  • The U.S. Coast Guard has thousands of open positions they want to fill - but many are either unqualified to serve or just don't want to.
    Jason Beardsley, the National Executive Director of the Association of the U.S. Navy, said on NewsNation's "Morning in America" that the reasons for this lack of interest are systemic to our society right now.

      The hot women that want to serve their country, go to the Coast guard and the Air Force(and that's not to say that the other branches don't have hot women I'm just saying the majority go to the Air Force and Coast guard). And to this day the most beautiful woman I've ever seen in my life, with my own eyes, (and that's including Alicia Vikander and Avril Lavigne 2007) was a female NCO in the Air Force. So if you're straight then you're choosing your career wisely to start with.

    As an ex-reservist in the Coast Guard, it is the only branch I would consider today. When in, I had an attitude problem, I admit it. If going into the Coast Guard today, and they are undermanned, expect to work extra hours. If the Coast Guard is in an area where there is a natural disaster, hurricanes, storm, tropical storms, or floods, 12 hour days 6 days a week are a given. That may be an understatement.The videos I have seen of Boot Camp, show a much more demanding basic training than when I was in. I think it's a good thing, because at the end you feel you have accomplished more.

      @@eugeneg I was an FNMK. I never passed the test for 3rd Class Petty Officer. I was at Yerba Buena Island, in San Francisco for my last 2 1/2 years. This was decades ago. When I was in, federal funding was not good, and some people has to wait 2 1/2 years for A school. Some were told, they had to reenlist to get the school. It seems at times the Coast Guard is well funded, at other times it isn't. Before joining, find out what reserve stations are near you, and ask those in what it is like. Some reserve stations are better than others, and there is often dislike between reservists and full time active duty. The Army and Navy only made TEN PERCENT of their recruiting goals in 2022 and the other branches had similar dismal results. If the Coast Guard hasn't made their recruiting goals since 2018 and the other branches are also in the tank they might want to consider doing business differently or they will fail at their missions. In a related story as of 2022 Communist China now has the biggest army in the world and the second biggest navy and the third biggest air force and they are building nuclear weapons as fast as they can. I wonder why?

  • @1notgilty

    I have never understood the forced retirement age. Many experienced people are at their best and highest knowledge level and productivity in their 60's and 70's. Let's face it, after boot camp most people in the service will never have to run 1.5 miles in 12 minutes and 51 seconds again. I'd rather have an experienced 70+ year old pilot, doctor, lawyer, engineer, electrician, plumber, boatswain's mate, navigator, etc. with decades of experience any day of the week rather than someone decades younger with little training or experience. Perhaps the USCG and other branches or the service need to consider vastly increasing the retirement ages for experienced personnel.

    I would be more than willing to join the Coast Guard, but they are very discriminatory against people with color blindness.
    More than 95% of the jobs in the USCG are not even available for for people that are mildly, or even slightly red-green color blind. Which makes no sense, because even Health Services Technicians requires normal color blindness, yet everyday nurses in the civilian world do NOT mandate this requirement, and these are more or less the same job. Also, AMTs in the Air Force do NOT have this requirement either, whereas the Coast Guard does. Again, these jobs are virtually the same thing. The only jobs they allow you to do are administrative, cook, or public affairs.
    It's completely unfair. There are so many talented people out there wanting to join, but because of this innocuous normal color blind requirement, we are simply discriminated against.

    • @paulminjarez2
      @paulminjarez2 Рік тому

      Im colorblind and currently serving in the US Coast Guard. While i feel your pain, not everything you said is entirely correct. Currently there are 6 rates open to colorblind people. Marine Science Technitian, Store Keeper, Yeoman, Damage Controlman, Public Affairs Specialist, and Culinary Specialist. There are also opporunities to serve "out of rate" where you're essentially doing a job that isnt necessarily in your specific field. Happens all the time. I would highly recommend taking a Rabin Cone Test to gauge your level of color deficiency. Test into the 50th pecerntile and you're good to go with any rate. I almost joined another branch becuase i too was upset with the perceived limitations that color deficiency presents. Sticking with the Coast Guard is the best decision i ever made. Make no mistake, there is a reason our service has the highest retention rates. Sure the AF might let you wrench on helos or the Marines might let you do god knows what, but when you're living in the barracks as an E1-E5 and doing silly things like filling sandbags only to dump them out and refill them, you'll think about the Coast Guard and wonder "what if".

    • @1notgilty
      @1notgilty Рік тому +2

      Color blindness is VERY important in the Coast Guard and Navy. The red lights are on the port (left) side and the green lights are on the starboard (right) side of ships, boats and navigation buoys. If you get that wrong you crash and people die. That's very important and has nothing to do with discrimination.

    If you want that free college you're begging for how about joining the service and getting it free that way then say you serve 4 years you get out you can go to college the next 4 years on the military's dime and they will pay you a very handsome amount for monthly rent and food. And it's not a lie. In my area for a single person with no dependents I got almost 900 a month for rent and around $250 for food. If Biden wants to get his numbers up he should put an ad out that says if you want tuition free college join the Marines or join the Coast guard. You don't just get to get it for free though.
