  • A short video on how to rewire a Belmont/Kingswood dash to GTS. This mod for the ammeter is only for cars without electric fans, big stereos and high amp alternators. It is for standard setups. Vehicles with electric fans, etc, should have the ammeter converted to a Voltmeter or bypassed all together.

Hey Dave, I have a GTS dash as well in the sedan I’m restoring and it was never connected correctly. Q. When you cut the wires to your warning lights and use them elsewhere. Did you ever rewire the warning lights so that they still work? I’ve got a manual, I’ve got the CD from eBay. The only thing I don’t have is the confidence to actually do it. Cheers for the video.

I left the brake warning light as it's for the hand brake. I also left the warning light for tha alternator

Hey Davo Great video mate, Nice clear description of what to do with video of the wiring diagrams included.
I have the Factory Workshop Manual you were showing on PDF which will help when I attempt this job.
I have a 72 HQ Belmont ute that has a GTS dash already installed but only the fuel gauge works.
A previous owner put new (Repco) oil and temp gauges in that have been stuck under the dash on a crappy bracket.
Im about to start doing a restore to her over the summer and Id love to get the original gauges working again.
Any chance you can do a video of how to remove and reinstall the whole dash unit as I've never dont it before and am scared to start cos I dont want to stuff it up LOL
    Cheers Andy

It's a big job to remove. Just remember to take photos as you go,e.g. remove some bolts, take photo, remove a plug ,take a photo

I'm pretty sure the wiring from the body harness to the dash is the same. I think the engine bay wiring is different

Great video davo 👍. Im about to put statesman/Deville gauges into my belmont ute which is the stock fascia and am just wondering if the wiring and plugs are gunna be in dash to plug straight into the new gauges? Cheers

The wiring and plugs won't be there, they have to be added. It's easier with whole dash out, but can be done with it in

davo hq bugger! Nothing ever easy! Also on the back of the temp and oil pressure gauges they have connectors in a T formation with ok or dk and green written under them any idea which one is the sender blade and which is ignition?

@@Johnny_Mac_ not sure. I always check with the factory wiring diagrams. There is a disc available on eBay, about $12. It has all the factory manuals for Hq. It has a pic of a green ,front view Hq on it.

    Hey Dave, great video.
Obviously you’ve tested the dash and all works well ?

      @davohq1724  3 роки тому +1

Hi Anthony, I haven't tested it yet, but I'm very confident it will work as I'm an electrician. 🥶😜🤪😝. I'll test it once I have all the body wiring connected and motor running. It will be a good idea for another video.
The wiring diagrams are very basic in these old cars.

@@anthonybertilone4593 There are some wiring modifications that need to be done on the engine bay wiring loom for the ammeter to work. the changes are shown in the wiring diagrams of the work shop manual. I'll do another video soon to explain this.

Hey mate, great video am doing the same thing for my stato. Question re the fuse panel: if the additional port on number 5 is used by a radio add on, not my doing, how do I hook up the JW wire to it? Do I need to install a fuse block or something similar you might know of? Cheers in advance

Sorry, not sure as most cars wiring have been stuffed around with. You may have to talk to someone that understands the circuits, that can have a look at it.
