+mostafa tawfeek You obviously haven't driven it. I've driven the Passat and also this - the Insignia (with 170 diesel) is quieter. The difference is less obvious at rest/tickover. Its when you get up and running that you notice that the engine can hardly be heard at all, very smooth, and effortless torque. The Insignia (170bhp) also has more power than the Passat (150bhp), and the Insignia also has 400Nm torque compared to the Passat's 350Nm.
thanx for the advice i have Mitsubishi Lancer evo and its so quite i heard this videos's voice and i thought its much louder but gotta have a test drive
+mostafa tawfeek No worries mate. I agree on this vid it appears a bit loud as picked up by the microphone under acceleration, but driving the car in real life the engine can hardly be heard especially when travelling at any real speed and especially cruising on motorways. Oddly enough there are UA-cam vids out there that celebrate the "sound" of the Alfa Romeo with the JTD MulitiJet engine, how wonderful it sounds, and "this is how a diesel engine sports car should sound". Thing is that Opel-Fiat jointly developed the Common Rail Diesel and the first passenger vehicle to use it was an Alfa Romeo 156 in 1997. Very very quick and at the time some dubbed it "the Golf GTi beater". Opel used the same engine in its cars including the Vectra in 16v 150bhp form with circa 330Nm torque. This has been tweaked last few years in the Insignia to be 160/163bhp with circa 350Nm torque. And more recently Opel did a major overhaul to make it smoother/quieter whereby they claim to have reduced noise and "secondary vibration" by something like 80% in their re-vamped 168/170bhp "Whisper" diesel although its mainly on the move the you can tell the difference. Given financial woes for both Fiat and Opel they sold the technology to Bosch a few years ago who sold it on to everybody else including the likes of BMW etc. So if you have a car with a Common Rail engine then oddly enough to some extent or other you may have Fiat/Opel to thank. By the way your Mitsibushi Lancer Evo seems a cool-as-anything car - Enjoy!
