It is very hard to know how many beaver are in a particular area. I had an ADC job on a property last year that had 1 shallow lake, 2 deep lakes and one very old pond (built in 1888). I caught 52 beaver out of those bodies of water from the first week in January until February 28. There was still beaver sign when I pulled out. Went back this past season and caught 8 from the same area. Still more sign when i left.
Awesome video as always!! Thank you for showing us how you set up that snare. These videos you upload are PRICELESS!! I've learned so much from them and hope to share my knowledge with other young trappers. Keep up the great content!! Again....thank you for taking the time to upload these videos.
Just watching you squeeze the springs on a 330 makes me wince. I have a tough time doing it against a hard object like the bumper on my truck. That is the most impressive part of the video for me.
Loving the info. I live on a small farm in the US. I usually run some traps for coon, fox, and coyote. Skipped last fall/winter only to find out this week that beaver have flooded the woodland/marsh area I trap. Found 2 dams today. They've turned a 1 foot wide by 6 in deep creek into a multi acre pond. Our season is Dec 15- March 15 so I've got a wait until I can do anything about it.
Yeah, I'm up in Quebec so I understand. I have no problems with trapping, but I have to say, after seeing a beaver pond around here that was active for years, and isn't anymore, I have new respect for what they do for the environment. They got taken out a couple years ago and now it's almost just a swamp. Where before it was a nice pond, lots of room for ducks and geese, a really pretty place. But I know they can cause a nightmare for some land owners too.
Who ever said beaver were stupid hasn't trapped them very long. Beaver wise up in a few seconds of passing a trap. Snare wise beaver are super hard to catch.
I don't pre make them they are sticks I find on beaver lodges in around dams. If I'm in one spot that has a lot of them I will bring extras for the next place
I understand why you trap them but isn’t there another solution to the flooding problem in this case? I saw a guy break the dam and put pvc pipes down in it. When the beavers rebuilt over the pipes, the pipes were still draining the pond keeping it at a low level where it wasn’t destroying the guys septic tank and they were still able to have their pond to live in.
Sprung trap.....Too shallow? I'm surprised this guy doesn't know how to set those coni-bears (220-330) with a rope. Takes about 30 seconds !!! One 3 1/2 ft. rope about the diameter of your "little" finger, one hand, one foot. EASY!!! Finished with the rope tie it around your waist or stick it in your pocket. Want to "loose" beavers? Keep using footholds!! I trap in S.E. MN. around Rochester and our beavers are much BIGGER than those shown in these videos They live in small streams (less than 2 feet deep at the bridge, road and most of their "food" is corn. Fat they are. 30 and 40,50 pounds. You use a leg hold trap and you DON'T drown them right away and they will tear your "gear" up !!! We have small streams through out the area and you wouldn't think there wouldn't be beaver in them but walk out in the middle of the "section" and there might be a beaver dam(s) 10-15 ft. tall, and 30 yards long! Beaver dam is made mostly out of "corn stalks"! Not many trees. You think a beaver is hard on trees...... what do you think 4 or 5 beavers will do to a corn field !!! Beavers LOVE corn! Farmers HATE them!! While your there....Racoons, Muskrats, Mink and Fox also "hang out" around these beaver ponds. Might as well "kill" them all while your there. 1 1/2 Victor double coil springs with 3 ft. of chain added will work perfectly for them. Me and my partner have over 300 traps. We've got over 15,000 acres we have permission to hunt and trap on between Rochester and Owatonna, Minnesota. Probably some of the largest "coon" in the USA live in our trapping area. Beaver close to 55 pounds. What's going to "grow" a BIG Beaver? Tree bark or CORN !!! We shoot deer and they have 4 inches of fat on them!! 200-220 pounds average deer.
Rope takes to much time and its something extra you gotta carry around. I can compress the springs by hand in seconds. This was my grandpas trap so I wanted to try it out. Turns out it wasn't strong enough to hold the beaver but I got the beaver in a snare on the lodge. Footholds are the best tool possible for catch big beavers for sure I think. And those beaver you described are average size beavers. They don't grow any bigger where you are that's just not true. Ive caught more 60lb beaver than I can count. A handful of 70lb ones and my heaviest at 86lbs. When I'm beaver nuisance trapping I'm being paid to trap the beaver not everything else so that's what I focus on. They do love corn for sure. They make huge dams here out of the stalks and can level huge portions of the field easily. They can be quite the nuisance
I love the way you whisper to yourself while you are setting up your traps in the runs.
Year after year you bring us along on your beaver adventures.. look forward to it all the times .. thanks man
Good job, they can be tough. Thanks for sharing.
I don't even trap but I love watching these videos.
Awesome catches bud ! Thanks for taking us along

