I can't believe you two don't have a bigger crowd following/subscribed! You make such pure awesome videos, everything you do from cinematography to editing (let alone the sailing, mechanical stuff, tips, tricks, adventures and knowledge!) is such quality! I'm only on episode 20 of your vlogs, but considering I only started watching them a few days ago, it's all i've been doing with my free time aha.. I was sad to hear you would end this trip in NZ, but it makes sense, but then was even happier to hear about house building and then talk of another boat. Giving me and my partner inspiration to do the same one day! Keep up the amazing videos and stay safe
Just saw this comment - thank you! We've really enjoyed making the videos, and its great to hear they're being enjoyed! We're in French Polynesia now, catching up on a few online things (wifi is hard to come by here). We'll both be sad to finish this cruising adventure, but we're looking forward to the next (land based) adventure. I hope you are your partner get take off on your own adventure soon. CoVid has made cruising by sail all the more attractive I think (who in their right mind would want to go to an an airport or board a plane these days?!). Best wishes, Asher
If New Zealand were my home, I would sail there and stay forever. We visited the Bay of Islands two years ago and it is a magical place. My wife and I spent two weeks hiking the south island before heading off to Tasmania. New Zealanders were so kind and generous. If time and chance allow, we will return one day. Wishing you a safe journey, wonderful memories, and a great homecoming!
That was very interesting, I have never sailed but would like to. I follow a few channels and the differing levels of experience is amazing. It makes me feel good seeing the level of trust between couples on board that dose not appear to be there with land based partners. Hope the remainder of your journey is incident free and brings you much joy, looking forward to seeing more of you and your travels as you make your way down under. Take care and stay safe.
I love watching your videos and would like to get info on the black and gray check soft hat I’ve both both of you wearing. I can’t seem to find on the internet. Thanks in advance. Gene.
Really enjoying your journey thanks for sharing. Your honesty and integrity shine through. My guess would have been most doing your sort of journey would have got a long keeler so am interested in your choice of boat
Thanks Robert! Long keels are certainly popular for this type of sailing but they also tend to be slower, heavier, less manoeuvrable and have less room inside. Also the age of long keels tends to mean they have more underlying issues that need to be dealt with. There are definitely pros and cons to both but we’re pretty happy with our choice 😊
Hey guys. We’ve just discovered your videos and think you are both super easy to watch. In fact we are presently located in bay of islands marina on our yacht, which we sailed from Panama last year (2019), and from the AIS we see that Bachus is in the Kerikeri inlet. Are you onboard.? It would be awesome to meet you..do you ever go to the Packhouse market.?
Hi Guys, appreciate i'm really late to the party but just discovered this vlog- its so enjoyable to watch- we're upto ep25. We are hoping to do some long distance cruising when we can sort the finances out! I'm just wondering, how did you guys finance this trip? I notice in the first couple of episodes Asher does work from his laptop occasionally but that seems to stop after you get over the Atlantic. Many thanks in advance! Toby
Hey Toby! Exciting for you guys. We mostly financed the trip from our savings but Asher did do some contracting work from time to time when it made sense. We started off both working a couple of days a week but that was way too tricky to manage so in the end just chose blocks when we were stuck in certain places.
Hey! We've made it to French Polynesia, and it's gorgeous. We'll enjoy a couple of months here, then bingo to NZ before the cyclone season starts in November.
@@sailingbacchushome944 yay! Have been watching the beginnings of you in French Poly. Enjoy yourselves. Would love to see you continuing your channel in some form if possible?
Excellent video thanks guys. I have been trying to work out what your career backgrounds might be so a bit more on that would be of interest. Did note of course how articulate you both are so guessed you’re well educated!! Also, what was your rationale behind your choice of boat? She seems to have been a fine choice thus far. Anyway hope you’re both still well and safe.
Asher is a lawyer, although he did spend some of his career driving tractors is Western Australia. Dani is a marketeer by trade, working mostly in Sports and Tourism but I guess now we’re just sailors ☺️ We’re really happy with our choice of boat. We wanted something reliable and comfortable that we could easily find parts for and a boat we could sell in NZ when we eventually get home. She’s done us well so far!
Good video and thoughts, Jason on gone with the wynn's has certainly figured how to fix things as they bought a Catamaran and not sailed before. I agree the sea is not always flat, I too grew up in NZ with lots of powerboat fishing trips. Having never had anything whatsoever to do with sailing I very nearly purchased a 38 foot leopard last year. I am certain some lessons in a large bay would give you the basics. A bit like when you are put on the tractor seat at 5 years old and told to drive. You soon figure it out or hit the fence. I hope you have safe travels ahead and I shall follow you back to NZ. You may need to adjust your timeline as when you get to the Pacific Islands you may not be in too much of a hurry anymore. All the best Steve.
Generally speaking yes, but the NZ tax man will need his cut, plus with Covid we're not sure how strong the NZ boat market is right now! Fingers crossed we find the right buyer.
Nice vid guy! V inspirational for sure. Did you put the boat ownership in an LLC for liability purposes, or is it in your name? And also what insurance do you guys use? Cheers, and safe travels back home! :)
Hey Paris. It’s in our name, not sure what the advantage of an LLC would be. As for insurance, this is a massive topic in the sailing world. Irma hiked all the prices although it’s still relatively easy to find insurance for the Caribbean outside of Hurricane season. The Pacific is a little trickier. We found using GJW fine but we never had to make a claim so can’t tell you more than that but their prices were really good. Good luck.
I am binge watching your great videos! A few questions about yourselves: What kind of work brought you to England? How long were you there? I am assuming you when there as a couple and did not meet there. True? Are you married (to each other of course? ;-)
Asher’s a lawyer and I work in marketing but we actually both moved to London without jobs and found them once we arrived. We also moved to London separately and reconnected when we were there 🥰 and no we’re not married (yet 😉)
Patrick Childless skipper from SV Brickhouse made it to Cape Town just under a month ago. But both Patrick and his wife caught covid 19 there. Sadly Parick has died after a week on a ventilator. Please be careful on your travels.
Interesting video. Thanks for sharing your experience and knowledge.
Great interview and advice!

