    finally bassist start to get out of the traditionnal comfort zone of the quiet clean tone they used for everything since the release of the p-bass.

      less is more.
      it's hard to headbang to complicated shred solos but this kind of simple and powerful riffs does the trick.

      +A bowl of Miso soup my point was about the role the bass i playing (main) and the tone used.
      not the style of writing. but you're basically right.

      Walter Webb do you know other bands that are like that?
      white stripes sounds like it but other bass heavy bands like muse or red hot chili peppers aren't exclusive to the bass.
      But I'd love to be proven wrong and discover new bass only bands, go ahead

    That footwork at 2:14 is very impressive!!
    The off-board TU-2 is muting the 2nd fake guitar right, the one with a bit more of a 'raspy' distortion? Hadn't realised until watching you do that how important that 2nd guitar can be, really adds to the mix when you kick it back in at 2:34.
    Love your Royal Blood covers though. Inspired me to buy a Micro POG and a small guitar amp and give it a go! I'm not quite going down the 2 POG2s route yet (although I'd very much like to!), but some stereo splitting somewhere along the line ought to get me close enough :)

    • @adamflanaganmusic
      @adamflanaganmusic  9 років тому +5

      Thanks man, many years practising those footsteps! :-p
      Good stuff, I'm glad I've inspired! :-) In all honesty, one pog2 would do the trick unless your sound absolutely depends on it. Usually the 2nd pog on my board is just for the bass signal so I can do sub-octave bass or chorus sounds and then the other one is dedicated to the guitar sound. Dynamically it does work really well with both of them doing L/R guitar sounds which is why its configured for these videos but otherwise in a standard band line-up, just the one split signal willl do the trick!

    • @mattholland0202
      @mattholland0202 9 років тому

      Adam Flanagan Yeah that was the plan, but I've got the facility to split the guitar signal into two, so I might give it a try :) Doing the octave up with a MicroPog rather than the Pog2 though, don't have the need (or the money) to go for the bigger option!
      What effects are on each of the guitar channels out of interest?

    This is an awesome cover, good work! Choosing the tones and effects to use for a Royal Blood cover can be quite subjective, but I think the cover could've done with a little fatter bass-sound, maybe add a slight overdrive into to the signal path? Or maybe boost the mids and bass? While I'm not quite sure what your options are, I'm just trying to give you some ideas for future covers that you may do with the new Royal Blood album around the corner and all. Very nice drumming. Have a good day! :)

    For anyone with the Mustang LT50 fender amp, the garage fuzz preset that comes loaded into the amp sounds really similar to Royal Blood tone and is a great place to start if you want an easy solution to finding that tone.

    Hey fantastic video! I've just discovered Royal Blood and this is an amazing cover! I have some questions though as im wanting to try this kind if setup out. What amps are you using and are you using the Boss Bass Overdrive pedal? Is your overdrive sound coming purely from the guitar amps or through the bass amp as well or is that just clean bass? Thanks!

    This is INTENSELY wicked!! Question, though, not just for Mr. Flanagan here but also for anyone who might be able to answer--I notice that from 2:18 onward, you play the line an octave lower than Mike Kerr does (to my ear, anyway!). I myself can't figure out (no pun intended) another way to play that bit in the "right" octave unless I tune my D string up to E (or something along those lines). Do you know what Kerr might've done there? Some further octave-up effect or different tuning? Thanks to anyone who can answer--trying to learn this for my own bass/drum duo! :)

    • @adamflanaganmusic
      @adamflanaganmusic  7 років тому

      Hi, as far as I'm aware, its just the same pedal for the octave effect (POG2) but set 2 octaves above the original signal. He does this just for the studio recording (as you'll hear it as an overdub with all the other usual stuff in the mix). When performed live, he just does the line an octave up (as I've done here)

    Your videos are great, I'm glad I found a bassist who "figured out" Royal Blood's sound! One small question: Do you know if the POG2 is significantly better than the regular POG to get that guitar sound?

    • @adamflanaganmusic
      @adamflanaganmusic  9 років тому

      Cheers dude :-D
      I'm not what the actual differences between the two are mechincally but the pros for the POG2 would be the size, saving presets and I would imagine the processing would be better as well. Although Mike probably just uses the same presets throughout, we definitely know by the record that there are some overdubs done with two octaves above (compare the studio recording of the middle section of Figure it Out to the Live version) and 'Hole' has the really cool fading in/organ tones as well.
      I might keep an eye on the markets for the original POG cos it would be great to see what the diffefences could be for the sound! Thanks for watching!

    • @LeTendonBass
      @LeTendonBass 9 років тому +1

      Thanks for your answer! Another question crossed my mind: You use two POG2, but said that one is only for the lower octave on the bass path, is that right? I want to make a similar setup, but would have no use in an octaver for the bass sound. I just wasn't sure whether the second pog was used to get an even higher octave on the guitar sound. Those things are damn expensive, if I can avoid buying two I'd be glad xD

    • @adamflanaganmusic
      @adamflanaganmusic  9 років тому

      LeTendonBass
      No worries. Normally that's how I would run my board for a show, so one exclusively for fake guitar and the lower one would be for bass effects like sub-octave, chorus etc In this video I use the two POGs to create double track guitars (hard left and right) to make a bigger sound for the video.
      So unless you're playing in a RH setup, just get one and use that for fake guitars or of course any other effects that you can find with the pedal. Hope that helps!

    • @LeTendonBass
      @LeTendonBass 9 років тому

      That helps a lot! Thank you very much for taking the time to answer my questions. Cheers & rock on :)

      fuzz pedal I'd imagine so, but its one less thing to buy if a Boss TU-2 and LS-2 will do the trick for the sake of this video. You can also use the volume controls on the LS-2 to control the sound as well if its hitting pedals or the amp too much which has been helpful when I've used it for switching from an active to a passive bass for example
