I find this more fascinating than modern Netflix shows and I don't know why
Because watching these are like entering into a time machine.
Absolutely!
@@trxshboat8825 totally agree
It's real. Plus, because of technology, it's a way of living that we can never return to.
Netflix productions come from twisted jxxxsh heads.
The service back then was definitely better but the customers also didn't act like entitled fools back then either.
I believe so
I live in a 98% white area, rural, and people still act that way now.
@@safffff1000times have changed people don't communicate anymore, divorces are high and so is the p a t h e t I c woke culture
You’re basing that off a 14 minute video lol
@@safffff1000no they don’t, everywhere you go people have there faces in their phones, there is no society like this anymore, not even in rural areas
If the manager is at ease and calm, the whole restaurant is calm...
I'm so thankful that there's a time traveler working for good instead of evil.
Notice how calm everyone is. Nobody's rushing to get food made and no customers are angry because of wait times.
Cause back then if you worked at a fast food place but were smart with your money, you could afford a home and live an average lifestyle.
This just wasnt filmed in a city. If it was a city, people would have been a lot less calm, even back then.
Up until early 2000s it was fast food because they'd have 10 of every burger sitting there pre cooked
Because they have a professional camera crew inside recording lol
I eat fast food all the time and I never see people in a rush or angry
A manager that actually jumps in, helps, and works alongside his crew. You never see that anymore. That Manager is a rare breed.
People actually could carry on conversations and they loved the service that they received. Managers actually cared. Managers dressed professional and wore ties. It would be nice to see a rebirth of America like this when I’m old. I’m 44.
i'm also 44. BK was my favorite place to go with my Sis and Mom after Church /Sunday School class every weekend. the one I went to was very much like the one in this video, also the patrons were nice, quiet and stayed out of your way. There was a level of respect regarding cleanliness too. More than today without question, i agree with you.
I still love the OG Chicken sandwich because of that location from the 1980s, it's basically the same sandwich which is great. Unfortunately they leveled it and a car dealership owns the lot now. Sort of a shame however there are 2 other BK's within 3 miles of there lol
I was born in 1997. Most of my generation and younger are far from respectful. I wish I lived during times like this. Burger King now is literally almost lowest of the low high school kids who could care less about customers or the cleanliness of the restaurant. Everything just seemed so much better in the world before my time and its sad.
I was a kid in the 80s, but old enough to know that managers and crew members took pride in their jobs. Yes, the pay was low ($5 or $6 an hour), but they cared.
Yeah, these youngsters today just don't give a damn. They don't great customers, they don't dress nice, and they are almost always on their cell phones. Back in the 80s and 90s, the mentality these workers had was much different.
Younger people these days have a much more nihilistic view on everything, and the older generations are quite literally breaking down. Hard to see the good in anything when you see everything you've ever known die or change for the worst. Neither of these things whole-sale are good for a working society, priorities askew and all. Shame to see it all go to shit from such a had been hard working and prosperous country.
Everything looks so clean and fresh. People working there are quite polite and chilled. So nice.
@@bathtownship you arr completely right! Seems like people had way more time and were more chilled
Yes, much more polite than today. Unfortunately, handling food with bare hands, no gloves
You’re delusional it depended on which fast food branch one went to some were not as clean . Also they don’t wear gloves how disgusting
@@mj61259 People were also a lot more clean than today. There was no need for signs to remind you to wash you hands and overall be a decent person. It was common practice.
@mj61259 Yeah didn't understand that part
Funny how the workers don’t wear any gloves like they do today, but I never got sick eating BK like I do nowadays.
🤣🤣🤣
So true! 😂
I worked at McDonald’s circa 98. I remember we were not required to wear gloves til around 99. People think it’s disgusting now but that’s just the way it was then. People never got sick it seems. I guess times just change.