Thanks Jim! We do feel very lucky to call NZ home. I hope you get back there in the not too distant future.
Lovely to hear your backstory, thanks for sharing.
Cruising - Fixing the yacht in Tropical ports . Your doing very very well , First rule - If you think about reefing = REEF ... Fair winds .
Following you since day one. Love the story, your journey and the learning. Keep it coming.
Thank you so much for sharing. I enjoy learning more about the people that I take an interest in. Stay Safe!!
That was great. Thanks for the sharing..hope the rest goes well...will be following

Thanks John! You certainly need a lot of trust in your sailing partner that’s for sure. I hope you get out there on the water some time soon!
Well done. Thank you.....

Redwood's Garden Centre in Kerikeri pal, not sure they're techy enough to have online shopping though!

Trimaran...luxury sailing...:)
i have officially watch ALL of your videos! lol epic journey! cant wait for the next one! keep it up guys!
Maybe before you drop the final anchor in BOI? Auckland? you could do an around NZ trip on Bacchus 👌
Ooooh this sounds like a great idea! 👍🏼
Love the videos - stumbled across them whilst looking at 361’s. Coincidence - I have also sailed on Arcsine with Cathy a few times :-)
Wow, small world! Can't go wrong with a 361 ;)

Hi! Lovely to bump into you yesterday, what a small place New Zealand is! Have fun out there, and enjoy the summer!

Haha yes you’re right, we may get stuck in the Pacific and this time it might have nothing at all to do with Corona! Stay safe mate!
Thanks for all the info. Dani, did you do any sailing qualifications or training before the trip?
I did do the RYA dinghy sailing course but that was all 😂
Aren't boats more expensive in NZ? Will you be able to offset some of the journey costs when you sell it there?
Generally speaking yes, but the NZ tax man will need his cut, plus with Covid we're not sure how strong the NZ boat market is right now! Fingers crossed we find the right buyer.

Sailing Bacchus Home epic, thanks for the tips! I started watching from the beginning ! On ep 9 now. 🥳✨🙌🏻

Didn't catch what her background is... I'm going for international cat burglar...
Hahaha definitely not. I know a few cat burglars though. I worked in marketing - sports and tourism mainly ☺️
