I respect David Benoit, I'm sorry, but the kid is delusional if he thinks he is going to pay tribute to his dad by going under the name "Chris Benoit Jr.". In my honest opinion, David Benoit should go under the name "David Toffoloni" as a tribute to his stepmother, Nancy Toffoloni (AKA Nancy Benoit) because Toffoloni was Nancy's maiden name before she got married to Jim Daus, Kevin Sullivan and Chris Benoit himself.
He looks exactly like his father (if his father was like 5 inches taller and off the juice) so I'm not sure that the name really matters. He's unmistakably Benoit's son.
@@catnip8896 Yea, but he shouldn't honor his father. It's insane that he wants to. His father killed his goddamn mother and baby brother for fucks sake. He should stop being a fucking mark.
thejoeycos It’s his fucking dad. If he wants to wrestle with the name Chris Benoit let him. Nancy wasn’t his mother btw and he wants to honor his old man so leave him be
thejoeycos His dad killed his step mom and half brother but you also have to think about what they’d think. Nancy was in the business herself and loved David as if he were her son as well. Daniel loved his brother and also dreamed to become a wrestler. You’d think that they’d want David to pursue his dreams no matter what and not be held back by something he had nothing to do with. However, with how his dad still killed them, I don’t know.
The problem is, as Cornette says, it's impossible to keep something like tha a secret now. Whether he uses the Benoit name or not, it will still be known that he's Benoit's son and (unfairly or not) the controversy and stigma associated with that will still be attacked to him.
Wonderfully thoughtfully answer by Jim. The people who hate Jim dont see this side of him. You can tell he's speaking from the heart and not heeling out. And I love Jim heeling out.
Here's my take on it. I support David and I think I understand where he's coming from. He knew his father as his hero and an amazing athlete. That within itself cannot be disputed. However, unfortunately and unfairly for David, society will never be able to separate his father's athletic legacy from the way he died. Unfortunately for David, there's no way he himself could ever be able to circumvent or reconstruct his father's legacy throughout any wrestling career he personally seeks out. If anything, it would probably be more detrimental attempting to use his father's name. David was completely innocent in all of this and I understand his grief and frustration. It's unfortunate that who he knew as his father is not the way the world sees him today. I don't think however, a career in wrestling is the best way to cope and I hope and pray he finds peace in a more appropriate and healthier way. ❤️✌️
Bless his heart David LOOKS so similar to his dad in the face. He doesn’t have the genes for it potentially as his dad may not have either as he was was on the gear from 18 according to that Dark Side Of The Ring
If he is 28 years-old, as thin as he is, he won’t be big enough until he is 30-31 at a minimum. He should have been weight training and wrestling since he was a teenager if he wanted to go in that direction. The online photos of him and Chris Jericho show that he is tall enough but too thin and unathletic looking.
Adolph Hitler Jr.? That would be an AWESOME GIMMICK. His finisher could be called "The Gas Chamber". Garaunteed heat. OJ Simpson Jr.? His finisher could be called, "The Glove That Doesn't Fit."
No way anyone major will book "Chris Benoit Jr". The name Benoit carries a LOT of negative stigma at this point. So I'd expect he'd need to find another name. Maybe Arn can give him permission to become yet another Anderson; then he can tag with CW Anderson in the NWA, form a new Wrecking Crew. WWE most likely will not sign David Benoit at all, and Chris Jericho is on record as trying to block David from entering the business, so AEW is out, and likely NJPW as well. So he'd have to try for MLW, ROH, Impact, or NWA or some similar mid tier national.