I'm sure these employees moved on to better jobs. Very few people work fastfood jobs for a long period of time. That is a waste of life.
Just the fact that the employees speak in complete sentences instead of grunts and groans or waiting for you to initiate every request.
I grew up in the 80s and 1988 was one of my favorite years ever, so this is a treat to watch. I'm not going to be one of those people who act like things were perfect back then and everything sucks now, it had good and bad just like all eras do, but I do enjoy revisiting a time when I was a kid when I didn't concern myself with adult things. Thanks for the upload.
How was your era? I do feel like people of past decades exaggerate things but the after generations do seem to get worst I noticed

I love how calm and polite people are. Also the decor and style is so much more pleasing.
No one being creepy or stupid. It's like looking into the future.
Yes, not on their cell phones arguing with strangers on the internet about nothing.
it was rare that anyone filmed back then. So you are not gonna see anything bad. But there were plenty of rude people and fights in Fast Food restaurants back then. The fact that 100% of people now have a camera in their back pocket has changed things and EVERYTHING can be recorded on a whim now ...
@@Anth230 you have some good points...But, the vast majority of the time you got good service and polite back then at fast food places...now, it sucks 9 ourtof 10 times.
@@petewilcox3354 I don't eat fast food very often nowadays. I do go to Tim Hortons for coffee and the occasional chicken wrap and then Taco Bell for the occasional Veggie Burrito. I do this especially with music. I associate music with times in my life. Even if the song is old, the first time I heard it counts towards a particular era in my life. I remember I heard a song from 1978 for the first time in 2013, and now 10 years later I associate that '70s song with the summer of 2013 when I was traveling and first heard that tune. Takes me right back to that time in my life.

It sounds like you didn't live through the '80s. Civility was considered to be declining greatly in that decade. Movie theaters had to start running announcements telling people you were not supposed to talk during the movie, a fact in previous decades people had instinctively understood. I remember back then my uncle used to work for Burger King. A rowdy customer started assaulting him. He defended himself and used force to get the man to leave the store. The manager shook his hand and thanked him.
Today if a customer assaults you behind the counter, you are supposed to take the beating with a smile. You then apologize to the assailant on the way out as you are being fired.

Going to a fast food place was an experience when I was young. No incessant beeping and panicked and overwhelmed employees doing 2 jobs at once. Then they slap the burger together and throw it at you. Fast food corporations need to restore this culture of taking their time to do things right. Faster is not always better.
I agree...but I have to admit I was there last night and my small order took 20 or so minutes. I would have used the drive thru...but pretty sure I would have gotten stuck because of the snow. Although that wouldn't have made a difference time wise. But yes...faster is not better.

You're seeing what you want to see in this, which is your right. But there is very little different in the way people working fast food restaurants behave compared to today. The green foliage was so fascinating back in the 80’s. It was everywhere in every business imaginable.
now everything is stale, plain, boring and ugly.
Look at all the people paying with cash! I LOVE these videos! Thanks for sharing.
This is the year I was born...I like everything about the 80s...the movies and the music but to live it would've been awesome
You ever notice how BK, MCD’s or otherwise never have the live plants in them anymore? I know part of it was probably to help filter the air because ppl used to smoke inside but, it would be so nice if they still did that.
I miss that, too. Made it feel more inviting.
Nobody would keep them watered, then you'd have a bunch of stores with dead plants inside.
The plants would not filter anything worth mentioning. Customers walking in and out had a zillion times more impact on improving air quality than a dozen small plants could ever hope to achieve. Regardless, my joint would have plants all over. In Flint, MI, there was a place called Country Kettle that had a large fountain in the lobby entrance with lots of plants. I loved it and the fresh smell of volatile organic compounds it provided. I get the same satisfaction from the fresh produce isle at supermarkets, especially when the misters are active. A cut fresh flowers walk in refrigeration unit practically gives me an erection from the pleasant smell.
The good ol days.
I love the cleanliness of the restaurant! They really took pride in their service.
no gloves tho
@@chuckchuck4016 exactly what the fuck i was thinking touching people food with your bare hands. This country already don’t like our kind
So we gon ignore the handling of the food barehanded
They are being recorded you know?
Bruh he went right from putting frozen raw patties on the grill to grabbing the buns
Burger King was my 1st job ever in the 2000’s. This video really unlocked some memories! I used to be so proud to be on “The Whopper board”. My bff would work on the Specialties (fries, nuggets, chicken sandwiches, etc). My other friend would work the grill. And my other friend would be on the Burger Board during the lunch rush! My manager would expedite the food to drive thru and the front counter. I loved that job as a kid!!!
Great comment 👍
Me too! Worked “burger board” in 1989 this video definitely unlocked core memories for me! You remember the cookie spooner? Lol
Worked there during Dreamcast’s launch in Fall ‘99!
Now the employees don't even make eye contact with you.
Who would want to thats when customers snag you
Damn! What was the health department's standards for handling food back then?
Normal world brother, normal world.

