for dining or takeout experience, there are several types in the Philippines 1. Carinderia/Canteen/Local Eatery-style - pick/choose the food items and pay as you order (usually self-service). Mostly does not have a menu list and you have to ask what it is called (viand name) and the ingredients. 2. Fastfood - same ordering process as Western fastfood chains 3. Restaurant/fine dining - usually there's someone at the entrance tending to the customers unless the place is busy/crowded. Has waiters/waitresses/servers roaming or on standby. BTW, when trying to seek the attention of the waiters/waitresses/servers, you can raise your hand and wave to them.
tip - just stand back and watch what people do in restaurants until you work it out. There are so many variations and quite often staff in many of these places don't care about customers so don't stop and think to help tourists. You just have to step back and observe. Orr ick Burger King - that also works :)
