    Ive had a 1.8 petrol for 5 years done 50k miles taking it up to 85k and apart from tyres and brakes i have just had to replace water pump and thermostat sensor. A very reliable car.

      I just bought one and your comment is a bit of a relief. Ive had a few problems on mine. Ive talen it back twice. Had a new oil pump fittes due to low oil pressure. Few codes have popped up n had plugged in. Can also see underneath that it has had a previous water leak as dry coolant can be seen underneath..not leaking water now so must have been done but the water pump is common on them. Its a lovely car and stylish. And it shifts too!

    I disagree with Rebeccas opening remarks, that "the Insignia has never been the most exiting car on the market". Actually I think, it has been one of the best looking cars in its class, since it was released. Not as spacious as a Skoda Superb, not as well handling as a BMW 3-series and not as cheap to run as a Toyota Avensis. But a car, that you bought exactly for style and luxury. A bit like an Audi A4.

      z00h You are allowed to have a different opinion, but I will stick to mine. The Insignia was a big success on its realease, and the majority of Insignias have been sold with big alloy wheels and a high level of equipment. Which to me confirm, that I am right about its place in the market. The new petrol and diesel engines are among the best in the market. So all that Opel (and GM) need to do now, is to get rid of the excess weight. And that will hopefully happen in the next generation of Insignia and Astra.

      Cars designed by committees are like gray suits/uniforms. They can be stylish and luxurious; but forever bland and impersonal.

    • @00kirbyd
      @00kirbyd 11 років тому +4

      Arthur TheSemiDutch
      You can say the exact same thing about Audis or BMWs then. Vauxhalls aren't bland because they sell in big numbers, they're not impersonal because the brand and the griffin mean something to the majority of British motorists.

    • @apalsenberg
      @apalsenberg 11 років тому

      00kirbyd Yes, you could say the same about most German car makers; of which Vauxhall (Opel) is part of. That you have a soft spot for Vauxhall is down to good marketing on their part. They are impersonal cars for the masses/sheeple; like gray suits and Katie Perry music.
      :-p

      @CottferLAD22 10 років тому

      Have to reduce by proportion, which seems to be about one third in view of manufacturers' gross exaggerations. No way can a car of the mass of an Insignia do 70 mpg in normal, even careful, driving, even with a diesel.

      @TheKenjoje 10 років тому

      CottferLAD22 of course. the one could follow real-world tests on many car sites. those who 'know people who know people' are in dilussion. most of people relies too much on trip comp and doesn't know how to calculate exactly. for example: www.whatcar.com/car-news/real-world-mpg-economical-family-cars/1223365 - the best result is 66. these cars are a class smaller than insignia.

    She says that there is plenty of headroom in the back, but I have to disagree. She's not exactly the tallest of people yet her head would be hitting the roof if she wanted to rest it against the headrest. Vauxhall have made a HUGE design flaw here in trying to make the car aesthetic and aerodynamic they have compromised comfort in the back seat. That is unless you're the individual who enjoys awkwardly contorting his or her spine for the duration of a car journey.

    • @markrl75
      @markrl75 5 років тому

      Absolutely correct the headroom in the back was so limited in many cities they could not be registered as Taxis thus killing one of the cars largest potential markets.

    Rented a top model of this car (diesel and auto gearbox) and drove for more than 600miles in a week. Good engine, equipment and dash, but poor rear visibility and odd-shaped side mirror that led to some misjudgment of distance (much worse than conventional square mirrors), easy to drive although not fun, some interior material feels cheap, huge boot but back seat uncomfortable, new facelift not bad to look at but rear indicating light seemed not bright enough

      @00kirbyd 11 років тому

      GM will never admit this, but it seems obvious to my contact who works in the motor trade down under, that Opel was forced out by Holden, because they didn't want them lowering their prices to match theirs - and being a direct competitor.
      There's no way they could've failed if they'd only been in the country for 12 months. My contact tells me that Peugeot and Volkswagen have dropped their prices signifcantly recently, in an effort to drive sales. Holden to be honest should be rebranded Opel (although i'd prefer Vauxhall of course), as all they seem to do is rebadge either Suzukis, Chevrolets or Opels.

Vauxhall has a lot to do with Opel and GM, they design a lot of cars over here and they build a couple (astra for example).

      Opel is the original, Vauxhall is just a UK brand.

    Great car. But they must be so sick of this boring, repetitive presenting style. Yes the facts are clearly presented, but it's like stocking shelves at a supermarket - you don't want to do it forever.

      @@andylie7699 Toyota reliability blah blah blah. You don't need a car which is really really reliable you need a car that is reliable and more premium feeling for the same price.

    • @behemothokun
      @behemothokun 10 років тому

      Sure, owned by GM, but designed and built in europe. The Opel Insignia for example, just like the Corsa and Adam is built in Rüsselsheim, Germany. Some Astra models are built in poland, don't even compare this to the american production.
