    I spent a few hours on the RS, then jumped straight on the R and did the same route. I found the R power delivery to be much better than the RS, especially off the line. The brakes on the RS are another league but I definitely preferred the R overall, so now I do have one sat in my garage. Absolutely love it 😁

    I am most happy to own a Street Triple 765 R since 2019.
    It has nearly 30.000 km now on the clock.
    No issue whatsoever since new.
    Great touring bike with a pair of SW Motech soft saddle bags and the quick release tank bag.
    I toured the Alps from Geneva to Nice, I have been riding to Spain, Portugal and South Morocco with this bike.
    No problem, I am aged 69 and living in the Southwest of France 30 miles north of Biarritz.
    Perfect bike for me!
    It’s a lightweight bike which is essential for me and my old age 😜.
    I am thinking of single headlight conversion too 👍😊

      Impressive!
      I don't care what others say, I love the praying mantis headlights. Helps with the distinctive look.
      My 2018, also problem free since I purchased new, only has ~10k on the clock. My Tiger does most of the touring duty though. Other bikes have come and gone since, but the Street Triple R will always have a place in my garage!

    I bought the R in August 2018, I was changing from a GSX-R750 thinking I had to sacrifice some fun for more comfort, I couldn't have been more wrong ,it's the most fun I've had on a bike since my first 350L/C in the early 80s, in fact I'd probably call it the equivalent of a four stroke L/C.

      I did more or less the same thing, swapped my K8 1000 in for an R last year. I miss the drama of the big bike occasionally but the STR is just far more fun at realistic speeds, and my licence thanks me for it!

    • @BarryThompsonUK
      @BarryThompsonUK 4 роки тому

      @Drakey Drake Which bit surprises you? The K8 is a fabulous machine but at legal UK speeds it's barely trying, where the Street is fun and engaging for me. I found I was taking liberties with speed on the Suzuki that you just can't do these days. Thanks for the Oulton view, it's a great circuit even at the merely brisk pace on those videos (bike was on Road Pilot 4s after a touring week away).

    • @BarryThompsonUK
      @BarryThompsonUK 4 роки тому

      @Drakey Drake 1000s are awesome for sure, and I do miss that silly engine occasionally, but for sheer fun you can't beat ragging a smaller engine (if you want to keep your licence any where near intact that is). Also, I have other bikes alongside the funky little StreetR :)

    These really are great bikes. Terrific handling and exquisite induction noise are intoxicating. I had the RS model, it made me ride like a goon, so it was traded it in on a 1200 Scrambler. License saved.

    I’ve owned this bike for over 2 years, and I’m going to own it until she quits on me. I’ve gone over 300 miles in a day, and the seat held up fantastically. Has a good amount of space to stretch out too. Just last week I fitted a new exhaust. Sc project sc1r. The bike feels like a brand new bike and I couldn’t recommend it more. Adds a powerful low-down grunt to the bike that it is sorely missing as stock

    A while back, I owned a Honda VFR800, wasted my time with it when Triumph triples have been getting better and better every model update.

    I changed my 2018 Tiger 1200 in on a new 2019 Street Triple R ..... way lighter and heaps more fun factor but for me personally comfort while touring does not exist (yet) BUT I have not given up trying (yet). Unfortunately I want to do everything with 1 x bike. Tour, Commute, carve twisty’s. That Triple is so smooth and addictive....awesome bike for sure. You nailed it!

    I would trade if it had cruise control

    Great review and loved the audio at the end. I test rode the original Street Triple back in 2007? and nearly chopped my Daytona in for one, but like you I just couldn't fall in love with the bike due to those fugly headlights. I hoped they would eventually get rid of them but each new model just changes them a bit. I hadn't even considered a headlight conversion but it did look much better in that image. I've got a Street Scrambler now which I'm finding a bit slow and I didn't love the Speed Twin when I rode it, so I could see me going for the Triple and swapping out the headlight.

    I got a second hand Street Triple A2 S recently and had it derestricted. It's awesome. 94 BHP is enough for me.
    The cheaper brakes and suspension feel okay on my A2 S, but I don't think that I'm a "discerning" rider just yet.
    I have test ridden the RS, it went quicker than I need, plus it also cost quite a bit more. Haven't tried an R.
    Why main moan about the new RS are the colours it is available in, apart from cost, one of the reasons I got the A2 S was that it is in bright red.
    My only moan about the R and the S are the standard mirrors. Bar ends are much nicer, which fortunately the previous owner of my bike had fitted.
    Guess I wouldn't mind a quick shifter some day .

    Had to check the date of this video - you're a few years late to the party it seems!
    I have the RS myself, had it for over 18 months now, and can honestly say it is brilliant on the roads - not a single problem with it; the power and stopping are faultless; but the pogos are pretty harsh - but a proper setup will sort that out.
    I had the R for a week when my RS went in for an oil leak, and it's terrible by comparison - those brakes! The lesser Brembos just felt completely wooden, and although I knew they would stop me, they just completely lacked the feel of the M50s.
    The R has more torque in the middle, but that seems to be the only benefit it has - that and saving yourself about a grand. But in the real world, you won't notice the difference, and you lose some of the nicer bits that come with the RS as standard - up-rated shock (and forks?), nice bar end mirrors, and the epic M50s.
    Given the choice between the two again, the RS will be the choice every time - the lack of torque really isn't an issue to 95% of riders; as most people's arse-dyno won't pick up on this detail - and most people won't mind dancing up and down the box either - certainly if you have ridden a sportsbike in the past.

      @Typhon219 4 роки тому +1

      TheScortUK I’ve ridden both. Back to back specifically to feel out which I’d prefer and I went with the R. Each to their own but despite the above comment, my arse Dyno easily felt the power difference. The M50’s were awesome but I figure I could spend the money upgrading the brakes on the R and keep the noticeable extra torque.

    • @fyorbane
      @fyorbane 4 роки тому +1

      Most pro road testers actually prefer the R over the RS. The R has better more compliant suspension for the road. The extra power AND torque upto 10,000 rpm can be felt and makes more sense. If you do track days then get the RS otherwise the R is the better bet.

    Just a thought about the Dyno Graphs/Charts.
    What "mode" do you think the bikes were in??
    Possible the R was in sport and the RS was in track and this is the cause/reason for the different power curves.
    The track mode available on the RS but not the R allows for the larger HP number??
    Possible the R and RS would dyno pretty much the same in the same mode??
    Just a thought, again great review.
    Thanks

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  4 роки тому

      Sadly I don't have much in the way of background information for the charts, but I would assume they were all taken from the same mode? Each bike has its own particular 'base' tune and the rider modes tend only to alter traction control, ABS and throttle response. The RS offers more hp, but with the same peak torque.

      White Rabbitt I have a 2018 Street Triple R and my buddy has a 2017 FZ-09. Power is similar. Yamaha is a bit more jumpy. Overall the build quality, precision, and incredible handling and stability of the ST R is pretty unbeatable to me.

      Interesting bikes to compare, the XSR looks (and i guess is physically bigger). I've always though that they have 'tall' looking engines. Obviously the Yam has less sporty styling and i'm told they are a little more twitchy on the road. The Triumph is 20 or so KG lighter. The XSR is more expensive too.