Another great video Scott. Thanks for the snare info. Going to try that next season!
Good job!! Thanks you save the Forest!!

I really like that jump trap. Don't see many like that anymore.
Always look forward to your video uploads & seeing the 330 Maniac notification

I noticed the last one was still limp, like it hadn't been in the snare too long. Great job !!!
Another great video
Nice beaver just saw the pile you got nice haul
Nice you threw the book at her. Well done.

like your trapping vids, keep'em coming!
That was a awesome, farmer is gonna be happy.
👊💀👍🍻🇺🇲🍻
“My trap is.....I don’t know where my trap is.” 😂🤷🏼♂️
That was a nice little pond they made. Shoulda thrown some fish in there and left it at that, but I guess he had his reasons.
Not near deep enough here in MN. They have to be really big and extremely deep or the fish will die during the winter

Good!
Well I feel better now I got some beaver that are making me look like a fool I'll try a snare now thx good vid
Every beaver I have ever trapped and skinned did not get away from me!
Well that would make sense because its pretty hard to skin a beaver that got away from you Lol
Thought you would like that.just a play on words. Love beaver trapping
Who ever said beaver were stupid hasn't trapped them very long. Beaver wise up in a few seconds of passing a trap. Snare wise beaver are super hard to catch.
looks like fun
Hey Scott . It's Scott again we chatted on the comments a CPL days ago . So I was wondering how far off the bottom did you set the snare ?
I set it maybe a couple inches off bottom
Thank for the info man
Do you pree make those stakes you stake in the springs of your connibears ?
I don't pre make them they are sticks I find on beaver lodges in around dams. If I'm in one spot that has a lot of them I will bring extras for the next place
Hey brother, have you ever set a run at a lodge, and while setting the second one, the first one connected? Your gona get some dandys in there bro.
Yes quite a few times over the years especially during the winter!
I really enjoy your videos. In what state do you do your trapping?
I watch all your videos but only comment on occasion..Question? Have you ever got caught up in a 330? Just curious..Thanks for the show its great!
Hey!! Its been many years but I caught my leg in one once by falling into a beaver run. Also broke some fingers in one once
@@330Maniac Ouch! you know your stuff but i guess it was bound to happen...love the vids!
Trapping are so much fun, and the easiest to trap are humans.
Just 🤫.
Some of them are dumb but it's fun..
Almost as dumb as your comment 🙄
I'm just curious in the state that you're trapping isn't there a law where you can only use snares Under Ice in the winter time
No. They can be used anywhere along as they have a deer stop on them and used as a water set
How do you tell if it's a male or female beaver the second you pull out?
I understand why you trap them but isn’t there another solution to the flooding problem in this case? I saw a guy break the dam and put pvc pipes down in it. Ты профи!
How much does he weigh?
How much did that se ond one wheigh?
3rd one made you work for him.
whoohoo!
Had the same thing old Female tried everything but a snare in the most unlikely spot had her the next morning
Thanks for the videos. Im going insane with my great Governors bs orders.
Squeezing springs shut on a Belisle 330 with your hands? I was gonna say I'd like to shake your hand, but than again maybe not.

I wouldn't call a 80 by 100 yard pond tiny ....
Its really tiny for here.
In the world of Beaver Ponds it is tiny.
