Just refinished my spaulded concrete 17 by 17 foot garage floor with similar product called Akona concrete resurfacer from Menards in 2hrs. Prep took all week. Apparently the parent company here makes both Quikete and Akona. My finished look is good but took two coats. It came in 25lb plastic bags which I recommend vs 40lbs. Plastic bags kept the powder in side from lumping. 25lbs was fairly easy to mix. Mix exactly 60 fluid oz for the 25 lb bag. Temperture in garage 60 degrees. I had a working time of nearly one hour but it would smooth easier if done within 30 min. I used a garden sprayer to lightly moisten the old concrete. My wife mixed with drill and I spread. She could easily keep ahead. While mixing use a flat stick to stir up the bottom and sides of 5 gallon pail. It seems to settle quickly into the bottom of pail. It hardened and filled the spaulded concrete great. I did the second coat for appearance only. My mistakes were spreading in two different directions and spraying too much water onto old surface. Too much water made for a white appearance. Tips. Use 2 inch tape to outline your work area. Use small flat shovel to scoop excess material when finished. Use trowel instead of squeege when finishing. Squeege in one direction the entire length. In my case 17 ft. You can scrape off ridges with trowel after few hrs. Don't let the squeege hop while dragging. Push down harder if hopping. Keep both mixed and a little powder for patchup of your mistakes. You can trowel it down somewhat while it is setting. You can clean up spilled concrete with water and brush up to 4hrs later. Hope this helps someone.
how many bags did this take for your 290 sq ft garage? I'm thinking about using the akona for my drive way which is pretty big and think it will take a ton of the bags. Menards website has tech specs and it says one bag 25lb covers only 12.5 sq ft.
@@robertpeck7638 7 bags. Plan on 60sq ft per bag. Still looks great after winter. I did use a concrete sealer after. The surface did stain white in a few areas where water evaporated from puddles left by my car. This happened before I sealed it.
@@robertpeck7638 50 sqrt not 60. Sorry
Thanks I'm going to use the akona viynl cement patch on some deep spalls first.
@@robertpeck7638 Thats what I used too. It did a great job filling in some holes that were 1 inch deep. I then covered with the resurfacer.
Can you show an "after" test pad, after it's been used in a Northern climate and driven over multiple times, and exposed to road salt and brine de-icing products used by municipalities?
Sad when they can't even make it look good in their own video.
THAT is not damaged concrete. Show us repairing REAL damage.
Hi there, SAKRETE Flo-Coat is designed for re-surfacing concrete surfaces with damages up to only 1/2" thick (as seen in video). For damaged concrete greater than this, we recommend using SAKRETE fast-patch (2" damage) or SAKRETE Concrete Mix (more than 2" damage).
KPM Industries Ltd. thanks! We purchase a house with a large drive that’s got pot holes in the concrete.
I suggest watching Mike Days video How To Resurface A Badly Damaged Concrete Walkway for more information.
@@davidbalderston2751 Mike knows what he's doing.
Before the patching border texture was flat and shiny. After patching, you made inner and outer surface all same, than how is it visually appealing? After patching, it looks ruff work and does not look professional craftsmanship.
I don’t like that it leaves small pits and imperfections. How can I achieve a very smooth finish?
With a float or smooth trowl
@@bryancoles8817 ok thank you
I’m chuckling at the folks who don’t like the brushed finish. It’s obvious they don’t know what they’re talking about, and their ignorance gets more obvious with choice of words...
Yes it is called a broom finish so you have some traction ect to walk on
Man this looks awful. I'd be embarrassed to have it turn out like that.
That's the finisher's job to make it look pretty. Any material is dependent on the finisher.
@@kurtfrancis4621 Well thank you Captain Obvious! In this case as stated the "finisher" did a terrible job and it looks awful.
What's the difference between using this, and painting on portland with a bonding agent?
Old school, right there. I bet you could brush this on like the old Portland paint. These polymer reinforced products are excellent.
The broom finish always leaves a lot of snots with these products. Is any other finish possible?
Got it!
1. Start with a freshly poured concrete slab with a nice, clean, broom-finish surface as shown.
2. Take an air chisel to the slab to spall the surface.
3. Buy some Sakrete and mix up thick to fill the spalling you just performed.
4. Mix it thinner to cover it all.
I'll remember to buy some if I ever decide to do that.
For everyone's immediate concern, which product do we use to resurface a garage floor that has been there for a few decades, with cars parking on it, dripping oil and antifreeze over that time, with actual spalling caused by ice freezing, with the obligatory crack, and that we can park cars on again and not have it flake off leaving it worse off?
This is horrible! I tried this and ended up not being able to mix because it becomes very thick. You need a concrete mixer. Wasted several bags by trying to follow this video
The finish looks horrible. Drag marks, low areas and not professional.
This is not a good product , it works ok but , you will not get a consistent even broom finish even if you use a horse hair broom , in a pinch if you lost a slab and you need to make it look half way good this works but if you are looking to upgrade your old concrete no no no no no , remove it and replace it , i just saved you one big headache
I saw a video with top bond to fill in pitted areas. What is the difference between the 2 products? And do they dry different colors?
Very informative video thank you. Keep up the good work.
Do you make any white products? I only like Whites.
Ở Việt Nam 🇻🇳 có loại này không ad ?
sir I have a floor of about 3000 feet and thousands of holes a quarter deep and three inches in diameter what cement can I use to cover the holes and that it does not dry too quickly to be able to work. Thank you
It looks ugly
Lol not gonna lie looks like shit for a pro company
Lol.. uuuuummm, that looks like shit..
Sorry guys but this is a terrible video. It bounces all over the place.
