Aerosmith has been around since the early 70's. Very prolific band. Check out "Dream On?"

This came out in 1986 and was the first rap song to reach the top 5 on the charts & essentially helped rap go mainstream before the Beastie Boys album became the first #1 later that year. It also revived Aerosmith’s career, as they hadn’t had a hit since the late 70s. Rick Ruben of Def Jam was the one that pushed for the collab. Run DMC weren’t Def Jam artists per se, but they were affiliated since Run & Russell Simmons are brothers. Rick was behind a lot of the hip hop hits from that era, including being a big influence on the Beastie Boys Licensed to Ill album.
Aerosmith’s biggest song is Dream On (also sampled on Eminem’s Sing for the Moment), but they had a ton of hits in the late 80s and 90s (Sweet Emotion, Rag Doll, Love in an Elevator, Cryin’, Crazy, I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing, etc, etc).
Definitely check out more Run DMC too, as hip hop today wouldn’t be the same without their contribution. Their song My Adidas also lead to their deal with Adidas, which was the first of its kind for any musician to make money via brand deals. Much like Jordan did with the shoe for athletes, their deal opened the door for other artists.

This is a cover of an Aerosmith song. Re done for rap. Huge video when came out. Aerosmith became hot again after being a huge 70s rock band. This is about 30 yrs old

One of the first hip-hop/rap songs to chart, mostly because of the collaboration. You should look up the story about how this song came to be. RunDMC had no idea about this Aerosmith song, but were given the lyrics and told to rap it. They did. And it hit hard! Like nothing we'd heard before. My husband, a white guy from the midwest, tells of the time when this song came out, he was working at McDonald's. Some kids walked in when this song was playing, and of course husband knew the words because he was a hard rock fan, and knew of Aerosmith's original. The kids were shocked. Always check out who sampled who when a new song comes out, because many have snips of songs that have been around for 80 or 100 years.

This is a freaking classic. I remember when it came we were all talking about it. We already loved Aerosmiths version.

Wasn't he a judge on American Idol for a while? I didn't watch, but pretty sure I remember that.

How familiar are you with The Beastie Boys? Because that's another fun hip/hop/rock rabbit hole to go down. Listen to the storytelling in Paul Revere. Like Slick Rick, who you should also familiarize yourself with if you don't (La Di Da Di, Children's Story).

Find the original from Aerosmith and you'll love this one even more because you'll see how they combined the two of them.
