If you ever grab an item with a red or yellow sticker and if there is an store associate marking down items, you can have them check to see if that item it marked down further. I did it with a marked down bassinet & it was an extra $5 off by asking her. Please ask nicely since they are doing you a favor. Also, the TJMAXX stores that have the Rinway dept will have designer brands like Gucci, Louboutin, Moschino, Ferragamo, Longchamp, etc. I driver 45 mins just to go to this location a few times a year.
Love this! I use to work at Marshall's and was head of the mark down team. So most of your insight is correct. The box all the way to the right that you were inquiring about is the Month code. Now the number next to that is an imperfection code. Scale 1-10, 1 being the lowest of imperfections 10 obviously being the highest imperfection.
Dear Effervescent Matt, Thank you for using your smarts, your caring personality, and hilarious sense of humor to increase our shopping skills. You're very awesome! 😊😎😊
I was a manager at Marshall's almost 30 years ago! From what I can tell, not much has changed. I used to apply red and yellow labels to tags from a machine that read the upc called a "digimatic". I often had a crowd following behind me to see the new prices. I still shop and enjoy Marshall's. Thanks for the video! 🙂
Another thing to know about the yellow tag is that if you ask an associate to scan that yellow tag, it can sometimes be reduced even more. I have had it happen a few times with me. 😁😁
Excellent point!!!! And that can go for MANY DIFFERENT RETAILERS, even the high end retailers. It happened to me at Bloomingdale’s AND Saks Fifth Ave, over the years. So, if you’re thinking oh, if it were just a bit less, I’d buy it, double check the price tag at the register…you may have a fun surprise.
I work at Wendy’s. Our franchise gives senior discounts. However, only if the customer asks for it. As a drive through cashier, I often come across nasty customers because of the wait time. (Thanks covid and staff shortage) I will smile, and apologize, offering them a 10% discount. Not everyone can do that. My point being, please be kind to staff. They’re more likely to help you out if you’re not cussing them out. Another great video, Matt!
Sad that mean people don't think they need to be polite (basically civilized human beings!) and courteous and considerate. A little of that makes big difference in everyone's life. Covid and staff shortages have nothing to do with nasty customers and short tempers. They were nasty to begin with and the past couple of years just made them worse. I appreciate anyone who works with customers, in person or on the phone. It's hard work. Without you and your fellow colleagues how would people get their Frosties(sp?) and coffees?
I’ve worked many jobs, most with the public. The WORST being fast food. As a teenager, I worked at an Arby’s and a Taco Bell. Those two jobs were the worst jobs EVER! All due to the public. I had a double whammy since I was a teenager while also working with the public. It’s amazing to me how many people believe they are above the employees some how. I often would be yelled at and/or reported on to my manager because of the kitchen lines faults. I would way too often be “talked down to” just because of my job choices. As to say I was not very high up on the ladder of society. 🙄 I, of course, know better than that. I just never did understand why those people who had those beliefs would belittle themselves and eat at a fast food establishment. 😉
I always try to be as patient and nice with fast food workers. Almost always I get a discount. Being nice and considerate goes a long way. Especially if they've dealt with rude customers all day.
I work in grocery retail. If you are kind and polite to the staff/managers on a regular basis, we are FAR more lively to give a deal or a better offer (if available)... Not that I don't go above and beyond but the regulars get an extra 'plus' on the effort. We're all humans and it pays to be kind and courteous.