The name Benoit alone will scare off almost every sponsor, advertiser, and merchandise outlet. No promotion will be able to make much (if any) money off of it.
@@irvinmorales1409 well, what Del Rio did is definitely very bad but is still more tolerable for the sponsors than a double murder even more if a child is one of the victims
I feel so bad for the kid. I understand why he wants to honor his dad's good parts, but that name brings up horrible memories and immense sadness for what could've been if his father hadn't gone off the deep end.
To poor David's detriment, he looks a lot like his dad too. No-one could ever look at him and not see Chris. Maybe if he wrestled as a masked luchadore and left all head-based offense out of his move set. (Especially the diving headbutt.)
Names that would work for him and still honor his dad: • Pegasus (or any other Greek mythological character/creature) • Dave Badgers (his father was The Wolverine) • The Crippler (or some variety) It's really sad that his family name has been dragged through the mud. I'd love for this guy to wrestle under his birth name.
It’s not just proverbially a “no win” situation for the young man. It’s literally a no win situation. I mean, Like Corny said, You gotta stay away from the name. No matter what the kid does, He’s gonna hear the chants of “your dads a murderer” That’s not what someone would want to hear. Taking the Pegasus Kid name won’t work either. It wouldn’t take long for the smart marks to put two and two together. I’m glad I’m not him! But, If I were, I’d stay as far away as possible
I also think he'd carry the stigma of having to be booked as a face everywhere because having him called by a different name won't matter, and him acting like a heel would drum up his father in the audience's mind. Okay, he could probably be heel after he's 40rs, but he needs to develop a gut, and wear metallic tie dye shirts with the buttons open.
Even though I still consider Chris to be one of my favorite wrestlers, I agree going by "Chris Benoit Jr" would be a bad idea. And there's no way Vince would let it anywhere near WWE.
Even without the murders, even if Chris Benoit had a wonderful career and retired... going in as Chris Benoit Jr. is an uphill battle because Benoit was good. It’s a lot to live up to but also a lot to avoid the “you only got signed because of your dad” accusations. Should that be how the world is? No. Is it? Yes. On top of that, he wants to use a name that one company won’t even say anymore? He’s choosing it? Yeah. That’s not smart.
Yeah but she isn't Jimmy Snuka Jr.... also don't they mostly just refer to her by her first name? I know WWE use to like to do that with all of the women, which is ridiculous and corny.
I saw the interview he did with Van Vliet, yeah it's hard to say to someone you can't do this not because you don't want them to do said thing but you know said thing will just break him more.
He is clearly on the autism spectrum and wanting to call himself Chris Benoit jr is the childish naivety that comes with it. That whole interview was like talking to a shy 8 year old.
@Steven Bristol If you didn’t see his Interview, then you have no idea what your talking about. David Benoit has a very good job working on the Oil Rigs in Alberta Canada. He’s a big boy I’m sure he’ll do what he wants to do. He’ll probably sign with AEW. He was persona non grata with WWE because he posted a photo of him with Tony Khan. When WWE saw that he was banned from visiting his friends in the backstage area.

