Dre released The Chronic in 1992 and left Death Row in 1996 due to the people Suge was having around & escalating violence. He then started Aftermath, but wasn’t having much success with album sales on the new label. He was close to being dropped by the label when he signed Eminem in 1999 & the label blew up. This song was on his first full album release in 7 years, hence the title and references to people suggesting he didn’t have it any more.
It’s time to bring back Behind the Music. 😂 Great summary. It was awesome to have NWA, The Chronic, and Eminem’s new album all in rotation… still my favorite rap music decade.

Young bro…Dre was falling out of favor post NWA years and then found Eminem….and went to a completely different stratosphere. Eminem essentially globalized rap and introduced 50 cent to masses, who was as big as Eminem at one point. Dre Eminem 50 cent from about 2002-2006 was the biggest thing in hip hop culture

Dr Dre's last cd did get bad reviews from Benzino and everybody turned on him because he started to work with a white rapper.
So he was the only one that was not racist and wanted to work with Em. And by teaming up thay did save each other.
Because nobody could stop them. And when Em broke through nobody with a brain wanted to go against Em. Because not only did Em came up from battle rap but his penn game is unmatched and he did things that nobody dared to say/do.

a fair bit of dres production comes from scott storch stems of chords and melodies. scott was that dude with typical LA style pianos, and they worked extremely well with dres bass and drums.

So, during this time, the whole East versus West coast thing, was still very fresh in everyones mind. This track was only maybe 2 years or so out from a lot of the drama that happened. Dr. Dre and a lot of other rappers were over the whole beef at this point and just wanted to move on. Suge Knight was in prison and two of the greatest rappers of all time had gotten killed. A lot of the rappers on both sides kind of settled down for a bit and they were labelled as being "fake" or trying to go "pop" or "mainstream". There is one rapper who completely switched around their image with the intentions of fooling people that he was actually a good, kind-hearted person. Sean "P-Diddy" Combs!!!

I don't really remember what happened... I know it's the late '90s... and the song was a hit that even won awards... but as far as I know... Dre was about to go bankrupt with his record company... he was even working (he's still his partner to this day) with Jimmy Iovine, and they were pressuring him to fire Dre because his recent works weren't doing well... and then he found Eminem... and everything changed for both of them... but it wasn't easy either because a lot of people turned against Dre for signing with Eminem... now, if something else happened besides this... I don't know.

Dre was irrelevant after Pac died and Death Row split up. His only known act was the RnB singer Truth Hurts when he started Aftermath. Then outta nowhere he found Eminem and the Slim Shady LP took the rap world by storm followed up by Marshal Mathers LP taking the world over. At this point in time Eminem was so lightning hot and at the top of his powers, Dre decided to make a 2nd album, The Chronic 2001 which on the real most people were just hype to hear new music with Dre, Snoop and to see how Eminem fit into that sound. And well flawlessly the shxt classic.