I was once talking to a young woman associate at Marshall’s. She had recently moved to the US. I told her to go work at McDonalds because they provide free ESL, GED classes and college tuition reimbursement.
I always watch until the very end so I can hear you say, “I love you bye-bye.” That is my favorite part! I always enjoy watching your videos and love your sense of humor. You are a gift from God!
I love Marshall’s and I was there in January too for their beauty clearance. I always check expiration dates on my beauty products especially SPF. I got some full size shower gels for $2 on the yellow tags.. I also found that Marshall’s and TJ Maxx/HomeGoods have cheaper cleaning products. They sometimes have Method brands for $1-2 less than Target/Wal-Mart
Best place for beauty products. I always by Micellar water (a new must have for me) and makeup wipes there. There’s always a huge assortment of wipes. One warning, twice I’ve bought some small tube of beauty product only to get home and find them empty.
Excellent video as usual. In Canada, our CBC Market Place investigative news did an undercover story where they discovered that the 'original price' on these tags is completely made up by the stores and has nothing to do with reality. They also discovered that most of the high end fashion for outlets and these stores is produced differently and more cheaply than the items for the brand retail locations.
Wow! This was FILLED with things I didn't know! I'm going to head over to Marshall's this week and see how much money I'm going to save! Another great one in the book, Matt!
Matt, I can't tell you enough about how entertaining & informative your videos are & how much I have learned from them. Please keep up the great work..🎉🎉
If I could get an alarm clock that starts the day with a loud "THEEESEEEE..Are the times to wake up!" I'd be so happy! It puts a smile on my face every time.you open with that :)
Thanks for another great video ❤ In a recent purchase at Marshall's I was duped! Ellen Tracy Highlighter on Clearance with Original White Tag $4.99 covered by Red Tag at $4.00 covered by Yellow Tag at $6.00. Beware!
I used to be a guerilla shopper at Marshall’s back in the day! I actually used to turn that advice about high end products in higher end areas on its head, particularly with children’s clothing. I found that the more expensive kids’ items seemed to be fairly evenly distributed to all the stores, but were less likely to sell in the more “average” income area stores. So I would haunt those stores for the red and yellow tickets and pick up gorgeous clothes for a song. In the ladies department, I could pick up labels like Cole Haan, etc for a great price! They’d be passed over because a great red ticket price on those items was still well above the normal ticket price on everything else and many would be unfamiliar with the brands.
My sister and I just bought 3 giant bottles of body wash at Marshall’s where she lives and only spent 15$ for all 3. All were on sale in the clearance section. And I found socks and hair conditioner that had ridiculously low prices and all the things we bought are super nice! And everything had seals on them so they hadn’t been opened at all. Love your show! 👍
I used to work for tjmaxx and we can hold items for 24 hrs but some stores will do it up to a week if you ask nicely or if it’s a high ticket item especially furniture
We went on a cruise in January of 2019 so in August of 2018, my cousin & I went to Marshalls to find clothes for the cruise & got some incredible deals because, like nearly every store in the northern hemisphere, they were trying to clear the summer stuff to transition to fall & 'back to school' stuff.
Wow! Thank you so much for all your hard work and clear explanations of the tags. I am always amazed at what I learn watching your videos! You always make me laugh and make if fun to learn ways to save $!!!
@@thedealguy your vids are truly AWESOME my niece yelled to me and said Uncle give him a like NOW... Funnest thing ever.... You had my niece laughing so hard.... So thank you for making both of our nights Sir 🙏🏼😁😎👍🏼

