The DOWN Command - Robert Cabral Dog Training #15
Вставка
- Опубліковано 25 тра 2016
- This video is about teaching your dog the DOWN command. This can be done by shaping the behavior and rewarding. In this video I use food as a lure and reward and work through the basic position of DOWN and how it should look.
Later I explain how the use of a toy can speed up the process. Also addressed is how to prevent a dog from being very pushy or mouthy for the treat!

My Dobermann knows basic commands but does them when he sees fit, good videos, clear instructions and interesting content, will keep practicing, thanks Robert.
Same here with my 16 week old euro. How have you two progressed?
I teach stand to my pet dogs for at least two reasons, grooming and vet visits. Also, it's one more item to make a well rounded dog.
The best part of watching this video was my 5 month old puppies was listening and watching too! Laugh all you want people but he does this in class and when he does it I find he learns the commands better.
my dog will do the same loves to watch then will do it at scholl and lovs tv

Best trainer . Love from india ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Good Job Training!
Just want to say thx Robert! I’ve been slackin big time with the training of my Black Lab over the last 2 1/2yrs. I’ve tried many “styles” with high fail rate. I decided to sink my teeth into your style & after 3 weeks he’s a different dog. I’m going hard with obedience working towards a waterfoul dog for hunting!!
Good morning sir at present I'm seeing ur all clips in utub and teaching my dog I feel esear to teach I want to be ur member please tell me what I have to do please sir

