Holy shit it's perfect! I think the headers fixed that weird trumpet like sound stock gives (even with cat deletes or HF's). To me, i still think the stock setup is perfect all things considered but i believe this setup you have is the absolute perfect sound in terms of how loud, the quality and it eliminates the stock trumpet audible you hear in the low-mid rpm range. (i don't know if trumpet is the right word but people might know what i'm talking about)

Great looking headers kooks always does good shit, my only real issue would be the heat shielding was actually a necessity on these because of where they put the direct injectors so I would be looking at a way to add something or help out with heat

Nice!!! I just got my Z06 last month. I'm shocked to see how good the OEM headers are. I'm sure the Kooks will be better but the flow of the OEM looks pretty good. I'm trying to work on hi flow cats for mine as first mod.....
What are the improvements? Gm did extremely good getting power out of this engine so this will be interesting to see a difference if any. But we would need to see the dyno before and after with stock cats.

@@billmiller8782 I am not sure overall on the heat I will say my cat deletes are not coated and they are WAY hotter than the headers and hold heat way longer when I turn off. I’m gonna get some 60-130 passes but likely won’t dyno until I have ability to do more nitrous and dyno it then.

@@outlaw11x no just o2 spacers. It trips a code every 300-1000 miles or so. Tri Y runner length is changed on these so will have to see how the power curve is affected. I’m really big on weight reduction so regardless I am happy with shaving 5 lbs.

You’re only the guy out there who is consistently: 1) personally working on their car 2) driving the crap out of their car! 3) reporting feedback and uploading mods So for thank, I can’t say thank you enough. On FB/Forums folks are starting to report that aftermarket catbacks are legitimately MELTING the valve control actuators and wiring, so much heat. That’s why Borla is taking so long on their catback… heat issues. Today I’m installing used 2M cats I got from a friend and upgrading the heat wrapping, along with a Valvetronic catback. I wanted to go catless but live in CA sadly. Would love to connect with you and update you as you’re a wealth of knowledge on this car. You’re the man!

Heat is a big deal on these cars it seem I wish I had coated my cat deletes after feeling how much cooler the headers are with the coating and how much faster they cool down. Interesting on the borla I was wondering why they weren’t in the game yet. I’m curious if their solution will be more heat shielding. Let me know what you think of the 2M cats. They are at a great price point!
@@BrandonsgaragesI will definitely let you know. I’m certain I will get O2 CEL even with the extensions and mini cats and have to wipe the code frequently. Also worried about the valves not working properly on the valvetronic and throwing a CEL. Lastly, now very worried about heat now after hearing other folks and seeing melted parts photos. Definitely check the Corsa, don’t know of any stainless steel exhaust out there that is mitigating heat like the OEM catback. Will likely help if yours does not have any valves.
@ I do have valves :( I got a valve code too w them but being a 24 there aren’t a lot of tool options for the DIY that will let you recalibrate . Some of the tools do 23s already but I couldn’t find one to do 24s yet. Trying to avoid the dealer

Thank you for your commitment to this platform and your quality content 👍 Overall what are your impressions of the sound quality differences of the headers on your car now vs with just the cat deletes? In person you can literally feel the exhaust of this platform 10’ away with the cat deletes, is that rumble emphasized or changed at all? Are there any drawbacks or bonus features you think should be considered?
To me this brings the tone a little lower pitched which is more of the kind of sound I’m used to at idle and part throttle. When WOT the sound goes back to higher pitched FPC sound but with more volume. Inside the car it sounds a lot louder I’m not sure if the heat shielding muffled the sounds more before or what but I swear it’s louder in the car now. My wife says it’s much louder and she thinks it sounds better so that says a lot as she doesn’t really know cars well. The cracks and pops are definitely more but I did notice that as the ecm has normalized the fuel trims they are not quite as violent (you can see the daytime video where the flames were insane . At night I had driven some and you see they are there but less sparks and craziness I assume due to more normalized AFR. I’m a huge weight guy and I love weight loss mode so regardless of anything else the fact that I dropped 5 lbs off the car makes me happy
Drawbacks I think will be heat. If you have cat deletes I would coat them too I can tell a big difference in non coated and coated parts of this exhaust with regards to heat.

@ it’s a jet hot equivalent . They told me the name but I forgot. According to the place I had it done it’s the exact same coating they just call it something else but there is one main supplier people just put their name on it. It was 380 dollars , kooks wanted 600. I will say it DOES make a difference in heat.

Why didn't you wrap the headers? That seems pretty important in that confined engine bay, right? Headers on a boosted setup will glow cherry red under fully throttle even after a couple seconds. Additionally, on a turbo setup, wrapping the headers will help keep exhaust velocities high by keeping the energy contained within the primaries as much as possible, instead of the energy bleeding off to atmosphere via massive heat exchange.
@@ace1usmc I paid for ceramic coating instead inside and out. Wraps get oil on them and can cause engine fires I have e85 in my engine bay for my nitrous . Wraps vs coating has been a debate for years and I don’t care for them the fibers cut your hands .

The most powerful and most volumetric efficient engine ever built and you changed it! WHY! That car exists so we can just buy it and enjoy it! Yeah yeah headers are great but they are meant for that old square body. I guarantee you lost power and efficiency by messing with the perfection that is the z06
@@codygentry9472 possibly but every mod so far has picked up some power (except I guess JLT intake, technically made more power but lost torque so was a wash) just not as much as you would on a traditional old school engine. There are some gains to be had even w this great engine. I’m 60-130 7.3 with a passenger (prior to headers) and my 1/8 mile mph is almost 109 mph consistently . Most other near stock z06 on same day same track were mph around 104 in same conditions so it’s definitely faster than it came from the factory.

Bigger isn't always better. My fear is loosing the low and mid response. I wouldn't want to loose that on my c8 z06. When can we expect dyno results?