Does anyone else remember the original “BK Big Fish” sandwich? Not the paltry little ones they currently sell. This one was introduced in the early 90’s (1993ish) as a replacement for the “Whaler”. It was literally the biggest fish sandwich I’ve seen in chain restaurants and tasted fantastic! My friends and I would walk the 10 minute trek to BK as teens to get a Big Fish at least twice a week. I always wondered why they switched to the current “Big Fish” which pales in comparison both size and taste-wise.
If the register was that big, imagine the size of the camera that is filming this.
😆😆😆
You put it on your shoulder and the viewfinder is on your right eye and it would take a full size VHS tape.
Oh those cameras back then were bulky. You needed a strong shoulder to carry those things around.
Some of us don't have to imagine. We were there.
4.63 for two combos that's 2.31 a piece
Wow. A REAL functioning Burger King where you can actually get food!!!!! Man I miss those days. In our part of the country, burger kings close at random, run out of food, close their drive thrus at random, and they have credit card machines that go down all the time. I miss the 80s
Moral of the story, eat healthier food.
Staffing issues. People do not want to work fast food anymore. Mostly robots should be putting out this garbage fraken "food"
@@Alex-rl4uy word. Can make such better stuff at home
Agreed. The haters may not have had the experience of eating at fast food joints in the 80s (or 70s.) What’s being served up today is NOT the same product as back then. Not that is was ever particularly healthy, but the quality was excellent.
These days it takes a lot of alcohol to pretend it tastes good.
The days of no gloves....
I miss those times. I could live in the 80s and 90s forever
Me, too.
Me three ❤
Everyone is just so nice and without worry. Also, do you think that when this person recorded this simple footage, they thought that almost a half a million people would watch it and comment under it with great conversation?

I'm glad I'm not the only one who enjoys these vintage videos of all locations at a Burger King in the late 80's, that's just incredible
Notice how they don’t just literally throw everything together. Wish they still had that standard in fast food.
Did you see the burger part? Dude is building them like it's the high school snack bar.
Nothing to do with the fact they were being filmed, or the fact it was a quiet time in the restaurant of course…
So nostalgic...most of these people in the video never knew what the internet was, since back then it was so limited. Before smartphones, youtube, social media, and no one using credit cards to pay. It's really fun watching these videos from 30-40 years ago!
Internet didn't exist at all in the consumer space. The world wide web came first online in 1993.

Love these videos! I worked at McDonald’s circa 98. I remember we were not required to wear gloves til around 99. People think it’s disgusting now but that’s just the way it was then. People never got sick it seems. I guess times just change.
I was around 5-6 years old back in 88’ and I can tell you right now. Fast food was just on another level back then. McyDs, BK, Wendy’s even Tacobell
Yes I'm the same ages you and back then it was so awesome it really was a treat
Hi fellow 83 babies, are we scared of 40? I am.
I will say that my local Taco Bells still care about quality and service just like back in the day. I don't eat much fast food but if I do, that's why it's always at Taco Bell.
Is it me or Wendy's burgers have become smaller ? They're almost $3 where I live too.
@@tias.6675 , Oh yeah, I noticed that a year ago. The JBC is a joke.
Amazing video! Love the aesthetic and the sound of the radio while they were preparing food. I remember when the packaging looked like this, with the red-orange and yellow stripe. That chicken sandwich is still my favourite to this day.
Mine too. Back then it was cut in half, today it’s not.
Back when fast food was about being affordable and offering good service.
Not anymore
those of you talking trash about the dude not wearing gloves----chances are EVERY restaurant you have eaten at over the past year has prepared your food with someone not wearing gloves, so you can step off your hygiene high horse now!
@under the bunk, I totally agree with you, and here's something for everyone to think about...gloves can become contaminated just like bare hands can, so that's most likely why people still get food poisoning so often today.
I can't get over the amount of pride taken in their work, compared to today
They're being filmed by their boss, you mark. Of course they're gonna be on their A game.
Pride before the fall.
How can people have pride in their work when they're being overworked and underpaid?
Also, if you look long enough, there workers who give it their all. It all depends on management!!! My local BK always had exceptional service and food quality for years. Good staff retention, too.
It's amazing what earning a living wage does for a persons work ethic and attitude huh?
@@Faithlove-dk6vf I repeatedly got burgers from McDs and BKs in the 80s with no burger in it. Just a bun WITH condiments, so someone had to have looked at it, put it together and sent it knowing it was just a hot mess. Time makes old people delusional when they don't keep their minds active.
My first job back in 88' was working at a Burger King, and I swear I wanted to strangle the marketing director that came up with the damn $.99 whoppers.
On the weekends I would average making a thousand of those bloody burgers a day, no exaggeration.
Each one being a special order, and to this day I still have nightmares.😵💫😵💫😵💫
Come on. You were having the time of your life
I hope you’re not from Chicago so I don’t have to apologize. Lol we didn’t have much money so on Saturday night fast food night, those $99 cent whoppers were our favorite! Mom would spend max $2 per kid 😂
We were at a shore town at that time. Literally lines out the door all day every day in summer. Whopper Board was my normal thing for a while. I remember the 99cent Whoppers. I could make them like lightning!
>worked for BK 1986-88. We had a 69 cent Whopper day for our franchisee's anniversary (opened in1969)- limit 6 per order. That was a fun shift!

