the changeup is easily my favorite pitch in baseball. i feel like it's been really overlooked and underestimated for years, i'm glad Devin Williams showed how effective it can be this year
For sure one of the best but it's deff not over looked...zack greinke been throwing it for the last 10 15 years probably now 🤣 unlike the knuckle ball 😳 it's not overlooked, I feel like more of the people who don't know or play overlook it cuz they're all like you hit a 96 fastball but can't hit a 82 change and they're baffled lmao....we are to if we're not looking for one 🤣🤣
@@starfighter1043 I love how people that didn't play don't know. They say some hilarious things. Lol. I'd love to see 96 mph fastballs, only, all day. Gas is the easy stuff. Cutters, changeups, and sliders are the stuff of nightmares. You have to hit it on the sweet spot with a wooden bat. Those pitches are for making you miss that good contact. Or miss it completely.
Couldn't agree more. There's just something about the best changeups with all that arm side run and drop that just looks amazing and is so hard to hit. I also love the concept of fooling pitchers by varying speed. My favorite pitch easily although I also like sinkers and two seamers
Soto was my favorite pitcher when I was a kid. In the early 80s , Reds fans had hope on the days Mario pitched. Other days, not so much. Soto might strike you out and he might fight you. 😁He was a great pitcher with a bad temper
That Devin Williams Airbender is such a unique and devastating pitch. He can shape it how he wants. He was striking dudes out with only his changeup on three consecutive pitches.
The crazy thing with Hoffman was that you knew his fastball barely hit 90mph. But you didn't kow whether the bottom would fall out of it about a foot from the plate. That guy had pinpoint accuracy with every pitch and when you thought he'd throw a fastball up and away on an 0-2 count, the next thing you knew was the ump ringing you up for a strike on the outside corner.
I remember learning the change-up in high school ( not major league necessarily) but when it was working it made pitching so easy. Ground balls, weak pop flys and strikeouts. Most hitters didn't even know what happened.
I really love watching Kyle Hendricks pitch. Who has TWO filthy changeups that break in different directions? The Devil, that's who. I'm so glad he's a Cub.
You can tell Tom Glavine rolled his vice the turning of the wrist. It’s why his just dropped more akin to a splitter than the others, who all had arm side run
@@Morraless I wish Lincecum’s changeup would rank a little bit higher. That pitch itself at two strike was basically a strike out machine at two-strike and guys are just flailing at it in the dirt. Every when they know it’s coming, nobody can hit that.
In the early 80s , Reds fans had hope on the days Mario Soto pitched. He might strike out 10 and he might get into a fight too. The Reds fielded some pretty weak teams in the early 80s but Soto was always entertaining.
It's both. But you have to be able to sell the changeup as your fastball, so if you throw 100 it's going to be hard to throw a 70 mph changeup and fool anyone.
A fastball and change works in conjunction. You want a change that’s 12 mph slower, it can be higher, but if it’s lower, people will start to pick it up much better out the hand.

This and the Cutter.

Never heard of Mario Soto before, he had a sick change
Soto was my favorite pitcher when I was a kid. In the early 80s , Reds fans had hope on the days Mario pitched. Other days, not so much. Soto might strike you out and he might fight you. 😁He was a great pitcher with a bad temper

some of those moyer changeups were actually just his fastball in his twilight lol
Johan could spot his fastball low and away whenever, which made that changeup below the zone impossible to lay off.
Even Nolan Ryan's change up looks like 100! SMH
This video is my Christmas gift.
Hey thats better than these hitters got, they out here going through the 7 stages of death at plate.
Nothing like a good changeup. I think it's the best pitch in baseball when thrown right
The crazy thing with Hoffman was that you knew his fastball barely hit 90mph. But you didn't kow whether the bottom would fall out of it about a foot from the plate. i so loved watching Nolan Ryan pitch as a kid. His motion is just so easy and smooth.

Mario soto threw balloons that were painted white, they just float to the plate
I don't think most folks know how filthy he was!
I really love watching Kyle Hendricks pitch. Who has TWO filthy changeups that break in different directions?
The Devil, that's who. I'm so glad he's a Cub.
Does anyone do the ol' Palmball grip anymore? Or is it pretty much all some variation of the Circle Change?
This is a great video!
Needs some Marco Estrada. I bet very few would guess he had the lowest opponent batting average in all of baseball for one or two years
Yes!!! Timmy's change was Cy young worthy. Love this channel.
Are you sure those weren't Greinke fastballs?
You can tell Tom Glavine rolled his vice the turning of the wrist. It’s why his just dropped more akin to a splitter than the others, who all had arm side run
You’re my new favorite channel.
Wath is the theme song thau you use dor tom glavine
The first song in the video seems like a direct rip off of the riff from “I got mine” by the black keys??
Indeed. Seems to be teh MO of these catalogue music providers, unfortunately. Just this side of a copyright claim.
My Change-up rankings:
1. Pedro (Biased Red Sox fan :) )
2. Johan.
3. Devin Williams
4. Trevor Hoffman.
5. Nolan.
6. Timmy Lincecum. I want to say it’s probably the most devastating, solely because of his delivery. Man was he exciting to watch during his prime.
@@Morraless I wish Lincecum’s changeup would rank a little bit higher. That pitch itself at two strike was basically a strike out machine at two-strike and guys are just flailing at it in the dirt. Every when they know it’s coming, nobody can hit that.
@@choiyatlam2552 Updated Rankings.
3. Lincecum
6. D. Williams.
Best pitch ever. And Pedro had my favorite
the best pitch in baseball besides the fastball of course. the arm action is so important.
Please tell me Hoffman and Gagne are in this? Best sexiest pitch in baseball!
Johan Santana was so smooth and effortless
5:46 🤯🔥
Side note: photographer was either fired or made alot of money for getting dope ass shots
can we get maddux's 2 seamer
You ever look at mario sotos arsenal? The guy was a nightmare. His entire repertoire was set up to make hitters feel dumb
Looks like the circle change is the most common pitch for most of these pitchers
And I can understand why
Circle change gives me more feel for ball and allows to really emphasize on the middle index pinky fingers
@@BuffAznFitness you get a lot more break with it right?
It seems like the superior grip is the four seam circle
Falta saber el trabajo del brazo muñeca y dedos para q este completo
Great video, maybe some love To Cliff Lee
Mike Soroka deserves an honorable mention.

Pedro made it look so easy.
Hyun-jin Ryu, underrated here...
Ramon Martinez, Pedro's big brother should be on this list.
Devin has it going on.
I think deGrom has a really good change. Thing just fades last second
Ryan ‘s express having a change up is just abusing hitters
Really miss prime Felix.
Kahnle robbed
Needs some Lima Time!
Cole Hamels bruh
Best pitch in baseball imo
why dont pitchers throw slower changeups, seems thats what really makes a nasty changeup moreso than the movement
@@jamesgomez753 yeah just impart more rotation instead of velocity like devin williams