I’m arms with all your great info on tags, times, and lingo to get some things I’ve been holding off on! As always your reviews save us money and the disappointment of products that just don’t live up to our expectations! Love you! 💕🤗❤️😍
Always great to see you Matt. I shop Marshall’s, but more often TJ Maxx because it’s closer to my shopping area. Do the rules apply to their sister store as well ? I love these tips and love you as well for helping your viewers save money as the price of consumables rapidly increase. Keep up the good work my friend and “Hello” to your wife and daughter as well ! Long time viewer 😊
Similar rules apply, but I was some information around the timing of the stickers are different and a few other things, but often most rings true for both!
There are now owned by the same company (TJX, who lost a bunch of people on a plane on 9/11😢). But I have been told I can’t return something I bought at TJ Maxx to Marshalls. YMMV
As always so many useful and money saving tips. Looks like I will be looking for these tips at my local Marhall's store. Thanks for all you do Matt to save your fans money. Have a great day. Take care & stay safe.

Raise the roof, Matt! You ARE a cool dude! Nice tip on going to a store in an affluent area; that's a new one for me. Thanks for always looking out for us! ❤
Thanks Matt! I used to work at Marshalls when it first opened....many, many years ago... when they said "Irregular" boy they meant it! We used to get men's shirts with a sleeve sewn into the back of the shirt, socks with 2 toes... It was pretty funny and a lot of fun!
I so enjoy watching your videos, and I really love your enthusiasm...I’ll be waiting for the next video with anticipation 🌹....have a great day, as I’m off to Marshalls🥰
Raise the roof, Matt! Come and get your Camuto! 😆 Love you and this vid. Always wanted to know this stuff but was afraid to ask. 🙏🏼 IMO, those furry black n white boots w multiple yellow tags are going straight to Goodwill!
Oh no, it's anything but expensive. I used to shop there for workout clothes and they are a fraction of other retailers with quality comfortable clothes.
Pro tip about online returns from a cashier: 1. KEEP YOUR RECEIPT! The cashier cannot process the return without a receipt in the case of an online return. (At least at my store) 2. Make sure you keep the bag(s) the item(s) you ordered came in. Those bags have a barcode on them that is used to process the return because the item itself will not have a Marshalls tag on it. The cashier will not have an easy time processing the return without it, and sometimes will not be able to process the return at all if their return machine can't find the item in the system.
All of your videos are absolutely amazing & very valuable! Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge, its much appreciated! Take good care & be safe.❤😊🙏
G'day, Matt! I must commend you for the smooth segues and clear walking video views. Very helpful, I have been holding onto a credit for both stores. Now I can shop smarter!
To add to number 8. Makeup and beauty products. Along with expiration date also check that the item is not opened and used. It happens a lot at these stores and can be very disappointing to buy a great product just to find it’s totally ruined inside the packaging.
Love it! Last week I was able to find a Bloody Mary mix for $1!!!! It was pretty good too, not full of artificial ingredients or sugars like many other mixes.
Hello,I always love your videos and energy. You must have a really nice Marshall’s where you are at. I stopped shopping there years ago, because everything was on the floor…I’m serious, clothes, towels, purses…..many things, so I figured if the store could care less then I should care less
My daughter recently started working at our local Marshall’s and I found it interesting that once they mark down their holiday items and after a certain amount of time they throw those items in their dumpster….I would think they would at least offer it to employees. Anyway, my point is I have noticed on tiktok there are people who hit local dumpsters for stuff like that and if clean and in good condition they are able to make up lots of goody bags to take to shelters or give to homeless folks…..so Marshall’s may be a good place to start checking after certain holidays. Not sure if regular merch goes in the dump or just holiday items and not sure if there are consequences if caught but may be worth a try?
Excellent information, Matt! I like to shop at TJ Maxx since we do not have a Marshalls in our town. I try to go there first for seasonal home decorations and household items. Their name brand selections are priced considerably less than in other retail stores. Btw, we love you, too Matt! 💖
You’re so good. I enjoy listening to you. You should hit up all the major big boxes represent them as well. At least get paid for what you’re doing. You’re good at it.
So happy to know about the actual original price tip. I mean, if I really wanted something I would buy it regardless, but always thought rhe compare price was suspect.
I'm telling you. When I sneak to Marshall's around 11 (before the lunch rush) I always find the newest stuff. J have had to ban myself from here and TJMaxx because I buy so much.
If you enjoyed this video, please give it a THUMBS UP and SHARE the video with a friend as it helps me in UA-cam algorithm and allows me to make more videos for you all! 😀 What are your tips when it comes to Marshalls?

I was in a Marshall's last week and I saw a lot of healthy, organic and decadent snacks. Very nice. Wait until they're discounted and even better.
They increase the prices 50% and then they put it on clearance.