Good boy goofy i like watching him.
Great 👍
Nice
Robert, thank you for your videos! I just subscribed.
Welcome!
Thx it helped a lot now my only knows how to sit
My dobie is so elastic she bends forward on her toes to avoid lying down . We have sit, wait and stay to a T, indoors. OK on leash outdoors. Recall and Down elude us. Trying to bring more hand signals into play with sit and wait commands. We're having great fun but vaguely concerned that she's holding back for more play time. Thanks for the ideas
Thank you
Can you please tell me how many times we need to learn the dog
awesome video
Can you do a video about training a dog to sit safely load and unload from the car safely for trips and such. I'm really struggling and would like to take my dog out more
I will cry watching this, I have a 2 month old whirlwind furry piranha that just won't calm down.
He is very intelligent though and picks up things very quickly but puppy phase is difficult
I love ur training system..it's awesome..
How to teach a fast down to my 5 months old Malinois puppy? Plzz make a video. Tq sir
follow the puppy down video.
Is there a video on how to teach the dog to go back on the down versus coming up? Same for the sit command?
What a nice and informative video. Straight to the point, how to do it and how not to do it. Thank you, I've learned a lot.
3:00 I see, thanks. I never thought of that. Learned. What if he paw at it?
I like telling my puppy "easy" too, when I want her to calm down, or play gentle with me or my other puppy.
It would probably help more if you had some videos with dogs that don't already know the commands by heart.
there are several videos on this channel that are learning as we go. its best to show the obedience with dogs that know it so that you can see what it should look like. that is why i did it this way.
MehGUN BuRgeR go rot in hell, dubious heathen.
Hello
agreed..your dog is already trained. No help in showing a trained dog how to sit/down
Guys it’s not that hard, I’m happy he’s doing it this way. So that we see the right way to do it.
Any videos of the first session?
YAY THANKS SOOOOOOOOO MUCH EEEEE THANKS I SOOOOO NEED TO HUG U THANKS
This dog is already trained. I'm working with a 16 week old Fox Red Lab puppy. Huge Difference!
I’ve a Belgian malinois. 15 month old, a female very very stubborn. I’m from France and i watch all tour vidéos.it helps me very much.
Sir give me tips for faetch
I’m adopting a dog next week. Totally untrained. 😳
Your video is the best training vid I’ve seen yet.
Thank you! Subscribed 👍👍👍
THANKS AGAN😇 UR THE BEST I NEED TO HUG U
I have impressed your training mathod
My 3 month old (12 week) boston terrier has learned "sit", "stay', and "come". She doesnt RELEASE from "sit" or "stay" until I say "come", (Great pup!) but this command, even bringing treats all the way to the floor, she just doesnt understand or want to "lay down".
my puppy doesn’t want to lay down neither
You have to ask yourself why from their point of view. It may not come naturally due to their specific anatomy. Maybe they're getting less
O2 from the shortened nose to the trachea and their large upper body mass. Maybe a different style is in order for some pups.
Dear Robert
I love your videos. And you are the greatest trainer on UA-cam for sure.
I just got a lab puppy 2 month old. I want to know what should be the first 3 command s that i should teach him.
Come
Stay
Leave it.
Robert Cabral thanks for the response.
But your dogs listen to you
My puppy does not
We're having difficulty getting our GSD rescue to pay attention to us as we train. We have his favorite toys and treats, but would rather be on the looking what's "beyond us" instead of focusing on us. He's a ok listener indoors but once we go outside he loses focus on us. Any tips?
I have a male Malinois.
Which length is the chain you are using?
And why a medium link instead of a long or short link chain?
Do golendoodle please😁😇🥺
5:40 Nice
How do you correct an older dog who was taught to down but does a down off to the side (legs are not underneath him) i want to correct this as it is completely sloppy. Cheers
I agree have a dog who is unruly I have a 13 month mastiff that will not come back but will charge me and want to play he knocks me down not fun helppppppp
Two questions 1) Do you feel Malinois are a little more difficult to train than other breeds?? 2) I'm sure you've answered this question many times but is Goofy a Malinois? Thank you for your time.
The down command - with Dr.Ross Geller
THANKS😁😇♥️ I NEED A HUG HES LIEING YAYOMG
Hi Robert, your videos are just great. Ive had a rescue dog for 3months now & he's 15months old. He knows sit & stay & now teaching him "down". He does the lazy sit which I'm wondering if he'll grow out of. He was abused a lot when he was younger & wasn't trained at all. Thanx & I love learning from you.
so i teached my dog the wrong Platz from a sit into a down.. how can i correct this behavior? when she stands and i stop she automatically sits. and when i say Platz she always does a sit first. (also from germany btw)
I have tried several times to lure my puppy down and she keeps just following me with her head nothing i do seems to make her body go lower, will try with the platform next.
I have a serious question and if I want to ask you, where can I?
I have a now two year old mastiff and he has zero aggression and his pinch collar is just jewelry for him now. But I know I need to get him over his fear. And the pinch collar is great he turned my pup from pulling me every where. Am I right to think he sees the pinch collar as something that would make him uncomfortable and he knows when it will happen. I need a lot of getting my self into shape but it is my dog comes before my pain. I know I just have to get him to see that noise he hears are no big deal. I am working around my disability and I don't want to force him to just listen and look...am I thinking right. I'm thinking of getting an ecollar because I want to get him off the leash safely!!! For all!! I wish I was your neighbor but I borrow a lot of sugar. I don't want to push him and end up messing him up. Love to you and yours!
My dig to dumd it 4 moths old can he do it¿ I need to now tell me because he won’t lie down help☹️Please
May I ask, do you ever find a problem using the release word, "yes," rather than a word like, "free?" For example, if you are saying yes in conversation and they think you're talking to them?
Understood the food lure and the lead part but he didn't really teach how or when he integrated to vocal command. My puppy drops down but I have to put my hand on the ground in front of him. I would like to teach him to do it without needing me to physically do anything.
Goofy is such a good boy! What do you think a good age to get a GSD neutered?
after one year if need be!
hi Robert I just lost my dog form a snake bite, and a I'm thinking of buying another dog. I'm looking at either a dutch or belgian shepherd. which of this two breed is easier to train?? thanks, TOR
depending on your training ability and what you want to do with the dog, I would lean toward a Malinois
Hi Rob, at 3.15 when you push the treat into the dogs mouth, will it not upset or make the
dog angry?
no, it is a correction for taking the treat too roughly.
One of my rough collies is a little nippy about treats. I hold it till she is more gentle about taking it, is that ok or should I do what you recommended?
I made the mistake of teaching my female german shepherd the sit then down sequence. How do i reverse this? She will not lay down.
Sir Robert, may i ask if is it okay if me and my dog have our own language compared to using the english language? I know this question maybe weird but I was thinking of using a made up language for the commands where only me and my dog can understand. Tnx
sure!
Showing how you “teach” a trained grown up dog is just as helpful as saying you first teach down then sit.
This dog has a bigger play drive than food drive. That's the shepherd genetics.
And before someone with incomplete understanding says that si a Malinois, yeah which is one of the three Belgian Shepherds.
Salam sir can you tell me which treat you are using for training ?
string cheese or lamb jerky
Wanna see the e colla training....
its here...
Hi! So my malinois is 4 months old, and I can't make her move her back legs instead of the front when doing sit and lay commands. Any tips?
I don't understand your question.
@@RobertCabralDogs so, in your video you said that the back feet need to move/jump forward when sitting and backward when laying down. My doggo is moving her front legs. Any tips on how I can learn her to move her back legs not front
push her butt forward to "tuck it under."
I have a dachshund - this method of shaping will not work because her legs are too short - any tips?
we also have a dachshund and it worked on him...
@@RobertCabralDogs Hah! OK, back to the drawing board, then! Thanks so much for your response.
How do you teach a dog drop/down from a recall or fetch?
My worst nightmare is being outside playing with her then all of a sudden a blazing car comes out of nowhere and she doesn't have time to turn around when called. Disaster.
"What if" saftey scenarios like this keep me up at night. Ugh.
Check my video Down on recall.
@@RobertCabralDogs i did after posting this ironically lol
It was a life saver and we started practicing immediately
♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️😇♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
