    i love this mate, i brought my wb almost the same month you started this project all those years ago, i did a budget resto back in the day with the money i had as an apprentice now ive been a qualified auto electrician for a few years and im in a good stage were ive brought a house and have the abillity to give the old girl the resto she deserves. id love to see this thing in person one day i honestly feel like ive grown with this this ute, when shes done id happily do a road trip to see her at a show.

      @@Rafiki_lec Thanks mate, can’t believe you’ve restored yours, done an apprenticeship and qualified and I’m still going on this resto! She’s definitely taken some time but nearing the end now, definitely be keen to go for a cruise with the WBs at some stage, it will definitely be at the WB ute muster in Echuca next year and the Hanging Rock car show as well!

    Pretty much only way to do a first start cold 🥶 after 12 months sitting is pull out spark plugs wind it over until your oil pressure gauge starts to reach its maximum before starting the engine as starting a dry engine will burn the bearings and seals you basically wanna see all the rockers wet with oil before starting it

    You WAT????? Had a baby?!? OMG Man. 😱 That means you've set the Ute's completion date forward by.... let me see... 2024... plus 18.... add 10.... 2034... add 6.... 2040.... add 2, 2042! Well at least Jack will have his licence by the time you take it for a first drive Barnesy 😁. (Ask me how I know 😉) Only yanking your chain, that is great news mate, congratulations to you and your partner. It's a special time. Damn hard work at times, but a unique time in our lives. I'll see you up at Hanging Rock then 😏 Great video content as usual.

    Great to see you back Barnesy. Congrats to your partner and yourself on the arrival of Jack, another part of your life begins now! Loved the detail given in the GTS dash, it looks fantastic, and also the ali radiator, that also looks great. Will be interesting to see how the fans cope with the heat. Another great episode and you are now so close to the end. Well done mate.

      Thanks on the gauges, I’m happy the hard work got the intended result in the end!

    Good work with the Sports Dash conversion Barnesy, it looks well done and I hope it sells up a storm. Prime your oil system and pump the carby full with fuel and it should start first turn. It has already been started so that should help. You have to be careful with the cam on first start up so do as the instructions say that would have come with it. That may have already been done on the dyno though. First start is always fun. I used a grease gun filled with oil and a fitting I made up that went on the oil pressure sender port with a grease nipple in it to prime the oil system. Keep pumping it in till it starts to run out of the sump drain then fill it with oil. My 253 is just about to click over 100,000km post re-build and I love it. Jeff

    • @BarnesysBuilds
      @BarnesysBuilds  6 місяців тому

      Thanks Jeff, that’s exactly why I’m keen to get an engine mechanic in to go over the process before it fires after siting for a while. The CAM and engine have been already broken in from the dunk session so that’s not an issue it’s more just making sure it’s all lubricated still.
      Thanks on the gauge kit design feedback, it was a big job and glad people see the value in them. Cheers

    Mate, congrats to you both on the new arrival. Looks like you'll need to sell that Ute now or at least put a bench seat in it lol. The spring on the brake line is a vibration dampener. They put them on the shorter line because they don't have as much flex as the long one. I've caught up to you on the HX Ute I'm building. Had my fire up last week and its very motivating. Keep pushing. BTW. Can't say how impressed I am with your engineering work on the dash, sensational work.

    • @BarnesysBuilds

      Ah great, Dan now I’ve left it off so I will have to think of something else I can slide on or wrap around. Well done on the HX, need the fire up to push the motivation. I did really think about the gauge designs and I thought a detailed review would show the thinking behind them so thanks for that.

    Getting close now.👍🏻
    It’s a bit hard to tell because of glare in the video, but it looks like you might have the firing order wrong with the leads on the distributor. May want to look into that or you will have issues trying to start it.

    • @BarnesysBuilds
      @BarnesysBuilds  6 місяців тому

      Thanks mate, I would say the leads are definitely incorrect as I was not sure based on the distributor numbers as they were in a different order than the diagram on the leads. The numbers went sequentially around clockwise on the Bosch distributor, I just looked under the cap at the numbers.

    • @danielbyrne9686
      @danielbyrne9686 6 місяців тому

      @@BarnesysBuildsthey don’t go on sequentially, they need to be installed following the firing order of the engine (1-2-7-8-4-5-6-3). The leads need to be in direction of rotation of the rotor button. No1 will be where the rotor button is pointing when cylinder one is on TDC on the firing stroke and the the rest of the leads are ordered as per the firing order.

    Congrats on the arrival of Jack. I remember those hectic first weeks with a baby too well. Are you just splicing into the factory dash wiring harness or custom making a new harness? I don’t have a GTS harness so I need to run a new harness or pay a premium for an original harness.

      I recall you are in central Victoria, cold winter mornings need a good blast of heat to clear up the windscreen.
      As I mentioned in a previous video, I plan to make my WB an electric vehicle. Unless you have battery cooling, you have to use an electric heater. I will be searching EV wreckers and eBay for one. If will take some messing around to work.
      I reckon you could make it look a whole lot better with a mix of steel piping and short lengths of rubber tube (and a few brackets). More like a BMW or Mercedes.