100% agree! Kindness goes a long way (not that you shouldn’t the kind to others just in general anyway)

for cosmetics expiry, if the box doesn't have one printed, there are websites where you can input the lot number and it'll tell you the expiry.

Wow, good tips. Marshals wasn’t in my list of places to go…but I should maybe check it out! Thanks!
I never was at a Marshalls before thought it was too expensive. I'll go look now.
Thanks you are such a pro and seem so kind and caring!
Oh no, it's anything but expensive. I used to shop there for workout clothes and they are a fraction of other retailers with quality comfortable clothes.
They are very expensive and you will need hours to find anything. Horribly set up store.
Mine are Def much higher... but you're getting name brand... Ross is more target and walmart... marshals are Saks and Nordstrom etc
Thanks for the tips, definitely going to use them the next time I’m in the store.
Matt these are your best. The tips have made me a better consumer. Keep up the great work.
Pro tip about online returns from a cashier:
1. KEEP YOUR RECEIPT! The cashier cannot process the return without a receipt in the case of an online return. (At least at my store)

Thank you for all your helpful hacks and tips.
G'day, Matt! I must commend you for the smooth segues and clear walking video views. Very helpful, I have been holding onto a credit for both stores. Now I can shop smarter!
Love ur videos ❤️❤️
To add to number 8. Makeup and beauty products. Along with expiration date also check that the item is not opened and used. It happens a lot at these stores and can be very disappointing to buy a great product just to find it’s totally ruined inside the packaging.
Thank you!! Love your videos and your awesome sense of humor!
Thanks for watching Jenny!!
Love it! Last week I was able to find a Bloody Mary mix for $1!!!! It was pretty good too, not full of artificial ingredients or sugars like many other mixes.
Awesome information!! thank you so much for sharing!!!
Great vid. I can never find shoes at marshalls...only once in a blue moon as I wear size 5.5. However, I find apparels for great price.
Thanks for the notification! Will have to check out Marshall’s. Haven’t been there before!
It's an awesome store Linda!
So helpful!! I had no idea about all the tag info
Great video, Matt, learned a lot about Marshalls and how to maximize shopping there. Thanks for deep diving saving money.
Very good tips
As a Marshall's shopper these are all definitely tried and true!!
I'm not really into shopping, but your videos make me smile!
😊
your videos change my life
I love your videos! So much energy 😀
Another great, wholesome video. Thanks Matt!!
Thank you for watching Amanda!!
We find awesome prices in the clearance section. Awesome video as always 👍🏽
Shhhhh everyone hear that? That's the firetruck coming bc Matt just dropped a fire video
Hello,I always love your videos and energy. You must have a really nice Marshall’s where you are at. I stopped shopping there years ago, because everything was on the floor…I’m serious, clothes, towels, purses…..many things, so I figured if the store could care less then I should care less
“ hip” 😂 best part of the video.
Awesome tips here matt. Now we gotta have one on Ross.
I'm definitely going to be doing some online shopping today. How did I not know about this?!
Very impressed that you pronounced the beauty product correctly! 👍🏼
Great job Matt. Thanks for the shopping tips.
Thanks for watching!!
Shame they don't donate the things 😔
Isn't dumpster diving illegal?
@ThugPug43 It isn't illegal everywhere. You'd have to check your local laws.
So helpful and entertaining! Thank you!
Terrific video, thank you. Love you too!
So happy to know about the actual original price tip. I mean, if I really wanted something I would buy it regardless, but always thought rhe compare price was suspect.
Ooooo love this always loved Marshall’s and Winners so this is super helpful thanks The Deal Guy!!!! 🤑🤑🤑🤑
I'm telling you. When I sneak to Marshall's around 11 (before the lunch rush) I always find the newest stuff. J have had to ban myself from here and TJMaxx because I buy so much.
By sneak I mean, I either take lunch break early or I'm stopping by on the way in to a meeting. Depending on the day lol
Good tip Jacob!! Hahaha you have to ban yourself, very funny
Thanks for the tips!❤👍
