I was a young kid during this era. This is when having a birthday party at McDonalds was every kids dream. A Happy Meal was a big deal. It was actually something to look forward to. I enjoy aspects of technology but I do miss how people interacted before the smart phone era. I got to experience childhood in the 80s and teens in the 90s. I miss those days.

Very true. My dad never let me eat fast food unless I was getting a shot at the doctors. After my appointment I would get some McDonald’s fries and I was happy with that. To have your birthday party there was a dream.

I kinda cried a bit watching this. In 1984 I was 14 and I used to work at McDonalds from 1983-1987. I actually really liked working there! I made my way into making $5.75 an hour (not bad back then!). I even remember the manager making a real good living too; I want to say about $45,000 a year. Back then that was a lot! I had to go to high school and the company respected when I could and couldn't work! Imagine that! This was my favorite high school job! Thank you Vampire Robot for putting this on YT!

      Hi Stephanie,
I was also thinking about how genuine people were in those days and I miss them. I’m in my mid 40s but I am old enough to remember those days and wish that we could see some of that same kind of human spirit these days. A lot of those young workers there are now at retirement age which is hard to imagine. Time is so precious and yet so fleeting makes you think about the bigger picture or at least it does for me!

they had more employees then to properly run the restaurant. Fewer menu items but better ingredients and quality. Blame "optimization" and cutting every corner to squeeze just a few more pennies of profit out in the short term, at the cost of long term service and quality. I quit eating at McDonalds when half of them installed touch screen order kiosks instead of having an actual cashier available.

That's because McDonald's wasn't all over the place like it's Today... Back in the 1970s the Ice Cream makers were always working because it was Real Ice Cream.... Than the 1980s was when McDonald's and Burger King went to War and the Vendors supplying these machines couldn't keep up.. at that time the average radius of a McDonald's was 30 miles... Grand population Radius.... Today the grand population Radius is 3.07 miles.... It was easier to get a Polish sausage in Chicago than a Big Mac in the 1970s. But the expanse of fast food was Soo great... That the Ice Cream makers today is more Artificial... Than Real Ice Cream. If you notice the majority of the employees are young.... The Manager was mostly the only one above 25 years.... Nowadays the Employees are Upto Elderly.... That's a result of sending jobs overseas to take advantage of the cheap Labor.... The American people are mostly Service Sector and the really good paying jobs disappeared overseas. Back then you could work 4 days and pay the Rent... Car... Food.. utilities... And go to the ballgame.... Today you work 48 hours and never get above water.... Lower wages and less benefits.
That's what happened in the last 40 years.... Corporations stripped themselves of the Highly Qualified and Skilled American worker.... To a Highly Qualified and Skilled foreign worker... With No Benefits.... No Union... No Environmental Regulations.... And very Cheap Labor Costs.... Cheap Wages.

The McDs near me was like that up to about 10-15 years ago. Now even at lunch time, there's one register in use occasionally taking orders. Most dine-in customers use the kiosks or the app. Very little interaction. For dine-in, they offer table service, which is nice and somewhat surprising. So they're aware the experience leaves something to be desired. Many McDs have downsized their dining areas significantly.

I was at a Micky Ds recently and it was pretty sad. Most people were ordering from the self help menus. They had tons of orders coming in from what must have been from their app and delivery services like Uber Eats. The one guy that was waiting at the register was ignored even though he said excuse me several times and eventually left. They could just not handle the amount of orders. They weren't even slacking off they were all working as fast as they could. Technology can be a blessing but it can also really take away from the human experience. Eventually they really will need robots to work at the fast pace that's being demanded from the workers. People don't want to experience anything anymore they just want convenience.
I really miss these days. I was a kid in the 80s/90s and I remember you'd wait at the register for them to go get your food. Things still hadn't gotten messed up yet. It really does suck that the newer generations really never got the chance to experience life offline. Everyday life was pretty great. We just didn't know it at the time.
