Finding an eagle feather is high honor. I emailed Willie the complete native American meaning. Hi, I’ve just subscribed as I liked the idea of a slow life on Skye, only to realise that my husband has been a subscriber of dirty Secrets ‘ for ages. We’ve been married for more than 30 years now but it reminds me so much of our lives when we were your age, bottle digging, detecting, foraging for mushrooms, fishing etc not to mention our various crafts and hobbies! Good luck with Skye, I love that the weather and scenery is so dramatic and whilst you might not have a shop or a pub, everything that truly matters is right on your doorstep!!

We have the Creeping Thistle in The U.S. of A. in Pennsylvania. It's found in Rural settings out in the fields and out on rural farmland fields. Sometimes when the HAY gets baled up in the summer a thistle or two ends up in the hay bale. It must have blown seeds on the winds for THOUSANDS of miles and ended up in the U.S.o. A. MANY MANY way too many years ago to arrive from Scotland.

Happy New Year! We love the paintings, in fact I think my wife went on to your Etsy shop and bought one whilst we were watching.
With regards to burn ideas, not sure if you ever went to the Ecology Centre or Earthship Fife whilst you were in Kirkcaldy, but it might be worth looking at whether you could put a micro hydro turbine into your burn as they had in the burn at Kinghorn Loch. As you’re reliant on electricity it’s probably worth supplementing it for the occasions storms bring the power lines down.

I'm really glad to know your internet connections are working well. I've really enjoyed watching you get settled in to your new place. I'd give my eyeteeth to be able to do something like that! Just a thought about your kitchen set-up, Willy . . . move your cutting board, knives, and spatulas, etc. closer to where you do your prep cooking. Also, place your wooden spoons, whisks, ladles, etc. that you'd use to actually cook with closest to the stove. Keep a salt pot (a nice squat bottle would be perfect there) right next to the cooker. Oils, herbs & spices within arms reach and your culinary life will improve significantly.

I think the shower cord is so short as you don't actually need to isolate the shower every time you're done using it. I thought you did but after we kept breaking those switches I learnt they're meant for the times you need to cut power for maintenance and not as an extra daily on off switch.

    Love Scotland and the Scots
I have an idea for you!
My dad and I ,used to do long lining in Morecambe bay
    Perfect for flat fish
Take a 100' of line, iron stakes, a leader every 18", with a hook and bait, cover with sand at low tide, tide comes in, goes out, go and retrieve your 🐟fish!
    It's fun
You guys lower our blood pressure
    Keep it up 😉

We have always lived remotely in Western Australia, and now we live down on the south coast, where we thought we’d have good internet for the first time in our lives… but no. Then, we got Starlink. It’s a game changer! We love it!

I love your channel, I love renovations, gardening, you're art is absolutely breathtaking, they look like snapshots not painted pictures. I must say I feel there's hope in the world for young people if more young people were as brave and brought their talents out like both of you have. I can't wait to see the progress as you go along. Much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖 PS when I went to Scotland I had my husband drive me all the way up to the aisle of sky breathtaking!

My father left when I was 5 years old. I found him again when I was 41. I'm English but have always felt a longing for Scotland. It turned out he is from Arbroath and lives there now. I'm very jealous of your new life and wish you all the best. I would love to give up my busy lifestyle for a cottage in the Highlands.

It’s quite similar to a Starskey, I must say… but it’s actually the one from the Big Lebowski - made by Pendleton, USA.

Beautiful! The rule of thumb with the Eastern Woodland Native American tribes is to harvest no more than 1/3 of what you find. That allows some for another who also has need of it as well as enough to insure it comes back healthy the next year. Every person who comes upon it will get less but that’s the fortune of finding it first. There is always a point where there is no longer enough to harvest and still insure it comes back healthy the next year and that line moves depending on what it is and where it is. You will figure out when to stop as you are there longer. If you are the only persons who would ever harvest from a spot (not sure that is possible unless you plant it yourself in your yard), I would probably harvest between 1/2 and 1/3 until you know it better. This is all about wild harvesting. When you grow things from seed and the plant can not return without more seed then that is outside of what I am talking about. You certainly don’t have to follow that rule, you are in Scotland, after all. But I have yet to hear anything better that builds in sustainability. Just FYI

I was just catching up on your Skye videos, they are pretty darn good by the way. I can't believe it's just been over a month already and you have close to 24,000 subscribers. You all deserve it, it's more work than most know to put out good videos, and you also make your own music on top of that! If I made my own music UA-cam would shut me down!😂

Thanks - the views and subs have completely taken us by surprise!
And you’re right - you pretty much have no time off - especially when starting a new channel.
We aim to take Sundays off, but honestly, even that rarely happens. We love it, but it’s HARD work!
It’s always nice when viewers realise the level of work that goes in - thanks for noticing that. 🙂