But already having Benoit and looking like his dad is a big shadow to have, but becoming a junior is fucking insane. Like I can kinda get why, because he wants to honor who his dad was but you have to remember what your dad was remembered as. Be David Benoit, and…don’t really mention your dad. We’d all know but it’s really not something you can embrace.
It's sad that people forget that yes Chris was his dad and he did awful deeds, but David also lost his dad , half-brother and mother figure in one swoop. Having to deal with that lose and they way it happened and then having to bear all that weight and burden on his shoulders . He is a survivor of a tradgy that he will never get over what happened that day he shouldn't be punished if he wants to remember the father he knew. Not the monster he was for those couple of days .
In New Mexico, Native American heel wrestlers used to have to wrestle under a mask when they had shows on the Rez. If they did not, they would have too much legit heat with fans trying to kill them. This was back in the 70's and 80's. I heard this from the late "Rapid" Ricky Romero who was a 70's star in the Southwest. He was the father of The Youngbloods tag team.
Here's a thought, maybe David Benoit could wrestling under a mask and revive the gimmick The Pegasus Kid as a tribute to Chris Benoit (but not bring up his name).
He will never make it in the business without a name change and a mask. He looks a lot like his dad. He should be allowed to make it on his own merit, but what happened is a black spot in the business.
Don't make the guy wear a mask I understand the name thing but the poor guy can't help what he looks like people are just gonna have to get past it and if he's really good I think they will get past it
He can be Wild Pegasus Jr,. Pegasus II, Chris Angel, Fallen Pegasus, Pegasus Angel, Rabid Pegasus, "Wild" Dave Angel, Ben Ward...Crispin Ward, David Daniels, Ben Chris, Chris BenSon... *I JUST WANT HIM TO SUCCEED IN LIFE* !!!
I really like how respectful Cornett was. It was really nice of him to say "hey go for it, but..." instead of something like "HOW DARE HE WHAT THE FUCK"
From the comments David has made in interviews you can see when he thinks of as his dad hes sees the good in him and the good he had done in his career when the rest of the world sees Chris as a family annihilator. Not just that but also murdered a special needs son. David can't look at it the same way everyone does. David doesnt look at the situation as the only reason he is alive because he wasnt over at his dad's house at the time. David has even said he expects Chris to go into the HOF sooner rather than later when in reality it's a 99.999% never.
He shouldn’t be blacklisted because of his dad. He shouldn’t use Chris Benoit Jr but David Benoit would be fine. He was his son. He was affected more than anyone by his fathers actions. If he wants to use the Benoit name he has the right. You’re not going to be able to hide the fact he’s his son and you can’t forbid him from wrestling because of stuff his dad did.
Regardless of how determined or casual David might be about becoming a pro wrestler, him being who he is, the son of Chris Benoit, will allow some doors to open for him quite easily, while others will be even harder to open than they would be for some average joe. He could and definitely will get signed by independents and maybe even AEW without having much experience or dues paid, but to become the face of a company, or sign with WWE will most likely be incredibly difficult. It will be hard for him for sure regardless of what happens in his wrestling career.
If David would like to pay tribute to his dad, he could do so under a mask as the "Pegasus Kid". I would love to see David Benoit debut in AEW, partner with Brian Pillman Jr. & Brock Anderson, all managed by Tully Blanchard.
He could wrestle as ''Chris Benoit'' saying the whole murder thing was a wrestling angle and he actually IS Chris Benoit himself and was just hiding for over 10 years. He didn't age thanks to a healthy smoothie diet or something but just lost his roided up gainz over that time. That would be badass storyline!!
Does anyone know why he didn't graduate from Lance storms training academy? He mentioned going to the school but he also said he didn't finish and no one asked him why.