Even him touching everything with no gloves. No one sick. Everyone is calm. No one rushing. Just a great time.

Wow! I just had to comment! Look how clean everything is? Look how nice they made and wrapped the food? The manager even looked like a real manager lol. Man I miss those days!😞 I wish I could go back in a time machine.
Yeah and nobody wore gloves while touching all the food.
@@johngillard3 which is better than dirty gloves all day that don't get changed
Stop glorifying it because it's vintage footage. You seem ready to worship and defend burger king and the "good ol days" whether they use poop hands to prepare your food or not. Hands that were used to itch an ass are worse than gloves that were used to prepare a few meals.
My ghetto town has two burger kings. One is abandoned and derelict. The other might have at any given time a "manager" with meth mouth and piercings and one guy in the back making the food. And one of the entrances is boarded up with plywood as if they're expecting a hurricane and they spray painted "We're open" on the plywood.
One time at burger king my extra long chicken sandwich had a bite taken out of it when I got it. Must of been a monkey.
Im glad people took the time and thought to film simple moments like this - this makes me wanna cry.
Wow! No gloves. 😮 i guess they were ‘clean’ in those days. Lol. Miss the 80’s. Loved being a kid in those days. 😊
Ah there’s something oddly soothing about watching this… the ambience… the nostalgia… I love the 80s.
The chicken sandwich was my favorite, I hate that they stoped slicing it in half. Thanks for posting this video!
You're welcome 😄
I feel like any thing filmed before 2005 (pre UA-cam, Social media, etc ) is content and is a time warp to the past.
Burger King whoppers were great in the 70s. And McDonald's fries were fried in beef tallow and were incredible. People were so much nicer in the 70s and 80s.
“May I take your order?!” Wow. Ancient times. I forgot how civilized employees and customers were back in those days. And what an efficient operation.
These pleasant times are long, long gone. Seems odd not seeing an employee or customer being verbally abused or assaulted.
Do behave. People were rude back in the 80s, regardless of whether this video shows it or not.
@@andyc6542 As one who worked at Burger King in the 80s, I can testify that this was how an employee working the counter spoke to customers placing an order. We were young people whose parents were born in the 30s and 40s and raised us properly. Proper manners were commonplace in society no matter what one’s social standing was. Being rude in public was an exception, not ubiquitous like today.
It’s fallacy to project today’s social norms on past societies.
You can tell that big guy does a disproportionate amount of the work.
(BTW: Thanks for the shout out Robot!)
He did all the work, but he also bedded every chick who worked there. You have to take the bad with the good.
They paid with actual money back then. I remember those days. Nowadays it's paid mostly with debit cards.
I haven't had cash in my wallet in like 15 years. My daughter needed $10 cash for a band t-shirt and I had to raid the birthday money in her piggy bank to get it.

Apparently gloves were optional in 1988… 🤮
Took me back especially with that SLICE soda! Minimum wage back then was $3.35 an hour back then but it was enough to get by. Nobody is looking stressed out or anything
