Rejecting a professional coaching job isn't always a bad thing, especially in Hurley's case. At UConn, he's developed an old school system of coaching (learned from his father, legendary high school coach at St Anthony's in NJ) that's proven to win championships AND players buy into it. He has the trust of the AD and the administration. It's his show.
At the Lakers he'd be dealing with diva players, playing the way they want to play, a front office that has been a proven dysfunctional mess since Jerry Buss died and a LeBron calling some of the shots behind the scenes like put my Div 3 son on the team.

If the lakers wanted a six-year contract and wanted to secure Dan, the Lakers should have offered $80 million which would bring his annual salary to a little over $13 million. If I was the GM and knowing he's never coached in the NBA I would have offered him a four-year deal $50 million which would give Dan an annual salary of $12.5 million that way if it works out, they can give him a long-term extension with better pay and if it doesn't work it's out it's only four years.

By the Lakers, if they were REALLY SERIOUS, should have offered $100 million. They didn't and Hurley makes additional $20 million. And the Lakers look stupid.

It was for leverage. Notice he doesn't look into the camera when he says potential 3 peat. Liars have trouble looking you in the eye or lens. I want someone that's a winner like Jim Harbaugh! He lacks confidence. If he had what it would take he'd take the job and win. Jim Harbaugh knows he's going to win, this average "guy" ain't the dude. Jay wright is who the Lakers need. Very few great coaches left.