If David Benoit wants to "honor" his father, the best I think he could do is put on a mask like Jim said and be Pegasus Kid 2.
That "ooooh" reaction from Jim is pretty much the same reaction I had. Have to feel for David. He's in a tough situation and it's not because of anything he's done, but rather just who he is. Jim and Brian make some good points here.
It really does have the potential to haunt him in the business for the rest of his life, using the name or not. I wish the best for him, because he did nothing wrong and shouldn't be punished for it.
@@wallyhavoc860 That guy is a phony. He's been talking about being wrestler for over a decade but never shows up for training or does any matches.
@@zippymufo9765 Either way, I stand behind what I said IF he happens to give it a try.
@@wallyhavoc860 He won't. Some Canadian indie promotion announced they had signed him to "wrestle at least one match", which sounds like they weren't even sure he could do anything. They said "He is no longer with us and is working on a oil rig" 😂 He just wants someone to pay him for being Benoit's son.

I really like this idea. That said, if he wants to do this, he’s going to have a really tough road.
Much better idea.
That’s actually a wonderful idea.
He looks exactly like his father (if his father was like 5 inches taller and off the juice) so I'm not sure that the name really matters. He's unmistakably Benoit's son.
tmage23 David Benoit would be fine mostly anywhere except wwe. Chris benoit jr on the other hand is a horrible idea to go with.

thejoeycos It’s his fucking dad.
However, with how his dad still killed them, I don’t know.
i think he should maybe use his mother's maiden name instead. because i think he will get a mixed reaction using the benoit name.
People will cheer just because of the name and people will boo just because of the name.
This is on point.
The problem is, as Cornette says, it's impossible to keep something like tha a secret now. Whether he uses the Benoit name or not, it will still be known that he's Benoit's son and (unfairly or not) the controversy and stigma associated with that will still be attacked to him.
Triple H has already said he had no problem using the last name Benoit or make him wear a mask
It really sucks for this kid, but he’s starting out a million miles behind the starting line

^I'm just joking about this stuff obviously. But I could just imagine VKM: "I LOOOOOVE IT PAL!"

So sad about Chris Benoit my favorite. Hope his son lives a long good happy life.
The name Benoit alone will scare off almost every sponsor, advertiser, and merchandise outlet. No promotion will be able to make much (if any) money off of it.
TheUnknownOne there are stupid promoters who would do it though.
Lots of indy shows just to sell tickets that don't care about sponsors
The top companies (WWE, AEW, NJPW,) yes but you gotta imagine there’s some random indie promotion who’d do it just for the free promo
I mean, there was recently a show where Alberto del Rio was wrestling even after all the crap he did. Most people don't care really.
Names that would work for him and still honor his dad:
• Pegasus (or any other Greek mythological character/creature)
• Dave Badgers (his father was The Wolverine)
• The Crippler (or some variety)
It's really sad that his family name has been dragged through the mud. I'd love for this guy to wrestle under his birth name.
You know what? Why not? Use the name. People will eventually come to their senses and realize he’s not his father. If he wants to wrestle, let him.
Too many strikes.
Jim reaction to him wanting to use his name 😂😂😂
Call him Wild Pegasus Jr. That was Benoit's name when he got put on the map during his run in Japan which got him signed by WCW.
Even though I still consider Chris to be one of my favorite wrestlers, I agree going by "Chris Benoit Jr" would be a bad idea. And there's no way Vince would let it anywhere near WWE.
It's not just the Benoit name. Chris's in ring skill level is rarely matched which I guess will also work against David.
That fucking Benoit. I don't get guys like that. If you want to off yourself, fine. But why take your spouse and/or kids with you?
Yeah it is a really fucked thing he did, however I think Benoit had completely lost his mind when he was doing it.

He should absolutely go for wrestling if that’s what he wants. He shouldn’t use his dad’s name.
Yeah it would be dumb for anyone to use their dads name who was also in wrestling
Aaron Guerrieri Not necessarily. But it would be dumb for Chris Benoit’s son to do so.
he can do it because his second name is Christopher, just like his dad so basically they have the same name
In the era of promos getting personal, someone talking trash to David could really go nuclear with some Dad references.
If he has the skill, training, and genetic talent; it's his choice not those in the comments to decide for him
Even without the murders, even if Chris Benoit had a wonderful career and retired... going in as Chris Benoit Jr. is an uphill battle because Benoit was good.
Thanks for posting this video. Great thoughts from Jim C.

I could've seen the original ECW doing it. Heyman did a lot of risky things.

It wasn’t proved that Chris really done it!
I believe they were murdered and made to look like that!!!!
If he was a good wrestler they could figure something out. But he hasn’t caught on anywhere and now he wants to do this...screams of attention.
Don't make the guy wear a mask I understand the name thing but the poor guy can't help what he looks like people are just gonna have to get past it and if he's really good I think they will get past it
Brian Pillmans case was forgivable. He only harmed himself in the end and is still well remembered. That's why his son isn't getting flack.
David needs to bulk up to stand a chance. He's a naturally small, skinny, dude. Using Benoit in general is a big no-no.

He shouldn’t have to pay for his father’s sins. Common Mr. 🍌 give him a break !
Wanting to be named Chris beniot Jr is ridiculous. He's basically asking to be blacklisted
"everyone"
Spotted the liar.
I hate to agree but I can only watch Eddie vs Chris to this day as well
