionally, the quickshifter doesn't want to work... It goes through a gear or two, and then when you go to grab the next one... nothing... It's almost as if the "return spring", for lack of a better term, isn't strong enough to always return the shifter to the middle position, where it can grab and engage the next gear... It's like it is 99% strong enough, so that 1% of the time it doesn't, and you almost have to tap or wiggle it or something, for it to click into place to be able to grab the next gear and shift. It's so intermittent and random, it's hard to pinpoint exactly what is going on, or what might be causing it.
Got one over a month ago, and I totally agree. I made the mistake of assuming the new dash just had a few extra screens, but you would still have the same as before as well. The new display is absolutely shite.
Hi again, I have ended up with setting dash to green and in night mode giving white speedo numbers with green gear indicator and green numerical rev counter which seems the clearest to me. This works for dash settings 2,3 & 4; the lower revs numbers are constantly spinning which I think could be a distraction so may cover them with a tiny piece of matt black tape but this would hide other info when toggling the tray info-we shall see. Was going to load into this 3 photos of the dash but it won't let me.
I have no idea, but someone was asleep at the wheel... And it will get worse, when owners of the 2018-19 bikes are in for service soon, and the dealer updates their software and they get "upgraded" to the new dash design... Apparently they will all get updated over time, unless you opt out. But if you opt out, you won't be able to upgrade to the bluetooth module...
I agree 100 PERCENT - I have the same dash on my 2020 Triumph Tiger 900 GT Pro. And it really wasn't designed well, don't know why Triumph does this but they do, perhaps this is another design by committee failure. Just wasn't a good design - They need to have someone with "Old Eye's" to look at their displays before they approve them for production. BTW: Triumph since we are on the subject produces some of the most Fn' Ugly color schemes. I'm looking at purchasing a 2021 Triumph Street Triple 765 RS in Silver Ice as what they have done to their 2022 Silver color scheme is so gaudy - come on guy's you can do better.
Hi mate, I've ridden the MT-09 and the 2019 Street Triple R back to back on racetrack, and the MT-09 was really disappointing. The brakes, the suspension, the handling, the seat position, the power curve, everything is much much better on the Triumph by lightyears. The MT-09 has a bit more torque in the low revs, but in the middle the two bikes are almost the same, and in the upper rev range the MT-09 runs out of power, but the Street R still had 2000 more revving freely. I had my new 2020 RS a few weeks ago, but I haven't been on racetrack yet. SquireSCA To each his own. I felt like I was having to try way too hard to keep the Speed under 80. Things like Super Duke 1290s and S1000Rs with 170hp are just stupid for the street, IMO. Spending most of your time using 10% of the throttle and the rest praying there isn’t a cop waiting for you.

I have a blast on it in the twisties and just tooling around. But sometimes, you just wanna feel that savage acceleration that only a literbike can provide, you know?
@6:08 An iPhone is just a smartphone and a less common one.
Sure, but not sure what point you are making... It's an example of how it's a completely electronic screen, it can be whatever graphics the maker wants it to be...
@@SquireSCA Equating iPhone to smartphone is like equating Pepsi with softdrink.
@@worldhello1234 Meh, not gonna get into the phone fanboy argument... I prefer Android, but you can't deny that the iPhone is a decent phone... And for illustrative purposes, it works as iPhone is a term everyone on the planet understands...
The old dash was way better, I also like the matte paint on the previous one more.
Have you seen both up close, in person? Both look nice, but the glossy finish I think looks much nicer.
@@SquireSCA unfortunately I can't say that I have, but I like the matte finishes on the paint on other bikes I've seen, plus I think it's going to last longer than the glossy finish.
@@Alexander5R Up close, you might be surprised. I have both and the glossy looks nicer, and the matte grey tends to scratch and scuff pretty easily...
Such a shame they made the tach so difficult to see!
It really is annoying to see all the strides that they made, only to trip at the 1 yard line when it comes to the dash... I mean, some bikes have crappy dashes... Triumph HAD awesome dash displays, and they they took it away. Shame...
@@SquireSCA do you mean the LCD dash displays with the analog tachometer?
@@EAgamer100 Yeah, the new dash graphics do a piss poor showing of the tach. On the 2017-2019 models it had a large digital version of the tach that looked almost analog, that was easy to read, and easy to see out of the corner of your eye..
@@SquireSCA I have got a 2016er Triumph Speed Triple with that dash display 😁
@@EAgamer100 Yeah, my 2011 and 2017 Speed Triple had the analogue and digital combo dash...
I do like TFT, they just need better graphics for the tach, that's all... They put form over function for the 2020 model, clearly...
Agree 100%. Sucks ass so bad.
How do you have this display on street 2020 I m searching This since february
I am not sure what you are asking?
Change for the sake of change…🤬.
Yeah, not a fan. Hopefully the 2023 redesign has addressed that stuff.