The original slab looked better🤣
Can this product be colored?
Can this be acid stained after it has cured?
You sure need a lot of stuff.
How many square feet does one bag do
Can the product be used to even out slabs of concrete that have settled out of level or have concave sections? Thank you in advance for your reply and any advice you may offer.
Did you ever figure out the answer to that Gypsy?
And, how would you use this on an internal concrete floor inside the home where you would want a smooth finish? Specifically just needing to cover up a long crack where two rooms joined into one, and they did not butt it up tight enough to make it cohesive.
Cut out the affected section and pour a new one, with expansion joints ...
What about concrete leveler or leveling compound?
Can I use concrete sealer on this? And if so, how long do I need to set it before applying the sealant? I am actually using this for a desk.
What about the edges
Dries too fast.
Looked better beforehand
What exterior paint colours are available after the 28 days from placing Flo-Coat Sakrete
Behr concrete stain. Goes on like paint
can you use this product over a patio that has a stain covering?
Very good ..coz u write what u said, thnx alot
Can you use this on cracked home foundation ?
Fix cracked fist then apply
Hi, What color is this when dry?
Once SAKRETE Flo-Coat is cured, it will be a light grey in colour.
Hi I was acid cleaning my porch and the acid spilled while I wasn’t home. It sat on the concrete for a few house and we now have around 1/2 to 1 inch deep holes where contact was made at first and discoloration other places. If I patched up the holes could I put this on my whole porch to keep the color even
Hi Donald, first you will need to thoroughly clean the affected area - really hose it down for about ten minutes and scrub. Then, following the packaging instructions, you will need to make a thicker batch of Flo-Coat to trowel in the holes. Once this is done, use a paddle mixer to mix the flow-able consistency, covering the whole area with the same batch to allow for a consistent colour. SAKRETE Flo-Coat is a self leveling product, so the area must be quite even. If you have any further questions, please e-mail: consumer@kpmindustries.com
KPM Industries Ltd. thanks
Can this product be used on strained concrete?
This should say STAINED
.
28 day cure time? Wow!
My contractor used this product and it crumbles to a powder when walked on. I can rub with my finger and get it to break down. Why would that happen and does this powder-like dust contain silica dust?
What is the name of the attachment and will any type of drill work? Thanks!
What is the minimum thickness for traffic areas e.g.a path to walk on or on a driveway where cars use it?
You can apply it pretty thin. Did the driveway in front of my house about 10 years ago. Used a notched trial to apply and then a flat finishing trial to smooth out so it was not to thick. Really looked great with no brush marks and it is just now wearing out. So that thin coat handled traffic for 10 years before showing wear down to the original gravel. Am going to do it again now but will use a large squeege this time to make it faster.
@@phyllisgibson751 amazing, thank you.
When you said wear down, doo you mean it started too crack after 10 years?
For how long it works without crack(s)? We do need to know the time of test experience you did, and views of users.
can these be squeegeed to be a polished look? Is it self leveling to some degree...meaning will it allow itself to level out before drying?
No to the polished look. You could send it smooth but won't be shiny. Not really designed for leveling. Think of it like asphalt coating.
That was pretty great im going to try it out. Random question can this go over a brick layed area. Or would that just be dumb?
Hey Tommy, we would not recommend using SAKRETE Flo-Coat over brick. This product is ideal for even concrete surfaces with damage up to 1/2", but we do carry other products better suited for patch repair work!
Can this be applied over painted concrete floors?
Hi there, SAKRETE Flo-Coat is not designed for application on top of painted concrete. There is a possibility that the paint underneath may de-laminate, causing the cured concrete to possibly shift. We would recommend removing the paint prior to application. For more product information, visit www.king-products.com

For thin skim coating, is there any kind of fibrous material that can be added to prevent cracking (dryer lint maybe)?
sonicqtip Yes you can add fiber to products. I use it all the time when repairing floors. It’s the same fiber used in concrete to make it stronger. It is cheap to buy and last me along time. I purchased a bag awhile back and still have plenty left. It doesn’t take but a small pinch to a 5 gal bucket of product. I’ve used it for years.
Also, try shredding dryer sheets and mixing into the material with your dryer lint to give your concrete the fresh scent of a mountain breeze.
sonicqtip really? Ahaahaa
@@combsd3283 what?????
@@ArkMedic1 the stupider the question, the stupider the answer. The guy is talking about dryer lint for Pete's sake.. fiber reinforced concrete is a real thing, but dryer lint has no stranded fiber.. it's dust. So I thought I'd add some humor and go all the way - dryer sheets. Boom. Actually has a fiber and smells great too.
Can I use this around my pool concrete deck??
Can this be used over a Chattahoochee (aggregate stone) deck, assuming there is no sealant on the Chattahoochee?
I have seen this product used way down yonder on a chattahoochee, but you must ensure it does not get hotter than a hoochie coochie.
@@combsd3283 Sakrete must be the muddy water that means so much to people down there.
the brush is a kitchen broom? a kitchen broom? very odd.
Kevin Cecchini ... You can use a tooth brush but you’re going to be there awhile. 🤓
@@heystarfish100 Funny. I was expecting a concrete brush to be used.
Can Flo-Coat be tinted?
Hi Stephen, yes, you can add colourant to SAKRETE Flo-Coat in order to change the colour. Always remember to follow the manufacturer's instructions before adding colourant!
Thanks!
How would you do this to a slab with a step? Box it in?
EGGINFOOLS bbb
Hi there, we would recommend making a thicker batch and troweling in the product, so that you do not change the rise of the step. If you have any further questions about your project, please e-mail consumer@kpmindustries.com
